Strong opinions and deep emotions have been aired from every direction in the wake of the Bondi Beach massacre, but a surprising hashtag trend on the matter has come out of Iran.
Many Iranians have been expressing their solidarity with the Jewish people yet again, with multiple posts featuring the illegal #IraniansStandWithIsrael hashtag, banned by the IRCG.
According to Sky News, the Iranian regime banned use of the hashtag in April last year, with The Revolutionary Guards Intelligence Organization warning it would be treated as a criminal offense.
"[The] actions of the [Israeli] regime have hurt the feelings of the great nation of Iran," the notice stated, urging Iranians to report the use of the hashtag to the IRCG: "If you see any activity in support of the fake Israeli government in cyberspace, to send the information and specifications of the mentioned pages and their operators." The message continued, "It should be noted that according to Articles 6, 7 and 8 of the Law on Countering the Zionist Regime's Hostile Actions against Peace and Security, the perpetrators will be dealt with decisively."
Additional and similar hashtags including #IraniansStandWithJews have also appeared, along with messages of sympathy and support for the Jewish community. There is a huge groundswell of support for Israel in Iran, and anger towards the regime.
This support is often expressed by brave Iranian activists defiantly standing for Israel in the midst of pro-Palestinian marches in the West, but also speaking out on social media.
The Jerusalem Post highlighted several posts on 饾晱, such as one that declared, “Light triumphs over darkness, and the hearts of we Iranians across the world are with you, my Jewish friend,” together with a picture of two women dressed in the Israeli and Iranian flags.
Another wrote, “This regime is the root cause of global terror and instability,” while others called for Israel to defeat the Regime and usher in the Cyrus Accords – a proposed peace plan similar to the Abraham Accords.
Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi also condemned the attacks on the platform and pointed the finger squarely at the Islamic Regime, thought by many to have been behind yesterday’s deadly attack.
“Regrettably, this is far from the first and it will not be the last such targeted murder as long as the forces of radical Islamism are appeased,” Reza Pahlavi, the exiled Shah wrote. “For 46 years, the people of Iran have been far too familiar with this hatred and violence and they stand in solidarity with its victims. I express my sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the people of Australia."
Suspicions that the Iranian regime was involved in planning the attack have been reinforced by other posts on the platform. The son of Mohammad-Hassan Ghadiri Abyaneh, formerly Iran’s ambassador to Australia, wrote that Hanukkah celebrations were a “platform for satanic rituals of Masonic circles” and called for “defense.”
However, other Iranians responded strongly to the antisemitic message, with one person writing, “Every breath of these illegitimate offspring tied to the wretched Islamic Republic regime reeks of blood.”
Another wrote, “Global security means the downfall of this satanic terrorist regime… #IraniansStandWithIsrael,” according to JPost.
Live Iran News, a dissident news outlet, wrote in agreement with Pahlavi’s message:
“For 46 years, Iranians have paid the price of appeasing radical Islamism with blood, terror, and hatred. The very same ideology that fired its shots in Sydney today has taken innocent lives before – in Tehran, Jerusalem, and beyond. The victims of Hanukkah were targeted for no reason other than their faith, just as our people have long been victims of the same organized hatred.”
They continued: “As an Iranian–Israeli monarchist community, we stand with full conviction alongside the grieving families, the Jewish community, and the people of Australia.”
“We say clearly: as long as Islamic extremism is nourished by silence and appeasement, this cycle of evil will not be broken. The path to peace runs through resolve, not retreat,” they said.
