A Grandmother's Heartbroken Plea to Hollywood - CAROL MCLEOD CHARISMA NEWS

A Spirit-Filled Grandmother's Heartbroken Plea to Hollywood

CAROL MCLEOD  CHARISMA NEWS
Dear Hollywood, the Entertainment Industry and Video Game Producers,
I am writing this letter to every producer and director in Hollywood. I am writing this letter to every writer, to every actor and to every actress.
I am writing this missive to TV show producers, to directors and to writers.
I am writing this plea to the gaming industry.
I am writing this humble but passionate request to the sponsors who pay for movies, television shows and games.
Please listen; please read; and please respond.
As a mother, as a grandmother, and as a woman who loves America deeply, my heart is broken by the shootings that happened last week in Parkland, Florida. 17 vibrant and hopeful people lost their lives when a gunman opened fire in their own high school. Teachers were gunned down. Scholars were assassinated. Future leaders were violently killed in America.
I know that this ugly problem is multi-faceted and that there are no "easy" answers; however, I do believe that there are answers that can prevent a mass shooting such as this from happening again.
I have to believe it. I must.
I happen to believe that the true answers America is searching for will never be found in a political candidate.
And believe me, America does need some answers. America desperately needs answers that will never come from an editorial, from Congress or from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Some of the answers to this very confusing and devastating problem are found in the solutions that the mental health community can offer and some can be discovered in the security that needs to be addressed in our public school system.
The breakdown of the family has contributed greatly to this horrific dilemma and then there are the politicians who should humbly but personally take responsibility as well.
Every congressman, every senator and every member of the president's White House staff should visit the grieving parents of these beloved children and hear their pain.
The answers are vast, the questions are numerous, and the blame enormous.
However, as the producers, directors, writers, actors and actresses who create movies—you are not without blame!
America has raised an entire generation of young people in a culture that has taught that when you have a problem, a gun will solve it.
Your movies have sent the message that if you don't like the hand you have been dealt in life, well then, just shoot somebody!
We have modeled by the scripts, by the themes and by the visual images of television series and of award-winning movies that violence is an acceptable and even applauded lifestyle.
Hollywood—stop it! Just stop it!
Take responsibility, all of you in the entertainment industry, and change your message.
Change your message before one more innocent young person is murdered.
Hollywood—directors, producers, actors, actresses, writers—when you look at your hands today, you may just see a drop of blood or two.
I am appealing to the mothers and fathers who are producers and directors in Hollywood. I ask you to never again make another movie that glorifies violence.
I am appealing to the mothers and to the fathers who are actors and actresses in the film industry and in the television industry. I implore you to refuse scripts that tout guns as the answer.
I am begging cameramen and camerawomen who love children to walk off the sets of violent movies.
I am beseeching screenwriters and television writers who have ever felt the sweet arms of a child around their necks to take every act of gratuitous violence out of every script and re-write it.
I am calling to the gaming industry and asking you to take responsibility. Lives are more valuable than money. Stop creating games that recreate violence.
I am adjuring the sponsors of movies, television shows and the gaming industry to stop the flow of money to visual images and themes of violence.
Stop it. Just stop it!
Nothing will change until we all change.
Will you change, Hollywood? Will you take personal responsibility and choose to send a message of hope and honor rather than embracing themes of violence and bloodshed?
Will you change, gaming industry? Will you choose virtue over vice and meaning over money? Will you?
Every producer who has ever produced a violent movie should attend the funeral of the well-loved Alyssa Alhadeff and the courageous Scott Beigel and the sweet Cara Loughran.
Every director who has ever included an assassination or a murder in a movie scene should humbly attend the funeral of the beloved Martin Duque Anguiano and the scholar and athlete Nicholas Dworet and the bubbly Gina Montalto.
Every writer who has written a script that sent a message that carnage is acceptable should attend the funeral of the basketball player Luke Hoyer, the heroic Aaron Feis and the positive and loving Joaquin Oliver.
Every cameraman and camerawoman who served as an accomplice to a crime splashed across a movie screen or a TV screen should attend the funeral of the beautiful Jaime Guttenberg or the brave Christopher Hixon.
Every member of the gaming industry who has made millions of dollars by promoting violence should attend the funeral of the compassionate Alaina Petty, the angelic Meadow Pollack or the friendly Helena Ramsey.
Every actor or actress who has ever appeared in a movie that glorified violence should attend the funeral of the musical Alexander Schachter, the brilliant Carmen Schentrup or the patriotic Peter Wang.
The pain that these families are bearing is inhuman and devastating. Let's save another family from ever enduring this pain again.
Hollywood—writers, directors, producers, actors, actresses, cameramen, camerawomen, gaming industry—how wonderful to know that you can change the world. You can choose the message you send to a vulnerable world.
I ask you with every cell in my broken heart to reevaluate your motivation and your message. Children's lives are at stake.

6 Traits the Holy Spirit Is Looking for in Men and Women of Honor - CAROL MCLEOD CHARISMA NEWS

6 Traits the Holy Spirit Is Looking for in Men and Women of Honor
Feb. 18, 2018 CAROL MCLEOD  CHARISMA NEWS
One of the attributes that I strongly admire in a person is that of moral excellence or virtue. It challenges me to be a better person when I observe a common man or woman making an uncommon choice that smacks of purity, principle and incorruptibility. There is something inexpressibly valiant when a person chooses virtue over vice, morality over immorality and temperance over imprudence.
Choosing to be a person of virtue has never been an easy choice but it has always been the best choice. A pathway of moral excellence will always lead to a significant life. Always.
Oftentimes, endeavoring to live a life of integrity and even modesty can be a lonely choice and one that is mocked by the culture. However, it is a choice that will reap long-term rewards and garner the applause of heaven.
Do people even know what "virtue" is anymore or has it been thrown aside with other valuable character components such as honesty, integrity and faithfulness? Do people view moral excellence as outdated as horse and buggies, hand-written thank you notes and gas lanterns?
Virtue is the conformity of one's life and conduct to moral and ethical principles. For a believer in Christ, our moral guidebook is the Bible. We must extract all of our character traits from the blueprint found in the Word of God. Unfortunately, sometimes the call of the world is so dastardly loud and relentless that it becomes difficult to remember what the Bible has to say about a certain issue.
Also, in a culture that highly esteems tolerance, it has become increasingly difficult to adhere to those virtues that might seem archaic but in reality, they are vital and powerful.
We have focused on temporary comforts in our society rather than on eternal godliness. We have embraced as our role models athletes, entertainers and media moguls who have lost their moral compass.
I believe that the Holy Spirit is still calling disciples of Jesus Christ to choose to live a life of devotion and of honor. I also believe that the Holy Spirit, in this day and age, is looking for a few good men and a few good women who live by principle rather than by pretense.
Perhaps, as you allow the Holy Spirit to examine your heart today, these following guidelines could steer the course of your life:
1 – I will only tell the truth. I will not lie or exaggerate.
2 – I will only be kind to others.
3 – I will not use vulgarity or profanity.
4 – I will choose not to criticize or condemn others who are made in the image of God.
5 – I will endeavor to live a life that is morally immaculate in thought, word and action.
6 – I will treat others in the same manner that I wish to be treated.
The call of God is never outdated, never out of style and never old-fashioned. God's ways are eternal and are relevant in every generation and in every moment in history. Father really does know best, and his desire is for His children to live an abundant life!  Choosing to life a lifestyle of virtue will always deliver an exceedingly abundant result!
"Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my concerns, and see if there is any rebellious way in me, and lead me in the ancient way" (Ps. 139:23-24).

God Is Looking for 'Abigail Leaders' in Our Divisive Society - CAROL MCLEOD CHARISMA NEWS

God Is Looking for 'Abigail Leaders' in Our Divisive Society

CAROL MCLEOD  CHARISMA NEWS
"Once upon a time ... in a land far, far away ... there lived a beautiful and wise young woman who was married to a brute of a man ..."
Although those words may sound like they have sprung from the pages of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale or a Disney movie, the truth is that this story is found in the Bible.
Abigail was a woman with beauty and brains, but she found herself trapped in a marriage to a scoundrel who overreacted with violence in every situation.
Nabal's name means "foolish," and he was a fool in every sense of the word; this man was harsh and evil in business and at home.
Nabal, Abigail's husband, was abundantly wealthy and owned large holdings of real estate and of livestock.
David and his band of brothers were hiding in the wilderness from Saul during the years of Abigail's marriage to Nabal. David, who had already been anointed to be king, was famous far and wide and was viewed with great respect and a little bit of healthy fear.
David was known as the Robin Hood of the ancient world, and he generously protected Nabal's shepherds and livestock while they were looking for land to graze upon. David and his mighty men protected Nabal's herdsmen from lions, tigers and the marauding bands of thieves who roamed the area.
The time for an annual celebration had arrived! Everyone who was associated with the ranch of Nabal was preparing to eat, drink and be merry! Friends, relatives and even strangers were invited from miles around in order to bask in the luxury and abundance Nabal had acquired during the successful season.
A large part of the reason Nabal had experienced such a profitable year was because of David's protection. Nabal had grown richer by the day, thanks to David.
David heard that Nabal was throwing his annual harvest feast. and so he sent word with a couple of his young men and wondered if they would be allowed to join in the day of merriment.
Nabal blew a royal gasket! He humiliated David. who had only been kind to him. Nabal nearly spit in David's handsome face with his refusal to let them join in the neighborhood party.
David said to his men, "Each of you gird on his sword." So each man girded on his sword. And David also girded on his sword, and about four hundred men went up behind David while two hundred stayed with the baggage (1 Sam. 25:13).
Talk about a situation escalating out of control. They had gone from talking about pumpkin pie to strapping on their swords. Can you picture it? Their nostrils were flaring, their eyes were glaring and the testosterone of David and his mighty men was about to explode.
When Abigail heard about the angry mob coming in her direction, she packed enough food to feed 600 "hangry" men.
When Abigail saw David, she hurried and dismounted from her donkey, and fell on her face before David and bowed herself to the ground. She fell at his feet and said, "On me alone, my lord, be the blame. And please let your maidservant speak to you, and listen to the words of your maidservant (1 Sam. 25:23-24).
What? "On me alone, my lord, be the blame."
The bully treatment by Nabal was not Abigail's fault. The refusal by Nabal to allow David and his band of brothers join in the thanksgiving feast was not Abigail's fault.
Why would a woman, who had done absolutely nothing to cause this volatile situation, take the blame for something that was out of her control?
I believe that she did it because that is what leaders do. If taking the blame will diffuse a situation—then do it.
Politicians don't know how to do this—they only point fingers at others.
The media don't know how to do this— they love to cast blame and dispersion on others.
When you find yourself in a fractious situation in life, always ask yourself the question, "What could I have done differently?"
When you find yourself a victim of the harsh and unfair treatment given by others, always internally ponder, "What can I learn from this situation?"
Abigail reflected the peace of God in a contentious situation; she spoke with grace and with humility.
If there was anything lovelier than Abigail's breathtaking beauty, it was her words and her heart.
God is looking for "Abigail leaders" today. He is looking for women who refuse to throw gasoline on the fires of strife. The Father is on a search for women who will bring peace and joy everywhere they go.
And, in case you have forgotten this incredible story, I'd like to remind you that it is true. David and Abigail well, "they lived happily ever after"!

Finding Peace in a Fallen and Selfish World - CAROL MCLEOD CHARISMA MAGAZINE

Peace is indeed attainable in this selfish world. Just look for it in the right place.
Peace is indeed attainable in this selfish world. Just look for it in the right place. (Flickr )
Peace. We all want it. Politicians promise it, beauty pageant contestants promote it, and social scientists study it.
Is peace even possible while living in the sin-filled world of compromise, difficult people and selfish agendas? Is peace one of those commodities that you and I will only experience once we reach the glorious gates of heaven?
Peace. Where is it?
Perhaps the disconnect between humanity and that ever elusive treasure known as "peace" is that we have been looking for peace in all the wrong places. We have mistakenly believed that international treaties have the power to guarantee peace, that peace is found on the sun-soaked beaches of Hawaii or that financial success will assuredly deliver peace.
"For He Himself is our peace" (Eph. 2:14).
Jesus Christ is peace personified! There is no peace to be discovered in any location, in any event or in any tangible luxury apart from the person of Jesus.
The devil wants to steal your peace, but Jesus wants you to enjoy His peace and His presence! The enemy wants you to look for peace in all the wrong places. He wants to keep you on a never-ending scavenger hunt that only leads to one frustrating dead end after another.
Jesus has the gift of peace in the midst of every storm, in the center of every battle and in spite of every human disappointment.
I no longer pray for understanding when I am going through a difficult or confusing situation in life because I know that I have been given something infinitely more valuable and eternally more significant than the simple understanding that the human mind is able to deliver.
"And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 4:7, MEV).
Peace trumps understanding every time! Peace has more power than mental processing or than human comprehension will ever deliver!
I have also learned not to pray for peace. Now, before you label me as a "heretic" of the very worst kind, let me explain this decision with a well-loved and oft-quoted scripture.
"You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You" (Is. 26:3).
Peace is the result of trusting the good, good Father. If I don't have peace, it's not because He hasn't given it, but it is because I refuse to trust Him. When my mind is immovably set upon the One who is the Prince of all Peace, nothing will be able to destroy or diminish the peace that I have been given when I received Jesus as my Lord and Savior! He has promised never to leave me and never to forsake me, so I know that I am the beneficiary of His ever-present peace.  Peace is Who He is!
"Seek peace and pursue it!" (Ps. 34:14).
When you decide to seek peace in every situation in life, you are actually deciding to seek Jesus because He is the One who is our peace in every storm, during every election and while traveling through every season in life. When you seek Jesus, you will find peace. When you look for peace, you will always find Jesus!
I have always wondered why we have religiously declared, "May he rest in peace," after a loved one has died. I believe that God wants His children not just to rest in peace after dying, but He wants us to live in peace this side of eternity!
So today, my challenge is to live in a place of extravagant peace! Enjoy peace! Celebrate His peace and His presence in your life! Peace is the gift of His presence in your life.

Why God's Timing for Your Ministry Is Always Perfect - CAROL MCLEOD CHARISMA MAGAZINE

How do you know when it is time to fully enter into a new ministry project? (Flickr )

How do you know when it is time to pull that infamous plug?
How do you know when it is time to fully enter in to a new project?
How do you know when it is time take a rest?
How do you know when it is time to declare a resounding and enthusiastic, "Yes!" to a new opportunity?
How do you know when it is time to press the pause button on well-laid plans and hoped-for dreams?
How do you know when it is time?
So often, as leaders in the body of Christ, we anxiously search for the will of God and strongly desire to walk in His specific destiny for our individual lives. What a magnificent search that is ... to discover the will of God!
What a profoundly fulfilling and divine treasure it is to make the discovery of God's eternal purpose for a mere human life!
However, I have learned that just as important as the "what" question is the "when" challenge.
It's not only important to ask of the Father, "What should I do?" but it is vitally necessary to ask a follow-up question, "When should I do it?"
How do you know when it's time?
"To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven" (Eccl. 3:1).
Just because God has always worked through one venue in your life does not mean He is limited to working only on that single and well-traveled route. Although God never changes, I know Him to be a God who loves to stir up change!
It is in moments of change and transition that we must lean not unto our own understanding and we must determine to move ahead not in our own strength. I believe the reason the Father loves to change things for His children is simply because He loves His children so much.
He loves to bring His children to a crossroad where they must listen for His voice in the deepest canyons of their heart.
He loves to present situations and circumstances to His children that are unable to be conquered with human strength alone.
He loves to allow mysteries and unanswered questions to linger in the hearts and minds of His dearly loved sons and daughters simply to give them the opportunity to cry out for His wisdom and for His perspective.
"It is He who changes the times and seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who know understanding" (Dan. 2:21).
How do you know when it is time? I have an answer for that question: You humbly come to the Father and ask Him what time it is.
"Father, what time is it?"
"Is it time to move? Is it time to close the door? Is it time to walk through the open door? Is it time to wait? Is it time to turn around? Is it time to walk away?"
"Father, what time is it?"
And the Father, who is generous in the giving of eternal and unquestionable wisdom, will answer your question in His time. He is not in a hurry nor is He limited by your earthly schedule.
He knows exactly what time it is!  He knows how old you are ... how many years you have left to serve Him ... and how many hours you have in a given day.
Perhaps you know precisely what God has called you to do but are anxious and impatient concerning the timing of His plan.
Maybe you are weary and discern that it is time to take a break from the busyness of life and it is actually past time for you to rest a while.
Come to the Father, who is never anxious and who is never weary. Ask Him to give you His perspective on the timing of your life. Request the God of eternity to enter into the man-made calendar of your days and to bring order into the confusion of your jumbled hours.
And perhaps you should remind yourself from time to time that God is not constrained by your human calendar. What a vibrant truth it is that there are some things about time this side of heaven that you and I will not understand until the joy of eternity! There are also items on the eternal calendar of heaven that make absolutely no sense to our limited, human thinking.
The next time you ask the Father, "What time is it?" perhaps this is the answer that you will receive:
"He has made everything beautiful in its appropriate time. He has also put obscurity in their hearts, so that no one comes to know the work that God has done from the beginning to the end." (Eccl. 3:11).
