Although the Torah is relatively progressive in its attitude towards women as compared to the surrounding cultures of the time it describes (think Deborah the Judge), there aren’t many female characters in leading roles in the text. Yet here, the women who raised Moses are noted, and later in Moses’s genealogy, three women are described: Moses’s mother, Jochebed, Aaron’s wife, Elisheba, and Aaron’s daughter-in-law, whose name is not given. Why do you think these women in particular are included? What is their significance in Moses’ life? Get the answer in the new Israel Bible Reading Plan, with an exciting curriculum, personal attention, and question-answer forum.

Dear Rabbi, I was first sent your email during Shabbat for those who survived the Holocaust, I am now a subscriber and enjoy reading about my brothers and sisters in Israel and the beauty of the Holy Land. May the Father continue to Bless Israel and His people. Thank you for your good work. Patricia Brown, North York, Ontario, Canada
May you all have a blessed and tranquil Shabbat and may there be nothing but Peace and Calm in Jerusalem and all Israel from now on.. I really love this website and eagerly await my morning email, which I try and open at school as invariably, there is something I can always show my students, usually the beautiful pics of Israel. -Ilona |
