The Biblical blue color of 'tekhelet' is mentioned numerous times in the Bible. The color, worn on the corners of the four-cornered garment known as the 'tallit,' is meant to remind us of the sky, and, by extension, God and His constant presence in our lives. Yet for close to 1500 years, the source of this special blue dye had been lost to the world. In an exciting discovery, marine biologists, together with Talmudic researchers, identified the source of 'tekhelet' as a small snail found off the coast of Israel near Haifa. Today, people are wearing 'tekhelet' on their 'tzitzit' for the first time in centuries. From even the smallest sea creature we continue to see the Bible come to life in Israel.
