We all remember the movie “”Fiddler on the Roof”. Especially the one with Chaim Topol as Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman in early 20th-century Russia. I love his character!

Remember the matchmaker, the old lady who brought a young man and a young woman together? And the song the daughters sang, as their hearts longed for a good husband? (Full lyrics below.)

I love it when I see the good Lord connecting people for His purposes and plans. And when He brings together a man and a woman, as He fully intends in His awesome family plans. It is so special and the families rejoice as they should in celebration.

Marriage between a man and a woman should not be a decisive thing. Nor should we allow the enemy of the Lord and His people to make it so. Just basic “sight and science” show His creative design and great achievement to bring more on earth for His eternal family.

That is what a father, and the Father, has always wanted. And trust me, HE will always get what He wants. I can rest in that.

For those longing for a good husband, or a good wife, seek the Father who already knows who it is. And then be patient as He brings you together in love and grace.

Matchmaker! Make them a match! And we will give thanks to You again in joy and love!

Stop and Rest

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28, NASB

 

When Laurie and I returned from our three-month service in Jerusalem, Israel, in January 2026, we looked forward to getting together with our friends for our monthly home group. It was being a little “re-formatted”, as office people like to say, with not so much teaching and such, but more of a family time. Friends together worshiping Jesus, having good fellowship, personal prayer on the “hot seat” for one another, communion, and a bit of food to enjoy. You know, appetizer things.

It was all good. Each was lifted up, built up in their spirit, and refreshed.

In fact, when all the others had received a moment of personal prayer and prophetic words, it was my turn. I always treasure these moments. The Lord has a personal touch that He uses each of us to give to others with the gifts He has bestowed, because He has a father’s heart, and loves to give “good gifts” (Matthew 7:11, 1 Corinthians 12) to His children.

Not quoting word for word, because I didn’t have my phone recording as I usually do for these times to remember later, one spoke these words over me, “Steve, the Lord wants to give you a time of rest. To stop and rest, after your recent service, for when He sends you back again.”

A time of rest was needed. Some, apart from the group, had thought Laurie and my recent time in Israel was “a vacation”. Well, brothers and sisters, as many of you know, giving out to those in need and wanting more is not going on a vacation. Nor a cruise. It is time to empty yourself for others, to do what the Lord has sent you to do. And by His grace, we did it.

Many of us don’t know how to stop and rest. We are like Martha in Yeshua’s earthly time here, always working, always serving, always giving out.

And Jesus had to say to her, too, “Martha, stop and rest.” (Steve Martin translation.)

Resting in the Lord, though, is not just stopping and getting off the fast train. That may be part of it, but not always.

It is not just sitting in front of the TV watching the game or the latest movie. Or the fake news, which makes one more uneasy and unsettled.

Stopping each day, in fact, to sit with the Lord, read His Word, and give Him time to speak to you, is finding rest. Being encouraged in your soul and allowing Him to fill you up again for the new day, the next “deployment,” as I like to call it, is necessary for each of us. Our bodies, our souls, our spirits were not meant to go on and on and on. We need to have time to stop and rest.

Jesus Himself had to leave the many, find His resting spot on the mountain, seek the Father, and rest.

I encourage you to do the same. Be sure to set aside a time each day. You need it. He has it for you. Do it. Make it a daily practice in your life.

Always On Time “…and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God, if perhaps they might feel around for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and [exist…” Acts 17: 26-28, NASB   A wise man I have always respected once said, “There are no emergencies in the Kingdom of God”. His name was (is) Derek Prince, who passed on to glory in 2003. For me, he was one of the best Bible teachers I have ever known. He would teach the Word of God in ways I and others could fully understand. Thank you, Derek.   As I listened to the wonderful worship song by Elevation Worship, “Always On Time”, thinking back to what I have been taught, our Lord God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, proved that there are no emergencies in the Kingdom of God, and they truly, the Holy Trinity, are always on time. When there seems to be an emergency, or even a time of indecision or “nothing happening”, the Lord proves He has us right in the palm of His hand.   He has always been on time when I needed some encouragement, a decision made, a way to go when the going looked bleak, the seemingly impossible, “never going to happen” moments. And I know you have had those times too. As you look back, you can say “Yes, You were there.” Right?   Our Good Lord has always been faithful. He can be no other. He can do no other. He knows all, sees all, will give faith for all, as we call on His Name. We will find, as we seek Him, the amazing Lord He is, the One Who is worthy of our life that we give to Him, that He has the best for us.  And as we offer up our life to Him in faith and trust, we can know His will for us more fully. And later we will look back and say, “You were always on time.”   “Never been a minute, never been a moment, that You weren’t in it.
