How can we respond to those who hate Israel? - ONE FOR ISRAEL

SHALOM!
Chances are, if you are receiving our newsletters, that there is a place in your heart for Israel. Perhaps, like us, you may grieve at some of the troubling things in our society and the lostness of our people - but not without a heart of love and compassion. However, hatred of the Jewish state is a constant feature of our media landscape. What does God see when he looks at Israel? And how can we respond to all this?

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem—
“May those who love you be at peace!
May there be shalom within your walls—
quietness within your palaces.” (Psalm 122:6-7)

Seeking God About the Boycott of Israel

Here are some pointers for Christians who want understand why some people are boycotting Israel, and also for those who long to do something to help in this bitter and complicated conflict. Some believe that a boycott would be an effective way to exert pressure on Israel and bring an end to this limbo for the Palestinians, but the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement is not all it may seem on the surface.

Even though we long for freedom, peace and dignity for the Palestinian people, we believe that boycotting Israel is not only ineffective, but also the wrong thing to do.
The Multi-Layered Meaning of "Shalom"

Jerusalem, as Yehuda Amichai once put it, is a “port city on the shore of eternity”. It is like a portal to that which is beyond this material world, up into the heavenlies. Why? Is Jerusalem a super-spiritual city? Not in and of itself, no. God was willing to destroy it, along with his own temple more than once. But it is holy because God chose it. Like his own chosen people. God chose Jerusalem to be the geographical location from which he would redeem the world; it is the location of the death and resurrection of the Messiah. That event happened in a specific time and a specific place, but the results flow into eternity. It is also the place he is coming back to! So Jerusalem is God’s chosen city in real time and space, but the significance and effect is eternal.
