Guidance - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Guidance
- Now Think On This
by Steve Martin

“Your ears will hear a word behind you, "This is the way, walk in it," whenever you turn to the right or to the left.” Isaiah 3-:21 NASU

We all need guidance in our life. The Lord promises to give it to us, if we ask Him.

While some would choose to just keep walking in the way that seems right to them, the Lord says that if we seek Him, He will show us the right way. Whether that would be a decision we need to make in marriage, buying a home, making a job change, or knowing what to do with one we ourselves are giving care to, the Lord has promised that He has the answer if we but ask. We can receive wisdom from the Lord.

“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” James 1:5-8 NASU

Over the many years I have walked with the Lord, there are several ways He has given me to help in my decision making, and to know if the answer is His will or not. I would like to share them with you, as you seek Him for guidance.

1.      Daily reading of God’s Word will bring guidance. There are many directives in His Word that we can already know what His will is, as they have been given as our daily life’s road map. With these already written down for us in His Word, He has already spoken what is truth. We can base our decisions on those standards, and not the world’s ways. At other times the Holy Spirit will have a verse or two “jump out at you” while reading, quickening your spirit, to give you an answer to your question.

2.      If the Lord has already blessed you with a mate (a wife in my situation), ask them to pray along with you concerning the situation. Discernment given to them can be an affirmation to what the Lord would speak to you. A pastor or close friend can also pray and ask the Lord for a word for you, as long as you don’t trust solely in them, but the Holy Spirit’s word. There is wisdom in the counsel of many.

3.      A prophetic word has often been an encouragement to me when received. Given by one who has the gift of prophecy has been very helpful, as the Lord will use them to bring enlightenment. If you know someone who has the gift of prophecy, ask them to seek the Lord on your behalf. Be mindful that you will always need discernment in receiving any word given by another, so as not to just go by what another would say. A word received is just another piece of the puzzle to consider.

4.      Circumstances do play a role in discerning the will of the Lord. Something may happen that seems to come “out of the blue”, or “it just happens”. Consider that the Lord is using that circumstance to bring further guidance. At times circumstances can also occur that will keep you from going a certain way. The Lord is known to use those in directing your path.

5.      The Holy Spirit can speak a word to you quietly in your thoughts. That sense of “Where did that come from?” thought may very well be the Holy Spirit nudging you, sharing with you a message in regards to the situation. It may just be a simple word, but that word can very well be just what you need. He may also use a dream or vision to guide you. Don’t dismiss those thoughts, but ponder them for further confirmation. Write them down so you don’t forget them. The fulfillment of that dream or other supernatural method of bringing you a directive may occur later,

6.      The timing of the Lord is vital to making the right decision. He is not in a hurry to just lay out His will for you, giving you all the steps at once. He delights when you take the proper time to seek Him. Often He will give you one step at a time. If He delays in giving you an answer (or what we many times deem as a delay), know that it is because He is lining up other situations that may have to come about before your time is now.

7.      Once you believe you have received the answer, have confidence in Him and make the move. Carry out what He has told you in obedience. Faith is always necessary when walking in the right way. Do not let the enemy bring doubt or try to make you second guess what you believe is right. The peace of the Lord should be with and in your spirit.

Though the enemy may try to bring confusion and double-mindedness along the way, the peace of the Lord will be present if you have made the right decision. As one teacher would say, “You know in your knower” that the decision you made is the one from the Lord. Carrying out that decision may take you on a rough road, but it will be the right road to take. There are many examples of taking the right road, even when the journey will not be so pleasant. Jesus’ crucifixion is a prime example.

Many good books have been written by trusted authors/teachers on how to seek the Lord’s guidance. One of the best ones I ever read, simple but very instructive, was by Bible teacher Bob Mumford in the 1970’s It is called “Take Another Look At Guidance.” The 20th year edition was printed again by Lifechangers in 1993, and can be found on Amazon.com.

Another highly recommended Bible teacher is Derek Prince, who has several spoken and written words on guidance. His material can be found at www.derekprince.com, or www.derekprince.org.

I myself have published two books that are helpful in learning to walk in the Lord’s guidance. One is entitled The Promise – One Man’s Journey To See God’s Word Revealed. I share my life’s journey and how the Lord led me. It can be purchased at Amazon.com. Look here.

Another one is Prophetic Stories: Signs Along The Way. I share several chapters on how the Lord gave me words and dreams that gave guidance to myself and others. Look here.

The Lord Jesus does not want us to just let “whatever will be will be” for us. He wants to continually have His Holy Spirit give us instruction on how to walk in the way, and which way that is. Whether in making a life changing decision or one that seems too little to bother Him with, He has given us the Holy Spirit as our Comforter. He is always there for us. (John 14:26)

It is a journey of faith as we walk with the Lord. We must continually seek the Lord for His will and way, trusting that our times are in His hands, and that He wants the best for us and those we live amongst. As you learn to seek Him in all your ways, He will bless you with goodness.

Information Versus Revelation by Dennis Reanier - Identity Network

Information Versus Revelation

by Dennis Reanier

Identity Network

I was once on a ministry trip in San Diego, California having dinner with a couple who were expecting to be grandparents in the next couple of weeks. While we were eating the woman received a phone call from their daughter who had just returned from an OBGYN appointment, where the doctor had been unable to find the baby's heart beat.

The woman got off of the phone traumatized as she shared the bad news about her daughter and granddaughter. When I felt quickened by the Spirit to ask them if we could pray. In agreement, we decided to pray as we were leaving the restaurant. Where we stopped and held hands in the parking lot and prayed in agreement for peace for the mother and for the baby to come back to life.

The next day I received a phone call from the grandfather saying that his daughter had just returned from the OBGYN. He proceeded to tell me that she had returned for an appointment where doctors were to make plans to remove the dead baby from her womb. But while she was there she asked the doctor to take the heartbeat one last time. The doctor complied with her request surprised to find the baby's heart beating normally. The baby had been raised from the dead in her mother's womb!

Can Jesus Really Raise the Dead?

I love that God likes to show up where we expect death, and give life.  Can Jesus really raise the dead?  How can it be possible for Him to use you to raise the dead? God doesn't just raise the dead - He is the Resurrection! Now the same Spirit that resurrected Jesus from the dead is the exact same Spirit that has become your new identity.

Jesus said that, "I am the way, the truth and the light."  The word truth is actually best translated as the word reality.  In other words, the word truth here is not about right and wrong.  It's about a whole other reality.  Jesus came to bring the reality of His Kingdom into the reality of our world.

In the above testimony the dead baby was a reality based on all of the information that we had from this world.  But the supernatural reality of God's Kingdom revealed was different than the natural reality of this mother and her baby. Knowing that like Bill Johnson teaches the inferior reality of this world must submit to the superior reality of His Kingdom.

It's not about pretending that your circumstances and situations are not reality. It is about knowing that there is a different reality than the one you might currently be experiencing.  Then believing God's reality over your reality. Helping us to understand that there is a biblical distinction to make between information and revelation. We receive information through the natural senses of our flesh and in the same way, we receive revelation in the spirit through our spiritual senses.

Our Union with the Holy Spirit

The abundant life is the manifestation of revelation received through our union with Holy Spirit, so we can activate the faith diffused throughout our soul to experience the things that we believe. This is not faith based on our natural ability to hope for positive things. This is faith based on His supernatural reality!

Many Christians misunderstand the term faith. They apply it to positive confession based on hope from information received by our body's natural senses. They say things like, "I'm trusting in faith that God is going to give me this new job I applied for yesterday." If God did not say He was giving them a new job, then it is not based in revelation; it is not biblical faith! It is hope!

There is nothing wrong with hope. The Bible lists it as one of three things that will remain for all eternity. But hope can only take us so far before we need faith to take over. The problem occurs when hope is disguised as faith. If the above person doesn't get the job described, they can become disillusioned about their faith in God. As they believe they have been deceived and that He has let them down once again, when all along it wasn't Him speaking.

Even the Bible can be reduced to information without a relationship with Holy Spirit resulting in revelation, where we can begin to worship the Bible, rather than the God of the Bible. Finding out later that it doesn't work to just quote information from chapter and verse of the Bible without revelation. It is not enough to know about the things of God. You must personally have revelation from God Himself in order to have authority to experience the manifestation of those promises.

Living in Purpose and Victory

The Holy Spirit gives us revelation so we can live in the purpose and victory of that revelation. When we do not live in the activation of that revelation, we set ourselves up for defeat. The abundant life is about getting a revelation and then living according to that blueprint in our thoughts and actions. The enemy cannot prevail against you when you are resting in Holy Spirit's revelation, but the enemy can prevail against you as you rely on information through your own strength and abilities.

Often as believers we can get a little information coupled with hope, go in our own strength and ability, and be deceived as we try to make something happen for ourselves. Then we call it faith, although we are doing our own thing; we expect God to show up and make us look good.  Instead of waiting to hear from Holy Spirit before launching out to do anything in the first place!

Like my friend Kris Vallaton would say, "The problem with being deceived, is that you don't know that you're deceived." As a result, God will say, "Let Me get out of your way so you can try it on your own!" As we are reminded that we are not acting like ourselves, and the words of Jesus echo in our thoughts, "Apart from me you can do nothing."  God does not bless all things! He only blesses those things of which He is a part!

It's Time to Tear Down the Walls of Self-Protection By Eileen Fisher - Identity Network

It's Time to Tear Down the Walls of Self-Protection By Eileen Fisher

The Lord kept giving me a vision of how many times we try to reach through to Him-we pray, we fast, we read His Word, we worship. And He said, "If only you knew how hard the enemy tries to block you but how easy it is to come into My presence when you declare I am Lord - because he must bow down. For greater is He that is within you than he that is in the world."

And He said, "It's a very, very short trip, because when you live in holiness, you're living in My presence. For holy cries out to holy, and holiness cries out to wholeness. What you need right now, whether it be your children, your spouse, your finances, your health, lift it up to Me right now, for I can make all things whole. Like the woman with the issue of blood, she pressed through, and I made her whole. Not only did I heal them in the physical, but I also made them whole."

"The man who had the legion - he was insane, and he couldn't even reach out, other than to recognize Me. But he cried out with what little bit he could, and I made Him whole."

Going Beyond Circumstances

"The man who couldn't walk, even his parents were afraid. But I go beyond circumstances. And I establish wholeness, for I am the God of wholeness - the Alpha, the Omega. I understand every heart, every wall that has been put up for protection because of woundedness or simply because of just not knowing."

"Open your heart and your hands! I want you to open your hands right now and allow Me to come in and take down any wall, any kind of hindrance, whether it be a large wall that you've been hitting your head against for years or a teeny, tiny picket fence-anything that would block My presence from just devouring you to where you could be swallowed up in the goodness of God, to where fear could not find a landing place but faith would be the landing place."

"Faith conquers all fear. For I would say, in whom do you believe? Don't make Me small. Understand the King of the universe came to serve, to set free, to save and to heal, and to bring the good news that the kingdom of God is not only around you but is within you. Let My kingdom come forth."

"But I also made a command to you to seek first My Kingdom, and then everything will be added unto you. Seek it."

"And even the word seek starts out with see, and then it ends with a k for kingdom. So, see My kingdom; seek My kingdom; become kingdom-minded saints."

Another Kingdom - Another Spirit

"Continue to pray My kingdom come. Continue to pray My will be done. For, yes, I brought My kingdom to earth - for you are of another kingdom as well as of another Spirit."

"Let My Spirit lift you up from glory to glory. Then you can look down and come to understand who you were called to be. For I am looking for a hungry people, a trustworthy people, overseers in My kingdom, overseers in My vineyard. Whether they have pain or whether they have strength; whether they have fame or whether they be hidden-it makes no difference. I look at the hearts of My own."

"For I say seek first the kingdom of God. Let My righteousness do rightness all around you. For understand, when those come to oppose you, lift up My right hand, My Word, against that. For My left hand will sustain you, and My right hand will give you the direction of counsel by My Spirit."

"For I am raising up a people who are hungry to seek My kingdom, hungry to taste of the kingdom, and hungry to rule in the kingdom. Understand and meditate; dwell upon My Word."

Kingdom People

"Seek My face, for when you seek Me with your whole heart-absolutely, positively, unconditionally - you will find Me. For you must realize I present Myself to you, for My kingdom is among you, and My kingdom is within you. Change citizenships. Think of My kingdom. Understand as My kingdom people."

"Demand the rights of My kingdom, but be humble enough to understand you serve a King - the King of kings - who came and walked among His own as a carpenter."

"I worked in the trade of the object I would die upon. Do you not realize how many times I touched the wood? How many times I understood what nails would do? How many times I heard the sound of pounding? And then, as I hung on the cross, once again My identity on earth was meshed with the kingdom of God."

"Strive to become citizens of My kingdom, knowing My knowledge, knowing the authority I have given you in My name. Use it with My Spirit, for He will not leave you alone, but He will direct, lead, counsel and anoint you. For I have called you to do the works of My kingdom," says the Lord your God."
