Shabbat Inspiration The Hebrew word ‘shalosh’ means three. Three indicates a strong unit or bond, as it says in Ecclesiastes (4:12), “A chain of three cannot be undone.” Perhaps for this reason there are three times a year when every Jew is commanded to make a pilgrimage to the Temple in Jerusalem and appear before God. This guarantees that he will re-connect with his Creator at least three times a year, ensuring that the bonds between them remain strong and will not be undone. Sukkot stands out from the other pilgrimage holidays in that its celebration was not limited to Jews. Rather, bull offerings were brought on behalf of all 70 nations of the world during the Feast of Tabernacles.
