Colel Chabad is Celebrating 229 Years of Blessing Israel ✡ "Thou Hast Been a Refuge" - ISRAEL365

For Thou hast been a refuge for me, a tower of strength in the face of the enemy.

Today's Israel Inspiration

In the early period of Zionism, Jews sought to build up the Land of Israel, setting up agricultural settlements and hoping to live in peace with their neighbors in the Holy Land. In 1927, an organization purchased a plot of land south of Bethlehem and called their new settlement Migdal Eder, the name of a place that Jacob passed on his journeys through the land. Unfortunately, during the Arab uprisings in 1929, the settlement was destroyed. 50 years later, a new agricultural community, or ‘kibbutz,’ was created in the same area. It was given a similar name to its predecessor, but the current name was taken from Psalm 61 of King David’s psalms. In this verse, David speaks of God as his refuge, his migdal oz, or a "tower of strength", against his enemies. A follower of the Bible must always strive to emulate God and become a "tower of strength" for others. In 1788, Colel Chabad was established as just that: a source of inspiration and support for the elderly and poor of Israel.

Colel Chabad's Mission to Bless Israel is Supported By These Generous Souls

Since its inception in 1788, Colel Chabad has prevented starvation throughout the Land of Israel by contributing food and other needed items to the poor and elderly. Join us as we celebrate the faces behind the helping hands.

Shir Hajaj was a true example of what it means to be humbly performing charitable acts and we can only hope that this remarkable lesson will offer some comfort to her family and friends during this tragic time.

Today's Israel Photo

The Chords Bridge in Jerusalem was designed to resemble David's harp, a king whose youth as a skilled warrior enabled a successful conquest and defeat of the enemies of Israel. With each glance at the bridge, one is reminded of his strength, an inspiration to those who love the Holy City.
