By counting the number of half shekels that were donated, Moses was able to determine the number of Jewish people in the nation. There is an important lessons to be learnt from this commandment. We, as individuals, can only succeed if we realize that we are figuratively each only 'half a shekel'. We need to know that each of us have unique gifts and talents bestowed on us by God to share with those around us.
