In memory of Shira - Israel Today

In memory of Shira

Wednesday, January 18, 2017 |  Israel Today Staff

Dear friends,
It has not been long since the dreadful news of the terrorist attack in Jerusalem killed three young girls and a young man. All of Israel is still shaken and the mourning and solidarity is being shown from all corners of the world.
This tragedy has touched me personally and goes deep, very deep! It has taken me a while to be able to put anything into words at all... It is difficult to describe my feelings which accompany a day-to-day life...
Shira was the daughter of Einat and Dudi, who I met shortly after arriving in Israel 27 years ago, when attending a pre-natal course. Einat and I gave birth just 1 day apart and our sons, Yarin and Adi, lay side by side in the hospital. Since then we have been in contact. We also lived in the neighbourhood and our children played and grew up together. Dudi and Einat went to live in Germany, my home country, as representatives of the Israeli Navy. Shira showed an affection to Germany and enjoyed her time there. Shira was a perfect ambassador of both Israel and Germany.
As a mother of children that have served in the IDF, I know what it is like to have sleepless nights worrying about the safety of one's children.
And then it happens,
The misfortune!!!
So close to you,
That it takes your breath away.
The pain...
It is difficult to comprehend the pain that Einat and Dudi are experiencing after the loss of their daughter that many parents and families in Israel have endured. And to realize that it could have been you. The thought is unbearable!
One hopes that sooner or later a solution will be found in which the people of the Middle East could live together in peace so that no mother will have to live in fear of her children's safety not to mention experiencing a tragic loss!
