Trump Calls Mahmoud Abbas, Says It's Time to Make Peace

US President Donald Trump on Friday phoned Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and said the time had come to seek a genuine peace agreement with Israel.
Trump reiterated to Abbas that his administration will not follow in the footsteps of its predecessors by trying to impose a solution on Israel, The Hill reported.
“The President noted that the United States cannot impose a solution on the Israelis and Palestinians, nor can one side impose an agreement on the other,” read a statement released by the White House.
Trump reportedly invited Abbas to visit Washington “in the near future.”
Last month, Trump served notice to the Palestinians that he was not married to the two-state solution, and suggested he’d be willing to back any solution that Israel found most fitting.
“I’m looking at two-state and one-state [solutions], and I like the one that both parties like. I can live with either one,” he said during a press conference with visiting Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
