Our eyes turn towards Jerusalem ✡ “If I forget you, O Yerushalayim, let my right hand wither” – Israel365

If I forget you, O Yerushalayim, let my right hand wither Psalms 137:5 (The Israel Bible™)

אִם־אֶשְׁכָּחֵךְ יְרוּשָׁלָ ִם תִּשְׁכַּח יְמִינִי

im esh-ka-KHAYKH y’-ru-sha-LA-im tish-KAKH y’-mee-NEE

Psalm 137 was written by the rivers of Babylon, where the exiled Jews wailed and lamented the destruction of the Beit Hamikdash. They wondered how they would continue to endure on foreign soil. How could they continue to sing the songs of Hashem, which were supposed to be sung in the Temple, in the exile? Their answer was an oath to never forget Yerushalayim.

This psalm makes an oblique reference to Sefer Devarim 8:19, “If you do forget Hashem your God and follow other gods to serve them or bow down to them, I warn you this day that you shall certainly perish.” Israel’s exile came when they forgot God in their land.

In Babylon, they promised themselves never to repeat that mistake, and never to forget YerushalayimYom Yerushalayim is approaching, the day we commemorate the Jewish Nations return to Jerusalem after 2,000 years. Not for one moment was she forgotten, and today she is under the full sovereignty of Israel!

Today, we pray to return to the Temple Mount for the final stage of redemption, rebuilding the temple.

The Jews and Jerusalem Are One ✡ "Let Your Wrathful Fury Turn Back From Your City Yerushalayim" - Israel365

Hashem, as befits Your abundant benevolence, let Your wrathful fury turn back from Your city Yerushalayim, Your holy mountain; for because of our sins and the iniquities of our fathers, Yerushalayim and Your people have become a mockery among all who are around us
Daniel 9:16 (The Israel Bible™)

The Jews and Jerusalem Are One

In his prayer, Daniel lists three compelling reasons for Hashem (God) to accept his prayer and redeem the people from Babylonia: For the sake of Yerushalayim (Jerusalem), of the Beit Hamikdash (Holy Temple) and of the Jewish people.  Regarding YerushalayimDanielpoints out that it is an embarrassment to God when His beautiful city lies in ruins. He further questions how Hashem can ignore the Temple Mount where His presence was manifest most clearly on earth. Lastly, it is a desecration of God’s name when His chosen people are despised. Daniel groups Yerushalayim and the Jewish people together, “Yerushalayim and Your people have become a mockery among all who are around us,” since the Jews and Yerushalayim are one. Without their holy city, how can they succeed in exile, and how can Yerushalayim flourish without her children? Read about the modern fulfillment of Daniel's words in The Israel Bible Daily Inspirations devotional.

The Miracle of the Ingathering of the Exiles ✡ "Hashem His God Be With Him And Let Him Go Up" - Israel365

Thus said King Cyrus of Persia: God of Heaven has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and has charged me with building Him a House in Yerushalayim, which is in Yehuda. Any one of you of all His people, Hashem his God be with him and let him go up
II Chronicles 36:23 (The Israel Bible™)

The Miracle of the Ingathering of the Exiles

The last verse in the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) calls upon the Jewish people to ascend to Eretz Yisrael (the Land of Israel). After decades of Babylonian rule, Cyrus grants permission for the exiled Jews to return to their land and rebuild the Beit Hamikdash (Holy Temple) in Yerushalayim (Jerusalem). This was a fulfillment of the prophecy of Yirmiyahu(Jeremiah), that after seventy years Hashem (God) would return the Jewish people home (Jeremiah 29:10). Just as He fulfilled His word to return the People of Israel to the Land of Israel after the first exile, today as well God has begun to fulfill His promise to gather the exiles from the four corners of the earth and to bring the ultimate redemption (Deuteronomy 30:3-5). Since the establishment of the State of Israel, millions of Jews have returned home from over one hundred different countries. How fortunate are we to witness the beginning stages of the tremendous miracle of the ingathering of the exiles. May we soon merit the final fulfillment of the complete redemption of Israel and the entire world. The Israel365 Daily Inspirations devotional includes this and hundreds more inspirations to keep you uplifted throughout the year.
