U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee took part in the International Conference on Israeli Heritage in Judea and Samaria on Tuesday, where he delivered remarks that appeared to highlight historical and religious connections between the United States and Israel.

His comments came shortly after remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump during a bilateral meeting with Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in which Trump said: “Without me, there would be no Israel – because no other president was willing to do what I did."

While Huckabee did not directly reference Trump's statement, he emphasized that the heritage being discussed “is your heritage, without a doubt, but it is also the heritage of the United States. Without Israel, without the Jewish foundation, there would not be America. We owe our very existence to what happened in this land."

Huckabee’s comments appeared to diverge from Trump’s framing and could put him at odds with the U.S. president, who has previously removed or sidelined officials who publicly deviate from his positions. However, Huckabee’s statement also remains consistent with the American Evangelical community, which constitutes a significant segment of the MAGA coalition that have backed Trump in since his election in 2016.

Political analysts in Jerusalem noted on Wednesday that a dismissal over these remarks appears unlikely, even if the comments are not fully aligned with Trump’s messaging.
