Israel condemns UNESCO vote

Israeli politicians from across the political spectrum slam 'anti-Semitic' UNESCO vote denying Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem.

Israeli leaders from across the political spectrum slammed the UNESCO vote to deny Israel's right to sovereignty over its capital city of Jerusalem Tuesday.
Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said that fewer nations supported Tuesday's resolution than had supported similar anti-Israel UNESCO resolutions last year.

“Over the last two days I’ve had numerous conversations with various heads of state and foreign ministers about the absurd vote at the UN. The result is that a number of countries that support this absurd proposal is shrinking,” he says. “A year ago it was 32, six months ago it dropped to 26, and now its down to 22 countries,” Netanyahu said.

“I still want to make a systematic and consistent effort to reduce this even further, because these kinds of votes have no place at the UN,” Netanyahu added.

“Today there are more countries that support Israel or abstain than countries that oppose Israel,” he adds. “Its a change, for the first time.”

Opposition leader Yizthak Herzog called the resolution anti-Semitic.

“This [UNESCO resolution] is an anti-Semitic and anti-Israel disgrace that distorts the history of the Jewish people and their unshakable connection to their capital, Jerusalem,” Herzog said.

“This is a miserable, baseless and aggressive decision that will find itself in the garbage can of history, just like the accusation that Zionism is racism," Herzog added.

Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely said: “UNESCO’s expected political decision only harms the organization — which is supposed to preserve heritage and culture — by repeatedly misusing its role when it comes to Israel.”

“Israel does not need approvals from political bodies to connect the unshakable historical connection to our eternal capital, a connection that is over 3,000 years old and cries out from each and every stone in this city," she added.

Israeli President Reuvin Rivlin told foreign ambassadors gathered at his residence to celebrate Israel's Independence Day that their governments should respond to the resolution by recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moving their embassies there.

“It is time to put an end to the absurd. It is time to recognize Jerusalem, as the official capital of the State of Israel. De facto, not just de jure. It is time to move all the official embassies here, to Jerusalem,” Rivlin said.

22 nations voted to pass the resolution declaring that Israel's sovereignty over Jerusalem is null and void. 10 nations opposed the resolution while 23 nations abstained.

Trump Camp Boasts of Most Pro-Israel Platform Ever - Israel Today

Trump Camp Boasts of Most Pro-Israel Platform Ever

Monday, September 26, 2016 |  Israel Today Staff
US presidential candidate Donald Trump not only views Jerusalem as the eternal capital of Israel, but will fight to keep Jews “eternally” in Judea and Samaria, too, if he wins the White House.
That was the pledge made recently by Trump’s aid on Israel affairs, David Friedman, during a meeting with Israeli officials from the Samaria Regional Council.
Trump’s “Republican platform on Israel is the strongest that either party has ever developed in the history of this country,” Friedman insisted in remarks that were recorded and uploaded to the Internet.
To prove his point, Friedman noted that in addition to echoing past presidential candidates in verbally recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s undivided capital, Trump’s platform refuses to refer to the Jewish presence in the so-called “West Bank” as an “occupation” and does away entirely with the notion of a two-state solution.
Trump met on Sunday with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in New York, where he promised that as president he would go beyond words and finally move the US Embassy to Jerusalem.
Trump was also reportedly keen to discuss with Netanyahu Israel’s advanced border fences, which he sees as a model for his controversial Mexico border plans.
Netanyahu later met with Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, who vowed that as president she would vigorously enforce the Iran nuclear deal, an agreement that Israeli leaders see as fundamentally flawed.

When Bibi Disturbed Everyone's Dinner - Israel Today

When Bibi Disturbed Everyone's Dinner

Thursday, September 22, 2016 |  Israel Today Staff
Patrons of the upscale New York City restaurant Harry Cipriani had their evening out rudely disturbed when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in town for the UN General Assembly, decided to dine there with his wife, Sarah, on Tuesday.
A number of other celebrities were at the restaurant at the time. An eyewitness told Page Six that 20 agents from the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) arrived before Netanyahu to secure the premises and take up positions around the restaurant. The Israeli leader arrived shortly after with an additional 20 bodyguards.
Harry Cipriani only seats about 100 people.
Those who witnessed the affair were somewhat bemused by the fact that 20 bodyguards accompanied Netanyahu to the bathroom midway through his meal.
Less amusing was how the Israeli agents took control of the restaurant and the hotel in which it is located, subjecting all who entered to pat-downs and metal detectors.
“He must be the most protected man in the world right now,” one eyewitness told Page Six.

Here is a head of state, a world leader and a patriot, making a simple yet profound statement of solidarity, support and determination. Unlike Obama, he doesn’t seize the tragedy to advance an anti-gun agenda or blame the opposition party. He simply acts like a leader, a statesman, and a humble human being who doesn’t need to bluster, lie, or thump his chest. He gives us all hope for a better future.

“All of us are targets.
We believe that all people are created in the image of God.
ISIS, by contrast, believes that all people who aren’t just like them deserve to die.
We will not be terrified into submission.
We will fight back. And we will triumph.
I have no doubt that those who seek to spread hate and fear will be defeated.
Working together we will defeat them even faster.
We need to stand united, resolute in the belief that all people regardless of their sexual orientation, regardless of their race, regardless of their ethnicity, all people deserve respect, deserve dignity.”
