Former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (1928-2014) was
a decorated IDF general who fought time and again
"for the sake our people and for the sake of the cities
of our God." From the beginning, in Israel’s 1948
War of Independence, a young Sharon distinguished
himself on the battlefield, rising to become one of Israel’s
most highly regarded generals. He continued to fight
and lead in the proud defense of the nation he loved.

Today's Israel Photo
Today's historic photo shows Ariel Sharon with soldiers of
his Unit 101, the IDF's commando unit whose purpose was
to execute reprisal operations in response to Palestinian
terror attacks. Unit 101 merged with the paratroopers brigade
of which Sharon became the commander.
