‘Incredibly Significant’: One Man’s Quest for the Ark of the Covenant Takes Him Beneath the Temple Mount
July 5, 2019  CBN News Chris Mitchell, Julie Stahl
JERUSALEM, Israel - For centuries, the search for the Ark of the Covenant has captured the imagination of movie makers, archeologists and even a queen of England.  Legends have placed the Ark in such faraway places as Ethiopia or Ireland.
Researcher and author Harry Moskoff took CBN News through the Western Wall tunnels, up to the ramparts of the Temple Mount and into the chambers surrounding Judaism’s holiest site.  His book, The A.R.K Report, chronicles his two-decade quest to find the legendary icon.
He says one theory is that it was taken out of the Temple and carried to Jericho eighteen miles away.
“It says in Jeremiah that some of the vessels of the Temple were exited, sort of escaped as it were, through this area at the destruction of the First Temple,” he explained.
Moskoff took CBN News to the spot where he believes the Ark really lies.
Moskoff believes a key clue lies behind a 570-ton rock and says high tech search tools give credence to his theory.
“Two years ago, there were tests done by the University of Nebraska, sonar tests…using electromagnetic waves.  They actually found what’s called a storage space across from here,” said Moskoff.
“So actually, there was a purpose for putting this giant stone, this massive slab here.  One of the reasons, in my opinion, is to protect whatever it is on the other side.  And according to my theory of where the Ark was actually buried by King Josiah, I think it was 568 BC – in back of these boulders, these massive stones,” he said.
Underneath the Temple Mount lie dozens of underground tunnels and chambers.
“Back then, a 150 years ago, Charles Warren went in and actually did a survey,” Moskoff said, adding that political tensions prevent anyone from excavating underneath the Temple Mount today.
“No one’s been allowed to even put a shovel, nothing.  But, basically, they were the ones that surveyed the whole area and they were the ones who picked out the tunnels...They couldn’t find the Ark.”
Warren, a British explorer, documented those tunnels at the request of Queen Victoria. He was just one of many throughout history looking for the Ark.
“When people like the Crusaders and the Knights Templar, even the Palestine Exploration Fund, which was originally commissioned by Queen Victoria, came over the centuries to look for the Ark, what they were looking for was a golden box with the staves.  But what they really should have been looking for is a room.  They could have been right up against the wall and on the other side of the wall is the Ark,” said Moskoff.
Moskoff believes the original Holy of Holies had another chamber directly beneath it.
“Actually, in the blueprint itself of the First Temple, a chamber should be built [exactly] the same [as the] Holy of Holies, exactly the same level of holiness as the one just above it.  It was set up right from the beginning to house the Ark, with the golden floor and everything,” he said.
Moskoff explained that Solomon built the Holy of Holies so that the Ark could go below it.
He believes the Ark will be revealed one day.
“Timing is incredibly important, incredibly significant.  Obviously, it’s a groundbreaking, game-changing, biblical type of discovery.  My personal opinion is that when it does happen it won’t be in a clandestine way.  Where we are sneaking through these tunnels, you know what I mean, and we’re bringing it out under the cover of darkness.  It will be a great occasion and will help bring the Messiah.  It will be something all nations will really rejoice in,” the researcher explained.
Moskoff credits Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark for the renewed interest.
“There are some things they got right about the power of the Ark…and its destructive forces shouldn’t get into the wrong hands."
Moskoff wants the world to know that the Ark is more than just a piece of history.
“It’s a real thing. Just like it did 2700 years ago it still exists today.  It’s got the broken tablets that Moses crashed down there at Mt. Sinai and the second tablets.  It really does exist.  We’re really going to see it hopefully in our lifetime again.  It is a catalyst for the Messiah to come."
Until it is revealed, the Ark of the Covenant built by Moses in the wilderness will continue to fascinate the world.

Archaeologists to Excavate Ancient City Where Ark of the Covenant May Have Rested

Researchers are preparing to excavate Kiryat Ye'arim, an ancient biblical site believed to be where the Philistines kept the ark for a time after capturing it in battle (1 Sam. 5).
Kiryat Ye'arim, translated Kiriath Jearim, is known in the Bible as a Judean town near Jerusalem during the time of Israel's ancient judges, according to reports.
The archaeological project in Kiryat Ye'arim, led by Tel Aviv University and College de France, will last Aug. 7-Sept. 1, reports say.
Israel Finkelstein, one of the project's overseers, hopes the dig will unearth important information about the city's ancient people.
The site has been largely untouched before now, reports the Times of Israel. Some believe the site once contained an ancient pagan temple, the remains of which may still rest underground.
The book of 1 Samuel recounts the ark of the covenant was kept at Kiryat Ye'arim for 20 years after the Philistines returned it. The Philistines had stolen the ark after defeating the Israelites in battle, but the Lord inflicted them with plagues until the ark rested in Israel once again (1 Sam. 5-6).
But Jeremiah prophesied a day in which God's people would forget about the ark of the covenant.
"It shall come to pass when you are multiplied and increased in the land in those days, says the Lord, they will say no more, 'The ark of the covenant of the Lord.' And it will not come to mind, nor will they remember it, nor will they call for it, nor will it be made any more. At that time they will call Jerusalem, the Throne of the Lord, and all the nations will be gathered to it, to Jerusalem, for the name of the Lord; nor will they walk any more after the stubbornness of their evil hearts" (Jer. 3:16-17).

Hidden Vessels of King Solomon: Have They Been Discovered? ✡ "Ark of the Covenant" - ISRAEL365

And the priests brought in the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord unto its place, into the Sanctuary of the House, to the holy of holies, even under the wings of the cherubim.

Today's Israel Inspiration

Today's verse describes the Ark of the Covenant being brought to the most holy section of the Temple, called the קֹדֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִׁים Holy of Holies. While the entire Temple Mount is filled with holiness to this day, the most sacred place was the Holy of Holies, the innermost room of the Temple. The Ark of the Covenant is placed there upon the “foundation stone,” which is, according to the Sages of the Talmud, where the world's Creation began. It is the same location where Abraham was willing to sacrifice Isaac (Genesis 22), and the site where one day the Third Temple will again stand. Today, Rabbi Yehuda Glick, founder of the Temple Mount Heritage Foundation, fulfills a vital mission of educating the world of the significance of the Temple Mount, the spiritual center of the world, from where ultimate peace for all mankind will emanate.

The Hidden Vessels of King Solomon's Temple: Where Are They Now?

Just before the Temple's destruction, the Jewish priests (kohanim) hid away the Temple's vessels to avoid capture. After years of searching, their hiding place may finally have been discovered.

Behind the Scenes: Finding the Lost Ark & Temple Vessels

Go behind the scenes with an exclusive interview with Harry H. Moskoff, whose new short film shows where the clues to the secret location of the Temple vessels and treasures may actually lie today.

The CIA and the Search for the Ark of the Covenant

“David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale-judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the Lord of hosts who sits enthroned on the cherubim.” (2 Samuel 6:1-23)
Moskoff shares his theory that the most prized find in archaeological history may be within an elaborate tunnel system below the temple mount.
Uncover the Truth Behind the A.R.K.
He also discusses why they CIA has been tracking the search for biblical artifacts, the reason that governmental powers are preventing a search of the tunnels, the involvement of the Knights Templar, his thoughts on the Da Vinci Code, what role the Ark might play in Bible prophecy, and more.

"When the Shofar Sounds" ✡ Hebrew Meaning of the Word "Shofar"

All you inhabitants of the world and dwellers of the earth - you will see when the banner is hoisted up upon the mountains, and when the shofar sounds you will hear!

ISAIAH (18:3)

Today's Israel Inspiration

Here is an incredible lesson from the holy language of Hebrew. The word "shofar" comes from the word לשפר - le-sha-fayr which means "to improve." The sound of the shofar awakens us to beautify our deeds as we strive to improve ourselves. We pray for the fulfillment of today's verse when the shofar's sound will be heard throughout the Land in the final days of redemption.

The Rastafarian Messiah Guarding the Ark of the Covenant

The search for the Lost Ark of the Covenant has inspired treasure hunters and religious believers for thousands of years. However, one of the most unexpected and rarely discussed connections related to the possible secret hiding place of the holy object lies with Jamaican Rastafarians.

Meet the “Jewish Indiana Jones” Searching for the Lost Ark of the Covenant

Meet the “Jewish Indiana Jones” Searching for the Lost Ark of the Covenant

“David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale-judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the Lord of hosts who sits enthroned on the cherubim.” (2 Samuel 6:1-23)
The Ark of the Covenant has inspired a whole sector of humanity to chase after one of the world’s most treasured – and missing – items. In what is known today as the Lost Ark, the search continues for Judaism’s most holy and significant artifact of religious and historical importance.
Meet Harry Moskoff, the man who is becoming known as the “Jewish Indiana Jones.” A filmmaker and researcher by hobby and an IT specialist by trade, Moskoff has spent the last 25 years of his life dedicated to uncovering the location of the Lost Ark.
“Truth of the matter is, for the last 25 years, it’s been a personal hobby of mine to find the Makom Hamikdash, the exact location where the Jewish Temple once stood,” he told Breaking Israel News.
Inspired by the teachings of Maimonides, Moskoff has met with world renowned rabbinical and archaeological authorities in Israel as he comes closer to finding the Lost Ark.
God first commanded Moses to build the Ark of the Covenant in the Book of Exodus:
“Have them make an Ark of acacia wood – two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high. Overlay it with pure gold, both inside and out, and make a gold molding around it…Then put in the ark the tablets of the covenant law, which I will give you.” (Exodus 25:10-16)
Plated with pure gold and mounted with two golden Cherubim, the Ark was carried by the Levites as the Jewish nation wandered in the desert for 40 years. Playing a significant role in various Biblical accounts, the Ark is described as having supernatural powers.
Eventually, the Ark came to rest in the First Temple, which was built by King Solomon. The Ark was placed in a special inner room known as the Holy of Holies, where the High Priest would enter once a year on Yom Kippur.
The Ark was last seen in 586 BCE when the Babylonians conquered Jerusalem and destroyed the First Temple. What happened to the Ark remains unknown until today.

Moskoff believes that he is getting closer to finding the true location of where the Ark is buried – right under the Temple Mount itself. His “Moskoff Theory” explains that where we believe the location of the Holy of Holies is – the current location of the Dome of the Rock – is in fact wrong.
Based on historical, archaeological, topographical and biblical evidence, the Moskoff Theory states (in simple terms) that when we find the true location of the Holy of Holies, the Ark of the Covenant may very well be found in a secret chamber built directly underneath, in a room built for it by King Solomon, who foresaw the destruction of the Temple. He Designed this underground Temple room to hide and protect the Ark for future generations until the advent of the Third Temple.
“Is the Dome of the Rock the real place of the Temple? Some Jewish sages argue that God would never put any building on top of the Holy of Holies,” Moskoff explains. “The Dome of the Rock is not on the Foundation Stone, but rather the highest point on Mount Moriah.”
Moskoff explained that after researching various theories by well-known historians who claim to know the exact location of the Jewish Temples and where various features, such as the altar, stood, he realized that “they all cancelled each other out.”
“I found in one theory that some things just didn’t make sense with the original topography of the mountain. It didn’t jive,” he said. “So I went to another famous theory and found that things didn’t make sense from a scriptural perspective.”
“The game changer that made me pursue with interest the Lost Ark was a book published in 1982 called ‘In the Shadow of the Temple’ by the great Israeli archaeologist Meir Ben-Dov. That book changed my whole perspective,” Moskoff said.
In his book, Ben-Dov recalls the discovery of a tunnel spoken about in Jewish scripture that was used by ritually impure priests. The tunnel is said to run directly under the Temple Mount.
“The tunnel ran to the south under the Mount into a ritual bath with a fire and bathroom. This place is described in the Talmud. He (Ben-Dov) found that tunnel and it exists today, described in the exact same way,” Moskoff said.
“This tunnel was blocked up 150 years ago and it is clear that the original finders wanted it to remain closed. Over 2,000 years old, the tunnel exists in complete form. If we go through that tunnel it would lead us to the exact location of the Temple because we know from scripture where it surfaced.”
“Following the tunnel would either prove or disprove the Moskoff Theory! It would tell us the exact place of the altar, Holy of Holies and the location of the Ark,” he explained.
“The archaeologists were not religious and it was a huge find,” he continued. “Once I read about this find, I thought how all the other theories were not possible with the direction of the tunnel. Something clicked and I realized that what we think about the Temple Mount today is not all correct.”

While some may roll their eyes and say Moskoff is just another adventurer out for glory, this notion is far from the truth. He is the first person to ever come close to finding the Ark in a way that makes sense.
“I’ve spoken with other archaeologists and researchers. None of them have the scriptural sources or references where the holiest and most valuable item ever in history is located,” Moskoff stated. “None of them are looking for the Ark from a true Jewish, traditional, biblical perspective combining all the sources.”
“Everyone is looking in Ethiopia and other places where there are no real proofs as to the location of the Ark.”
When asked about the importance of his quest, Moskoff explained his belief that in today’s world, with the worsening geopolitical situation surrounding Jerusalem, finding the Ark would “validate and strengthen the Jewish connection and rights to Jerusalem.”
“I discovered that when talking about the Ark, you can’t not talk about what is happening in Israel today. Every day, Jerusalem and the Temple Mount are in the headlines. By discovering the Ark and even other Temple related artifacts, we can have an effect on the validation of the Jewish connection to Jerusalem,” he said.
Moskoff has become one of the world’s foremost experts on the Ark of the Covenant. Explaining in further detail the “Moskoff Theory,” Judaism’s Indiana Jones published “The A.R.K. Report” and an accompanying documentary which further features how Moskoff is reaching new levels of understanding about the Lost Ark.
Backed by a historical and biblical understanding, Moskoff is narrowing the gap between an important part of Jewish history and modern times. “The idea is to raise awareness and inspire people. This is just the beginning for Israel,” he said.
“In the big picture of Jewish history, things are speaking up and coming to a close. We can’t deny it. Things are happening now to the Jewish people and I want to tell people, show people, that there is a great and holy future for Israel.”
