Towards the future, hope and charity - Israel Today

Towards the future, hope and charity

Monday, February 22, 2016 |  Israel Today Staff
It is evening and a wounded Syrian young man reaches an army base - on the Syrian side of the border! Should he not receive urgent medical treatment he would succumb to his injuries.
Troops of the IDF's 366th division were preparing to summon the division's medics when they had to determine that the wounded Syrian was one of the rebel troops and not an Islamist. They had to take the necessary precautions to ensure that the situation was genuine, without planted explosives, and not simply a ploy.
The Givati unit, responsible for the security along the Golan border, gave the green light for the treatment of the wounded Syrian. The soldiers worked quickly because time is of the essence for the Syrian with serious gunshot wounds and to them it does not matter who the person is when it comes to saving a life.
To date, over 1600 wounded Syrians have been treated in Israeli hospitals.
Many soldiers and paramedics are surprised by the severity of the wounds of many of the wounded. Especially the number of wounded women and children which make up the majority of the wounded being brought for treatment. Sometimes the soldiers find it difficult to keep their emotions under control at the sight of some of the wounded.
Aboud Dandachi, a 39-year-old engineer and a refugee now resident in Turkey, having experienced the bloody Syrian civil war first hand, has created a website called "Thank You Am Israel." http://www.thankyouamisrael.com.
"Thank You Am Israel" reports on the support that Syrian refugees receive, either directly from the State of Israel or from Jewish organizations or groups. "My upbringing taught me that 'these people are your enemies. The Jews are evil'!!"
"After what I have seen and experienced since leaving Syria," Dandachi continued, "I have come to the realization that Jews are the most humane and generous people. We have Jews who even endanger themselves to help us. So why should I be an enemy of the Jews? They have proven that they want to be my friends. They held out their hand in friendship, so why should I be against them?"
TZAHAL - You are our heroes!!
