Bible on POW/MIA 'Missing Man' Table in Japan Sparks Navy Investigation
04-09-2018
CBN News Mark Martin
A POW/MIA "Missing Man" table display at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Okinawa, Japan included a Bible prompting the Navy to investigate, according to Stars and Stripes.
The Military Religious Freedom Foundation and 26 families on Okinawa filed a complaint Thursday. They are demanding the Bible be removed right away from the display, along with written materials that explain why the Bible is there, the news outlet reported.
Todd Starnes, the host of the radio program, Fox News & Commentary, writes in The Patriot Post that in addition to the Bible, MRFF wants the Navy to remove a placard which reads, "The Bible represents the strength gained through faith to sustain those lost from our country, founded one nation under God."
In the formal complaint, MRFF's attorney Donald Rehkopf Jr. wrote, "The statement on the exhibit's placard is nothing more than an illegal, unconstitutional proselytization from an extremist, fundamentalist Christian sect. It ignores all followers of other religions and totally ignores all those who subscribe to no religion — all in blatant violation of (Department of Defense) and (Department of the Navy) regulations."
Navy Live, The Official Blog of the U.S. Navy, explains the reason for the Bible: "The Bible represents faith in a higher power and the pledge to our country, founded as one nation under God."
"Why is that Bible there?" asked MRFF founder and president Mikey Weinstein, according to Stars and Stripes. "Can you imagine if somebody put a Quran there, or the book of Satan, or the Book of Mormon? It violates the (First Amendment's establishment clause) as well as DoD and Navy regulations."
The complaint also demands an independent investigation into who set up the "Missing Man" table and "appropriate disciplinary measures", Stars and Stripes reported.
If the situation is not resolved to their liking, MRFF lawyers say they will file a third-party inspector general complaint and possibly a federal lawsuit, according to the news outlet.
"Not all POWs are Christian," Weinstein said in the Stars and Stripes report. "This is America. We are a representative, secular democracy… the Constitution is worth standing up for."
According to its website, MRFF "is dedicated to ensuring that all members of the United States Armed Forces fully receive the Constitutional guarantee of religious freedom to which they and all Americans are entitled by virtue of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment."
However, Starnes disagrees. He calls MRFF "a radical group that has a history of targeting public displays of Christianity."
The general counsel for First Liberty Institute, Hiram Sasser, wants the Navy to not give in to MRFF.
"The Bible is on the table because it is part of the tradition that predates our current demands for political correctness," he told the "Todd Starnes Radio Show." "When we telegraph to our global military competitors that the mere presence of a Bible mentally destroys some of us, we are doomed."
CBN News reached out to the hospital for comment on the investigation and is waiting to hear back.

This Is The Closest That The U.S. Has Been To Nuclear War Since The Cuban Missile Crisis - Michael Snyder THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE BLOG

Posted: 08 Aug 2017 Michael Snyder  THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE BLOG

Are we on the verge of a nuclear war with North Korea?  It has now been confirmed that North Korea has successfully created a miniaturized nuclear warhead, and last month they tested a missile that can reach at least half of the continental United States.

Since 1994 the U.S. has been trying to stop North Korea’s nuclear program, and every effort to do so has completely failed.  Last September, the North Koreans detonated a nuclear device that was estimated to be in the 20 to 30 kiloton range, and back in January, President Trump pledged to stop the North Koreans before they would ever have the capability to deliver such a weapon to U.S. cities.  But now the North Koreans have already achieved that goal, and they plan to ultimately create an entire fleet of ICBMs capable of hitting every city in America.

Right now, North Korea and the Trump administration are locked in a game of nuclear chicken.  Kim Jong Un’s regime is never, ever, ever going to give up their nuclear weapons program, and so that means that either Donald Trump is going to have to back down, find another way to deal with North Korea, or use military force to eliminate their nuclear threat.
And time is quickly running out for Trump to make a decision, because now that North Korea has the ability to produce miniaturized nuclear warheads, the game has completely changed.  The following comes from the Washington Post
North Korea has successfully produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead that can fit inside its missiles, crossing a key threshold on the path to becoming a full-fledged nuclear power, U.S. intelligence officials have concluded in a confidential assessment.
The new analysis completed last month by the Defense Intelligence Agency comes on the heels of another intelligence assessment that sharply raises the official estimate for the total number of bombs in the communist country’s atomic arsenal. The U.S. calculated last month that up to 60 nuclear weapons are now controlled by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Some independent experts believe the number of bombs is much smaller.
The truth is that nobody actually knows how many nukes North Korea has at this point, and they are pumping out more all the time.

Yes, the Trump administration could order an absolutely devastating military strike on North Korea.  But if the North Koreans even get off one nuke in response, it will be the greatest disaster for humanity since at least World War II.

But at this point Trump doesn’t sound like someone that intends to back down.  In fact, on Tuesday he threatened North Korea with “fire and fury” if they keep threatening us…
“North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States,” Trump said from the clubhouse at his golf course in Bedminster, N.J. “He has been very threatening beyond a normal state, and as I said they will be met with the fire and fury and frankly power, the likes of which this world has never seen before.”
In response to Trump’s comments, the North Koreans threatened to hit Guam with a pre-emptive strike…
If Trump thought that his bluff would be sufficient to finally shut up North Korea, and put an end to Kim’s provocative behavior, well… bluff called because North Korea’s state-run KCNA news agency reported moments ago that not only did N.Korea escalate the tensions up another notch, but explicitly warned that it could carry out a “pre-emptive operation once the US shows signs of provocation”, and that it is “seriously considering a strategy to strike Guam with mid-to-long range missiles.”
Most Americans appear to be completely oblivious to the seriousness of this crisis.  Once we hit North Korea, they will respond.  A single nuke could potentially kill millions in Tokyo, Japan or Seoul, South Korea.  And the North Koreans also have some of the largest chemical and biological weapons stockpiles on the entire planet.  If things take a bad turn, we could see death and destruction on a scale that is absolutely unprecedented.

And if the North Koreans launch an invasion of South Korea, we will instantly be committed to a new Korean War and thousands upon thousands of our young men and women will be sent over there to fight and die.

There is no possible way that a military conflict with North Korea is going to end well.  If things go badly, millions could die, and if things go really badly tens of millions of people could end up dead.

But members of the Trump administration continue to insist that “a military option” is on the table…
In an interview broadcast Saturday on MSNBC’s Hugh Hewitt Show, national security adviser H.R. McMaster said the prospect of a North Korea armed with nuclear-tipped ICBMs would be “intolerable, from the president’s perspective.”
“We have to provide all options . . . and that includes a military option,” he said.
Of course letting North Korea construct an entire fleet of ICBMs that could endanger the entire planet is not exactly a palatable option either.  The Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations all kicked the can down the road year after year, and now we facing a nightmare problem that does not appear to have a good solution.

Unfortunately for Trump, time has now run out and a decision has to be made
“Today is the day that we can definitely say North Korea is a nuclear power,” Harry Kazianis, director of defense studies at the Center for the National Interest, told USA TODAY. “There is no more time to stick our heads in the sand and think we have months or years to confront this challenge.”
Let us pray that a way can be found to derail North Korea’s nuclear program that does not involve us going to war.

Because the moment that U.S. forces start striking North Korea, the North Koreans could literally unleash hell if they are inclined to do so.

It appears that we are now closer to nuclear war than we have been at any point since the Cuban missile crisis.  A nuclear holocaust was avoided back then, and hopefully a way will be found to avoid one now.

Jerusalem Log #6 - Friday 05.05.17 Jerusalem, Israel - “Ice Cream in All Flavors”

 “Ice Cream in All Flavors”
Steve Martin
Jerusalem Log #6 - Friday 05.05.17

Greetings from the land of Israel.

I certainly have enjoyed writing these brief daily logs. I hope you have found pleasure in reading them!

We each have our favorite flavor of ice cream. For some, the standard, foundational choices of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry satisfy just fine. Neapolitan I believe if you want all three at once. For the bold and adventurous type, Rocky Road, Mint Chocolate Chip or Carmel Pecan does it for you.

For me – it’s Rocky Road baby! (Mint chocolate is a close second.)

When it comes to the inhabitants and amazing cultures in Israel, here too there are many flavors. Just among the Jews themselves you have variations ranging from the Ultra-Orthodox, the Messianics, the secular, and a few in between each.

Birthday party near Jerusalem

Then there are the Arab Christians, the Arab Muslims, and I suppose just Arabs. I know a few shop owners in the Old City who would probably adhere to one label, but really not devoted to religion but primarily their daily business.

And within the mix of all this, especially in the larger cities of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Eilat and Tiberias, of course you have the tourists. Now there for sure is a wide choice of creams in all colors, shapes and sizes.

Not only have the Jewish people returned to their Land permanently with aliyah, to join those already living here, you also have in the Land at all times the tourists coming for a few days or a few weeks. They too have arrived from England, France, Germany, Russia, China, Japan, India, Brazil, Kenya, Canada, and of course the good old US of A, from where I reside in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. Walking through the historical and spiritual sites, you hear all the different languages and thank the Lord that He is not a “one flavor” God. He creates and loves them all.

Tourists from India in Bethlehem

For those who have had the great joy of coming to Israel on a tour or to visit friends as I do, you know what I am talking about. For the ones reading this who never have, and hope to, I am glad to share my heart in words, pictures and videos with you. May you experience a taste of Israel through these, and enjoy your favorite ice cream while you do! (Pass the chocolate syrup please.)

Ahava (love) and Shalom (peace) from Israel!

Team Israel's surprise run into the second round of the World Baseball Classic ended Wednesday when Japan defeated the self-proclaimed Jew Crew 8-3 at Tokyo Dome.
The Israelis won their first four games of the tournament to advance to the second round, and were poised to score another upset of a baseball power Wednesday, locked in a scoreless tie with Japan through five innings. Josh Zeid pitched gallantly, giving up four hits over four scoreless innings before departing after throwing 67 pitches.
Japan, however, got to Israel's bullpen for five runs in the sixth inning, including a home run from Yoshitomo Tsutsugoh, and built the lead to 8-0 through eight innings before Israel scored three runs in the ninth.
Israel finished 1-2 and in third place in Pool E, and 4-2 overall in the tournament, a significant step forward for a team that had to qualify for the WBC and was ranked 41st at the start of the tourney. The ragtag collection of mostly American-born players received plaudits from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and made their early-morning games appointment viewing for many Jews in the USA.
Advancing out of group play means the Israelis won't have to qualify for the 2021 WBC, however, and could inspire participation from other U.S.-born Jews in the major leagues.
Japan remained unbeaten in the WBC and remains the only country to advance to the semifinals in all four editions of the event. Japan won the WBC in 2006 and 2009, but lost in the 2013 semifinals to Puerto Rico.

Longtime Missionary to Japan Dies at 88 - DAN WOODING/ASSIST NEWS SERVICE

Longtime Missionary to Japan Dies at 88

Join us on our podcast each weekday for an interesting story, well told, from Charisma News. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

Kenny Joseph, longtime missionary to Japan, passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, in Fullerton, California, at the age of 88.
Kenny and his wife, Lila, who met in Japan, were two people who answered General Douglas MacArthur's request for 10,000 missionaries to go to Japan at the end of World War II to help spiritually rebuild the devastated country after the firebombing of Tokyo and the two nuclear bombings that put an end to the war with Japan.
Kenny Joseph was born in Chicago, Illinois, on Oct. 30, 1928, to Assyrian-American immigrant parents Sam and Martha Joseph. Raised in the Presbyterian church, he accepted Christ at a Charles E. Fuller rally held at Soldier Field when he was 17 years old.
After attending Moody Bible Institute and Bob Jones University, Joseph traveled to Japan in 1951 at the age of 23 to begin serving as a missionary with TEAM. In 1954, he met fellow missionary Lila Finsaas, the two were married in 1955, and they served together in Japan before relocating their ministry to the U.S. in 2012.
Joseph served in numerous capacities in Japan, editing publications that served the missionary community, including Japan Harvest and The Japan Journal, and he later founded and published REAP Magazine, which he published and edited for a decade. He also authored the Japan Missionary Language Handbook first released in 1955 and re-released in 1982 as Combined Japan Missionary Language Handbook.
He was a tireless advocate of the theory that Christianity arrived in Japan far earlier than commonly understood. He wrote extensively that the Christian faith first appeared in Japan in the second century, not in 1549, when most scholars believe Francis Xavier first brought the gospel to Japan. He had recently completed his final book, Japan's Christian Roots, at the time of his passing.
A pioneering missionary who used innovative techniques to spread the gospel in Asia, Joseph taught at Japan Christian College and later coined the term "ad-vangelism": buying advertising in secular publications for Christian-themed messages. He later championed the cause of using Christian weddings to promulgate Christianity in Japan, performing them himself and facilitating opportunities for other missionaries to perform them as well.
He was also involved in Bible-smuggling efforts throughout Asia and traveled beyond Japan to other Asian nations, including Korea, India, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Thailand and others. He performed the final evangelistic crusades in Vietnam before the fall of Saigon. In the 1970s, he was involved with anti-Communist organizations in Asia. Since 1976, he pastored Grace Church in Tokyo and founded REAP Mission (Reinforcing Evangelists and Aiding Pastors) in 1967.
"Kenny Joseph expressed his love for the Lord by obeying the command to feed His sheep," noted REAP Mission Chairman William F. Turner, who supervised Joseph's missionary work since 1978. "He ran the race, he kept the faith and completed his remarkable journey on this earth."
I had the rare privilege of writing up the amazing story of Kenny and Lila Joseph in a book called God's Ambassadors in Japan, and flew to Tokyo to help launch it and meet with his many friends there. I have written many biographies, but this one was special because Kenny and Lila were such dedicated and fascinating people to be with.
Joseph returned to the U.S. in 2012 and continued a busy schedule until the end, working on his forthcoming book and conducting speaking engagements. A lifelong Cubs fan who once tried out for the team in high school, he lived to see his beloved team win the World Series. He is survived by his wife, Lila, sister Barbara, and four sons—Robert, Mark, Ken and Jim—as well as 15 grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be held in Southern California on Jan. 21. Details will be posted at kennyjoseph.com, where you can order a copy of his book, and see more photos of his life and ministry.
Dan Wooding is an award-winning winning author, broadcaster and journalist who was born in Nigeria, West Africa, of British missionary parents, Alfred and Anne Wooding, who then worked with the Sudan Interior Mission, now known as SIM. He now lives in Southern California with his wife, Norma, to whom he has been married for more than 53 years. They have two sons, Andrew and Peter, and six grandchildren who all live in the U.K. Dan is the founder/president of the ASSIST News Service (ANS), and is also the author or co-author of some 45 books, including God's Ambassadors in Japan. He has a weekly radio show and two TV programs all based in Southern California.

JUST IN: ISRAEL CUTS TIES - Taylor FFS (Freedom's Final Stand)

JUST IN: ISRAEL CUTS TIES

by Taylor  FFS (Freedom's Final Stand) Dec. 29, 2016
After the Obama administration decided to kick its feet up and watch the United Nations pass anti-Israel settlements, Netanyahu began to take action.
His first step? Severing ties with countries that backed the U.N.’s settlement that the United States abstained from voting in.

BI reports:
Israel’s Foreign Ministry has reportedly suspended all working ties with 12 of the UN Security Council countries that voted to pass a resolution urging Israel to halt building settlements on occupied Palestinian land.
The move came at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s request, one day after he summoned 10 of the nations’ ambassadors to Jerusalem to personally reprimand them for the vote.
Foreign ministers and ambassadors from Britain, France, Russia, China, Japan, Ukraine, Angola, Egypt, Uruguay, Spain, Senegal and New Zealand will not be received at Israel’s Foreign Ministry amid the suspension, the Times of Israel reported . They will also not be granted an audience with Netanyahu.
After the anti-Israel settlement was passed, Donald Trump said, “As to the UN, things will be different after Jan. 20th.”

This Violent, Gruesome Mel Gibson Movie Could Be the Next Faith-Based Hit - JIM DENISON CHARISMA NEWS

This Violent, Gruesome Mel Gibson Movie Could Be the Next Faith-Based Hit

JIM DENISON  CHARISMA NEWS
People are talking today about the new Apple iPhone, congressional debates over legislation to battle Zika, and Gretchen Carlson's $20 million settlement with Fox. But the news that most caught my eye this morning has to do with a movie that won't be in theaters for two more months.

Hacksaw Ridge is Mel Gibson's new film. It tells the true story of Desmond Doss, a World War II army medic who refused to bear arms but received the Medal of Honor after he saved dozens of his fellow soldiers. The movie was shown at the Venice International Film Festival last Saturday. According to USA Today, the audience gave Gibson a 10-minute standing ovation when the film ended.

It was my privilege to see Hacksaw Ridge at a private showing a few days ago, then participate in a discussion with Gibson. I don't remember ever being as moved by a movie as I was by his film. Looking back, I can identify three reasons for my response.

Part of my reaction was the realism with which Gibson depicts the violence of the battle scenes. Hacksaw Ridge is a cliff-like formation on the island of Okinawa, Japan. It was the scene of a two-week struggle between U.S. and Japanese soldiers. Gibson told our group that he depicted the war violence with such realism in order to demonstrate the atrocities Doss faced and the courage he displayed.

A second reason for my visceral reaction is the fact that my father, a World War II veteran, fought with the Army in the South Pacific. He would not discuss what he experienced with our family. Like so many veterans, he could not put into words what he went through. I have visited several World War II museums and had a sense of what the Pacific theater was like, but the movie brought home my father's suffering in a way that moved me deeply. It made me realize again the immeasurable sacrifice so many continue to make in defending our nation and our freedoms around the world.

A third factor is the story of Desmond Doss himself. His commitment to his Christian faith and specifically to nonviolence resonated powerfully throughout the film. He risked his life in the most horrific circumstances imaginable to save his fellow soldiers and to serve his Lord. I agree with Greg Laurie: "This is the most positive portrayal of a Christian in a mainstream film that I have seen since Chariots of Fire."

I hope you'll see Hacksaw Ridge when it opens in theaters Nov. 4. As I have noted, the war violence it depicts is very realistic. But the story it tells is truly one for the ages.

During our group discussion, I asked Mel Gibson why he chose to make the film. He explained that Desmond Doss' heroic faith so moved him that he felt compelled to tell his story to the world. He noted that more than 80 percent of Americans identify as Christians, yet Hollywood very seldom presents our faith in a positive light.

Our culture deserves to see authentic Christianity. "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?" (Rom. 10:14). Desmond Doss was willing to pay any price to follow Jesus. Now it's our turn.
