Israel Rejects US-Iran Nuclear Deal
Sunday, April 05, 2015 | Israel Today Staff
The Israeli Cabinet over the weekend unanimously rejected the nuclear framework deal that Iran celebrated as a “victory” and the Obama Administration held aloft as a “historic” achievement, though neither of those two signatories seemed able to agree on its details.
“It is a bad framework which will lead to a bad and dangerous agreement,” Israeli officials told the media, stressing that a final nuclear deal has yet to be reached. “The framework gives international legitimacy to Iran’s nuclear program, the only aim of which is to produce a nuclear bomb.”
“This deal would pose a grave danger to the region and to the world and would threaten the very survival of the State of Israel,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said after meeting with his cabinet. “It would not shut down a single nuclear facility in Iran, would not destroy a single centrifuge in Iran and will not stop R&D on Iran’s advanced centrifuges.”
Netanyahu further noted that all the Obama Administration had achieved was to advance a dangerous nuclear arms race in the Middle East.
Reuters reported that the Iranian ex-pat community in the US shared Israel’s skepticism regarding the deal, and believed the proposed lifting of sanctions would do nothing but bolster the oppressive regime of the ayatollahs.
Tellingly, Obama’s “historic” achievement was supported by none other than Lebanon’s Hezbollah. “The Lausanne nuclear understanding is the triumph of right, stability and will of free nations as well as the axis of resistance under the leadership of the Islamic Iran,” boasted Hezbollah Deputy Secretary-General Naim Qassem.
