Why Israel Has a 9/11 Memorial, and How They're Honoring the Victims
09-11-2017
CBN News Tzippe Barrow
JERUSALEM, Israel – Monday marks the 16th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks on Manhattan's World Trade Center.
On that infamous day, people across the globe watched in disbelief as two hijacked jet airliners crashed into the twin towers. A short time later, a third hit the Pentagon and a fourth airliner, headed to Capitol Hill or the White House, crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed and more than twice that many injured in the deadliest multi-pronged terror attack in American history.
Every year on the anniversary of 9/11, Israelis gather to honor the memories of those who perished at the hands of suicidal jihadists.
The annual event, sponsored by KKL/JNF (Keren Kayemet l'Yisrael/Jewish National Fund), JNF-USA and the Israeli Embassy, takes place at the 9/11 Living Memorial in the Arazim Valley in Jerusalem's Ramot neighborhood.
Speakers at this year's memorial included KKL-JNF CEO Amnon Ben-Ami, U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, Iowa Gov. Kimberly Reynolds, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, and Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan.
"It is so fitting that the State of Israel is the only foreign nation to erect a 9/11 memorial, which includes the name of every victim lost on that tragic day," Amb. Friedman told participants. "Israel and the United States forever will be joined in the battle against – and ultimately the defeat of – radical Islamic terrorism."
Ben-Ami said the monument illustrates the shared fate of the two allies standing together against "the face of radicalism."
"The strategic alliance between our two countries is founded on the same values that terrorism is out to destroy: progress, prosperity, morality and peace," he said.
Among the U.S. and Israeli delegations taking part in this year's ceremony were representatives of the Texas State Association of Firefighters and a delegation of Israeli firefighters, U.S. marines and law enforcement officers, Nefesh B'Nefesh, the Anti-Defamation LeagueYoung Judaea and students from the Alexander Muss High School.
This year, 52 U.S. police officers, who arrived in Israel as part of the Police Unity Tour, attended the memorial. Established in 1997, the Police Unity Tour honors law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
The Beit Shemesh Police Academy housed the delegation and helped coordinate counterterrorism training exercises during their stay.
The 9/11 Living Memorial is the largest memorial site commemorating the 9/11 terror victims outside of the United States. Created by Israeli artist Eliezer Weishoff and KKL-JNF landscape architect Yechiel Cohen, the 30-foot-high bronze sculpture features an American flag folded in the shape of a memorial flame and a metal shard from the ruins of the Twin Towers embedded in the base.

40 Something? - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

40 Something?

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“Now David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel. The period which he reigned over Israel was forty years; he reigned in Hebron seven years and in Jerusalem thirty-three years.” (1 Chronicles 29:26-27, NASU)

Have you ever wondered what 40 will get you? No, I am not thinking about what prison sentence comes with what crime. I think about all the times the Lord God of the Living Bible uses numbers to get across His point, or to bring about His purpose in a person, people group or nation.

When I use my PC Bible Study software to give me all the references to the number 40, it stops after just one Bible version. There are just too many to list them all! And that is just with the number 40!

Here are a few samples of the ones most known about, which are historical facts, not just figments of imaginations, or used just to give some idea of the length of time. No, they are real periods that occurred in history. And they meant something then and can serve as a measure of time for us today.

The following are all from the ERV version, which uses “40” instead of “forty”.

1.      Gen 7:11 “The rain fell on the earth for 40 days and 40 nights.”
2.      Gen 25:20 “When Isaac was 40 years old, he married Rebekah.”
3.      Ex 16:35-36 “The people ate the manna for 40 years, until they came to the land of rest, that is, until they came to the edge of the land of Canaan.”
4.      Ex 24:18 “Then Moses went higher up the mountain into the cloud. He was on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights.”
5.      Numbers 13:25-26 “The men (10 spies) explored that country for 40 days, and then they went back to the camp.”
6.      Joshua 14:7 “(Joshua speaking) Moses, the Lord's servant, sent me to look at the land where we were going. I was 40 years old at that time.”
7.       2 Sam 5:4-5 “David was 30 years old when he began to rule. He was king for 40 years. In Hebron he ruled over Judah for 7 years and 6 months, and in Jerusalem he ruled over all Israel and Judah for 33 years.”
8.      2 Chronicles 9:30 “Solomon ruled in Jerusalem over all Israel for 40 years.”
9.       Matt 4:2-3 “Jesus ate nothing for 40 days and nights. After this, he was very hungry.”
10.   Acts 13:21 “Saul was from the tribe of Benjamin. He was king for 40 years.”

As I meditate on these verses, and what transpired in each one, I see testing (40 days or 40 years) and rulership (40 years for these kings). For several there were 40 days or 40 years of testing, walking it out in faith (or until they were released from unbelief.) For others, it was 40 years of ruling as a king.

Maybe in your life, as in mine, you can see time periods of 40 days, or on a longer length, 40 years, as a time period in which the Lord was working something out, or putting something in - preparing you for the call He has on your life.

(Photo - Negev Judean desert, Israel. Steve Martin, 2017)

When I was 23, I never thought it would take 40 years to follow, in preparation for the final call on my life; when I would “retire” from one segment to begin what I consider will be the best and final one. I am “retiring” on October 31, 2017 from my accounting job that has consumed 55 hours per week of my time. When I turn 63 on November 23, 40 years will have gone by since that 23rd year, when I got married.

Celebrating our 40th anniversary of marriage on October 7, 2017, will be a major accomplishment for Laurie and I. Was it all a “time of testing” in order to build the foundational pad needed to launch from, out into the “promised land” (atmosphere)?  I think maybe so. Then the ruling will begin, as a king, for we have been prepared to take the Gospel even further into territories from our home base.

What has been your 40 days, or 40 years? I would bet (surely there is a verse for that!) that if you look hard enough backward in your natural and spiritual walk, you too will see what the Lord has done, where He has taken you, and who around you is now involved with the plans and purposes the Lord, God of Israel, has in store for you too.

I find it very interesting, and encouraging. I think you will too.

Shalom and ahava (peace and love in Hebrew).

Israel's History - a Picture a Day July 22: Anniversary of the Bombing of the British Military Intel HQ in the King David Hotel 70 Years Ago

Israel's History - a Picture a Day (Beta)

Posted: 24 Jul 2016
King David Hotel 1946
On July 22, 1946, the Irgun resistance organization blew up a section of the King David Hotel, killing 91 British, Arabs and Jews.  The Library of Congress - Matson collection includes several pictures of the bombing's aftermath.

Those photographs pretty much marked the end of the Matson Photo Service's  65 years in Jerusalem.  According to the Library, "In 1946, in the face of increasing violence in Palestine, the Matsons left Jerusalem for Southern California."

The attack still raises the question of the involvement of the Jewish underground in terrorism.

The following appeared in Myths and Facts, 1989, written by the publisher of Israel Daily Picture.

The King David Hotel was the site of the British military command and the British Criminal Investigation Division.  Two events led the Irgun commanders to choose the British military headquarters as a legitimate target. On June 29, 1946, British troops invaded the Jewish Agency in Jerusalem and confiscated large quantities of documents.  Simultaneously, over 2,500 Jewish leaders from all over Palestine were placed under arrest.  Not only were the documents of crucial importance to the Jewish liberation movement, but papers on Jewish agents in Arab countries were also confiscated, endangering vital intelligence activities.  The information was taken to the King David Hotel.

One week later, Palestinian Jewish anger against the British and their blockade of Palestine grew.  Word arrived of the massacre of 40 Jews in a pogrom in Poland; 40 Jews who might have been saved had the doors to Palestine been opened for the survivors of Hitler's concentration camps.

On July 22, the Irgun planted bombs in the basement of the hotel. Several calls were placed warning the British to evacuate. They refused.  For decades the British denied that they had been warned. In 1979, however a member of the British parliament introduced evidence that the Irgun had indeed issued the warning.  He offered the testimony of a British officer who heard other officers in the King David Hotel bar joking about a Zionist threat to the headquarters.  The officer who overheard the conversation immediately left the hotel and survived.

Birthing & Raising - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Birthing & Raising
- Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“Who do you think Paul is, anyway? Or Apollos, for that matter? Servants, both of us — servants who waited on you as you gradually learned to entrust your lives to our mutual Master. We each carried out our servant assignment. I planted the seed, Apollos watered the plants, but God made you grow.” 1 Cor. 3:5,6 THE MESSAGE

When we celebrated our 4th year ministry anniversary of Love For His People on April 10, 2014, I was asked the question, “Do people really know what you do? They know you love Israel and bless the Jews worldwide, but how will they know to support your efforts if they don’t realize what that is? Maybe if you supported an orphanage in a foreign country, or evangelized, that would help?”

Hmmm. I later gave it some further thought and prayer, asking the Lord how to best communicate the vision and purpose given to this work He has given us to do, and others who come along side. It is true that if people do not understand the mission of an organization, they won’t support it.

In giving more understanding as to how the Body of Christ operates, each of us has a purpose, a specific calling that we have been apprehended by Him to fulfill. If we each do our part, His Church, the Body of Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ) will function as we are meant to do.

As the Scripture written above says, some have been called and gifted to plant the seeds, while others will water the plants that have then sprouted up. Each is to accomplish the task they have been assigned, as all the time God is making His Body grow.

Do all evangelize, in order to bring others through the birth canal into the Kingdom? In a sense, yes, just by the fact that we who are saved have His Holy Spirit working in and through us - we may see a new birth as we lead others to Christ (Messiah). But as their main part, I think not.

Do all have the calling of teaching, once that new born has come forth and now needs daily care and instruction? Not necessarily so. Though indeed, some will have been placed in that position to carefully nurture and provide for the young ones, while others have been gifted to bring encouragement and training, using a different gift of the Holy Spirit that has been given to them.

Let me explain then what this ministry has been established to do.

As for the work of Love For His People, one of the main ministry’s objectives is to share the heart of the Lord God of Israel for His chosen people, the Jews, with others. With our leadership, and having others share in this purpose, we have been called to teach the Gentiles in the nations that the apple of His eye, the Jews, have been given the Promised Land, all of which surrounds Jerusalem and beyond. It is their rightful inheritance. We must stand with them as they come back to the Land, Israel.

Our purpose also includes giving people the opportunity to join alongside us in supporting these in the Land with humanitarian financial aid, as the time it takes for them to get established takes needed assistance.

In addition, with our social media postings, we regularly provide further understanding of the eternal truths written in the Scriptures (Old and New Testaments). Our firm stand on His Word gives resistance against those lies cast on the earth, while at the same time advancing His Kingdom’s realm in the nations with His truth.

Our annual trips to Israel, Ahava Adventures, gives opportunity for those who come along with us, whether they are from our generation of the 50+, or the generation of our kids, days to spend with friends in Israel. Relationships established through these times together will continue to grow in importance as we move forward.

Books written by myself further share the vision of Love For His People, while at the same time have given encouragement to the readers in their own faith walk. Sharing my Ahava Love Letters and Now Think On This messages have brought faith, hope and love to people in many countries.

We ask you to consider joining with us in this work, through your financial gifts. We also ask you to support our work through the purchase of my books, which also gives provision for this work to advance further.

Thank you for your consideration, as we together bless those who have given the nations so much - especially our Jewish born Savior Jesus Christ, and for the work they have done through the centuries recording His eternal written Word, the Bible, for us to know Him.

Please consider sending a contribution today.
