Palestinians Furious After Saudi Arabia Downplays Importance of Jerusalem - Israel Today

Palestinians Furious After Saudi Arabia Downplays Importance of Jerusalem

Wednesday, November 29, 2017 |  Israel Today Staff
Proponents of the Palestinian cause have tried to inflate the position of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount in Islam, and thereby paint Israel's sovereignty in this city as an affront to their religion.
But, a couple years ago, renowned Egyptian scholar and novelist Youssef Ziedan acknowledged in a series of television interviews that Jerusalem holds no religious significance for Muslims.
Today, it is common to hear that Jerusalem is Islam's third holiest city, being the location of the "Al Aqsa Mosque" referred to the in the Koran.
Ziedan said the whole thing is nonsense:
"The Al-Aqsa Mosque [in Jerusalem] did not exist back then, and the city was not called Al-Quds. It was called Aelia, and it had no mosques."
He is far from being alone in that position.
In fact, a growing number of Saudis on social media have taken to using a hashtag that translates as "Riyadh is More Important Than Jerusalem."
It is a deliberate downplaying of the importance of Jerusalem from both religious and nationalist viewpoints, and it coincides with the oil-rich kingdom's warming relations with Israel.
Saudis have grown increasingly frustrated with what they see as the Palestinian intransigent and treachery.
Palestinian rejection of Saudi efforts to bring the Israeli-Arab conflict to an equitable end has incensed many in Riyadh, as has Palestinian support for Iran's nuclear program and collaboration between Palestinian groups and Iran's Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah.
Like Israel, Saudi Arabia views Iran as an existential threat.
Alienating Saudi Arabia in this manner threatens to lose the Palestinians the support of the Arab world's top powers.
And yet, we see their hearts continue to harden.
In a backlash to the aforementioned Saudi hashtag, Palestinians on social media have started using a hashtag that translates as "Jerusalem is more important than the [Saudi] king."
If things continue down this path, a day could come when the Arab world's leading powers reject a Palestinian state even more than Israel does.

What This Hillary Clinton Aide (Huma Abedin) Said Has Jews Furious

BOB ESCHLIMAN  CHARISMA NEWS
While sorting through the volumes of emails provided by the Department of State as a result of its Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, the Daily Caller News Foundation came across a troubling chain of communication involving Hillary Clinton's longtime aide, Huma Abedin.
In a new report Thursday morning, the Daily Caller said the email demonstrated hostility toward the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and Jews in general. The daughter of fundamentalist Muslim parents who ran the Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs referred to AIPAC attendees as "that crowd" in the email.
Huma Abedin, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton's closest aide, urged former President Bill Clinton in 2009 to reject a speaking invitation before the American Israel Public Affairs Council (AIPAC), asking his assistant in an email, do "u really want to consider sending him into that crowd?"
Abedin's comment about "that crowd" has sparked anger and consternation among Jewish and non-Jewish leaders who consider it hostile to Jews and to the State of Israel. Her comments are raising uncomfortable questions about Abedin's past and her family's ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.
"Appalling" is how Morton Klein, national president of the Zionist Organization of America, described the email, adding that it, "shows hostility toward Jews and Israel in light of the fact that 'that crowd' gives huge ovations to White House speakers."
Klein pointed to the Abedin family's ties to a radical Islamic group, saying, "it makes me think about the allegations about her parents and other family members who were associated with the Muslim Brotherhood."

Syrian Groups Furious Over Israeli Food Aid - Israel Today Staff

Syrian Groups Furious Over Israeli Food Aid

Tuesday, June 21, 2016 |  Israel Today Staff
The various different groups fighting in Syria’s bloody civil war were all pointing accusatory fingers at one another last week over photo evidence of Israeli food aid reaching some of the rebel factions.
Bags of Israeli rice and flour were shown near road signs in the Qunietra region on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights.
The pictures sparked a war of words on social media.
“It is a disgrace to be receiving food from the Zionist Entity which has stolen the Golan,” wrote one jihadist group.
Pages linked to the Syrian regime insisted the photos were evidence that rebel groups are cooperating with the hated Israeli enemy.
According to the pan-Arab newspaper al-Quds al-Arabi, the food is provided to some of the more moderate rebel groups that make up the Free Syrian Army, which regularly brings its wounded and other victims to the Golan border to receive medical aid from the Israelis.
