Numbers. They Do Count. Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Numbers.
They Do Count.

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“Shim‘on Kefa went up and dragged the net ashore. It was full of fish, 153 of them; but even with so many, the net wasn’t torn.” (John 21:11-12 Complete Jewish Bible)

Have you ever wondered why Scripture says there were 153 fish caught in the net? Why not just use an estimate, such as 150, or even 200, to “evangelistically speak” as some would? Why did the Holy Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh) even have the Apostle John record any number, and not just write that Peter “had a lot of fish”?

I often consider these things. Why does the Lord so often use specific numbers when He describes historical facts? He even says He knows the number of hairs on our heads. “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” (Matthew 10:30-31 NKJV)

Do you ever think as to why? Maybe it is just me and my thoughts.

Doing the job as an accountant for my daily work, I am always aware of numbers, and particularly the “bottom line” in the company’s monthly financial reports. Numbers give you a good picture of where you are at, health wise in a business or ministry. As they say, generally speaking, good numbers mean you are doing well, and the employees will get a paycheck come pay day. That’s good!

So why is the Lord Jesus, sitting on His heavenly throne today, caring so much about numbers, and makes sure we do also? I believe it is another reflection of His heart for us, to show us specifically that everything that happens to us in our daily life is fully known by Him. He does care. And He wants you to know that.

Yeshua (Jesus) cares if you only have $49.50 for the groceries needed for these next three days, when the store will tell you those items will cost $52.18. He cares if the $725 rent that is due in seven days is going to be there, and you only have $650 now, and the paycheck isn’t coming until the following Friday. Our Lord cares if your only transportation breaks down. Then the auto shop tells you it will be $824 to fix it. Your checking account says you have $328 and your credit card is almost maxed out. How is it going to get repaired?

Walking in faith is believing He cares for you, even in regards to the very number of hairs on your head, which by the way will need cutting soon, yet another $14.95 (cheap in many places in the USA) in three weeks.

When it looks like you are going to be lacking in what is needed, or when you are lacking in what is needed now, our Bible tells us, in very accurate and historical terms, that we can count on Him to be our Provider, to be Jehovah Jireh (the Lord provides) that He is.

Look back on your life today from where you were a few months ago, a few years, a few decades. Hasn’t He brought you thus far? You have made it, haven’t you? Give thanks to the Lord for that. I do every day.

Jesus didn’t promise us a rose garden. He did promise to lead us in the way we are to go, and by taking that road, His way, His promises are daily proven, and His faithfulness will always be known in our life.

Numbers do count, because we are counted as very important to Him. His love abounds beyond all that we can comprehend in this life.

In a short period of time, known by God the Father, these days are also numbered. Then we, who believe in Jesus the Messiah as our Savior, will be with Him for eternity in heaven. You and I can count on that!

Now think on this, in the love of Jesus,

LOVE FOR HIS PEOPLE FEATURED BOOK

Paperback $5.95 or less
Kindle $1,99

In 2010 the Lord God of Israel, my Savior Jesus Christ (Yeshua HaMashiach), led me to start the ministry we call Love For His People. Its primary purpose is to share the love of the Lord with the nation of Israel, Jews around the world, and the people in all the nations as we can. For that end, through social media, writing and distributing books, and in person ministry, we are seeing the love of Jesus spread.

We are grateful that He has given us much love in order to do just that. We often hear the word “love” spoken out loud, and written about, in many ways. It has contrasting meanings to the wide range of people that exist, as it is expressed in different methods through people. When it has all been said and done, there is an eternal love that will stand the test of fire. Because the biblical expression of love, laying down one’s life for his friends, has eternal value, this love from God the Father to His creation is the type that I most seek after and try to share.

In these short chapters of Arms of Love, which is also the title of a song Laurie and I sang while leading various church worship meetings, and as the lead singers in our Ahava Love Band, I share some aspects of how I believe the Bible speaks of love. For you who are about to read this, my prayer is that your heart will be enlarged with His, and you too will become one, even more, to give love for His people, both Jew and Gentile, both saved and unsaved.

I hope that as you read these chapters, you will become more inspired to spend time with the Lord, experience His heart of love, and share it with our fellow man. The world needs to know the love of God.

Does the Jewish New Year 5776 Hold Special Meaning? - SANDRA TEPLINSKY/LIGHT OF ZION

Is there biblical significance in the numbers in this year's Jewish New Year?

Does the Jewish New Year 5776 Hold Special Meaning?

Standing With Israel

Rosh Hashana, the traditional Jewish New Year, fell on Sept. 14 this year and ushered in the year 5776. Although Rosh Hashana is known in the Bible as a day for blowing trumpets, by the time of Yeshua it was observed as the Jewish secular new year.
Could this year hold any special meaning for Christians, based on the unique numbers and letters associated with 5776?
As you probably know, some scholars believe the numbers comprising 5776 represent key themes of Scripture. The biblical concept differs from numerology, which uses numbers and symbols for purposes related to divination, soothsaying or manipulation.
Biblically, 5 could represent grace, 6 can represent humankind or the ways of man, and 7 can stand for completion. If that is true, and if God chooses to speak to us through our admittedly imperfect calendar system, 5776 could herald a watershed year in world history.
The number 5776 could represent a certain completion of grace as we've known it, coupled with a certain completion of following in man's (our) own ways. Now, to be sure, God is never not gracious! But His grace manifests in different ways at different seasons, for our ultimate good, to mature us to Messiah-likeness. Not always pleasant at the time, the complete intersection of grace with our own ways puts an end to (or completes) our ways. It transforms us to godliness in love, joy, peace, holiness and supernatural service. It draws sinners to Yeshua. It is actually a form of judgment.
There's more. In the Hebrew language, letters are assigned to numbers for various purposes. The letters assigned to the year 5776, "tav-shin-ayin-vav," spell a word used in modern Hebrew, meaning "heed." (The letters for the two 7's differ.)
Could the numbers and letters associated with 5776 confirm predictions or prophecies of impending global crisis? Perhaps. We will know in retrospect. Meanwhile, God does not want us unduly fascinated with signs or coincidences. Those are always intended to turn our focus and fascination upon Him.
At this season of tetrad blood moons, a completed Shemitah, and exponentially escalating sin, of this we can be sure: God is trumpeting a love call to give heed to Him and His ways. To those who respond, He will give grace to receive new grace. He will empower them to boldly withstand and shift some of the ways of the world in the year ahead.
Kingdom conflict will intensify, as the Scriptures say it must. But that's because the King Himself is coming. My prayer is that in 5776 He'll come powerfully through each of us. This year, may the shofar's trumpet draw you deeper into His kingdom goodness and glory!

“Less IS More.” - Ahava Love Letter (Steve Martin)

                                              “Less IS More.”

So Jesus said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?” Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. John 6:67,68 NAS)

Dear family of friends,

My good wife is right. But it has taken me awhile to admit it.

It used to be whenever she’d say, “Less is more,” it was irritating. How can something less be something more? Are you kidding me?

But now I am a changed man. Yes, I believe less is more, as in what the Lord intends to do with His people.

In my previous Ahava Love Letter, #98, I wrote on “How Shall We Then Give”, in regards to those we support with our financial gifts. The encouragement I gave in advising readers was to give your support to those whom you personally know; more so than giving to big ministries, with big budgets, whom you have little knowledge of where your money actually goes. This being because it is about relationships, not just giving money.

If we see Yeshua (Jesus) as our model for ministry, as we should, we know that He gathered twelve together, with whom He spent the majority of His three years teaching. There were certainly the big crowds on occasion, but that wasn’t His main effort. It was the small settings, the intimate moments, the relationships with the ones who would be faithful to go forward. This is a critical lesson for us. Indeed, less is more.

We all know that Sunday church attendance is way down, especially in America, the UK, and Europe. There are many reasons for this, but I am not so certain we have to be discouraged about it. Perhaps it was the “wrong model” and God the Father is showing us that. Allowing the large church buildings to fill less and less might just be pushing the committed Christians into closer relationships with those who are in it for the long haul. We are to form those connections that the Lord is really after.

Just as it happened to Yeshua Himself towards the end of His earthly ministry, the crowds dropped off considerably. We hate to see it happen, but He has always seemed to prefer using small numbers to accomplish His purposes, rather than large crowds. You really can’t have much fellowship with hundreds of people attending a two hour service, and then each go off in every other direction afterwards. But you can build solid relationships when you are in the trenches with your brother and sister, spending real time with them.

I envision that the days of "large" ministries, with large budgets, are going to be over soon. Especially in America, where too much emphasis has been placed on the "one man, large ministry" model. This will end.

One very real sense I have had from the Lord is that He is taking us down to smaller numbers, in smaller settings, to build teams of solid believers properly jointed together. Just as He did Himself in His ministry. Just as Paul and the other apostles did with their small teams in the first century. And they changed the world.

The Lord’s concentration and life flow will take place through the close knit, one to one relationships He is establishing. These relationships will be where ministry for each other occurs. The end result will be to touch the nations with effective spiritual activity, flowing out from us.

As for my wife and I, we are seeking to get rightly jointed with the local body we attend, and be part of a team that will touch the nations. We must be committed to His purposes and desires to have His Bride joined properly together. I hope you are doing the same.

Ahava to my family of friends,

Steve Martin

Bible Numerology
The Meaning of Numbers in the Bible

By Mary Fairchild, About.com Guide

Conservative scholars remain cautious about assigning too much importance to numbers in the Bible, as this has lead some groups to mystical and theological extremes, believing numbers can reveal the future, or uncover hidden information. This, of course, delves into the dangerous realm of divination.

Certain prophetic books of the Bible, such as Daniel and Revelation, introduce a complex, interrelated system of numerology which exhibits definite patterns. Given the elaborate nature of prophetic numerology, this study will deal only with the meaning of individual numbers in the Bible.

Meaning of Numbers in the BibleTraditionally, most Bible scholars agree that the following numbers possess some symbolic or literal significance.

One - Denotes absolute singleness.

Deuteronomy 6:4
"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one." (ESV)
Two - Symbolizes witness and support.

There were two great lights of creation (Genesis 1:16).
Two cherubim guarded the Ark of the Covenant (Exodus 25:22).
Two witnesses establish truth (Matthew 26:60).
The disciples were sent two by two (Luke 10:1).Ecclesiastes 4:9
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. (ESV)

Three - Signifies completion or perfection, and unity. Three is the number of Persons in the Trinity.

Many significant events in the Bible happened "on the third day" (Hosea 6:2).
Jonah spent three days and three nights in the belly of the fish (Matthew 12:40).
Jesus' earthly ministry lasted three years (Luke 13:7).John 2:19
Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." (ESV)

Four - Relates to the earth.

Earth has four seasons: winter, spring, summer, fall.
There are four primary directions: north, south, east, west.
Four earthly kingdoms (Daniel 7:3).
Parable with four types of soil (Matthew 13).Isaiah 11:12
He will raise a signal for the nations and will assemble the banished of Israel, and gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. (ESV)

Five - A number associated with grace.

Five Levitical offerings (Leviticus 1-5).
Jesus multiplied five loaves of barely to feed 5,000 (Matthew 14:17).Genesis 43:34
Portions were taken to them from Joseph's table, but Benjamin's portion was five times as much as any of theirs. And they drank and were merry with him. (ESV)

Six - The number of man.

Adam and Eve were created on the sixth day (Genesis 1:31).Numbers 35:6
"The cities that you give to the Levites shall be the six cities of refuge, where you shall permit the manslayer to flee ..." (ESV)

Seven - Refers to the number of God, divine perfection or completeness.

On the seventh day God rested after completing the creation (Genesis 2:2).
God's Word is pure, like silver purified seven times in the fire (Psalm 12:6).
Jesus taught Peter to forgive 70 times seven (Matthew 18:22).
Seven demons went out from Mary Magdalene, symbolizing total deliverance (Luke 8:2).Exodus 21:2
When you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years, and in the seventh he shall go out free, for nothing. (ESV)

Eight - May signify new beginnings, although many scholars don't attribute any symbolic meaning to this number.

Eight people survived the flood (Genesis 7:13, 23).
Circumcision took place on the eighth day (Genesis 17:12).John 20:26
Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you." (ESV)

Nine - May mean fullness of blessing, although many scholars don't assign any special meaning to this number either.

There are nine fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. (ESV)

Ten - Relates to human governments and law.

The Ten Commandments were the Tablets of the Law (Exodus 20:1-17, Deuteronomy 5:6-21).
Ten tribes made up the northern kingdom (1 Kings 11:31-35).Ruth 4:2
And he [Boaz] took ten men of the elders of the city [as judges] and said, "Sit down here." So they sat down. (ESV)

Twelve - Relates to divine government.

The 12 tribes of Israel (Revelation 7).
The 12 apostles (Matthew 10:2-4).Revelation 21:12-14
It [the New Jerusalem] had a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were inscribed—on the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. (ESV)

Thirty - A time associated with mourning and sorrow.

Aaron's death was mourned for 30 days (Numbers 20:29).
Moses' death was mourned for 30 days (Deuteronomy 34:8).Matthew 27:3-5
Then when Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, saying, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." They said, "What is that to us? See to it yourself." And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself. (ESV)

Forty - A number associated with testing and trials.

During the flood it rained 40 days (Genesis 7:4).
Israel wandered in the desert for 40 years (Numbers 14:33).
Jesus was in the wilderness 40 days before being tempted (Matthew 4:2).Exodus 24:18
Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain [Sinai]. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights. (ESV)

Fifty - Significance in feasts, celebrations, and ceremonies.

The Feast of Pentecost was celebrated on the fiftieth day after Passover (Leviticus 23:15-16).
50 days after Jesus Christ's resurrection the Holy Spirit filled believers on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2).Leviticus 25:10
And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you, when each of you shall return to his property and each of you shall return to his clan. (ESV)

Seventy - Possible association with judgment and human delegations.

70 elders were appointed by Moses (Numbers 11:16).
Israel spent 70 years in captivity in Babylon (Jeremiah 29:10).Ezekiel 8:11
And before them stood seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan standing among them. Each had his censer in his hand, and the smoke of the cloud of incense went up. (ESV)

666 - The number of the beast.

The number or mark of the beast is the sign of the Antichrist (Revelation 13:15-18).(Sources: Book of Bible Lists by H.L. Willmington, Tyndale Bible Dictionary.)

The significance of 100,000 in the bible:
'100000' is 1000 generations of 100 years. God said that He would show mercy to "a 1000 generations," (Exodus 20:5-6, Deuteronomy 7:9, 1Ch. 16:15, Ps. 105:8).

God said this first at Mount Sinai, which is the year He instituted the 'first of the months.' "This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you," (Exodus 12:2). Thus, the exodus (and Mount Sinai) is when the calendar can have its start. Note that "40 years" passed till they entered the promised land.

Thus, the first generation that died in the desert is also the first 40 years of the calendar cycle. Furthermore, the 49-year jubilees cycles commenced when they entered the land, (Lev. 25). It happens that 100000 years after the exodus would also therefore be a jubilee year! (100000 less 40 years, divided by 49 = 2040.)  Moreover, '50' is a full jubilee, and 100,000 is 50 x 50 generations of the ongoing 40-year cycles. (There are hundreds of biblical comparisons that could be made.

See www.360calendar.com for more.)
Also note that the 10 years (60 squared days) that completes the calendar age thus brackets the 100000 years fractionally, in even multiples of 10, just as in all the other cycles. Thus, each and every cycle of the calendar has a 'wind-up' effect: The initial 40 year cycle is preceded by 4 years; the 4000 cycle by 40 years; and the 100000 by 10 years!
