Steve Martin - Arms of Love Video Message - "Feasts of the Lord"

"Feasts of the Lord"
Steve Martin - Arms of Love Video Message
Sept. 28, 2017

Greetings from Charlotte, North Carolina!

In this special message I am speaking on the biblical feasts of the Lord, that the Jews have faithfully celebrated each year through the centuries. These are annual days that the Lord Himself has given to believers to share along with them.

Yeshua has fulfilled the spring feasts prophetically and will come back again to fulfill the fall feasts in the days to come.

I am thankful to have been taught the significance of the biblical feasts and hope to give you fuller understanding also.

Shalom and ahava (peace and love in Hebrew).

V’ahavta וְאָהַבְתָּ 'And you shall love’ - "An Appointment with God" - Hadassah from Jerusalem

V’ahavta
וְאָהַבְתָּ    ‘And you shall love’
An Appointment with God
Hadassah from Jerusalem

The High Holy Days are upon us. Here in the Land there was much activity as we prepared for the first of these - Rosh Hashanah or Yom Teruah. Of course there is always the menu planning and eternal grocery shopping. Lots of lovely celebration foods packed with memories and.... calories! New clothing for the New Year. Clean houses for a fresh start.

But in the midst of all the hustle and bustle what may be difficult to maintain is the main reasons for this season - not only of celebration but more appropriately the 3 ‘Rs’ - Reflection, Repentance, and Restoration.

This past month, the shofar has been sounded every weekday morning in the shul. For those who have ears to hear, it is sounding to wake us up. The day is approaching when we will be called to make an assessment of our deeds this past year. How did we spend our time? On what did we spend our money? What words did we speak? Those that build or those that tear down? Do we hold hurts, bitterness, and unforgiveness? Even though the general thought or feeling is one of celebration, this is actually a somber time of year as we approach the throne of the King to be called into account.

We do not need to be afraid or enter this time with trepidation. If God has instituted these Holy days, He has done so because He is making Himself accessible. In essence, He has a calendar and your name is written on these coming days. You have, as it were, an appointment with God.

As we participate with Him in His moedim (appointed days) He has made the way for true repentance, cleansing and rebuilding of relationships - first with Him, and then with those around us. We trust Him in this that He will be faithful to meet us on Yom Teruah. He will show us those we have offended and give us the courage to make things right - to say 'I'm sorry'. He will remind us of vows not kept and give us the wisdom to keep the vows and to be careful about making future vows. He will prepare us for a life of fruitfulness and beauty with Him as our Guide.

As we are looking ahead, we are in hopes for an even more significant coming year filled with mitzvot (acts of loving-kindness) and a greater reality of the presence of the Living God and the Day in which we are living. We look forward, with joy, to the season ahead and are grateful to our God for providing a beautiful way to be in relationship with Him and each other.

Our wish for you, dear readers: May you be written for a wonderful year full of Life!

Nissim & Hadassah
Jerusalem, Israel

Hadassah and Nissim, her accountant husband, live in a settlement just outside Jerusalem with their dog Molly. After making Aliyah (immigrating) from the U.S. with their five children in 1989, they are now semi-retired and open their home to guests and those wishing to make Aliyah. When not busy with their 16 'GrandWonders', they enjoy a quiet life of study, prayer and learning to serve the LORD.

You Won't Believe What Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church Is Doing Now

Join us on our podcast each weekday for an interesting story, well told, from Charisma News. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

Houston's massive Lakewood Church will host a significant portion of the Jewish community for their High Holy Days, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Joel Osteen and his church, which meets in the former Compaq Center, volunteered to host the Congregation Beth Yeshurun after its Meyerland, Texas, facility sustained water damage from Hurricane Harvey.
Lakewood learned of the need when U.S. Rep. John Culberson asked the church to consider providing space for Beth Yeshurun during this important season.
"My immediate response was, 'Of course,'" says Jackelyn Viera Iloff, senior advisor at Lakewood Church/Joel Osteen Ministries. "It was a wonderful opportunity for us to do something for Beth Yeshurun. We have always been close friends with the Jewish community, and we have a wonderful relationship with Denis Braham [senior advisory board member of Beth Yeshurun]. We are honored they would consider us to replace their facilities for the special holiday coming up."
Lakewood is also making church volunteers available for the High Holy Days gatherings.
"Joel and Victoria want to ensure that our sanctuary is as comfortable and familiar as possible for the Beth Yeshurun congregation," Iloff says. "The Lakewood family—staff and volunteers alike—are very excited about this and are looking forward to the High Holy services. Everyone wants to help and be a part of it."
Iloff says Lakewood believes bringing another congregation onto its campus is "doable."
"Details were relatively easy to iron out because we have a team in place," she says.
After Hurricane Harvey passed through the area in late August, Lakewood "sheltered about 450 Houstonians at one time," Iloff says. "Now all of our shelter guests have moved on to other accommodations. As our guests transitioned, we worked with the city and county to help those needing long-term shelter and housing assistance."

Iloff expects future opportunities to open up for the church to interact with the Jewish community as a result of assisting Congregation Beth Yeshurun, led by Rabbi David Rosen.
"I cannot thank Joel Osteen enough for his sensitivity and his encouragement," said Rosen in a KHOU report. "It's a reaffirmation of the beautiful spirit of collegiality and interfaith conversation we have here in Houston."

Iloff noted that the Osteen family has "a great love for Israel and a heart for the Jewish people."
"We interact quite a bit with members of the Jewish community already," she says. "In fact, we are glad that they felt comfortable enough to approach us in the first place. They know that our hearts and our arms are always open to our Jewish brothers and sisters."
Congregation Beth Yeshurun practices Conservative Judaism and serves more than 2,000 families in the Houston area.

From the Ingathering to the Redemption ✡ "The Land That I Will Show You" - Israel365

Go forth from your native land and from your father’s house to the land that I will show you.

lekh l’-KHA may-ar-tz’-KHA u-mi-mo-lad-t’-KHA u-mi-BAYT a-VEE-kha el ha-A-retza-SHER ar-E-ka

Today's Israel Inspiration

With the words lech l’cha (לך לך), literally "Go for yourself," Avraham is commanded to leave everything behind and head to the Holy Land. It would have been enough for God to command him lech (לך), "go." What is added by the word l’cha (לך)?  According to the well-known Biblical commentator Rashi, the word l’cha implies that the travel was for Avraham’s benefit. Though he is leaving his homeland, family, and father’s house, God promises Avraham that the journey will be beneficial to him.  These words kick off the unbreakable relationship between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel. The Yeshiva for the Nations is offering an online course by historian and author Shimon Apisdorf entitled, "The Role of the Land of Israel Throughout Jewish History." This class examines the critical role Israel has played in the history of the Jewish people from the time of the Bible until the present. It also examines the concept of the in-gathering of the exiles and the spiritual meaning behind the return of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel.

The Land of Israel Throughout History

Rabbi Shimon Apisdorf introduces his course on the Role of the Land of Israel throughout History from the period of the matriarchs and patriarchs until contemporary times.

“Jewish People Are in Transition From Ingathering of Exiles to Redemption”

The Jewish people are living in the second stage of redemption, the period of the ingathering of the exiles, believes Jewish historian Rabbi Shimon Apisdorf.

“Israel is always on my heart”

It’s great to hear from you and make new friends from all over the world. Please send me an email and let me know how you are enjoying Israel365 (don’t forget to say where you are from!).

Shalom Rabbi, my name is Rath and I write to you from South Africa. I was in the military and I worked with some of your people and we have remained friends for over 20 years. Israel is always on my heart. I follow day by day your writings and I give thanks for that. I cannot understand our governments attitude to Israel and I let them know that. You are always in my prayers but I know that our God watches over you. HE is still in control. Shalom and God bless.
Shalom,
Rabbi Tuly Weisz
