Parents of a boy who was trapped in the Tham Luang cave system in Thailand have given thanks to God following his rescue.
The boy, who has not been named by the media, spent 16 days along with his 11 teammates and their coach deep inside a flooded cave system with limited food and oxygen.
They were found after nine days, but it took another week to bring them out safely, and one of the rescue team—a professional diver from Thailand—died in the process.

Sovereign

The boy is sponsored through Christian charity Compassion, and the boy's parents, who attend Maesai Grace Church in Chiang Rai province, gave thanks to God for their son's safe rescue.
They said: "Thank you to God who helps us to see our son very soon. We are so happy to hear that our son is out of the cave and to welcome him home.
"It's the love that God gives to our family. God is great love and there's nothing He can't do."

Thankful

When news arrived after nine days that all 12 boys and the coach had been found, his mother said: "Thank you to God. I'm really thankful that they found my son and all 13 are alive.
"I'm so happy and so thankful to see my son again. Thank you so much to everyone that has been praying for us and the boys and helping us; thank you."
Ewan McGregor, a British missionary in the city of Chiang Rai where the boys are now in hospital, said: "It really is a miracle and a result of prayer and I'm just excited to hear the testimonies of the boys when they're safe and well.

Calls Escalate for Government, Schools, Media to Back Biblical Marriage as Rates Plummet

Marriage rates have fallen to their lowest ever, prompting calls for the media, government and schools to support the institution.
Official figures for England and Wales show 239,020 weddings between opposite-sex couples took place in 2015—and that the marriage rate was at its lowest since 1862.
The Christian Institute, the Coalition for Marriage and the Marriage Foundation expressed sadness at the figures, highlighting marriage's unique status compared to other relationships.

Strong Foundation

Colin Hart, Director of The Christian Institute, said: "Marriage provides the strong foundation that families need to raise children, but is suffering from being maligned over many years.
"Instead of undermining marriage, we need politicians, the media and our schools to promote it as best for couples and best for children."
Thomas Pascoe, who leads the Coalition for Marriage group, said the government must stop "pandering to a minority who say all relationships are equal" and instead lend its support in the education and tax systems.
And Harry Benson of the Marriage Foundation said: "Future generations will not thank us for our foolish disregard for commitment and stability."

Religious Settings

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the number of marriages between a man and a woman in 2015 dropped by 3.4 per cent from the previous year.
Records on marriage rates began in the 1860s, but the 2015 figures of 21.7 marriages per thousand unmarried men and 19.8 marriages per thousand unmarried women is the lowest.
The statistics also show an eight per cent drop in religious ceremonies between 2014 and 2015.

Same-Sex Marriage

The ONS's Nicola Haines noted that opposite-sex marriage rates have generally declined since the 1970s.
She also said: "This is the first full year for which marriages were available for same-sex couples and they accounted for 2.6 percent of all marriages."

Christians Claimed Victory When Rabid Atheists Wanted to Tear Down Their Cross

A large white cross will remain in a U.S. city's park after councilors rejected claims from secularists that it is illegal.
The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) claimed the cross—which has been in place since 1930—excludes non-Christians.
But the Neosho City Council in Missouri voted unanimously to keep the cross at the Big Spring Park and said the law actually supports its position.
"Exclusionary"
The decision was applauded on social media, with over 2,000 likes on Facebook for the Council's press release and users praising the decision.
FFRF had written to the Mayor of Neosho claiming the cross "has an exclusionary effect, making non-Christian and non-believing residents of Neosho political outsiders."
It also stated that the presence of the cross violated the US constitution and fell foul of various court decisions.
"We ask you to remove the cross from Big Spring Park immediately or direct the display be moved to a more appropriate private location," it added.
No Removal
The Neosho City Council considered the letter but decided that the FFRF's legal reasoning was flawed.
"It is the position of the City Council," it said, that "controlling case law would support the continued presence of the cross within the park."
Noting that the cross had been located in the Big Spring Park for decades, it said "the unanimous opinion of the City Council" was to "not remove the cross or take any other actions which in any way compromises the longstanding history of our city."
"In God We Trust"
In December last year, a U.S school district banned all public prayers during official school events, following a complaint from the FFRF.
The group claimed it was "unconstitutional" for schools in Jennings County, Indiana, to "schedule, approve or otherwise endorse prayers or other religious messages."
However, in 2013, the FFRF was defeated in its case to remove the phrase "In God We Trust" from U.S. currency.
New York District Court Judge Harold Baer dismissed the case, which saw FFRF co-president Dan Barker claim the motto had no place in government.
