Muslims Mob Attacks Jewish Children on Temple Mount

Breaking News - 590x148

templemount jews
Several dozen hareidi Jews, including children, ascended the Temple Mount Wednesday. In the course of the tour of the Mount, Muslims began hurling objects at the hareidim, spat at them, hurled shoes and sticks and pulled the sidelocks of one of the children. The raging Muslim mob terrified some of the children, who began to panic. At one point one of the Jewish men seeks to reassure the frightened children. "Don't be afraid! Don't be afraid! This is our place!" he said, referring to the Mount, the holiest site in Judaism.

Three dead in Kansas Jewish center shootings

Breaking News - 590x148
kansas shooting
Three people were reported dead on Sunday in a possible anti-Semitic shooting attack at two buildings serving the Jewish community near Kansas City. A gunman opened fired in the parking lot of the Overland Park Jewish Community Center and the nearby Village Shalom retirement home, both in the Kansas City suburb.
"At around 1 p.m. today, Overland Park police received multiple calls regarding a shooting on the campus of the Jewish Community Center, 5801 W. 115th Street. Additional calls were received by police of another shooting at the Village Shalom Retirement Community, 5500 W. 123rd," according to the Overland Park Police Department. "Three victims are confirmed deceased. A person of interest has been taken into custody at this time," the police spokesman said.
CNN reported that the deceased included a teenager and an elderly woman. During the initial developing story, a spokeswoman for Overland Park Regional Medical Center said the hospital was treating a 14-year-old male who suffered a gunshot wound and who was in critical condition. The gunman fired toward a total of five people, three of whom were confirmed dead, authorities investigating the incident said at a press briefing.
Overland Park Police Chief John Douglass said it was too early to label the attacks as anything other than "vicious acts of violence." He stated that two males were killed outside the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas and one female at the nearby Shalom Village retirement home. He confirmed that police had a white male in his 70s in custody for questioning. He added that the man was unknown to police until today.
The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City said on Facebook that no shooting had occurred inside its campus, and it had released home all the participants of its programming. Overland Park, the second biggest city in Kansas, is a short drive away from the state’s main Jewish concentration in Kansas City.
According to Kansas's KSHB 41 Action News, police were holding one suspect in custody, who was reported as yelling "heil Hitler" as he was being detained. The entire JCC campus was locked down. One witness was quoted by KSHB 41 Action News as saying that a man, presumably the shooter, had aimed a gun at him before shooting the windows of his vehicle. US Federal Bureau of Investigation officials were helping local authorities investigate the two shootings, CNN cited FBI spokesman Joel Sealer as saying.
The JCC of Greater Kansas City announced that it would be closed on Monday. "We will post more information following a debriefing at the Overland Park Police Command Center and a 5:00 pm press conference, which will be carried live," the JCC said on Facebook. The Jerusalem Post was unable to reach the Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City for further comment.
The shooting comes only weeks after the Anti-Defamation League released a report describing an increase in physical assaults against Jews despite an overall 19 percent decrease of anti-Semitic incidents in the United States. In its Annual Audit of Anti-Semitic Incidents, the ADL reported that there 751 incidents in 41 states and Washington, DC — among the lowest number since 1979, when the ADL began collecting data. The number of incidents has been steadily declining for the past decade.

3,800-year-old biblical fortress discovered in City of David

Breaking News - 590x148
jerusalemdiscovery cityofdavid
After a 15-year-long excavation defined as one of the the most complex ever conducted in Israel, archaeologists have finished uncovering a massive Canaanite fortress dating back to the time of Kings David and Solomon. The 3,800-year-old "Spring Citadel" was excavated in the City of David National Park by dozens of researchers led by Professor Ronny Reich of the University of Haifa and Eli Shukrun of the Israel Antiquities Authority. "The Spring Citadel was built in order to save and protect the water of the city from enemies coming to conquer it, as well as to protect the people going down to the spring to get water and bring it back up to the city," said Director of Development in the City of David, Oriya Dasberg.
The citadel is believed to have protected the Gihon spring, described in the Book of Kings as the location of King Solomon's anointing. The Spring Citadel is the largest Canaanite fortress yet discovered in Israel, and is believed to be the largest known fortress pre-dating the reign of King Herod, according to the IAA. The fully-excavated site has re-opened to the public and will offer fuller access to visitors who wish to explore a piece of biblical history.

Click here to watch: Jerusalem Gets Hit By Worst Storm Ever

The Jerusalem Municipality said that the city was expected
Friday afternoon to be hit by a wave of stormy conditions
“three times worse” than what has been experienced so
far since late Thursday night. Beginning at approximately
16:00 pm local time, municipality officials told The Times
of Israel that it was urging all residents of the capital and
the surrounding areas to stay indoors as weather
conditions worsen.

“We are expecting a second storm triple the size of the
one we’ve seen now and possibly up to 20 inches of snow,”
said municipality spokesperson Brachie Sprung Friday at
1:30 p.m. “During the storm the highways will remain
closed and all public transportation services will
be suspended.”

The Israel Electric Corporation declared a nationwide
state of emergency Friday as tens of thousands of
homes in Jerusalem and the surrounding region
remained without power amid the severe winter
storm currently besieging the area.

The electric company said it was manning a situation
room to receive reports of outages and was calling
in emergency workers to help restore power to those
affected in certain parts of Jerusalem, Mevasseret Zion,
Har Adar, Abu Gosh and Tzur Hadassah where many
power lines were hit by fallen trees. “We did not
anticipate the storm to be on this scale,” Oren Helman
from the electric company told Channel 2 news.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat turned to IDF Chief of Staff
Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz and Jerusalem District police chief
Yossi Pariente for help in evacuating the motorists.
"We are currently using all means available to save the
people stuck in the storm. Only after the weather calms
will we be able to open all of the roadways in the city,"
Barkat said Fridaymorning, adding that the city was
facing "a battle against a rare storm, the likes of
which we have never seen."

Earlier Friday, Ben Gurion Airport closed briefly as
the unprecedented winter storm — bringing the
heaviest December snows on record to Jerusalem
— continued to batter the country for a third day.

Two incoming flights initially rerouted to Larnaca,
Greece were set to land in Tel Aviv. Police instructed
citizens Friday to stay indoors and avoid driving on
roads, citing life-threatening dangers. The main arteries
leading in to and out of Jerusalem, Highway 1 and
Road 443, were closed off after thousands of people
were left stranded overnight Thursday-Friday by the
heavy snowfall, leading the IDF, the police and volunteers
to launch rescue operations. Police said Friday
morning that a rescue operation on Road 443 was
completed, after rescuers evacuated some 600
travelers from that route.

Crews worked throughout the night and into the morning
to rescue travelers in cars and buses trapped on the
roads, at one point putting out a public call for help
from anybody with a 4X4 vehicle. Around 2,000
people were rescued from vehicles during the night,
according to Israel Radio, and hundreds were
evacuated to shelters set up at convention centers
in the city, including the International Convention Center,
or Binyanei Hauma. The Defense Ministry said it was
sending emergency generators and meals to those
currently at the centers.

On Thursday, the IDF’s elite 669 search and rescue
unit retrieved 10 trapped passengers from a
commercial vehicle that was swept away by flood
waters in Nahal Gerar, north of Beersheba.
The passengers, nine of whom were children, were
airlifted to Beersheba’s Soroka Medical Center
in fair condition.

Over 24 hours between Wednesday and Thursday
morning, some 103 millimeters (four inches) of rain
— the monthly average — fell in the capital and
35 mm (1.4 inches) in Tel Aviv. There were several
incidents of people caught in flash floods that
swept their cars away.

The stormy weather was expected to persist
into the weekend, with snow reaching elevated
areas as far south as the Negev Desert on Friday.
On Wednesday, high winds, torrential rain and
floods inflicted damage in many areas, with some
injuries caused by flying debris.

A remarkable archaeological find in the Judean lowlands
southwest of Jerusalem includes a six-millennia-old cultic
temple and a 10,000-year-old house. The ancient sites
were located in routine archaeological digs conducted
ahead of a planned expansion of Route 38, the main
access road to Beit Shemesh. The building is the oldest
ever found in the area, and constitutes remarkable
“evidence of man’s transition to permanent dwellings,”
researchers said. Labeling it “a fascinating glimpse into
thousands of years of human development,” the
Israel Antiquities Authority, together with the Netivei
Israel Company that is carrying out the highway
expansion, invited the public to visit the excavation
site in Eshtaol.
