IDF Releases Video of Aerial Assault on Syrian Forces - Israel Today Staff

IDF Releases Video of Aerial Assault on Syrian Forces

Sunday, June 25, 2017 |  Israel Today Staff
Israel on Saturday responded harshly to errant Syrian army fire that hit the Israeli side of the Golan Heights.
The above footage shows Israeli military aircraft targeting a number of Syrian positions, including at least two tanks.
Syrian sources said that two people were killed in the strikes.
It appears that Islamist rebels in the area took advantage of the Israeli strikes to launch their own attack on the Syrian military. Damascus accused Israel of colluding with the jihadists.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the retaliation sent a clear message: "We are not willing to accept any spillover or leakage of fire from any front. We will respond with force to any fire on our territory."

Israel Prepares for Major Earthquake - Israel Today

Israel Prepares for Major Earthquake

Monday, June 12, 2017 |  Israel Today Staff
At Sunday's cabinet meeting in Jerusalem, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held an urgent discussion on home front preparations for a major earthquake that is expected to hit Israel in the coming years.
The discussion kicked off a nationwide emergency drill involving rescue forces from the army, police and medical organizations.
"As part of our efforts and actions to improve home front emergency preparedness, we are beginning today a national earthquake exercise, called 'Earthquake 2017,'" said Netanyahu. "There are enough earthquakes around us in all senses of the word, but we live adjacent to the Syrian-African rift, and an earthquake can hit at any moment. They already have and they undoubtedly will."
Should an earthquake hit, the prime minister reminded the public that the emergency procedures are quite opposite to those during a missile or terrorist attack.
"In the case of an earthquake, in contrast to other scenarios which threaten the home front, the basic rule is to get out of your homes, get out of buildings. The safest place to be is in open space."

Trump deletes Abbas tweet after Palestinian leader lies to him - Israel Today

Trump deletes Abbas tweet after Palestinian leader lies to him

Wednesday, May 10, 2017 |  Israel Today Staff
Shortly after meeting with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas last week, US President Donald Trump took to Twitter to say what an "honor" it had been to host the head of the PLO.
The post was retweeted thousands of times.
But hours later, Trump deleted it, giving rise to speculation that the American was angered by Abbas' bald-faced lies.
"Mr. President, I affirm to you that we are raising our youth, our children, our grandchildren on a culture of peace," Abbas claimed, as he and Trump tried to sleuth out what's holding up Mideast peace.
Abbas continued: "And we are endeavoring to bring about security, freedom and peace for our children to live like the other children in the world, along with the Israeli children in peace, freedom and security."
Many, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, fired back, noting that Abbas' Palestinian Authority uses the massive amounts of foreign aid it receives to provide large stipends to Palestinian terrorists arrested by Israel.
It also routinely names Palestinian schools, parks and summer camps after the most blood-soaked terrorists - those who have managed to kill the most Jews.
Netanyahu did not even get into what Palestinian children are taught in local schools, where teachers and textbooks refer to Jews as sub-human, blood-thirsty monsters. And the incitement is even worse on after-school programming on Palestinian Authority-controlled television.

Poll: Overwhelming Majority of Israelis Want Right-Wing Gov't - Israel Today

Poll: Overwhelming Majority of Israelis Want Right-Wing Gov't

Poll: Overwhelming Majority of Israelis Want Right-Wing Gov't - Israel Today
Thursday, April 06, 2017 |  Israel Today Staff
There’s growing talk of early elections in Israel (not that that’s anything new), but yet another poll shows that all that’d be accomplished would be to further solidify Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s mandate to govern.
According to the monthly Peace Index conducted by the Israel Democracy Institute, an overwhelming 70 percent majority of Israelis want a right-wing, conservative government.
A mere 24 percent want a left-wing government.
And while Netanyahu’s Likud wouldn’t necessarily emerge with a clear majority of its own, there is little, if any, doubt that it would remain the strongest of the right-wing parties.
And that means Netanyahu would would almost certainly remain prime minister.

Anti-Missile Defense Shield - Israel Today

Israel Completes Multi-Tier Anti-Missile Defense Shield

Monday, April 03, 2017 |  Israel Today Staff
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attended the ceremony marking the operational integration of the David's Sling air defense system on Sunday at the Hatzor Air Force Base in southern Israel.
The three tiers of Israel's anti-missile defense technology now comprises of Iron Dome, which covers short range rockets and missiles (up to 70km range), David's Sling the medium range system (70 – 300km range), and the Arrow III exoatmospheric anti-ballistic missile system.
David's Sling was developed over the last 10 years by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems in cooperation with the IDF, as an answer to medium range kamikazi drones, rockets and missile fire. Unlike Iron Dome, which is stationary and defends specific areas of Israel, David's Sling is portable, providing national coverage.

Trump Effectively Puts Israel Back in the Driver's Seat - Israel Today

Trump Effectively Puts Israel Back in the Driver's Seat

Thursday, February 16, 2017 |  Israel Today Staff
To say that Israelis were glued to their televisions as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stood side-by-side with US President Donald Trump to address the media would be a major understatement.
For most Israelis, this first meeting between the two leaders since Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States was enormously fateful.
And most Israelis were beyond pleased with the outcome, and the drastic improvement over relations during the Obama Administration.
What most took away from the press conference was that Trump had effectively put Israel back in the driver’s seat when it comes to making peace in the Middle East.
No more will Washington dictate to the Jewish state and impose detrimental “solutions” that ultimately only serve American interests.
Unlike Obama, Trump recognizes Israel’s sovereignty and is prepared to deal with Netanyahu as an equal, not an underling.
We’ll be taking a little more in-depth look at this critical meeting and the Israeli response to it in the upcoming issue of Israel Today Magazine, scheduled to go to print next week.
