In our verse, Jethro advises Moses on setting up a more efficient way of settling grievances, a type of court system. But if it was merely to get the people home faster, it would say in the plural, “their places” (their homes), rather than “their place” in the singular which implies a common location. Our verse is actually hinting that this system of justice will allow the nation to arrive in its place -- the Land of Israel -- in peace, as Isaiah1:27 states, “Zion shall be redeemed with justice.” (from Rabbi Shlomo Ephraim Luntschitz).
