Is the Feast of Trumpets Being Fulfilled In Our Day? - Brian Hennessy ISRAEL TODAY

Is the Feast of Trumpets Being Fulfilled In Our Day?

Thursday, March 09, 2017 |  Brian Hennessy  ISRAEL TODAY
As most Christian lovers of Israel now realize, the three major feasts or holy convocations God gave to Israel all pointed to a New Covenant fulfillment in Messiah. The Hebrew word for “convocation,” mikra, implies a “dress rehearsal.”
They were preparations for a deeper spiritual reality.
Although grouped into three convocations, there were actually seven feasts in number, requiring all Israel to be present in Jerusalem at the time of their celebration. They are Pesach (Passover, Leavened Bread, First Fruits), Shavout (Pentecost) and Succoth (Trumpets, Day of Atonement, Tabernacles). Those clustered around Passover and Pentecost are known as the Spring Feasts. Those connected to Tabernacles were the Fall Feasts. Taken together, all seven represent the salvation plan of God in Messiah.
Now we know the Spring Feasts have already had their New Covenant fulfillment.
Passover was fulfilled in Jerusalem when Yeshua was crucified for our sins on the very day the feast was celebrated. And his followers were born again. Pentecost too was fulfilled on the very date, the seventh Sunday after First Fruits, when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the early church.
But Tabernacles still awaits its spiritual fulfillment, which will no doubt also occur in its assigned season. And also take place in Jerusalem.
The question is, could we have actually witnessed the fulfillment of the first of the three fall feasts associated with Tabernacles, namely Trumpets, without realizing it?
I believe so.
It dawned on me recently that when Israel won the Six-Day War and recaptured Jerusalem and the Temple Mount on June, 7 1967 had to be the fulfillment of Trumpets on God’s calendar.
Here’s why.
When the Jews regained control of Jerusalem after 2000 years of exile it was like the blast of a shofar (trumpet) that sent a shockwave that resonated throughout Israel and around the world. Aside from the pure emotional excitement of the event, four major spiritual awakenings trace their beginnings to that day. All were in keeping with God’s assigned purposes for the blowing of trumpets, which were to announce special times, gather His people together, break camp or go to war.
The first awakening took place among assimilated Jews in Russia who suddenly rediscovered their Jewish heritage and wanted to go home to Israel. When Russia refused to let them go they were termed Refuseniks. Their courage in face of great persecution eventually won them international support and permission to emigrate.
A second awakening also occurred among the Jews, primarily in the West, when suddenly thousands began to believe in Yeshua as Messiah. That was the start of the Messianic Jewish Movement.
The third awakening erupted in the Christian world. After seeing the miraculous way Israel recaptured Jerusalem, tens of thousands of Christians suddenly realized God was fulfilling the ancient prophecies of Israel’s restoration. This led many to rediscover the Hebraic roots of our faith, inspiring the Christian Zionism Movement that has done so much to bless Israel as of late.
The fourth big awakening also took place among Christians and became known as the Charismatic Movement. Nominal Christians from the dead mainline churches were born again and began to move in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
If I am correct in this, it means we are on the verge of seeing the fulfillment of the next holy convocation, which is the Day of Atonement. Called Yom Kippur by the Jews, it is the holiest day on their religious calendar and occurs ten days after Trumpets. Historically on that day the high priest entered the Holy of Holies to make atonement for the whole nation. Also, every fiftieth year on that date the trumpet was blown to announce the Year of Jubilee “when you shall proclaim a release [from all debts]… and each of you shall return to his own property” (Leviticus 25:10). It is the verse inscribed on the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia celebrating the 50th anniversary of the city’s founding.
It really gets exciting when we realize Jun. 7th of this year will be the fiftieth anniversary of the recapture of Jerusalem! Could that mean the Ten Days of Awe following Trumpets are over and God’s Yom Kippur could begin to be fulfilled this very year? Could we actually be on the verge of seeing Zechariah 12:10–14 come to pass in our day?
And one more thing. Could the election of Donald Trump(et) signal the final shofar sound of this feast day ? And if so, will he become the new King Cyrus who many Christians are likening him too? The one who released the Jews from Babylon and helped them restore their temple? Or will he prove to be the new Constantine, “that horn which had eyes and a mouth uttering great boasts… who was waging war with the saints and overpowering them?” (Dan. 7:20,21) Will he be the Great Deceiver “who’ll take his seat in the temple displaying himself as being God” (2 Thess.2:4)?
Stay tuned.

Passover: God Will Not Abandon His People

Passover: God Will Not Abandon His People

JERUSALEM, Israel -- In just a few days, Jews in Israel and around the world will gather with family and friends to retell the story of their deliverance from slavery. As they observe Pesach (Passover) and the Feast of Unleavened Bread, many will turn their hearts toward God.

While everyone celebrates, Israelis soldiers will guard the northern and southern borders. In the north, Lebanon and Syria transfer weaponry across their borders, as Hezbollah fights alongside Bashar Assad's troops. In the south, the Hamas terror group openly speaks of Israel's destruction.

Meanwhile in Switzerland, the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, the P5+1, are about to give Iran the green light toward nuclear weapons and regional dominance, though they're not explicitly saying it. Iran reportedly has not backed down from any of its "red lines," including all the components of uranium enrichment.

And in the Gaza Strip and Palestinian Authority-controlled cities in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank), leaders of the P.A.'s "unity" government praise acts of "resistance" against the Israeli "occupiers."

Instead of sitting down with Israel to come up with a workable solution, P.A. leaders travel around the world convincing others Israelis are the problem. And they've been pretty effective in Europe and other parts of the world.

The P.A. wants the international community to force Israel back to the 1948 armistice lines, once called "Auschwitz borders." It also involves uprooting more than 350,000 Israelis from their homes and communities.

In 2005, under then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, the government bulldozed 21 thriving communities in the Gush Katif Settlement Bloc and four in northern Samaria, uprooting some 10,000 people. Instead of moving the peace process forward, Israelis were bombarded with thousands of rockets.

The story of how God brought the Israelites out of Egypt to the Promised Land is one of miracles, obedience, and blessing. At the center of everything is God's desire that people know who He is.

Not long after the multitude walked out of Egypt, they heard the rumble of Egyptian chariots. They felt the ground shaking. After a long trek on very little sleep, they came to a seemingly insurmountable barrier: the sea. They despaired, some crying out they would have been better off serving the Egyptians alive.

But God had a different plan and Moses knew He hadn't brought them this far to abandon them.

That message is as relevant today as ever. As the world spins rapidly out of control, God hasn't changed one whit.

That's why Moses instructs the people to teach their children what took place then and to observe Pesach from generation to generation.

"And you shall tell your son in that day, saying, 'This is done because of what the Lord did for me when I came up from Egypt.' It shall be as a sign to you on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the Lord's law may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand the Lord has brought you out of Egypt. You shall therefore keep this ordinance in its season from year to year." (Ex. 13:8-10)

With today's challenges no less daunting, the recounting of the exodus can help people remember that God has not and will not abandon them either.

"Oh L-rd fill my heart for I long for Your presence night and day."

The words above sound like those of a worship song, right? Well, this is a song that an Orthodox Jewish man played in a pub in Tsfat (Safed) Israel!  Can you hear the longing he has to know G-d intimately?  This desire is increasing more and more each day among Israelis, both secular and religious.

I had the opportunity to participate in an open stage night in Tsfat with two of my daughters.  Since I hadn't registered previously they only had space for me to sing one song.  Before I began to sing I said, "Oh, how I love to sing from the Psalms". After the song the audience, comprised of many Orthodox Jews, exclaimed, "More, More!"  Wow, what a hunger and what a privilege to minister to my people!
Sha'arei Tsion (The Gates of Zion)
Sha'arei Tsion (The Gates of Zion)

After I finished singing, three men approached me to see if I could sing on their new CD's!  Two of them have already called me and I shared with them about Messiah. One was Orthodox and after I told him I believe in Yeshua he had one question: "What holidays do you celebrate?"  After I told him Pesach, Sukkot, Shabbat, etc, he asked what I celebrate in December.  I said, "Chanukah, because Yeshua is the light of the world!"  His response was,  "Well, you're still Jewish."
Let me explain.  Recently a dear Israeli friend was recording a worship CD and while in the studio of an Orthodox Jew, she and her husband explained that they are believers in Messiah Yeshua.  The Orthodox man replied, "I don't have a problem with the Jewish Yeshua, but I have a problem with the Christian Yeshua."
How we wish that the history of the Church and the Jewish people wasn't so tragic. But G-d used the blindness of the Jewish people to our Messiah to spread the Gospel throughout the world.  So the nations were introduced to the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  And now after 2000 years, G-d is removing this blindness that we've had and fulfilling His promises to restore Israel.  "A partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in." Romans 11:25

Praise the L-rd for His faithfulness to keep His promises and for pouring out wisdom and favor upon His sheep and dreams and visions upon His prodigals!

"For I do not want you to be uninformed of this mystery so that you will not be wise in your own estimation - that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; so all Israel will be saved, just as it is written, 'The deliverer will come from Zion; He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.  This is My covenant with them when I take away their sins.'"  Romans 11:25-27

Booklet testimony:
"I had bought just one copy thinking that it would be interesting reading but found it had a very powerful message that had to be shared.  I gave my copy to my son, who after reading it, passed it around to his fellow workers.  One young man from a Lutheran background never knew that Jesus was a Jew."

"Then a friend gave me another copy to send to my grandson. He had accepted Yeshua as a young boy but many disappointments in his life led him to believe that there was no G-d.  After reading the booklet he decided there is definitely a G-d and now his heart is once again open to the Gospel!  So now I'm passing around your booklets to friends and praying that their hearts will also be open to the Holy Spirit."

The booklets are available via our website and make a wonderful gift for your Jewish friends and family!

Would you like to live in a house with an Israeli-Moroccan Jewish family (believers) and learn Hebrew?  Small swimming pool, three meals daily (the wife is a fantastic cook!) and laundry provided.  It's only $120 per day per person or $200 for a couple.  This is less than what you'd pay for a hotel room alone!  Come for a week or two and see your Hebrew soar.  Contact us for more details.   תודה רבה
VERY GOOD NEWS!

Christians Rediscovering Passover - DAVID PARSONS/FOR JNS.ORG

Christians and Jews
More and more, Christians are embracing their Jewish heritage. (Facebook)

Christians Rediscovering Passover

For Jews and Christians, the Passover season is a special time for reflection on the rich spiritual truths contained within this remarkable holiday. Indeed, we can all observe the command to remember the incredible Israelite deliverance from bondage in Egypt.

For Christians, the events of a momentous Passover some 15 centuries later have given added meaning to this holiday, so that the truths of the first are reinforced in the latter. Deliverance from Pharaoh’s taskmasters became freedom from slavery to sin. The blood of a lamb on the doorposts became a typology of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.

Yet the parallels between Pesach and Easter were lost for centuries to most Christians when the early church fathers deliberately severed our faith from its Jewish roots. In time, this hostility to Judaism produced vicious blood libels against Jews at Passover.

Today, however, multitudes of Christians are rediscovering our Hebraic roots. Indeed,Time magazine recently identified growing Christian interest in our faith’s Jewish heritage as one of the 10 top trends of our day.

Even respected Jewish scholars have started joining Christian theologians in rediscovering the “Jewishness” of Jesus and the Hebraic origins of Christianity. One notable expert in this regard is the late Prof. David Flusser of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, considered the leading Orthodox Jewish expert on the Second Temple era and Early Christianity.

Flusser placed Jesus within the Pharasaic tradition and viewed Him as among the great sages of his time, such as Hillel and Ben-Shammai. But Flusser concluded that the Galilean preacher went boldly beyond the classic Judaism of that day, for instance by proclaiming the advent of the kingdom of God and espousing a radical ethic of loving one’s enemy.

As a result of such groundbreaking scholarship, the Feast of Passover is one occasion when the lineage and cultural identity of Jesus as a “son of the covenant” now holds so much more meaning for Christians. In fact, nothing reattaches Christians to their Jewish roots faster than realizing the Last Supper was actually a Passover seder meal being led by a Jewish rabbi.

Thus, we can now see in the Gospel narratives just how closely Jesus held to Jewish traditions in presiding over the Passover meal with His disciples—or rather, His talmidim.

For instance, He followed the custom then developing in first-century Judaism of serving four cups of wine at the Passover meal to mirror the four great “I wills” of Exodus 6:6-7. When Jesus took the third cup—considered the “cup of redemption”—He used it to seal a new covenant with His followers.
Interestingly, He also used customary Jewish words of betrothal at that same moment, promising to go build them all mansions in His Father’s house and to come back for them one day as a bridegroom for His bride (John 14:2-3).

In serving them wine and unleavened bread, Jesus further played off the command to remember the Passover by instructing His disciples to always partake of it “in remembrance of [Him].”

Then one of the most extraordinary moments of the Last Supper came when He washed the feet of His disciples.

Like other great rabbis of His day, Jesus had developed a unique preaching style by telling parables, many of which are universally known to this day, such as the parables of the good Samaritan and the prodigal son. But He was different in the way He also practiced what He preached. In washing the feet of His disciples, the rabbi Jesus taught by deed and not just words what it means to be a servant in His kingdom (John 13:14-15).

And finally, Jesus demonstrated tremendous grace that evening when He gave the place of the guest of honor to His immediate left to Judas, even though He knew this was the one about to betray Him. What a difference it would have made down through history if Christians had understood that Jesus was never bitter toward Judas.

Sadly, it is too late to change that history. But we are witnessing a sea change in Christian attitudes towards the Jewish people today as we understand better the Jewish matrix of our faith. This historic shift is helping to build Christian support for an embattled Israel at a critical hour. And just as importantly, it is shielding multitudes of Christians against modern-day blood libels and other anti-Semitic lies now being hurled at the Jewish state.
