Israel Seals Off Gaza Strip Amid Fresh Violence
Wednesday, September 05, 2018 | Israel Today Staff
Just nine days after Gaza's Erez border crossing was reopened it has again been sealed following a renewal of violent Palestinian riots along the coastal enclave's security fence.
On Tuesday, hundreds of Palestinians gathered at the fence to throw stones at the crossing terminal and the Israeli soldiers manning it.
An Israeli army spokesman said the Erez crossing would remain closed until all the damage caused this week could be repaired. He stressed, however, that Israel would continue to allow the passage of humanitarian goods and people in need of emergency medical attention.
The Erez crossing is the only Gaza border crossing into Israel for pedestrians. The Kerem Shalom and Karni crossings are for the transportation of goods only.
