Supreme Court Won't Stop Mississippi Freedom of Conscience Law - CBN News

Supreme Court Won't Stop Mississippi Freedom of Conscience Law
CBN News 01-08-2018
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court is refusing to intervene in a legal fight over a Mississippi law that lets government workers and private business people cite their own religious beliefs to deny services to LGBT people.
Opponents say the law could lead to discrimination against those who support same-sex marriage.

The justices did not comment Monday in their decision to leave in place a federal appeals court ruling that allowed the law to take effect. A three-judge panel held that the law's challengers failed to show they would be harmed by it. The appellate judges did not rule on the law's substance.

The legal battle is not over, though. A federal judge has allowed the law's challengers to try to find people who have been denied services under the law because they would be able to make a strong legal claim that they have been harmed.

The Mississippi legislature drafted and approved the measure in response to the Supreme Court's 2015 decision that legalized same-sex marriage across the country. Gov. Phil Bryant signed it into law in 2016, but it was blocked for more than a year amid several legal challenges. It took effect Oct. 10.

The law says it protects three beliefs: that marriage is only between a man and a woman, that sex should only occur in such a marriage and that a person's gender is determined at birth and cannot be altered.

The law allows county clerks who object to same-sex marriage on religious grounds to avoid issuing licenses to gay and lesbian couples. It also protects merchants who refuse services to LGBT people, and might also affect adoptions and foster care, business practices and school bathroom policies. Opponents say it also allows pharmacies to refuse to fill birth control prescriptions for unmarried women.

The Battle for the Heart and Soul of the IDF - Tsvi Sadan ISRAEL TODAY

The Battle for the Heart and Soul of the IDF

Monday, January 30, 2017 |  Tsvi Sadan  ISRAEL TODAY
The IDF has been at the center of passionate public debate since last year's speech by Maj.-Gen. Yair Golan, at the time the army's deputy chief of staff, on the occasion of Holocaust Memorial Day.
His remarks on Israeli society kicked up a firestorm that refuses to subside. According to Golan, Israel today reminds him of the "horrific processes which developed in Europe – particularly in Germany – 70, 80, and 90 years ago, and finding remnants of that here among us in the year 2016."
The general's harsh statement was perceived as left-wing ideology the type of which has been firmly entrenched within the IDF's upper echelons, resulting in questionable moral codes that severely hinder the army's very purpose to protect Israel.
Particularly annoyed by this is the religious community, which sees the liberal values of gender equality and LGBT rights as especially aggravating since those directly contradict Jewish religious laws. One of the harshest critics of the IDF is Rabbi Zvi Tau, head of Har Hamor Yeshiva. Among the national religious yeshivas, the prestigious Har Hamor is branded as "national-Orthodox," a relative newcomer among the Zionist religious movements that are typically lenient.
R. Tau, who previously insisted that the IDF leadership had no mandate to alter Jewish culture, spoke recently with the heads of religious pre-military academies (mechinot) to discuss whether or not it was permitted for their graduates to serve in the Israeli army.
The discourse, published by the religious portal Kipa, reveals the depth of the crisis between the religious community and the IDF.
To clarify, R. Tau is adamant that young religious Jews should not be give the option to refuse military service. "If for a moment we'll be left without an army, we will have no country … on account of some who have fallen flat on their faces should we not do what is right?" he questioned.
Tau's remedy is to strengthen religious education so that the students would find the inner strength to resist the army's insistence on doing what is wrong. "Is there any other place in the world where, as a matter of abiding principle, men and women are bedded in the same place … are these human norms?" he wondered. "This is how one loses sanity, the basic norms of God's image in human beings."
Tau, therefore, is calling on religious soldiers to pay the price for being forced into unlawful norms. "The people of Israel have stood firm for two millennia of exile," he said, "and here is someone holding on to the new demon of post modernism, he will try to make us leave our religion? We are willing to take part in whatever is asked, but not in this madness, not in this beastly behavior."
This battle over the army's spirit is far from over and shows at least one thing - that unlike in the past, attempts to fundamentally alter the army's culture can no longer go unnoticed, nor can the army afford to ignore the challenges it faces from devout Jews.

Pro-Life Women's Groups to Take Part in 'Women's March on Washington' - BOB ESCHLIMAN CHARISMA NEWS

Pro-Life Women's Groups to Take Part in 'Women's March on Washington'

BOB ESCHLIMAN  CHARISMA NEWS
An event planned for the day after President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration is supposed to be meant to give voice to people who were "marginalized" by his campaign, but at least two pro-life groups have pledged to join in.
Organizers of the Women's March on Washington offer the following description of their event:
On Jan. 21, 2017, we will unite in Washington, D.C., for the Women's March on Washington. We stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families—recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.
The rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized and threatened many of us—women, immigrants of all statuses, those with diverse religious faiths particularly Muslim, people who identify as LGBTQIA, native and indigenous people, black and brown people, people with disabilities, the economically impoverished and survivors of sexual assault. We are confronted with the question of how to move forward in the face of national and international concern and fear.
In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity and justice who have come before us, we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore. The Women's March on Washington will send a bold message to our new administration on their first day in office and to the world that women's rights are human rights. We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.
We support the advocacy and resistance movements that reflect our multiple and intersecting identities. We call on all defenders of human rights to join us. This march is the first step towards unifying our communities, grounded in new relationships, to create change from the grassroots level up. We will not rest until women have parity and equity at all levels of leadership in society. We work peacefully while recognizing there is no true peace without justice and equity for all. Hear our voice.
But if the event is going to focus on the marginalized voices of women, the leaders of Stanton Policy Center, Sound Legal Group and other pro-life groups from across the nation want to make sure it's every voice that is heard.
"As a woman who has spent most of her life standing up against injustice in the world and promoting the dignity of women and the sanctity of every human life, I am thrilled to be a part of the Women's March," Stanton Healthcare and Stanton Policy Center founder Brandi Swindell said. "We are entering into a critical time in our nation, and women deserve to be a part of the discussions and to have their voices heard."
Swindell, who is organizing the pro-life groups' participation in the march, said she stands with women across America who:
  • want Obamacare overturned so women can be given the power to make decisions about their own healthcare and what services they pay for,
  • believe that women deserve better than Planned Parenthood and that the abortion-giant should be defunded—and that those funds should be reallocated to whole women's healthcare centers and
  • believe that women deserve every opportunity and choice to succeed in this world and to make their lives better—none of which includes abortion.
The groups will gather at the U.S. Supreme Court building at 9 a.m. EST on Saturday, Jan. 21, and then walk to the March for Women rally together. Stanton Policy Center Senior Adviser Kate Bryan, another pro-life participation organizer, said the Women's March on Washington has given women from across America a platform from which to make their voices heard in Washington, D.C., and its "inclusive approach" has opened up the opportunity for every woman—no matter her age, race, background, politics or faith—to have her voice heard in the public square.
"Women throughout all of history have been the bedrock of our society and have always been a critical part of the fight against injustice," she said. "I stand with women across our great nation who stand against injustice and follow the original ideals of the feminist movement, seeking to promote the dignity and respect of every human being—no matter their age, gestation, background, race, politics, faith or any other factor.
"Every life is precious and deserves to be protected. And women deserve better than abortion."
Catherine Glenn Foster, a civil rights attorney and founder of Sound Legal Group, said that while the Women's March on Washington claims to be about human rights, nonviolence and confronting injustice, inviting groups such as Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Rights Action League as co-sponsors has failed to live up to that mission. She said the organizers have failed to confront the injustice already staring them in the face.
"Human rights and nonviolence apply to everyone, regardless of age and disability, and are most powerful and most urgent when serving those who need it most," she said. "It's time for the Women's March to speak up for all women."

How Gay Activists Will Respond to a Major Scientific Report That Refutes Their Talking Points

MICHAEL BROWN  CHARISMA NEWS
In the Line of Fire, by Michael Brown
As reported by Ryan T. Anderson on Monday, "A major new report, published today in the journal The New Atlantis, challenges the leading narratives that the media has pushed regarding sexual orientation and gender identity."
How significant was this report?
"Co-authored by two of the nation's leading scholars on mental health and sexuality, the 143-page report discusses over 200 peer-reviewed studies in the biological, psychological and social sciences, painstakingly documenting what scientific research shows and does not show about sexuality and gender."
What were the conclusions of this study? "The major takeaway, as the editor of the journal explains, is that 'some of the most frequently heard claims about sexuality and gender are not supported by scientific evidence.'"
How will gay activists respond? They will shoot the messengers. Watch and see.
We've seen the pattern for years.
Gay activists and their allies will discredit an individual or a group, then when that individual or group challenges their position, they reply, "No one listens to him/her/them. They've been totally discredited!"
The SPLC has often been complicit in this, branding a conservative Christian organization as a hate group or classifying a conservative spokesman as a new leader of the radical right, therefore, whatever they say can be safely dismissed. After all, they're haters and bigots!
When it comes to the authors of this important new study, they are hardly rightwing, fundamentalist, conservatives. Hardly!
One of the authors, Dr. Lawrence S. Mayer, "is a scholar in residence in the Department of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a professor of statistics and biostatistics at Arizona State University."
He has taught at eight universities (including Princeton and Stanford) and, "His full-time and part-time appointments have been in 23 disciplines, including statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, social methodology, psychiatry, mathematics, sociology, political science, economics, and biomedical informatics."
The other author is even more acclaimed. Dr. Paul McHugh is "university distinguished service professor of psychiatry and a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He was for 25 years the psychiatrist-in-chief at the Johns Hopkins Hospital."
Dr. McHugh "was elected a member of the National Academy of Medicine (formerly the Institute of Medicine) in 1992. From 2002 to 2009, he was a member of the President's Council on Bioethics," among his many accomplishments.
These certainly sound like formidable scholars, and so their 143-page report, which, as stated, "discusses over 200 peer-reviewed studies," should be taken very seriously when it challenges many of the major talking points put forward by gay activists including: Gays are born that way and cannot change; "non-heterosexuals are about two to three times as likely to have experienced childhood sexual abuse"; when compared to the general population, "non-heterosexual subpopulations are at an elevated risk for a variety of adverse health and mental health outcomes"; and the idea that "a person might be 'a man trapped in a woman's body' or 'a woman trapped in a man's body'—is not supported by scientific evidence."
Note carefully those closing words, which are a theme of the entire study: These foundational LGBT talking points are "not supported by scientific evidence."
I can assure you, though, that rather than interacting with the scientific evidence presented in this formidable study, the vast majority of LGBT activists and their allies will dismiss it out of hand.
Why? Because, they will say, Dr. McHugh is an infamous transphobe who is totally out of touch with modern science while Dr. Mayer is unqualified to write on this topic.
As I said before, watch and see.
When it comes to Dr. McHugh, he committed the cardinal sin of opposing sex-change surgery during his tenure at Johns Hopkins Hospital, which is why that surgical procedure was dropped under his leadership. But he did this based on years of interaction with those who identified as transgender, interviewing them before and after surgery, ultimately concluding that, "We psychiatrists ... would do better to concentrate on trying to fix their minds and not their genitalia."
I reached out to him in November before I appeared on the Tyra Banks show to discuss transgender children, wanting to know if his views had changed based on more current research. He replied to me on Nov. 18, 2009: "I hold that interfering medically or surgically with the natural development of young people claiming to be 'transgendered' is a form of child abuse."
Not surprisingly, there are few psychiatrists hated more by LGBT leaders than Paul McHugh.
Just within the last few years, the transadvocate.com website accused him of "clinging to a dangerous past"; the Huffington Post claimed that he "endangers the lives of transgender youth"; the advocate.com website referred to the "scary science at John Hopkins University"; and a thinkprogress.org headline declared, "Meet the Doctor Social Conservatives Depend on to Justify Anti-Transgender Hate."
So when it comes to Dr. McHugh, the script has already been written, and no matter what the scientific evidence states and no matter how carefully he has presented it, he will be viciously attacked and his research will be flatly rejected.
As for Dr. Mayer, again, my expectation is that he will be dismissed as unqualified, while his guilt by association with Dr. McHugh and Johns Hopkins will be used against him as well.
The good news is that, over time, truth will triumph, which is why Principle #6 in my book Outlasting the Gay Revolution was "Keep Propagating the Truth Until the Lies Are Dispelled."
Those who want to know the truth owe it to themselves to study this new report carefully, determined to follow the truth wherever it leads. Those choosing to shoot the messengers will only hurt themselves in the end.

Bibi's message to the free world proves that the terrorist will never win (Graphic) - ISRAEL VIDEO NETWORK

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Bibi-orlando-attack-email
Here is a head of state, a world leader and a patriot, making a simple yet profound statement of solidarity, support and determination. Unlike Obama, he doesn’t seize the tragedy to advance an anti-gun agenda or blame the opposition party. He simply acts like a leader, a statesman, and a humble human being who doesn’t need to bluster, lie, or thump his chest. He gives us all hope for a better future.

“All of us are targets.
We believe that all people are created in the image of God.
ISIS, by contrast, believes that all people who aren’t just like them deserve to die.
We will not be terrified into submission.
We will fight back. And we will triumph.
I have no doubt that those who seek to spread hate and fear will be defeated.
Working together we will defeat them even faster.
We need to stand united, resolute in the belief that all people regardless of their sexual orientation, regardless of their race, regardless of their ethnicity, all people deserve respect, deserve dignity.”
