INTRODUCTION

Walking in the Spirit is needed for the feeble, the fearful, those lacking vision or direction. Most certainly they are needed for those who want to be courageous, victorious, and actually accomplishing something with their life.

Living in today’s world, where every foundation that can be shaken is being shaken, as believers, we need the gifts and the fruit of the Holy Spirit in our life. Without them, we too will perish and fall along the way.

Through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, the Lord’s spiritual gifts can be imparted to us. Through the daily work of the Holy Spirit, His fruit can grow within us.

“There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.” 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, NKJV

Gal 5:22-24
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-24, NASU

Whether you have started walking with the Holy Spirit just recently, or have for several decades, as I have, we need a daily refreshing and recharging that the Lord provides for us, through the action of His Holy Spirit, working in and through us.

As you read these life stories, inspiring lessons, and hope-filled messages of love and faith that I share with you, may your walk in the Spirit grow and flourish to be an overcomer in the world.
As you read these life stories, inspiring lessons, and hope-filled messages of love and faith that I share with you, may your walk in the Spirit grow and flourish to be an overcomer in the world.

DEDICATION

To all those who desire to know the Holy Spirit, by learning of His ways, growing in the fruit of the Holy Spirit, and experiencing His gifts that enable us to be overcomers and light in a dark world – to these I dedicate this book.

I pray that you will be encouraged in your walk, and faithful to the call on your life that our Lord Jesus has given for you to do.
We need each other. We need His fruit. We need His gifts. May each one in the Body of Christ know their part and fill it.

Commitment - To Do or Not To Do - Steve Martin Published Aug. 18, 2019

Commitment - To Do or Not To Do
Steve Martin

Published Aug. 18, 2019

Paperback: $14.95

A few months ago I sensed the Lord wanted me to write a book on being committed, day in and day out. Not just about some fad that comes and goes, as they do each decade, or even monthly, but of the eternal perspective He has, and gives to us.

People need something to stand on, that doesn’t shift with every wind and movement that comes along. They need solid ground, especially when their world begins to shake. There is no other on which to stand, on which to build one’s life, than on the Word of God, the Torah, the Bible. The very one Who has created everything certainly knows what is needed for each of us to achieve fulfillment, purpose, and the destiny He has given in His ultimate realm of salvation, redemption, and life with Him, for us and the nations.

When the Holy Spirit gave me the thought to search for all the messages I had thus far written, now going beyond 470 in these last 9 years, that had the word “commit” or “commitment” in them, I was amazed when over 70 appeared on the list. Being an accountant by trade, that is 15%. Not an insignificant number. Thus those compiled messages in this book will reveal at least one thing – that our Lord is faithful and committed, and as we choose to follow Him, we too will be as He is.

Choose this day to seek Him, know Him, and be committed above all to Him. Then you too will discover that His Word is the final word.

Aug. 6, 2019

All of us need more courage. We are called by God to be on a specific mission, to carry out His command to take the Gospel to all the nations. Some will do it while communicating in friendship among their neighbors. Others will be a light in the work office, being there to speak hope and encouragement to the other staff members who may be struggling to make ends meet or who need a word of truth and love in helping the difficult child at home.

Still, others will hear the call to join a mission organization, or travel through contacts in their church congregation, to bring the light of the Gospel to the distant land.

But more likely our need for courage proves itself most in the ongoing struggle we face daily as we stand strong against the winds of change, the forces arrayed against believers, who are committed to adhering yet to the principles and foundational stones found in the eternal Word of God. Even as the Bible itself is mocked, lied about, and spoken as irrelevant to this day and age, we who have been taught the truth must be the ones to stand strong upon it.

DEDICATION

I dedicate this book to the next generation of those who have believed on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation and have been shown mercy and grace.

My heart and prayer are for our sons and daughters to have a life-changing experience of who the Lord is, who He wants them to be, and what they can do to impact this world with the spiritual gifts and calling that rests on them.

The world is awaiting how they will impact it with the truth of the Gospel. If ever we needed them, it is now.

INTRODUCTION

Be encouraged in your daily walk with God, for when it is all said and done, our God wins!

God the Father, Jesus Christ His Son, and God the Holy Spirit – the Three in One – rule from their heavenly throne. Together they are daily involved in the lives of men, women, and children in all the nations. The establishment of their kingdom here on earth is taking place. And one day Jesus, Yeshua HaMashiach, will set up His earthly throne in Jerusalem, Israel, the place where He left from in 33 AD, promising to return to that same place.

Knowing the last chapter recorded at the end of the Book, the Word of God, the Bible, as revealed to John the Apostle, we know that from the beginning in Genesis, to that ending chapter in Revelation, the Lord has been preparing His people and bringing about His plans and purposes.

Both believing Jews and Gentiles are seeing His work and getting involved.

These messages are to encourage you, including among them I trust, in your walk with the Living God of Israel.

Entitlement & Commitment - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Entitlement & Commitment
Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies. Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread.” (2 Thessalonians 3:10-12, NKJV)

Seems like a harsh word from Paul, right? Don’t work. Don’t eat. Sounds like simple truth to me.

Being raised in the 60’s and 70’s, I watched my Dad and Mom work hard. Very hard. Dad had two jobs – one from 6 am to 4 pm at Viking Pump Iron Factory in Cedar Falls, Iowa as the maintenance man. I clearly remember riding my bike on a regular basis to take him his lunch bucket and water Thermostat during the hot summer months.

Once home from that grueling job in the dirty foundry making water pumps, he took about a half hour break, then left again until about 9 pm or so, to maintain his entrepreneur job which he started, named Martin Electrical Service. He had learned along the way how to do electrical work, which added to the household income, laboring an additional 20 hours or more per week, re-wiring residential houses, churches, and installing yard lights. (We have one in our front yard to this day, 24 years now in this house, which he put in!)

As a teenager in high school, I was expected and did, assist him. Crawling in attics to run wire, with the insulation itching my skin, wasn’t a very pleasant task. But I was small, it taught me the fruit of labor, and I learned something of hard work with its rewards. And I appreciated the cold Coke and Snickers bar he often bought me!

Dad was a quiet man. He didn’t say “I love you” daily. Only a few times in my lifetime. His actions proved that he did. Loud and clear.

And Mom – raising us eight kids – well, you can only imagine. Five daughters and three sons. Many today find it difficult (or even inconvenient to their desired lifestyle) to raise one or two. Commitment to the eight of us took a life laid down - a tremendous amount of time and effort. Not much time for much of anything else I am sure. But Mom did it. Morning prayer and Bible reading had become her solid foundation on which to stand through the full day.

Today, though scattered around the USA, we all bless the Lord for our parents who raised us right. Blood, sweat, and tears certainly along the way. But they did it. And I for one honor them for that, to this day.

Louis and Lila Martin family - 1968. Cedar Falls, Iowa. Then only 7.

Then 8. 1973 family photo.

As you observe our society in our current time, one has to realize that the government in place is there to protect, defend, and provide for the safety of its citizens. And yet so many consider the government to be the savior of their life, their ultimate provider, the “high and mighty” who is supposed to be there to provide their food stamps, pay their education from kindergarten through college, send a weekly check for “lack of labor opportunities”, and what not.

We are required to help the poor, not the lazy and unwilling.

Expectations of government provision, coupled with the entitlement mentality, have so infiltrated our citizenship, and those who abide as such, that the benefits of hard work have been dramatically eroded in the lives of many. Rather than experiencing that which gives a good sense of accomplishment has been reduced to “hand me out” expectations from others, rather than providing for one’s family themselves. You didn’t see many fathers and mothers in my generation expect the government to do everything for them. They relied on God and did what was expected of them.

Didn’t one Democratic President once say, “Ask not what your country can do for you…” I guess that was too many decades ago to still hold true for today. Obviously, some think that. (In case you don't know history as you should, it was President John F. Kennedy. He called on people to do what is right. That same current political party seems to do what gets them more votes, rather than what is for the good of the country and those who actually work.)

I hope we as parents teach our children to be hard-working citizens, using the gifts and talents that our Lord has given to them. One main purpose He has given us these abilities is in order to bless others with our gifts, not ourselves. Blessing others is Gospel truth. You reap what you sow. Giving out brings the receiving in.

For the Bible says, the eternal standard that will NEVER pass away...work hard. Share much. Reap the reward.

“But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:6-9, NKJV)

No entitlements should be expected. Commitment gets the job done.

He Who gives freely knows what we do with what we have been given. Bottom line (as good accountants always say), we each will stand before the Lord and King one day, giving an account for what we have done with what we have been given. I trust you will receive a good commendation from Him. And then a great mansion to abide in! That is my expectation.

Shalom and ahava (peace and love in Hebrew).

Commitment - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Commitment

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“Once the commitment is clear, you do what you can, not what you can't. The heart regulates the hands.” (2 Corinthians 8:12-13, THE MESSAGE)

Normally you don’t celebrate your 40th marriage anniversary of covenant love by writing a blog post to speak of commitment. You save that for later as you speak words of cherished days, happy memories, and the faithfulness of the Lord Jesus for your good wife or husband, as the case may appropriately be. That is right and great to do!

But I want to take this very special occasion, on my good wife Laurie and my 40th wedding anniversary this October 8, 2017, to write on that very appropriate word for such a time as this – commitment.

I believe the Lord uses people as examples. His heart is to show His committed love, grace, mercy, faithfulness, long-suffering (!) and so much more through His people. He above all is the perfect example that we must follow after, and demonstrates that through His creation!

In these days of the “anything goes” attitude, which has now become so prevalent in our American culture, and elsewhere around the world, which people have so gravely mistaken to believe, and which will prove to their own hurt - that giving one’s word and standing on it; holding fast to something that will cost you to stick to it; and living a life laid down for others and not just for yourself - are “old school” and can be cast aside.

“That was for then. This is now. We must live in an enlightened era of freedom with no restraints.” Or so many would proclaim and take to the streets to demonstrate.

Well I am here to say, “Not true!”

Without giving multitudes and multitudes of Scripture, which have stood the onslaught of lies, destruction, slashing of teeth over and utter falsehoods spoken by the proud ignorant and vastly deceived, I want to once again proclaim the eternal truths that need to be spoken loud and clear.

1.      Marriage is between a man and a woman. You can’t produce the next generation naturally any other way. That should be obvious to anyone and all.

      2.      Sex is for the committed marriage bed. Anything outside of committed love will bring sickness and the clear results that sin produces.

      3.      When you stand at the altar of marriage, you eliminate the “D” word from your vocabulary. I spoke to my good wife 40 years ago within that week of our commitment to each other that divorce would never be an option. By the Lord’s grace and mercy we have fulfilled that promised word to each other.

4.      It takes a real man and a real woman to make a promise to one another and then stick to it, come heaven or hell. A promise is to be a promise, not a “we shall see whatever will be will be” watered down attitude; nor just as “long as were are in love.”

5.      If you commit to do something, do it. If you give your word, then keep your word.

6.      The weather isn’t always to your best liking. Neither are you to one another moment of the day. But tomorrow will still come, so get through it and make it work.

7.      I am not perfect. You are not perfect. But the Lord is, and He will prove Himself faithful to keep us together for His plans and purposes to be fulfilled in our lives. He is the reason He created you and I.
For His good pleasure, and to share it with us and all who believe.

8.      Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. Put them on anything or anyone else and you will sink. That is Gospel truth.

I could give a hundred more, but eight reasons for holding solid onto commitment is a good number to finish with. After all, 5 x 8 = 40, which by the Lord’s numbers means much “grace” (5) and “new beginnings” (8) to get to 40, which is “tried and true”. He has tried us, and He has proven Himself TRUE!

Shalom and ahava (peace and love in Hebrew).
