Return of the Giants: Biblical Story of Goliath Proven True

Return of the Giants: Biblical Story of Goliath Proven True

The return of giants is mentioned in various Jewish teachings as part of the process of redemption. A recent archaeological discovery indicates that Biblical stories of these famed beings are no longer mere myths.
Archaeologists in Israel have uncovered what they believe to be the enormous gates of Gath, the city of Goliath. The story of Goliath the Giant (1 Samuel 17) is a Bible classic with a clear message for young and old. However, equally important and less studied, is the role of Goliath and the Philistines as the physical and ideological enemies of David and the Messianic dynasty.
A Bar Ilan University team of archaeologists estimate that the remains of the ancient Philistine city dates back to the 10th century BCE. Two inscriptions discovered at the site ad names similar to Goliath, giving more weight to their theory. The modern site, known today as Tell es-Safi, has been occupied almost continuously for nearly 5,000 years and is the focus of continuous archaeological excavations since 1899. Until now, it was not known that its iron-age remains were so extensive.
“We knew that Philistine Gath in the tenth to ninth century (BCE) was a large city, perhaps the largest in the land at that time,” excavation leader Professor Aren Maeir told Live Science. “These monumental fortifications stress how large and mighty this city was.”

Most scholars believe that Gath was besieged and laid to waste by Hazael, King of Aram Damascus, in 830 B.C., Maeir said.
The newly discovered gate is being hailed as one of the largest of its kind ever found. The gate is part of enormous and extensive fortifications, indicating the importance of the city. Archaeologists also found ironworks and a Philistine temple near the monumental gate, with some pottery. Examination of the pottery revealed both Philistine and Israelite influences, indicating there was more interaction between the two cultures than previously thought.
“This mirrors the intense and multifaceted connections that existed between the Philistines and their neighbors,” Maeir said.
As if the discovery of the giant gate wasn’t enough, archaeologists also found indications of a catastrophic earthquake in the 8th century BCE, in what the team says could be the disaster mentioned in the Book of Amos.

"Defeating the Giants with Everlast" Dutch Sheets

"Defeating the Giants with Everlast"
Dutch Sheets, Dallas, TX
The Elijah List

"The year was 2007. I was a boxer in a fighting ring, facing five giants, in five rounds. Alternating fists, I knocked out one giant per round with just one blow to each opponent. When I finished taking out the giants, I raised my fists and said, 'If you are going to take out the giants in this season, you are going to have to wear these two gloves.' On one glove was written the word 'Everlast;' on the other glove, 'Evergreen.'"

What I just described is obviously not a real-life scenario, but rather a dream given by God to my friend, Thomas Hall. I am extremely grateful to the Lord for this dream, as it holds great significance for our country – and for me, personally. In it, the Holy Spirit gives us keys that are essential for restoring America's destiny.

Olam-El

Although "Everlast" is the brand name seen on the fight gloves most boxers wear, I knew immediately that it's meaning in Thomas' dream went far beyond a brand of sporting equipment. At the time, I had been studying the life of Abraham. Upon hearing of "Everlast" in the dream, I remembered Genesis 21:33, which says Abraham "called on Olam El," the Everlasting God. (Photo via Wikimedia Commons)

El means strong and mighty God. Olam is a bit more challenging to define. One lexicon says it is the most distant time in both directions. This definition falls short, however, as God is not limited by time. Olam existed before Genesis and extends beyond the farthest point into the future. He is the Ancient of Days, the God of Ages, who sits enthroned above the timeline of history and rules over the destinies of people and nations (see Daniel 7:9, 13).

Seeing the past, present, and future simultaneously, Olam perceives the results of an action long before it happens and knows how to deal with the ramifications of events that have occurred in the past. In His faithfulness, Olam uses this unique perspective to redeem and restore people and purposes.

Abraham's Journey

Before Abraham arrived at the point where he called upon Olam El, his walk of faith included many twists and turns. Although Hebrews 11 and Romans 4 refer to Abraham as a great man of faith, he made some pretty big mistakes during his journey with God. On two occasions, powerful kings wanted to marry Sarah; in selfish attempts to spare his life at their hands, Abraham lied, claiming she was his sister (see Genesis 12 and 20). Thankfully, God intervened and rescued Sarah each time.

Also, throughout their 25-year wait for Isaac, Abraham and Sarah repeatedly wavered in their faith; they actually produced a child through Sarah's maid, Hagar, trying to attain God's promise by their own faithless efforts. In His mercy and faithfulness to covenant, however, the Lord overcame all of their failures and kept their destiny intact.
When Abraham called upon Olam El in Genesis 21:33, he and Sarah had finally received their promised son, Isaac – even though they were 100 and 90 years old! Miraculously, they were also enjoying great favor with one of the kings Abraham had previously deceived concerning Sarah (see Genesis 21). Abraham was proclaiming that, "despite my double-minded waywardness and covenant breaking, God's faithfulness is unchanging and His purposes stand firm forever.

In spite of my deceit and unbelief, God has proven Himself faithful to His Word and used every circumstance to grow my faith," (see Romans 4:20). Abraham eventually became known as the "father of many nations," "father of the faith," and "friend of God" (see Romans 4:16, 18; James 2:23).

Olam is stronger than our weaknesses and bigger than the breaches we create along the timeline of history. And just as He did for Abraham and Sarah – cleaning up their messes and resetting them on the path toward His purposes – Olam still reaches back in time to redeem and restore people, so that when the time is right, His purposes are fulfilled.

Olam sees us through the lens of the great destiny He's ordained for us, and goes about healing our past and correcting our course, so He can prove Himself faithful to His promises.

It's Not Too Late For America

Some contend that America has fallen so deeply into sin, evil, and injustice that God can't send revival and restore her destiny. But when I remember Abraham, reflecting upon the name Olam El, I am filled with great hope for our nation. The same God who redirected, redeemed, and "re-lifed" him, longs to do the same for America. We were birthed out of a dream in the heart of Olam El – to be a light to the nations – and He still desires to see that dream fulfilled.

America can certainly defeat the giants of our day and once again be that shining city on a hill and a light to the nations – but not in our own might. Nor will we win because we deserve it. America will experience revival when in humble surrender and repentance a remnant of Believers call out to Olam El, the Everlasting God. He can apply the Blood of Jesus to the mistakes of our past, heal the broken places, and release blessings upon us once again.(Photo via Pixabay)

The significance of the "Everlast" glove in Thomas' dream was apparent to me back in 2007. In the meantime, reflect upon Olam El, the Everlasting God. If you sense you've stepped out of alignment with His purposes for your life, call upon Him, and thank Him for being ever faithful to restore you.

Land of the Giants by Elaine Tavolacci

Land of the Giants

by Elaine Tavolacci

Identity Network

There is a story in the book of Numbers when the Lord told Moses to send twelve men, one from each of the twelve tribes of Israel to spy out the land of Canaan, which is also known as the Promised Land. Ten out of the twelve spies came back with a bad report because they had seen the giants in the land. These are the same men who had experienced great miracles when the Lord recently gave them a cloud by day, a fire by night, manna from heaven, and He miraculously provided for them for forty years in the wilderness.

He also parted the Red Sea for them and six million of them walked through the sea on dry ground while He destroyed their enemies. When they went into Canaan to spy out the land, they were looking at the giants rather than remembering all that the Lord had done for them. They returned to Moses with a cluster of grapes that was so huge, that it took two men to carry, but they also returned with a bad report saying that the land surely does flow with milk and honey but the giants are too large for us to conquer. They also said, "We were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."
The Lord is showing me that many of you are facing giants in your lives and you see yourself as grasshoppers rather than conquerors. You recognize that the land ahead of you is flowing with milk and honey, but your focus is on the giants. Jesus gave you a promise but you are not trusting Him for the provision. Many of you are standing on the brink of Canaan and Jesus has done so much in your life but now you are afraid to pursue His plans because you came up against some giants.

No matter how impossible your situation looks, your future destination is not determined by your present situation. For some of you it is sickness. You may have even been diagnosed with an incurable disease in the natural, but we serve a God of the supernatural. For some of you it is financial difficulties and for others it is family situations. Two of the twelve spies Joshua and Caleb didn't deny that there were giants in the land, but they came back with a different report. They said, "Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it."

The Lord said in Numbers 14: 24 But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it. As Spirit fill believers, we are not limited to our senses, by our physical conditions or by our present situations, but we could stand on Gods promises. Fear looks at the giants, but faith looks at the promises.
You are not Inadequate
The Lord is saying not to allow the enemy to magnify the situations in your life, and don't look at the giants as unconquerable. Do not see yourself as inadequate but know that with Jesus you are able to take on any assignment that He has called you to. Go forth as Joshua and Caleb knowing that you are well able to possess this land. Go forth in what He has commissioned you to do. Never forget that that as a believer, through Jesus you have a better covenant, which was established on better promises.
Numbers 13:27-33 Then they told him, and said: "We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan." Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, "Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it."

But the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we." And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."
Numbers 13:33 There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.
Numbers 13:30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

Bill Yount - Favored To Live

Favored To Live

Posted: 31 Dec 2013 10:44 AM PST
Dear friends,

I am honored to be a regular author now on Spirit Fuel. The Spirit Fuel network is a Christian content network with the genre niche of the supernatural. The website address is: http://www.SpiritFuel.me

I faced my terror by night. It was afraid of me. And the arrow that flies by day. It missed me. You may wonder what my terror and arrow was. Just terror and an arrow. That’s all it was. ( Psalm 91:5 )

Jesus’ birth takes place at night. ( Silent Night, Holy Night ) The darkest night in history, filled with terror. It moved satan to kill every two year old boy and younger in Bethlehem. He dreads heaven coming to earth. But the Father whispers, “Can’t touch Him!” As believers satan targets us also. If it’s the darkest time in your life, be encouraged. Jesus is about to show up. I find Him in my darkest moments. That’s when I’ve gotten to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings. Fear not, He will come and save you.

In a recent movie the lead actor battled untold suffering and terror. The end was a bloody finish. Her youthful, battered body laid lifeless, turning the theatre into a morgue. After what seemed an eternity, her eyes popped open and she lived. I found out later she was favored to live through her ordeals so she could star in the next movie series. Looking back over my life, I can relate to this. Yes, I have survived everything so far and am an overcomer. God has favored me to live through the hardest times. You too. He has another series of our life to be lived.

Our times are in His hands. ( Psalm 31:15 )

Walking On Giants

In Charleston, South Carolina, a little boy about four years old walked over, looked up at me and said, “You are little!” I said to the pastor standing beside me, “What did he say?” The pastor said, “It sounds like he said, “You are little!” It made the boy feel good since he was so short. But it humbled me. It made me think. We should look at our biggest giant or mountain and say, “You are little! You are little compared to the God inside of me!” It will humble any mountain or giant to fall. What mountain or giant will the Lord raise you up to stand on top of this coming year? What stormy seas will He cause you to walk on?

On the sea of Galilee, famous for storms, I asked the Lord a question. “Lord, are we near the place where Peter got out of the boat and walked on the raging sea before he fell?” The Lord answered me. “What do you mean Peter fell? This is the sea where Peter walked!” As though He didn’t remember Peter falling. Peter sank but he walked on water. The eleven sat in the boat living in regret. The terror of that storm paralyzed them. They missed that once in a lifetime opportunity. Sinking is better than sitting. When life is over we won’t regret taking a risk for God and sinking. We will regret sitting. And God won’t remember us sinking.

The Stage Is Being Set

When it looks like it’s impossible for me to win, God is setting the stage for something greater. For many the stage is just being set. The curtains have not yet been cracked open. God is still moving behind the scenes to place us front and center. That’s why we haven’t been heard from yet. Isn’t it the stories in the Bible of the people who looked like they would never make it, that builds our faith the most? The Lord writes their heroic exploits beginning with them knowing the agony of defeat. Silent nights of terror with trouble becoming their friend. No hope of ever fulfilling their purpose. Be encouraged. God is not through writing your story.

Blessings,

Bill Yount
