Need a Dad? - Lesson Taught. Lesson Learned. - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Need a Dad?
- Lesson Taught. Lesson Learned.

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“And He will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse." (Malachi 4:6, NKJV)

In prayer this morning the Lord reminded me of my dad, Louis James Martin, who graduated to his heavenly reward over 15 years ago at the age of 67, as a result of lymphoma cancer. I was giving thanks to my Father that my Dad had taught me practical things while growing up – like putting away the wrench tool after I used it, so it wouldn’t rust in the rain. You know – just practical, common sense things like that.

As I continued praying, I realized that many of the current generation we gave birth to don’t have a “real” Dad, or Mom, who were/are around to teach them even the basic, practical things in life. Sure, each of us had at least one parent in the beginning at the hospital, but not many then had a father or mother, who loved them enough to train them, encourage them, or show them how to live, after they left the place of their birth.

Few had a real mentor to teach them that they weren’t given life to just exist for themselves. But their life is to have life, a life with purpose, and understanding of the Creator’s plan, as they were created to be. Not only in the natural realm, but especially even more so in the spiritual one.

I mean – how many of this generation now in their teens, including even those hitting their 40’s, know what life is all about, other than playing video games for hours, standing in line for the latest hot movie a day before it opens, or getting drunk, taking drugs of all kinds, or having sex (with whomever), beginning in their middle school years?

Where are the fathers? Where are the mothers?

How far we have fallen.

The verse written just before Malachi 4:6, before the restoration of the fathers to their children, says it even more which is worth noting.

"Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse." (Malachi 4:5-6, NASU)

Our Father in heaven clearly states that He is going to do something about the mess our kids, and their kids, are in. God the Father says He is going to send Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. To do what? To restore the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers.

As for me, I think that day is now. Certainly we are approaching the great and terrible day of the Lord, in these last days. Thus so, I am looking, I am expecting, I am believing the Lord is going to keep this promise, His promise to His people.

Will each child have a father and mother to train them, to teach them, to instruct them in the ways of the Lord? I don’t think so, but I do believe that those who are longing for such a one in their life will certainly be given one – a “parent” who will care for them. Teach them right from wrong. Black and white. No gray stuff here.

And for those of us who know what to do, how to do it, and when to do it – live as we were created to live– we will be given these ones to do just that. Show them the way they are to go.

I am glad my Dad taught me the basics of life. That wrench that I would have left out in the grass, after adjusting the motor on my lawnmower, would have rusted after the first rain. And then I would have had to buy another one, using money I would have spent on a nice hamburger and French fries.

I am very grateful for that, but even more so, how he taught me, by example, how to live right.

Lesson taught. Lesson learned. We have to do the same for those who need it now.

My eyes are open. My heart is ready, as a father, to teach those who want to be taught.

My heart has been turned to my children, and those who need a dad.

So think on this, in the love of Jesus,

Steve Martin

LOVE FOR HIS PEOPLE FEATURED BOOK

Paperback $5.99
Kindle: $1.99

Throughout our lives, God keeps His hand on our shoulders and nudges us on to more than what we could ever realize. I am excited to share how He did it this with me, and am confident mine will be a story you’ll be able to relate to.

As I unveil my story, think back to those times when you knew there was some¬thing more but you just couldn’t put your finger on it. You knew deep down that life wasn’t what the TV sitcoms portrayed it to be. In our souls there is the hope, the cry for more, that someday questions will be answered and promises fulfilled if we just kept plugging away at what we know to do.

In The Promise I share my 40 year journey with you, and show you that dreams do come true. Though Peter Pan isn’t real, the Lord, the One Who created us, certainly is, and He has a plan in place for each one of us. When you are done reading this story, my prayer is that you too will know more of that good plan and His purpose for you.

Gifts - You Have One To Share - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Gifts - You Have One To Share
Now Think On This
by Steve Martin

“But we have gifts that differ and which are meant to be used according to the grace that has been given to us. If your gift is prophecy, use it to the extent of your trust; if it is serving, use it to serve; if you are a teacher, use your gift in teaching; if you are a counselor, use your gift to comfort and exhort; if you are someone who gives, do it simply and generously; if you are in a position of leadership, lead with diligence and zeal; if you are one who does acts of mercy, do them cheerfully.” Rom. 12:6-8 CJB

A package arrived via UPS the other day. I didn’t know what was in it. I wasn’t expecting anything, so when I saw it I thought, “Yes, a gift!” What a simple joyful moment it was.

We all like gifts – for our birthday, during the eight days of Hanukkah, at Christmas time (12 days is nice!), and especially the unexpected ones between St. Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day. Getting a gift shows someone has thought of us, cares for us, and wants to put a big smile on our face. Yes, I like that.

Our Lord Jesus Christ (Yeshua HaMashiach) delights in giving gifts. He has a purpose in doing it too. When He gives a gift, it usually comes at an ordained time in our life. He wants to impart in us His love for us, and to then further express through us His love for those we will be touching, because He Himself wants to touch them. With His hope, faith, encouragement and joy, He will through us.

What kind of gifts does the Lord give? The verses from Romans above lists a few – prophetic words spoken, serving, teaching, comforting and exhorting, giving, leading, having mercy for another. They are all action words. We are given gifts so we can share them with others. Always with the purpose to demonstrate His love for His people He has created.

The world talks about being happy. It would seem, according to all the images and words that hit us, that our goal in life is “to be happy”. Sure, being sad isn’t fun. But is “being happy” the real purpose of our existence? To live for our own fulfillment, pleasure, entertainment? Often it would appear that way.

But Jesus says that as we lay down our lives for others, using the gifts He has given us in serving them, that the true desires of our heart will come about, and JOY will result. Joy comes as we bless others, and seeing them experience the real life the Lord intends for each. Giving out gives back.

You have a spiritual gift. You probably have several. They may have been imparted to you at an early age, awaiting for the time when you would begin using them for the sake of others. As you get training in their functions and how they can best effectively operate through you, the joy you bring to others will have an eternal effect on them, and also in you.

If you don’t know what your gifts are, I can recommend several good books to you. And heh, maybe you will get one in the mail or UPS, as a surprise package. When it comes, open it up, give thanks, and let His Holy Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh) begin to use you to be a blessing to those He wants you to touch.

And speaking of touch, you’ll be surprised whom He will send you to, in order to share your gift. His heart will grow in yours as you do.

Now think on this,

Steve Martin

P.S. By the way, that UPS gift was a book from a friend. I like books. This one was extra special, coming from them.

Meaningful Questions about Curses and Deliverance from Evil Spirits

Meaningful Questions about
Curses and Deliverance
from Evil Spirits

Jim Croft

Questions from Vince

Jim,

I really enjoyed your book, Invisible Enemies: How to recognize and defeat demons. I have been working to get cleaned out. I have also been reading your articles and I am seeking to apply them to myself where needed.

I have some thoughts and questions. As you know, I come from a Vineyard background. This does not make me special, but I embraced the Vineyard’s history of openness to the things of God.

Anyway, I understand the need for forgiveness, repentance and renunciation of the curses listed in the Old Testament and any sowing and reaping effects.Jim, I notice that in the New Testament, there is no indication that the disciples or Jesus required anyone to ask for forgiveness before ministry of healing or deliverance.

Likewise, neither Christ nor the disciples asked anyone to renounce curses before healing. It appears the same pattern exists when they drove out evil spirits. Of course, I am seeking to apply these principals in your articles and book to my life. But I wonder what your thoughts are on these issues?

My Response

Vince – I’m very pleased about your observation of the absence of specific mention of repentance and renouncements in relation to demonic and curse issues in the New Testament and the Early Church. Miracles were performed without explanatory trimmings of that genre. Were you to exhaust yourself by reading all
of my articles, you would find that I’ve pointed out the truths that you have mentioned.

However, I have thoughts about the evolvement of the practices in question.Though the practices are not specifically addressed in “how to instruction” in the New Testament, they can be arrived upon by reasoning about the implications of the entirety of the Bible’s record.

There are many modern evangelistic techniques that we hold dear that are not explicit in the New Testament. Among them are found altar calls for salvation and leading people in prayers where they ask Jesus to come into their hearts to replace self in Lordship on the throne of their hearts. Nonetheless, millions have been born-again through those methods. It is much the same with the evolvement of how we function in the gifts of
words of knowledge, wisdom and discerning of spirits. We have come up with acceptable guesses about function and the Lord grants results.

Repenting of and renouncing sins resultant of curses and any accompanying demons had similar evolution that came from innuendo in both Testaments. We know of a certainty that Jesus, like John the Baptist, preached repentance and that the Lord’s disciples baptized the repentant. Therefore, it is safe to assume that inclination of repentance permeated the atmosphere of Jesus’ presence.

The existence of a particular habitual sin and demonic infestation within a person are evidence that either the Adamic curse or a self-induced curse is in effect. There is a vernacular way to define renouncement. It is verbal or physical indication that a person wants riddance of the curse of a sin and/or a demon.

People made physical indication that they wanted liberation from the aforementioned when they presented themselves to Jesus for healing from affliction. With all of that said I rarely bring up demonic and curse issues during first prayer encounters with people’s sicknesses and negative life situations. I simply pray with faith’s expectation and routinely see positive results.

Countless secular people and many nominal Christians are not familiar with the idea of evil spirit and curse affliction. If introduced prematurely, those concepts can derail attempts for effective ministry. With that in mind, I hesitate to venture more than subtle reference to evil spirits and innuendo about curses when ministering to them.

The phrasing could go something like this: “I command the aspect of John’s personality that compels him to be excessively confrontational to leave his psyche. (Speaking about demons) If John’s parental guardians exhibited habitual contentious interaction with others, I break ancestral influence in his life. (Pertains to curses)”

It is my conviction that the generic repentance and forgiveness of initial salvation dissolves many curses and puts most demonic entities to flight. I do not bring the possibility of demons and curses to bear, unless a Christian incessantly has the same issues after prayers of faith. In that event, I surmise it is legitimate to do so under an extension of the “confess your faults” clause of James 5:16.

In conclusion, the concept of renouncing curses has become ingrained in the collective psyche of a sector of the Church. Due to this, it is better to address the matter on common ground than to try to stop the momentum of what so many reliable voices assert.

We can offer thanks to the Lord for allowing us innovation in our efforts to see captives of life’s bondages liberate.

Derek Prince - Why Israel?

Bible teaching by Derek Prince.

The words Israel and Israelite occur more than 2,500 times in the Bible. In this insightful message, Derek Prince reveals God's heart for Israel, and explains why the people of Israel are so special to Him.

Peter Derek Vaughan Prince (Bangalore, 14 August 1915–Jerusalem, 24 September 2003) was an international Bible teacher whose daily radio programme Derek Prince Legacy Radio (presently hosted by author Stephen Mansfield) broadcasts to half the population of the world in various languages. These languages include English, Arabic, Spanish, Croatian, Russian, Malagasy, Tongan, Samoan and four dialects of Chinese. He was probably most noted for his teachings about deliverance from demonic oppression and about Israel. He was best known in Pentecostal and Charismatic circles although his teaching is distinctly non-denominational, a fact that has long been emphasised by his worldwide ministry. Derek Prince Ministries operated under the slogan Reaching the unreached and teaching the untaught. Today the mission statement is, Derek Prince Ministries exists to develop disciples of Jesus Christ, through the Bible teaching of Derek Prince. The vision is to reach the peoples of the world, in a language they understand, with the Bible teaching of Derek Prince, using every type of media and all forms of distribution, regardless of the economic means of the recipients.

    Early life and conversion

Derek Prince was born in India of British parents and was educated at Eton College and Kings College, Cambridge. He was a scholar of Greek and Latin, although at Cambridge he took Philosophy, specialising in logic and studying under Ludwig Wittgenstein. His MA dissertation was titled The Evolution of Plato's Method of Definition, and won him a fellowship at the age of just 24.

Under the influence of vice-chancellor Charles Raven, Prince refused to bear arms in World War II, and instead joined the Royal Army Medical Corps. He was posted toScarborough for training, and while in the Army Barracks he started reading the Bible (as a philosophical self-assignment). As a consequence in July 1941 Derek had what he described as a supernatural experience', a meeting with Jesus. "Out of this encounter" he later wrote, " I formed two conclusions: first, that Jesus Christ is alive; second, that the Bible is a true, relevant, up-to-date book. These conclusions altered the whole course of my life". During the next three years, he was posted to North Africa, where he served inEgypt, the Sudan, and Palestine, and continued his bible studies.

    The early years

Derek Prince was born in Bangalore, India, in 1915, into a world and a way of life that no longer exists. Kings, queens and emperors ruled over vast domains, and the British Empire exceeded them all. The British army and civil service governed the colonies, and India was the brightest jewel in the imperial crown. Derek says, "I was born into a family of 'empire builders'. My father, Paul Ernest Prince, was an officer in the Queen's own Madras Sappers and Miners, his commission signed by Victoria's own hand. My mother, Gwendolen, also born in India, was the daughter of Major General Robert Edward Vaughan. Her brother, a Punjab Lancer, later became a brigadier."

As was customary in that society, Derek was promptly handed over to the care of an Indian ayah or nanny. Derek and his ayah accompanied his parents on journeys around India while he was still small enough to be carried in a tiffin or picnic basket. They travelled by railway, by horse and carriage, and sometimes in rickshaws. Even though motor cars and aeroplanes were becoming more common in the West, this was the normal traffic in India. Soldiers rode horses, and most people walked.

The pace of life was slow. People wrote letters and sent them off to England, sometimes waiting weeks for a reply. In a real emergency, the telegraph could be used, but to Derek "home" in England seemed a very remote place.

Yet, when Derek was five, he said goodbye to his father, his ayah, and his Indian playmates and boarded the ship for 'home'. Along with the other passengers, he dangled his topee (sun helmet) overboard until it sank, as a symbol of his farewell to India. His mother took him to her parents' home in Sussex, and then she also departed, leaving him until their next furlough.

Those early years shaped Derek's character and the course of his life. Even though he was the only son and the only grandson, he was expected to behave like a good soldier. His grandparents were kind to him, at the same time training him to excel in whatever he did and to be prepared to carry on the family military tradition.

As a young child he learned to entertain himself. He says, 'I always had friends, but I enjoyed my own company most.' When he discovered the world of books, he began his search to find out what life was about.

At the age of nine Derek was sent off to boarding school, leaving his grandparents whom he loved dearly. From that time on all his teachers and associates were masculine. In the school system of that time both class work and sports were highly competitive. He participated enthusiastically and successfully in sports, and academically, he was usually at the top of his class. His early training in diligence and thoroughness enabled him to maintain that position.

When he was thirteen, his headmaster entered his name in the competitive exam for a place at Eton College, and he was one of the fourteen boys of his age to be enrolled as king's scholars in the election of 1929. Like other boys his age, he had begun to study Latin at the age of nine and Greek at ten and was writing and translating verse in both languages by the time he was twelve. As he studied the classics, he became more enthralled with the realm of ideas and was drawn toward philosophy. At the back of his mind was always the tantalizing question: What is the real meaning and purpose of life?

His father, who retired as a colonel and settled in a country home in Somerset, encouraged him in his quest. In 1934, his father gave him an allowance of twenty pounds per month, and Derek set off with a friend to 'see the Continent.' Derek's aptitude for languages enabled him to find the cheapest rooms and food in a time when few people his age were traveling. He often found the local people and customs more interesting than museums and ruins, even in Rome and Athens where the classics had been written.

Upon his return to England, Derek entered King's College, Cambridge, as the senior scholar of his year. (King's is a sister college of Eton.) There also he distinguished himself academically, and from 1938 to 1940 he was the senior research student of Cambridge University. He specialised in the philosophy of Plato and entitled his dissertation 'The Evolution of Plato's Method of Definition.' In 1940, at the age of twenty-four, he was elected a fellow of King's College, Cambridge.

Derek's academic career, however, was interrupted abruptly by World War II. On the basis of his philosophical convictions, he chose to enter the forces as a non-combatant and began as a private in the Royal Army Medical Corps.

At this point he decided to look into another kind of philosophy about which he knew very little. He bought a new black leather-bound Bible for his reading material in the army. He had been christened and confirmed as an Anglican and had attended required chapel services during his five years at Eton. At age eighteen, however, he had concluded that 'religion does not do much for me' and only attended chapel at King's College when it was his turn to read the lesson. For the first nine months in the army he ploughed his way through the Bible, finding it baffling and bewildering, unlike any other book he had ever read. He said, 'I couldn't categorise it. Was it history, philosophy, literature, theology, poetry - or even divinely inspired?'

Then in a billet in Yorkshire in July 1941, he met the Author. Recalling that supernatural experience, he says:

Out of that encounter, I formed two conclusions which I have never had reason to change: first, that Jesus Christ is alive; second, that the Bible is a true, relevant, up-to-date book. These two conclusions radically and permanently altered the whole course of my life. Immediately the Bible became clear and intelligible to me; prayer and communion with God became as natural as breathing; my main desires, motives and purposes in life were transformed overnight.

I had found what I was searching for! The meaning and purpose of life is a Person!
