Preparing the Spiritual Atmosphere by Morris Ruddick

Preparing the Spiritual Atmosphere by Morris Ruddick

With spiritual maturity will come responsibility. With responsibility will come conflict. And yet, spiritual maturity and responsibility, more often will begin with conflict.

God’s original assignment for man was that of dominion. From the time of the Fall, through the ages, to the glimpse of the climax seen by John on Patmos, the trajectory for God’s people has been that of restoration. A trajectory historically accompanied by ample conflict.

It is the restoration of the beacon flowing ….with what it means to be a culture within a culture. It is the authority and anointing that accompanies maturity. It releases the power to embrace the responsibility.

And it requires the preparation to enable the Lord to do His part in taking the offensive ….in the strategic change of restoration in this age-old conflict. The process of this mandate was captured uniquely during a time of conflict with the words God imparted to Jeremiah:
“You are my battle-axe and weapon of war. Through you, I will break nations in pieces. Through you, I will destroy kingdoms and strongholds. And I will repay Babylon and Chaldea.” Jer 51:20, 24

This dramatic assignment conforms with those gleaned by Isaiah, Ezekiel and Daniel ….along with the prophetic highlights imparted to John by Jesus of the final conflict when God’s people make their final stand against the prince of darkness.

This execution of this dual-thrust of God and His people …..merging the authority and anointing of God’s people taking their stand …..with the unlimited power from on High, requires the preparation of the spiritual atmosphere.

When the Authority and Anointing Combine with Unity
This preparation was captured, as the leadership and generation-changed, with the Lord’s instructions to Joshua before taking the offensive in entering the promised land.

The time when Joshua replaced Moses was dramatic. With the extended judgment having passed, with the exception of Joshua and Caleb, it comprised a new and very eager generation. The words, engendering expectation and faith, that came from the Lord were strong and direct. It was time. The Lord was about to demonstrate His awesome power in fulfilling His promises. But there were conditions to be met by God’s people.

The people faced a time of getting ready, meaningfully preparing for a season beyond their expectations. Overshadowing the readiness task was its link to preparing the spiritual atmosphere.

Through consecration, they were about to become a part of change so powerful, it would impact everything in the path before them. THe words of Joshua that the Lord was about to do wonders among them, fails to fully capture the realities they were about to encounter. They had heard about the parting of the Red Sea. But this would be beyond anything they had ever experienced.

The cost began with their preparation …..the consecration. This preparation, together with God’s power, would lead into taking the actions that would electrify and change the spiritual atmosphere ….and release wonders.
“So consecrate yourselves, for the Lord will do wonders among you.” Joshua 3:5

Consecrate means to set apart; to be devoted irrevocably to God, to His Holy purposes. It entails ridding oneself ….which ranges from mind-sets to behaviors ….of anything contrary to one’s identity-in-God and the divine assignment at hand.

This dynamic of preparation is twofold. First it took place not just on an individual and tribal basis, but on a national basis. AND this generation of Israel was “all-in.”
“So they answered Joshua, saying, “All that you command us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. Just as we heeded Moses in all things, so we will heed you. Only the LORD your God be with you, as He was with Moses. Whoever rebels against your command and does not heed your words, in all that you command him, shall be put to death. Only be strong and of good courage.” Joshua 1:16-18

Secondly, the preparation was short-lived. It was the spiritual re-boot needed to move forward in taking the action needed to align with the thrust intended by the Spirit of the Lord.

The Cost for God’s Purpose of Restoration
Understanding God’s age-old pattern of restoration helps in grasping the focus of the assignment for God’s people with priorities that come from on High, from age to age. It reflects the dynamic that has taken place from Moses to Joshua to David ….to the climax of the confrontations of evil in John’s Revelations.

The significance in the preparation in each of these head-on confrontations with evil …..is that they would begin with changing the spiritual atmosphere.

It is preparation that is not designed to take on a life of its own, but rather to prepare for action. Action that will not presume, but be accompanied by the evidence of “wonders” from on-High. The preparation is accompanied by the commitment needed …..to avoid the love of the world, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life.

Perhaps a glimmer of insight might be found in the circumstances faced by believers who reside in today’s Iran …whose lives have aligned with living according to the standard expressed in John of “the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony, loving their lives not unto death.”

Pretty severe? When it is recognized that the destination intended by the subtleties of darkness is death, it is not. Joshua outlined the practicalities:
“Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:7-8

The Stance that Releases God’s Wonders
“Being all-in” takes strength and courage to adhere to the standard, as well as the discipline needed to ensure it is maintained as the top-of-mind priority. It also entails the cost of one’s identity in the Lord being sufficient to becoming a specific target ….and the process admonished in John that goes with embracing the blood of the Lamb with the word of their testimony …that of loving not their lives unto death.

Maintaining such a stance engenders being released into a place under the shadow of His wings. AND with that, an authority that accompanies the assignment. As the dynamic manifests and takes root, it captures the attention of that “great cloud of witnesses” described in the Book of Hebrews.

Despite a world that views priorities and issues through the lens of geopolitics, the focus from on-High represents something far greater, yet far more subtle. That priority is the cause of freedom. Genuine freedom underscores the Jewish Torah message and the principles in governing and operating a God-centric society. Freedom bears significance in God’s “order,” a matter deemed worth fighting for, despite our misplaced loss of the significance of God’s order in the Hebrew word “shalom” or peace.

Recent Generation Examples of Atmosphere Change
Changing the spiritual atmosphere, as indicated by the admonition to consecrate, begins with the household of faith. But it doesn’t stop there. It gleans the instructions for moving into action. The only question then is what does that action, that culture-penetrating action from on-high look like in a twenty-first century world.

Perhaps we can gain insight from a review of what we would call “moves of God” that have taken place in the last generation. There has been one factor tied to each that has accompanied this reach for consecration. Likewise, in each instance there has been a correlation between these moves of God and a significant advancement of what God has been doing in modern-day Israel. These developments have been noted in previous posts for SIGN, yet are worthy of even closer examination.

The first took place in 1948 when, with amazing circumstances, against all odds in a time of war, this age-old process of restoration resulted in, once again within the Land promised to Abraham, of Israel becoming a nation. Just as amazingly, in that same year, in the US alone, 250 healing ministries began gaining attention ….with the restoration of the supernatural that was being demonstrated, having not been seen for some time even close to this level.

Then in another time of conflict in Israel, in 1967, Israel regained control of Jerusalem. Similarly, two key dynamics were underway within the Church. There was a massive move of God among Jews coming to the Lord ….yet uniquely maintaining their Jewish identities in a movement being labeled as the Messianic Jewish revival.

Simultaneously and accompanied by some overlap was the Jesus movement and restoration of the gifts of the Spirit within the Church that began being referred to as the Charismatic Renewal. Since that time, the Messianic Jewish congregations in the US have grown from a mere handful to over a thousand, with its spread manifesting internationally. In Israel, the call of Aliyah that began in those days has resulted in a third generation of an Israeli Messianic Jewish community, now being over 30,000.

The Subtle Catalyst for Birthing and Change
The thread that has accompanied each of these developments has been the groundswell of independent and coordinated prayer movements.

Today, many are now pointing to the October 7th conflict and the resulting war with Iran as being the flashpoint for this next step of restoration from on-High. Never has there been a time in this last generation when the call to prepare, to consecrate for what the Lord is about to do, been more critical.

Globally, a mosaic of Kingdom-initiatives are in the birthing stages. Globally, the prayer movements that accompanied the birth of Israel and then Israel regaining control of Jerusalem are gaining in unity. It represents a groundswell from nations from across sub-Haharan Afrika to nations across Asia ….each monitoring news developments regarding what God has been doing in the restoration of Israel.

The thrust of this ministry has long been in understanding the times, to know what to do. In paying heed to this focus, it is a time when those prepared, consecrated …..and gathering to pray …..would begin to recognize the authority they wield to change the spiritual atmosphere ….for what the Lord is about to do.

Gaining Clarity, Focus and Momentum
Likewise, it is a time to recognize and bypass the mounting, seductive distractions to gain clarity and unity in mobilizing the strategic prayer-initiatives being birthed globally.

These prayer-initiatives target the parallel move of God of restoration that the Lord is doing simultaneously in Israel and within the Church. The “next-step” of restoration from on-High from the steps the Lord has already orchestrated in 1948 and 1967 following the dramatic outcomes of the military conflicts that Israel underwent in those days.

In discerning these next steps, many have begun pointing to a massive move of Aliyah, the return of the Jews to their homeland, and I wouldn’t disagree. It will be a part. But there is more. Much more and we need to be focused, consecrated and mobilized.

While the events of 1948 and 1967 have manifested with a keen role played by the Church in the US, what is before us will also, but will shift globally to incorporate key roles played by the emergence of the persecuted and oppressed in the Church’s move of restoration.

So, as these days unfold, it is a time to be living consecrated lifestyles, to be giving keen heed to the regular practice of communion, to giving pause in praying for those who have spitefully used and been the persecutors. Doing so will release the clarity needed for the big-picture as this grand-strategy of mobilization conforms to what the Lord will be doing from on-High. It’s a time to bypass personal tripping points in order to penetrate and take authority over the shadows concealed by darkness. It’s a time to run, not walk in being connected, whether in going two-by-two or in gathering to pray with interactive, small prayer groups.

The Apostle Paul wrote the Ephesians about the correlation between spiritual maturity, this momentum and each one doing his part. As God spoke to Jeremiah of those things He would do through Jeremiah ….to break nations in pieces, destroy kingdoms and strongholds, with those wonders being established, there would come a time when He would sovereignly deal with Babylon and Chaldea, the age-old princes behind the world’s and darkness’ powers. It all begins with “so consecrate yourselves,” as we prepare the spiritual atmosphere for what He is about to do.

Abiding in His Rest - Morris Ruddick

Abiding in His Rest

Morris Ruddick

Abiding. His rest. Two dimensions; in essence, two vital realities that Scripture admonishes us to enter. Spiritual safe-places. Not only to experience, but to embrace as the mode in our journeys as mature spiritual beings in navigating this world.

Never has there been a time in my adult fifty plus year walk with the Lord that these spiritual safe-places have been more relevant ….and essential to the spiritual equilibrium needed for the pathway forward.

I would add an accompanying dimension to the faith called-for ….to abiding in His rest while managing the way forward in these turbulent times: courage. No more fence-sitting. It’s the identity-thing, requisite to being a believer. It takes courage to be different. Being different is who we are. It takes courage and resolve to transcend the seen, to live in the realm of the unseen, to walk by faith.

For most of the years of my spiritual journey, I’ve aligned myself, prayed for and worked together with segments of the Body within the global spectrum who have been persecuted for their faith. For years I’ve been noting that the culture–war that has defined the challenges shaping their conditions-of-life is one that we, as believers in free societies, need to recognize and be prepared for. For the most part, we’re there.

Our culture has long been in the cross-hairs. The deep penetration of darkness being presented as the norm is shocking. The propaganda repositioning the acceptability in the rise of anti-Semitism and acts of lawlessness is shameful. Norms, values and standards are being defiled and perverted to the extent that our very culture is at risk of being hijacked.

The Contrast
Jesus warned of these developments, in pointing to the turbulence that would erupt in the time leading into the end. He described it as times-of-trouble. Daniel foresaw the stark contrast between these emerging dimensions of reality when “many would be purified and refined, but the wicked would do wickedly and none of the wicked would understand, BUT the wise would understand.” Isaiah similarly discerned this dramatic contrast when deep darkness would seek to cover the peoples, while the Light of the Lord would manifest, arising upon His people.

What this historic and prophetic context unveils is the need for more; a greater demonstration of God’s presence among His people to counter the dark forces infiltrating its ranks. So it has reached the point that the toxic nature of the spiritual atmosphere and its accompanying clamor are triggering the need ….for a LOT more.

That “more” is inherently found in these two dimensions, in these two responses to the realities attempting to overshadow the fading “norms of good” within free cultures: abiding and doing so in His rest.

The challenge parallels the response to ancient trajectories of dark cultures of death, with their ideologies and subtle infiltrations, now so overtly manifesting within the societies of the persecuted; and coming out of the closet in raising its ugly head in free societies.

So, this creeping contrast between cultures is nothing new. It is one that historically, has its roots deep in ancient times; the reality that the Lord long ago cautioned His people to face directly. And an awakening within our society is underway, gaining momentum.

The principles outlined in the Torah represent the guardrails needed for a society of God’s people to live ….and thrive within the confines of His protection and direction. These principles can benefit a genuinely righteous society by the impact it has on communities and cultures of darkness ….with the fear of God. It’s the baseline protection the people of God have resulting from His presence, when ….together ….. they get the identity-thing right, of abiding in His rest.

Again, abiding in His rest pivots on the commitment to the identity-thing. When the conflict and controversy increase, so will the faith needed for the committed to take their stand.

The Impact of Being Forerunners
So it is that the issue points to the leadership required of forerunners, of being change-artists. It involves a cost for those who establish, perhaps more often reestablish the standard. Again, the courage to be different is a requisite; even more so in raising the banner.

Many are called, but few are chosen. There’s a reason Jesus made this observation. Over the course of the history of God’s people, the challenge and chink in the armor for God’s people ….which historically deeply impacted those embracing the New Covenant …..has been in the natural tendency of wanting to be like everyone else.

Which ties back to the foundational identity-thing. Becoming a believer is the result of recognizing and touching a reality. It’s a reality that transcends the natural order of things; a reality where God consistently abides. A reality that is a direct affront to the gatekeepers of darkness. So, being different, being a forerunner in raising the banner represents far, far more than just living by higher moral standards, although it is certainly that.

Believing in God and in these realities of God’s domain and the restoration obtained in the salvation made available by Jesus transforms the one believing. It represents an adjustment of their perception of reality, but with it, the way they think and process the realities around them. It represents a serious adjustment to who they are and their purpose in the overall scheme of things ….and a reset in the trajectory of their lives.

Maintaining this identity, purpose and trajectory is both the result and strategy of abiding in His rest.

The Cost of Serving as a Society of Leaders
What the Lord imparted with His chosen, through Moses’ impartation of the Torah, were the principles needed to become a society of leaders.

To be anchors and purveyors of Life in a world dominated by cults of death. In short, to be blessed, to be a blessing. To be the reflectors of the reset needed for true living. To live in community-relationship in such a way, that the Presence is a conscious manifestation. Being God’s chosen embraces a responsibility for influence ….serving as a Light in the darkness …. within one’s own sphere, yet simultaneously influencing surrounding societies.

THAT represents the interactive foundation for the community dynamic seen in this example of leadership. Jesus explained Kingdom leadership as service. It is an anointing. It reflects the exercise of authority as sheep among wolves ….to be change-artists through serving. To be bearers of His Presence without apology or in being intimidated.

So, abiding in His rest is both the strategy and the goal. It is the same whether the context is a spiritual atmosphere of serious persecution, one of freedom or one in which the conflict is challenging the cultural norms.

The cost begins by maintaining the discipline and the resolution to abide in His rest. There’s more. The impact of the pathway of this journey results in serving as leadership anchors in restoring the balance to the spiritual atmosphere, which both draws from and triggers His Presence, enhancing the enablement of that place of abiding in His rest.

So, both the path to this goal and its execution experiences exponential-increase of spiritual authority through abiding in His Presence, abiding in His rest. It is the trickle-down manifestation of the anointing for leadership. It is the gateway into the narrow path to being entrusted with His power.

The Long-Term Goal of Restoration
What the Lord established through what He outlined on Sinai was the basis for the restoration that began following the time of the Fall in the Garden: a people, albeit the most unlikely according to scripture, who would serve this purpose as a society of leaders.

Interestingly, it was to Jewish believers, forerunners of our faith in the book of Hebrews that the admonishment was written to press into maturity, to get beyond the basics to move the needle of restoration that the great cloud of witnesses from time-eternal are even now witnessing and encouraging ….as it comes into place. Again, it is both the strategy and the goal. It pivots on abiding in His Presence, His rest.

More than any other time I can remember in the days of my own journey, we are in a time when such ripples of influence are making a difference, again pointing to and triggering the encouragement of that great cloud of witnesses. Indeed, it was not for nothing that the writer of Hebrews so strongly advised it being time to push beyond the basics with the spiritual practices associated with the mature. The admonishment is to ACT in creating the ripples that reflect being carriers of His Presence.

Getting beyond the boundaries and acting, will include “why don’t we just pray about it?” and “can I pray for you?” becoming prioritized and the natural inclination when interacting with other believers. Then this simple dynamic will soon shift into becoming the mode of opportunity when sharing with non-believers.

The Impact of Community-Faith and Prayer
The inclination can tend to overlook the impact of the simple things. Gathering and praying with other believers triggers His presence. That should be baseline: praying spontaneously together with and for others.

But the impact of this dynamic extends beyond the ordinary when those prayers are with and for non-believers. It penetrates the spiritual atmosphere, as well as making a difference for the ones being prayed for. When the foundation of prayer gatherings is active within the community, the overflow outside its boundaries will become the most natural ….and mature thing to manifest.

This was the model demonstrated through the consistent practices of Jesus ….as well being  the hungry expectation of non-believers in the book of Acts, when in laying their beds out in the streets, that the authority from the mere shadow of Peter passing by would bring healing.

Going Beyond
It’s in the “going beyond,” arising with the authority to impart the anointing of His Presence that the trigger is actuated most profoundly, as the leadership-extended touches and influences the world. It is not unlike Joseph’s and Daniel’s prophetic impartations, so dramatically influencing Pharaoh and Nebuchadnezzar

One of the examples we encountered in a land of persecution took place in a remote Russian city, with a young, growing congregation that boldly sought to purchase a palace once occupied by Lenin and his inner circle. Their goal was to turn it into a community center. The Jewish community has long learned the value of community centers.

Their almost brash request created a stir among the authorities, many of whom sought to clamp down on the bold intentions of these fearless believers, until ….an older, wiser and more senior official stepped in with the advice: “Give the Christians whatever they want. They are doing so much good.”

This young, praying congregation was touching the community in ways the government had not been able. They were feeding the poor. They had a drug rehab program that transformed the lives of those who had been vagrants and criminals. They sent their people into the city’s prison, changing the lives of offenders who emerged as productive citizens. Praying together with these people was central to what they ministered.

Amazingly, the request to purchase the palace was approved …..creating a central site to administer their community services and extending the impact they were making on the community. So, it was my joy to impart my God’s economy program in that palace in an auditorium that once hosted Lenin and his inner staff.

Jesus said, “If you will abide in Me and my words abide in you, you will ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you.” It’s about living in His Presence and the impact that results from being carriers of His Presence.

The sequence in Matthew 10 and 11 captures this dynamic of the combined result and strategy from abiding in His rest, abiding in His Presence in the face of wickedness and impossible opposition.

To the band of twelve that Jesus chose and sent out, their assignment began with Him giving them authority over the dark spirits they would encounter. He told them to give focus to proclaiming the Kingdom of God; and to heal the sick.

In sending them out, He instructed them to discern where they would stay; then to impart His peace, His presence in the abodes of their hosts. He warned them of persecution, division and hate, indicating they would be going out as sheep among wolves. Even when faced with family betrayals, He admonished them to stay the course, to fear God, rather than giving heed to the fear of man.

As if to punctuate the reality of these seriously difficult instructions, there came the word that John the Baptist had been imprisoned. So, within the context of His “sending” instructions, Jesus described the stature and role of John as a forerunner, as being the greatest in the role he served in the Kingdom …. as Jesus had described the flashpoints to be expected, underscoring the need of abiding, when planting and imparting the power and atmosphere of the Kingdom: “From the days of John the Baptist until now, the Kingdom of heaven suffers violence and the violent take it by force.”

In conclusion, the atmosphere to be penetrated hasn’t changed. Nor has the challenge. The encouragement comes from that great cloud of witnesses. It transcends the times and nourishes the transitions of the generations. The Psalmist (Ps 24) presciently proclaimed: “THIS is the generation.” The MORE that is required and now underway is manifesting as the current generation arises, embraces its place of authority through abiding in His rest ….and ACTS.
“And it will be said, “Build up, build up, prepare the way, Remove every obstacle from the way of My people.” Isaiah 57:15

Responding to the Season Change - Morris Ruddick

Responding to the Season Change

Responding to the Season Change

When the season changes, targeting and responding to reality represents a greater challenge. Discerning what’s real; and doing so at the highest levels. It then is maintaining the standard, that is higher still. The lure is in underestimating and ignoring the change, its implications … and subtle connections to both encroaching darkness and opportunity.

It extends far beyond self, power or depravity although each has their tripping points. Being targeted as a standard bearer doesn’t make it any easier. Yet, with an identity of being made in His image, as reflectors of His radiance carries the responsibility of being alert, of reaching higher … and getting it right, especially in the view of the dark claims and perversions of truth amassing and influencing those whose eyes have not yet seen these realities.

There has not been a time, since the late 1930s, when the change and such false narratives have been on such a grand-scale; and with the subtleties, has been more complex and intense. And it is accelerating.

Having returned from an assignment in Israel, it has been in recognizing that the challenge lies in recognizing and responding to the shifts and unexpecteds. More of the same harder represents a snare. Understanding the times is one thing, processing the quantum, accelerating change and emerging narratives is another. We’re facing the basis for strategies that shape nations, economies and seasons. Yet, there is nothing new under the sun.

The prophets of old caught the glimmers and were distinguished by their grasp and response to the dynamics and shifts in the seasons, by sharply discerning and yielding to the heart of God …. employing the right filters to discern the big picture needed to understand the strategy the Lord was unfolding in anticipation for the impeding season.

The glimmers and strategies that resulted …. pushed many of those, whose words are still pregnant with expectation and authority, beyond themselves. These were those who understood the times on a level that made them game-changers.

Discerning the Filters
For those serious about their identities in God, the response to change first must accurately discern the filters. The filters that influence and impact the change. In today’s world we have a choice of the filters we are exposed to. While it has always required fervent discernment, for the people of God, more than in any previous time, the framework must begin with consistent and serious exposure to Spirit and Truth, from the Word of God.

Alarmingly, the alternative filters have not only become anti-Biblical, but have the seeds of being a higher morality contrary to the foundations of sound values and the infrastructures upholding civilized society. A steady diet of mainstream media leans toward subtle precepts in line with destruction and anarchy. During the rise of Nazi Germany, Hitler took complete control of the communication systems, resulting in only the most fervent and discerning getting a realistic grasp of reality and truth. His inner-circle strategy, labeled the Big Lie, was based on the presentation of issues so preposterous that people would tend to believe.

Another very key filter to this grasp of reality is reaching for a clear understanding of God’s heart; God’s priorities and how He thinks. This is why exposure to God’s Word is vital. It cannot be abbreviated or reduced to a selected slice of dogma. God’s perspective is outside the realm of time. As the prophet Isaiah observes, His ways and His thoughts are higher than ours. His is a big-picture, big-picture perspective.

When Jesus, with His identity hidden, appeared to the two disciples on the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24), they were confused over the crucifixion, as were most other of His followers. They grappled with Jesus’ death being the conclusion of the movement they had become a part of. Yet, in the short journey on that Road, Jesus was able to explain from Scripture and the prophets of old the big-picture perspective of the reality of what had been in process. As it has been unfolding in this hour, it was only the beginning.

Mysteries, Covenants, Judgment and Restoration
In the history of God and His people, the consistent big-picture filters unfolding over time …. have included four key driving factors: Mysteries, Covenants, Judgment and Restoration.

The mysteries tap the fact that reality must be interpreted from the stance that God’s ways and priorities are higher than ours, beyond our grasp …. until God chooses to connect the dots. With no “second-guessing” allowed.

Likewise, our grasp of covenant as a filter defines …. again over time …. God’s response in terms of His relationship with those who have transcended the natural realm to be transformed by His Presence. God’s covenants have matured over time and extend from Abraham to Moses to David to Jesus.

It explains the expectation God has for both individuals, but more importantly for the community of faith, those whose identities are in Him. The book of Hebrews offers a glimmer of that underlying expectation describing Jesus as being the exact radiance of God’s glory. Being made in His image, means we were designed to be reflectors of His Presence, which is somewhat captured in our grasp of the anointing.

Probably the factor believers tend to be most short-sighted on is that of judgment. Judgment is the correction to align the mystery of covenant to have its full purpose, which Paul noted to the Corinthians indicates that we will one day emerge to judge angels. Jesus stated: “For judgment I have come into the world, that those who do not see may see and those who see may be made blind.” John 9:39

God being righteous and His people being reflectors of His nature; this process over time …. extends to include the judgment of wickedness. Wickedness goes beyond sin and evil-doing.

It is the entrenched rebellion against God that has been manifesting since the time in Genesis 6 of the Nephilim. Wickedness is the outcome from the perverse efforts of the fallen angels to override God’s intention for the pinnacle of His creation in integrating their nature with human nature. Wickedness is what results when sin and evil-doing go unchecked.

Wickedness is the age-old divine conflict, the source of anti-Semitism and the expulsions and holocausts against God’s people that have manifested over the course of history. Before there can be complete restoration, there will be the judgment of the wicked.

Pop-culture’s spin on segments of Scripture describing the birth-pangs of season-changes, such as in Matthew 24, has resulted in abbreviated views …. such that the judgment of wickedness is to be a dire time of bare survival experienced by God’s elect. Yet, Malachi projects such times as being when God will distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.

While the study of end-times is highly controversial, accurately unfolding the mysteries should be approached with caution and humility …. requiring a bedrock cost to know the Lord and His ways, realizing our inability to get more than a progressive unfolding of the glimmers of these higher ways. Isaiah, who was not hesitant in describing that even when encroaching darkness comes, that the light of God’s people will shine even brighter ….. resulting in them “going out in joy and being led forth in peace.” Isa 55

Do Not Despise Small Beginnings
So, we’re talking about the filters needed for God’s people to get an accurate glimpse of reality, of the unfolding events around them. Aside from a balanced foundation of God’s ways and priorities through Spirit and Truth, grasping reality involves what has come to be described as the Issachar context: an understanding of the times, to know what to do.

As a young believer, one of my two very spiritually-seasoned mentors gave me wisdom on this factor of responding to reality. He explained that if we can get the door opened sufficiently …. through the veil separating the natural and spiritual worlds …. to get a glimpse, it will be enough. It underscores the importance of what may seem as small-things, in the glimmers we get from on-High. Throughout the history of God’s people, more often than not, it has been the simple things that have confounded the wise.

There is enough of a glimpse of understanding the times and the chaos and anarchy now happening on a global scale against God’s people to conclude that Israel and the Jewish people are the pivot points in terms of God’s priorities. It bears on those whose identities are in God, taking a stand against the forces of anti-Semitism.

Very close to this priority of His heart is that of the plight of persecuted believers.

Aligned with these realities is the importance of the unfolding strategy that is mobilizing the marketplace, impacting the emerging economic structures and opportunity. It is the assignments of those prepared as modern-day Josephs and Daniels.

Within context, these priorities each bear on the restoration underway and the shift from the influence of spiritual institutions into movements.

The Response to Change and a War-Time Mind-Set
A realistic grasp of the quantum change now underway should trigger the need to embrace a war-time mind-set.

We know from the Centurion Jesus met, that this doesn’t mean belligerence, but rather the identity, authority and planning mind-set of a warrior-leader with the faith that accounts for being a game-changer.

A war-time mind-set results in an alertness and foresight to the signs and a constant preparedness and readiness. That includes understanding the realities of the spiritual atmosphere ….. which can make you a target … as the gloves have been taken off by the practitioners of wickedness.

During my recent visit to Israel I went to the Gaza border, to the site of the October 7, 2023 massacre. The reality of the loss, the rise in the global anti-Semitic response and the looming threat have caused a shift spiritually across the Jewish population. Soldiers carry Bibles and are reading them. Many are asking spiritual questions.

The October 7th Massacre was pure wickedness, reflecting a death cult whose practitioners delighted in the merciless torture and slaughter of innocent, unarmed women, children and elderly, as well as all others …. going from one bordering kibbutz to another, hunting down unsuspecting, innocent victims …. with gleeful Gazan civilians following the murderers to ravage the possessions of the victims.

The utter travesty of the October 7th event is only superseded by the world’s response; shaped and activated by propaganda whose source could only have been the pit of hell. Distortions of reality which side with victimizers over victims, attackers over defenders …. promoting lies over truth. All of which is requiring a reality check and mobilized responses on many levels.

The call for a reality check for those with eyes to see and ears to hear is not an option. It bears a foundation that recognizes that this day was planned and took place without repentance or remorse …. or with any hesitation in doing it again. The age-old theme is the destruction of God’s covenant people.

It is a theme that has happened against God’s people in other parts of the world, that propaganda wars exploiting the information systems …. have ignored or convinced far too many among the righteous to simply sweep under the rug in response. Shall we call that response as it is: without judging the wicked, it ignores responsibility. Of course, the justification is in the “name” of peace.

There’s nothing new under the sun. During the advance of Hitler’s unprovoked conquests, there was the “appeasement crowd” …. voices of the elite and people of influence, one’s whose response to the realities was shaped by the trapping of not being directly impacted …. and wanting to keep it that way. Indeed, nothing new under the sun.

Responding to Underlying Strategies
The rampant secularization of values and morality is Replacement Theology in its highest form. It begs the issue of the vital nature of the spiritual response of God’s people.

The level at which wickedness and secularization operate is a strategic alliance …. between Babylon and Chaldea …. that gives power to both the link between them and the process that results.

On the other hand, scripture has examples of righteous alliances, that despite differences had common ground and faith in their foundations. The Gibeonites are one example. Jesus indeed stated that (Mark 9:40 and Luke 9:50) “he who is not against us is for us.” Such has been the case with the voices emerging in the movements based on shared values. We need to embrace and capitalize on the potential of such strategic alliances.

The need is to not be silent. The need is in exposing the reality of the hidden undercurrents of anarchy, hate and death …. that have Israel, the Jews, but also Christians and Western Civilization in its cross-hairs. The parallel of when Jesus labeled the Pharisees as being blind guides is startling …. ones with the influence who should have been voices, but who were seduced by the trappings and comforts of prominence and power …. coddling up to and cooperating with the aggressors …. actually becoming a part of the threat to their way of life.

So when the season changes, as Jesus described in Matthew 24, the role of the righteous is in supporting and upholding what God is birthing …. while not being silent concerning the realities that call black white and white black …. of recognizing the potential of being reflectors of His Presence …. and of the sensitivity and resolve in tangibly standing in prayer against the darkness.

Taking a Stand Against Wickedness
So, judging wickedness and the voices of wickedness is not optional. It is vital in the process of the push-back gleaned by John on Patmos. Not to be approached recklessly, it requires honor and maturity in its execution. That means consistent consecration. It also needs to be unified. Wickedness is entrenched and cruel. It incorporates a fierce stand against the Lord and His people. It is consistently evidenced with manifestations of hate, anarchy and chaos. It tears down rather than building. It is a cult that draws its power from death. It operates far beyond that sin and evil-doing. God loves the sinner but judges the wicked.

So it is that honor must be employed in the execution of judgment. Honor is a higher standard that when demonstrated is typically beyond self. It is a response of esteem, respect and reverence for God and others, especially brethren and the personal and societal standards that are bedrock to faith and community. It is the converse of the spirit of wickedness.

Honor is the overflow when virtues such as love, humility and faith are in evidence. Despite the level of evil-doing that Saul digressed into, when given the opportunity to put a stop in his attempts to kill David, David responded with honor, refusing to touch God’s anointed. It bears a fine-line distinction in the conflict between darkness and Light, but an important one tied to being instruments of God’s purpose, reflectors of His radiance and nature.

Jesus was astounded at the Centurion’s grasp of the dynamics of faith. This was a man whose combat experience and leadership gave him an intimate grasp of the realities between Life and death …. yet who extended honor to both his ailing servant and to Jesus in his request for Jesus’ authority that he recognized would heal his servant.

Judging wickedness begins with mobilized intercession. Jesus sent His disciples out two by two …. with the authority commensurate with the assignment. There is exponential authority where two or more are gathered in His Name.

God activated Jeremiah’s authority to confront the wickedness of that hour with: “You are My battle axe and weapon of war. Through you I will break nations in pieces. Through you I will destroy kingdoms and strongholds.” (Jer 51:20) Yet, with Jeremiah’s mantle made clear, the Lord revealed His parallel judgment: “And I will repay Babylon and Chaldea.” (v 24). Employing God’s authority begins and ends with embracing the Holy Spirit’s Presence.

Knowing what to do taps a right response to the spiritual atmosphere. In longing for God’s intervention, like the mandate to Jeremiah, it follows a role that begins with the righteous.

David, knowing the difference between judging the wicked and touching God’s anointed, was not hesitant in employing his part of the process in both crying out to the Lord and in battle. As it was with David and the great cloud of witnesses describing our predecessors, so it will be with our steps of completion.

Let us join with David as he cried out to the Lord (Ps 83:1-5; 13-18) “Oh God, do not remain silent and do not be still. For behold, Your enemies make an uproar, and those who hate You have exalted themselves. They make shrewd plans against Your people and conspire together against Your treasured ones. They have said, ‘Come and let us wipe them out, that the name of Israel be remembered no more.’ For they have conspired together with one mind; against You they make a covenant. Oh my God, make them like the whirling dust. Like fire that burns the forest, so pursue them with Your tempest and terrify them with Your storm. Fill their faces with dishonor, that they may know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, are the Most High over all the earth .”
