Antisemitism Follows Resurgence of UK's Hard Left - Charles Gardner ISRAEL TODAY

Antisemitism Follows Resurgence of UK's Hard Left

Tuesday, July 18, 2017 |  Charles Gardner  ISRAEL TODAY
The re-emergence of the British Labour Party as a serious contender for power – following a period when they seemed unelectable under a new leader from the hard Left – is extremely worrying.
Although I recognise a clear resurrection of Marxism here, it is also worryingly comparable to the nightmare scenario of the rise of Nazism in the early 1930s when Hitler was swept to power by an electorate desperate for a restoration of pride and plenty. With the rise of socialist agendas in Britain and in other countries, the subtle agenda of anti-Semitism is once more being carried along by an increasingly angry undercurrent for change.
I am not suggesting Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is a new Hitler, but it is difficult not to be reminded of the Nazi era. After all, swathes of young people came out in support of Corbyn – the no-hoper turned celebrity almost overnight – in spite of much negative press coverage, including his evident anti-Semitic sympathies. But as someone has said, “the lesson we learn from history is that we never learn the lesson from history!”
The latest victim of the menacing – some would say thuggish – behaviour of those surrounding Mr Corbyn is one of his own MPs, Luciana Berger, a 36-year-old Jewish mum representing a Liverpool constituency.
According to the Daily Mail, she faces the threat of de-selection from party activists unless she apologises for previously criticising her leader. A former member of the Shadow Cabinet who quit her post in protest at Mr Corbyn’s stance, Miss Berger has received vile anti-Semitic abuse including 2,500 hate-filled messages in just three days from internet trolls. These included threats to rape or kill her, while some featured the yellow star used by the Nazis to identify Jews.
Mr Corbyn has faced repeated criticism that he has failed to tackle anti-Semitism in his party. He has personally referred to terror groups Hamas and Hezbollah as ‘friends’ and, in October 2014, travelled to Tunisia to visit the grave of a PLO terrorist linked with the massacre of Jewish athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
But none of this seems to move the rising mass of ‘Corbynistas’, who instead turn out to cheer their man as if he were some kind of pop star. Meanwhile, Labour takes an eight-point lead over the Conservatives – 46 per cent to 38 – according to a YouGov poll for The Times.
Grassroots group Momentum, evidently responsible for Mr Corbyn’s meteoric rise to prominence, has clearly recruited a sea of red political soldiers waving flags of intolerance at anyone daring to oppose their ideologies.
Isi Leibler, a highly respected Jewish leader and commentator, advises Britain’s Jews to cross this ‘Red Sea’ by packing their bags for Israel. The threat to their well-being and safety may be worse than at any time since 1656, when Jews were invited back to Britain under Cromwell following their expulsion in 1290.
“It is a horrifying prospect that a man who publicly praises Hamas and Hezbollah as his ‘friends’, who attended a ceremony in Tunis commemorating the murderer of Israeli Olympic athletes, was employed by the state-controlled Iranian TV to present programs, and tolerated the proliferation of overt anti-Semitism in his party was so close to being elected Prime Minister,” he wrote.
Such huge support “for a primitive Trotskyite whose friends include terrorists…is simply mind-boggling”.
The ‘red line’ has now been crossed for British Jews who are considered pariahs by a substantial proportion of the nation, he added. Anti-Israel rhetoric has reached unprecedented levels both in street demonstrations and at universities, while armed guards are now required at schools, synagogues and other Jewish centres.
By contrast to the 1930s, he said, today’s Jews have a state willing to embrace them where they can enjoy the fruits of the Jewish national renaissance and leave behind the humiliation of anti-Semitism.
Germany in the 1930s might seem a world away from 21
st century Britain, but what makes us think we are insured against totalitarianism, dictatorship, chaos and confusion, riots in the streets and even civil war?
We can insure our houses against a variety of risks, but there is no such insurance policy for our nation at this time. We have turned our backs on the Lord of glory – and he has left us to our own devices and dilemmas. We are now paying heavily for not taking out (everlasting) life insurance as we reap the consequences of worshipping the hedonistic idols of atheism, with society breaking down, terror stalking our streets and what we used to regard as ‘sin’ being celebrated and promoted.
In 1930s Germany, few dreamed that this apparently charismatic figure who talked of restoring German pride and was gaining in popularity by the day would, within a dozen years, have sent 50 million people to their deaths in a war that would see the destruction of the nation’s economy along with many of its great cities, and the most appalling crime in history – the murder of six million Jews.
Many believe the Holocaust could never happen again – and some actually believe it never took place at all – because it was wicked beyond belief. But in Britain’s brave new world where anything goes, a party whose leader has obvious anti-Semitic sympathies is now more popular than the newly re-elected Conservative Government of Theresa May, which has had to agree to work with Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party to carry out legislation.
It’s worth recalling that homosexuals were also sent to Nazi death camps. But now, perversely, their lifestyle is held up as something for which we must all be proud – and those who disagree are, like the Jews, also pariahs. Of course both these scenarios are horribly wrong. God loves gay people as much as any of us, but not their lifestyle.
An estimated one million people joined the ‘Gay Pride’ march through London, seen by the BBC as something to lift our spirits in these difficult times blighted by terror and confusion. But the ‘happy’ scene is in fact a tragedy, underscored for me as I watched the TV cameras pan across the parade down Regent Street with the distinctive features of All Souls, Langham Place, in the background.
For many across the world, this church is seen as the very heart and soul of Christian evangelicalism – representing those who believe the Bible is the unchanging word of God for all time; and that it means what it says, and says what it means. But the contrast picked up by the cameras also reminds us that the current state of the union is only temporary, whereas our God is eternal. Comparing people to grass, the prophet Isaiah wrote: “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever” (Isa 40:8).
And remember: “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Heb 4:13).

Netanyahu Said What About Muslims and the Holocaust?

Netanyahu Said What About Muslims and the Holocaust?

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu provoked controversy on Wednesday, hours before a visit to Germany, by saying the former Muslim elder in Jerusalem convinced Adolf Hitler to exterminate the Jews.
In a speech to the Zionist Congress late on Tuesday, Netanyahu referred to a series of attacks by Muslims against Jews in Palestine during the 1920s that he said were instigated by the then Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini.
Husseini famously flew to visit Hitler in Berlin in 1941, and Netanyahu said that meeting was instrumental in the Nazi leader's decision to launch a campaign to annihilate the Jews.
"Hitler didn't want to exterminate the Jews at the time, he wanted to expel the Jews," Netanyahu said in the speech. "And Haj Amin al-Husseini went to Hitler and said, 'If you expel them, they'll all come here.'
"'So what should I do with them?'" Netanyahu said Hitler asked the mufti, who responded: "Burn them."
Netanyahu, whose father was an eminent historian, was quickly harangued by opposition politicians and experts on the Holocaust who said he was distorting the historical record.
Palestinian officials said Netanyahu appeared to be absolving Hitler of the murder of six million Jews in order to lay the blame on Muslims. Twitter was awash with criticism.
"It is a sad day in history when the leader of the Israeli government hates his neighbor so much that he is willing to absolve the most notorious war criminal in history, Adolf Hitler, of the murder of six million Jews," Saeb Erekat, the Palestine Liberation Organisation's secretary general, said.
"Mr Netanyahu should stop using this human tragedy to score points for his political end," said Erekat, the chief Palestinian negotiator with the Israelis.
Even Netanyahu's defense minister, close ally Moshe Yaalon, said the prime minister had got it wrong.
"It certainly wasn't (Husseini) who invented the Final Solution," Yaalon told Israel's Army Radio. "That was the evil brainchild of Hitler himself."
It is not clear what sources Netanyahu was relying on for his comments. A 1947 book "The Mufti of Jerusalem" and a newspaper report at the time said a former Hitler deputy had testified at the Nuremberg war crimes trials that Husseini had plotted with the Nazi leader to rid Europe of its Jews.
Husseini was sought for war crimes but never appeared at the Nuremberg proceedings and later died in Cairo.
Historical Record
But the point several historians made was that Netanyahu was distorting timelines and drawing false conclusions.
The meeting between Husseini and Hitler in Berlin took place on November 28, 1941. More than two years earlier, in January 1939, Hitler had addressed the Reichstag and talked clearly about his determination to exterminate the Jewish race.
"To say that the mufti was the first to mention to Hitler the idea to kill or burn the Jews is not correct," Dina Porat, a professor at Tel Aviv University and the chief historian of Yad Vashem, Israel's Holocaust museum, told Israel Radio.
"The idea to rid the world of the Jews was a central theme in Hitler's ideology a long, long time before he met the mufti."
Porat and others pointed out that the murder of the Jews began in June 1941. Even if the mufti wanted the Final Solution to be expanded, he wasn't the one who came up with the idea.
"For somebody who knows something about history and grew up in the house of historian Professor Benzion Netanyahu, he should know well," Porat said of the prime minister. "But in my humble opinion, to say that the mufti gave Hitler the idea is wrong."

Holocaust Survivor Saved by Christians Returns the Favor

Holocaust Survivor Saved by Christians Returns the Favor

Thursday, July 16, 2015 |  Israel Today Staff
At the age of 19, Arthur George Weidenfeld was among the many Jews whom British Christians successfully rescued from Nazi-controlled Austria just as Adolf Hitler and his cohorts were putting the “Final Solution” into action.
Seventy-seven years later, now a British lord, Weidenfeld is looking to return the favor by rescuing Syrian and Iraqi Christians under mortal threat from the advancing Islamist horde known as ISIS.
Weidenfeld was brought to England in 1938 by the Quakers and the Plymouth Brethren. Not long after, he started the publishing business of Weidenfeld and Nicolson. In 1976, his overwhelming success and unrestrained philanthropy landed Weidenfeld the title of Lord, Baron Weidenfeld, to be exact.
This week, Weidenfeld told London’s The Times that he “has a debt to repay,” and has established the Weidenfeld Safe Havens Fund to transport and financially support Middle East Christians facing forced conversion and death.
According to reports, the Fund has already flown 150 Syrian Christians to Poland, where it will support them financially for the next 12–18 months while they get on their feet and integrate with their new country.
The initial goal is to get as many as 2,000 Christians out of Syria in the coming months.
Much like with the Nazi Holocaust, the nations of the world are doing very little to assist and save the beleaguered Christians of the Middle East, leaving individuals and smaller organizations to tackle this impossible task.
Weidenfeld acknowledged that he can’t save everyone, but feels there is significance in a Jewish Holocaust survivor reaching out a helping hand to Christians in the greatest of need.

'Catch the Jew' Reveals Surprising 'Tribe' Fueling Hate

'Catch the Jew' Reveals Surprising 'Tribe' Fueling Hate

JERUSALEM, Israel -- When it comes to Middle East peace, the world often asks what prevents Israelis and Palestinians from making it work. A new book blames a hidden party for fueling the hate between the two.

CBN News took a closer look at the frightening influence of some European, and even American, groups.

Anti-Semitism is alive and well in Europe, with attacks in France and Austria doubling since 2013. Already this year there were deadly attacks at a kosher supermarket in Paris and terror shootings of Jews in Copenhagen.

A new book, called Catch the Jew, claims Europeans are fanning the flames of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by exporting anti-Semitism to the Middle East.

The book is full of humor, and Tenenbom uses salty and sometimes crude language in his accounts.

"There's not only Jews and Arabs here, the way I thought, fighting it out, there is another tribe here and the tribe is called Europeans, some Americans, but mostly Europeans," author Tuvia Tenenbom told CBN News.

Tenenbom says European governments are funding organizations that say they help Palestinians, but in fact are so anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic, they create friction and even fabricate things against Israel.

"In reality, they have come to this land to implant and instill hatred in the heart of every Muslim against the Jews, and [they] also sponsor self-hating Jews," Tenenbom said.

Their purpose is "to catch the Jew doing something wrong, to declare the Jew evil, and to end the story of the Jews being here [in Israel]," he said.

For six months, Tenenbom and his wife, Miriam, interviewed hundreds of Israeli Jews and Arabs, Palestinians, and foreign aid workers, asking about their jobs and beliefs.

Paid by a German newspaper, Tenenbom hid his Jewish identity and posed as a German named "Tobi." In the eyes of Palestinians and internationals alike, his interviewees thought being German made him a kindred spirit in hatred of the Jews.

At the Checkpoints

Europeans send monitors to checkpoints, crossings between Israeli and Palestinian areas manned by Israeli soldiers, hoping to catch soldiers doing something the Europeans don't like.

Tenenbom captured much of the material for the book on video, like the conversation with Atef, a Palestinian serving as a top researcher for the pro-Palestinian Israeli human rights group, B'Tselem.

The group documents alleged Israeli brutality against Palestinians. Atef told "Tobi" the Holocaust never happened.

"Ah, because we're Germans we support the Jews, but ask him if he remembers that we also killed them," Tobi says to Atef.

"Ah, it's a lie. I don't believe [it]," Atef answers.

"You don't believe it?" Tobi asks, to clarify the response.

When Tenenbom challenged B'Tselem, the group said they'd fire Atef. But Tenenbom objected.

"I said, wait a second, I have nothing personal against Atef. I want you to retract the reports that he's signed on. How can you believe a guy, how can you trust a guy whose research has found that there was no Holocaust?" he asked.

'House of Peace'

Another example involved Casa Per La Pace Milano (House of Peace), a group funded by the European Commission. It brings young Italians to Israel for "peace education," to see the situation in Israel and Palestinian areas firsthand.

Their Israeli tour guide, Itamar Shapira, describes himself as an "ex-Jew" and speaks against Israel.

For example, during a tour of Jerusalem's Yad VaShem Holocaust Memorial, Shapira compared Israelis with Nazis.

"This one is a very known massacre. It happened here in [the] '48 war. [It's] called Deir Yassin," Shapira told the group.

"It used to be a Palestinian village -- below these houses and trees -- a Palestinian village of a few thousand people and about 170, 120, 400 -- again a fight of the numbers -- of Palestinians were killed over there," he said.

The museum fired Shapira, but he continues to conduct private tours there.

Palestinian Leaders

Tenenbom's German connection also gave him access to Palestinian leaders like former security chief Jibril Rajoub, considered a Palestinian moderate. Rajoub, who is the Palestinian Minister of Sport, is currently in the news for trying to get FIFA -- Federation of International Football Association -- to kick out Israel's soccer team as a way of boycotting Israel, an attempt that failed.

He told Tenenbom even Adolf Hitler didn't know how bad the Jews are.

"My question to you was do you think the Israelis have changed?" Tenenbom (Tobi) asked Rajoub, who was sitting in his office with a giant picture of former PLO chairman Yasser Arafat behind him.

"Excuse me. Let them not to change. Let them not to change. Israel will be isolated. Israel will be more [isolated] than South Africa," an agitated Rajoub answered.

In another clip, Hanan Ashrawi, a Palestinian Christian, wouldn't talk about the existence of a Jewish temple in Jerusalem. Her former boss, Arafat, said Jews never lived here.

"Of course the Jewish tribes were here, but they weren't, you know, a state the way they claim to be," Ashrawi said.

"Was there a temple?" Tobi asked.

"I have no idea. I'm not an archaeologist," she answered.

Tenenbom, whose grandfather was murdered by the Nazis, said he doesn't blame the Arabs. He lays the guilt squarely on the Europeans who pay them.

He had this message for Israelis at a lecture in Jerusalem.

"I don't want you to die. I don't want you to disappear," he said. "Fight back and be brave about it."

Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog - Israeli Strike on Iran in 2014?

Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog - Israeli Strike on Iran in 2014?

With rumors of Israeli strike on Iran in 2014 rising, Santorum & Rosenberg write oped for CNN: Could there be a “Second Holocaust”? Lessons from Nazi Germany & modern Iran.

by joelcrosenberg
CNN-logo(Netanya, Israel) -- Greetings from Israel. I'm here doing media interviews for The Auschwitz Escape, having various meetings, and trying to get a better sense of how Israeli citizens and leaders are viewing the crisis in Ukraine and the rising Iranian nuclear threat.
Rumors are swirling in the media here about a possible Israeli preemptive strike on Iran this year. Israeli officials at the highest level -- including the Defense Minister -- are reportedly coming to the reluctant belief that they cannot count on President Obama to take decisive action to neutralize the Iranian threat before it is too late.
Here are several recent headlines worth noting:
In this context, CNN.com has just published an op-ed that former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum and I have written. It examines parallels he and I find sobering between the history of Adolf Hitler and the current regime in Tehran. In the column, we also cite the exclusive new poll showing 80% of Americans fear a "Second Holocaust" if Iran is allowed to build nuclear warheads.
I hope you'll take a moment to read the full column. Then please post your comments on the "Epicenter Team" page on Facebook, and share this column with friends and get their reaction, as well.

Lessons of history: Americans fear 'second Holocaust' if Iran gets the bomb
By Rick Santorum and Joel C. Rosenberg
(CNN) -- Hillary Clinton raised eyebrows this month when she compared Vladimir Putin's tactics in Ukraine to those of the Nazis.
She was right, but there is an even more ominous similarity between the actions of Iran and those of pre-war Germany.
On May 21, 1935, Adolf Hitler delivered his infamous "peace" speech. In his masterful history of Nazi Germany, "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich," William L. Shirer quotes the Fuhrer's remarks at length:
  • "Germany needs peace and desires peace."
  • "Germany has solemnly recognized and guaranteed France her frontiers."
  • "Germany has concluded a non-aggression pact with Poland."
Shirer, a CBS Radio correspondent, called the address "one of the cleverest and most misleading of his Reichstag orations this writer, who sat through most of them, ever heard him make." He observed the West seemed beguiled by the speech, noting the Times of London welcomed Hitler's words "with almost hysterical joy."
"The speech turns out to be reasonable, straightforward, and comprehensive," stated the Times editorial. "No one who reads it with an impartial mind can doubt that the points of policy laid down by Herr Hitler may fairly constitute the basis of a complete settlement with Germany."
Yet Hitler was lying to buy time. He would not bring peace, but a horrific war, annexing Austria, invading France and Poland, and ordering the extermination of six million Jews.
Indeed, Hitler's lies were apparent less than a year after the speech. On March 7, 1936, the Nazis marched into the Rhineland, the demilitarized zone between Germany and France, in violation of the Treaty of Versailles.
If the West had confronted Hitler then, it could have forced him out of the Rhineland with a limited application of military force.
Such history is worth noting in today's showdown with Iran. Many in the West seem beguiled by the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani. But are they....

Israel Today: Palestinian Leadership 'Enthusiastically' Supported Nazis

VIDEO: Palestinian Leadership 'Enthusiastically' Supported Nazis

Sunday, January 05, 2014 |  Israel Today Staff Jerusalem
A senior Palestinian official last month confirmed for Russian television that the Palestinian Arab leadership at the time of World War II “enthusiastically” supported Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime, especially its war against the hated “Zionists.”
During an interview with Russia Today TV, former PLO political bureau chief Farouk Kaddoumi was asked if the Palestinian leadership was “sympathetic with Nazi Germany in WWII?”
Without batting an eye, Kaddoumi answered: “I don’t think it would be wrong to say that we were enthusiastic supporters of Germany.”
Wanting to clarify this astonishingly candid response, the interviewer repeated: “You supported Hitler and his people?”
Kaddoumi’s reply was the same: “Germany, yes. This was common among the Palestinians, especially since our enemy was Zionism, and we saw that Zionism was hostile to Germany, and vice versa.”
While the blunt nature of Kaddoumi’s admission might seem unusual, the content of his remarks represent no great surprise for students of history.
At the height of World War II, Palestinian spiritual leader and Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseini (pictured) was an outspoken ally of the Nazis. Several photographs of Husseini meeting with Hitler exist, and the sheikh is known to have actively recruited Muslims in the Balkans and elsewhere to the Nazi cause.
It should also be noted that Kaddoumi’s comments cannot in this particular instance be brushed aside as “playing to the crowd” since the Russians were one of Hitler’s greatest foes and suffered greatly at the hands of the Nazi war machine.
Watch the interview below:
