The Biblical City of Efrat ✡ "And You, O Beit Lechem Of Efrat" - Israel365

And you, O Beit Lechem of Efrat, Least among the clans of Yehuda, From you one shall come forth To rule Yisrael for Me— One whose origin is from of old, From ancient times
Micah 5:1 (The Israel Bible™)

The Biblical City of Efrat

At the beginning of Micha 5, a young child appears who will lead the People of Israel to victory. He is born in  Beit Lechem of Efrat in Yehuda. In this verse,Efrat is either another name for Beit Lechem or refers to the larger district in which it is found.  The present day city of Efrat, pictured above, was established in 1983, adjacent to the Beit Lechem, and is home to over 8,000 residents. The young one is described as “Least among the clans of Yehuda,” but nevertheless, “he will deliver us from Assyria” (verse 5). Micha’s allusion to King David, the youngest of all his brothers who nevertheless brought salvation from Israel’s enemies, is unmistakable. Indeed, this young lad will be a descendant of King David, son of “Yishai of Beit Lechem” (I Samuel 16:1).

How Many Arab Land Claims Are Real? - Israel Today

How Many Arab Land Claims Are Real?

Monday, March 27, 2017 |  Israel Today Staff
A new housing project planned in the town of Efrat south of Jerusalem overcame the last major hurdle recently, when Arab claims to the land were exposed as false.
The claim made by an Arab resident of the nearby village of Al-Khader delayed construction of the housing project by more than a year, blocking all work on the neighborhood, which is planned to include 50 homes.
According to an Israel Radio report, a court proved that that the Arab claimant had no basis of ownership, and that the claim on the land was entirely false.
The project was organized by the future residents themselves, who commissioned a contractor to build the 50 homes. Members of the group had already invested vast amounts into the project and the year-long delay caused the prospective homeowners huge amounts of money.
After the status of the land selected for the project had been carefully checked, the group obtained building permits and work began preparing the plots for construction.
This is when a resident of Al-Khader registered a complaint with authorities claiming ownership of the land. But it turned out, the man’s only claim to the land was a small grove of trees he had planted on a plot he never owned.

Mayors of Efrat and Maale Adumim Invited to Trump’s Inauguration Ceremony

For the first time ever, a number of settlement leaders have been invited to a US presidential inauguration.

The heads of Moetzet Yesha – The Council of Judea and Samaria, received an invitation to President Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony in Washington D.C., according to a report in Makor Rishon. The invitation was passed on to them via the Chamber of Commerce of Orthodox Jews (US), who are connected to Trump’s special advisor Jason D. Greenblatt.
The settlement council will most likely be represented at the inauguration by Mayor of Efrat, Oded Revivi, who also heads the foreign desk for Moetzet Yesha, and Beni Kashriel, the Mayor of Maale Adumim.
In addition, several other people connected to Jewish life in Judea and Samaria have been invited, but according to the report, they prefer not to publicize their invitations.
This is the first time that settlement leaders have been invited to a presidential inauguration.
Yigal Dilmoni, spokesperson for Moetzet Yesha, praised the move, saying it “foretells the new spirit emanating from the US regarding the change in [Washington’s] attitude towards Israel, and in particular, [Jewish] settlement in Judea, Samaria and the Jordan Valley. This new spirit was also expressed by the recent visit of Governor Mike Huckabee last week to Maale Adumim, and we are preparing for it.”
PM Netanyahu won’t be attending the ceremony, and will instead be represented by Israel’s Ambassador to the US, Ron Dermer.

Israel Behind the Lens: Photographer Zev Rothkoff Presents His Israel in 2015 [PHOTOS]

“The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like young sheep.” (Psalms 114:4)
Israel Behind the Lens is a special series highlighting some of Israel’s top photographers. Below, photographer Zev Rothkoff shares his most memorable photos captured in Israel in 2015 and the stories behind them.
The city of Efrat in the Judean mountains gets snow a few times each year. This year we were fortunate enough to enjoy a beautiful snow combined with budding almond blossoms. On days such as these, it’s not uncommon for us to hike through the mountains, benefiting from the beautiful local and well-known scenery with a special icing.

The Golan Heights is blessed with rolling hills and lush plains. The Gilboane waterfall pictured here flows even in the dry summer. It makes for a great vacation to enjoy the refreshing water during the heat of the day. The rainbow you see is an added bonus, giving even more reason to never want to leave!

Pictured here is a recently excavated drainage tunnel from the Temple Mount area to David’s City. This tunnel was used during the destruction of the temple by Jews as an escape route to safety from the Romans.

This is the Southern portion of Western Wall. Visitors from all over the world come to this spot, which shows the original Herodian era pavement and the damage it endured when Roman soldiers threw down from the second Temple during their siege on the holy city of Jerusalem. This photo symbolizes to me a more serious view of the reality of Jerusalem as it paints the truth of the Jewish connection to the Temple Mount and the significance and deep feelings the Jews have towards it.

A lighter view of Jerusalem! Since 2009, the Old City of Jerusalem has participated in the Jerusalem Light Festival, an arts festival where the entire city is filled with artwork displayed on the Old City walls. The event takes place every summer. Pictured is Damascus Gate with a child’s artwork projected onto it.

Olive trees symbolize peace and victory. In Israel, we rely on the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to protect each and every Israeli citizen. This photo tells me that our hope of peace is possible but we have to trust in the capable hands of our IDF soldiers.

Zev Rothkoff was born in New York and came on aliya in 1973. An alumnus of Yeshivat Har-Etzion, Zev served in the army in an infantry unit, where he continued to serve for 20 years of reserve duty. After finishing yeshiva (religious studies), Zev studied dentistry in Tel-Aviv University, and focuses on implant dentistry in his office in Arnona, Jerusalem. As an amateur photographer Zev has had various exhibits in Gush Etzion and Jerusalem, and his photos have won contests. Among them was the Wikipedia heritage site competition in which Zev won first prize in 2012.  His main interests are sites, scenery, flora and fauna of Israel. Zev’s website includes a section of tiyulim (hikes) in Israel and almost every week a new series of photos are introduced.

Between Ancient Hebron and the Modern Capital ✡ "Arose Early in the Morning" - ISRAEL365

And Abraham arose early in the morning, and he saddled his donkey … and he arose and went to the place of which God had told him.

Jerusalem Inspiration

Today's verse describes how Abraham got up earlyוַיַּשְׁכֵּםva-yash-kaym, and from this one Hebrew word, we learn an invaluable life lesson. Just like Abraham was zealous to do God’s will at daybreak, so too should we strive to grab opportunities to do good without hesitation.  Karmey Chessed is known across Israel for its repeated efforts to help struggling individuals and families.  A lesser known program offers aid specifically to soldiers serving in the IDF with families back home that are struggling.  There are seven mothers of IDF soldiers who work directly with army social workers and Karmey Chesed. They volunteer to keep abreast of who is struggling, whether emotionally, financially or because they are lone soldiers, and work to issue whatever aid they need.

Journey of Hope" with 16%Off

This book was a labor of love which quickly turned into one of remembrance. The author began his documentation with the early years of Ilan’s journey to becoming an astronaut. It chronicles Ramon’s journey from air force pilot to astronaut, and includes NASA photographs, an interview with Ilan Ramon, articles about Israel’s first astronaut.

Jerusalem Daily Photo

A fantastic day begins as the sun rises over Efrat, by Zev Rothkoff.  Nestled in the Judean hills, Efrat lies 12 kilometers south of Jerusalem, in the heart of Gush Etzion. Efrat was founded with the guiding idea of an open urban community between Hebron and Jerusalem, which would serve as a bridge between the city of the patriarchs and Israel's capital.
