Museum of the Bible Announces Major Exhibition on Science and the Bible to Premiere in 2020

The Museum of the Bible has announced plans for a major, year-long temporary exhibition that will allow visitors to explore the relationship between science and the Bible.
Located in Washington, D.C., the museum announced Wednesday the project will be funded by grants from the John Templeton Foundation and the Templeton Religion Trust. The exhibition is scheduled to open during the summer of  2020.
The multimedia and thematic experience will examine how people have turned to science and the Bible to answer the fundamental questions of existence using artifacts from both the museum's collection and on loan from institutions around the world.
The museum is working with an international advisory panel of over a dozen scientists and scholars to develop the content and associated educational programs. By exploring historical interactions between science and the Bible, this exhibition will shed light on contemporary debates and foster a greater understanding of the shared curiosity about our world that stimulates both scientific inquiry and biblical interpretation.
Past discoveries such as Copernicus' heliocentric model, Newton's laws of motion, and Darwin's theory of natural selection, along with current topics like the origin of the cosmos and the debate surrounding the ideas of life and health, will be featured.
Through artifacts, interactives and design features, past explanations and the ever-evolving relationship between science and the Bible will be explored with these six questions:
  • How did it all begin?
  • What keeps the universe running?
  • Are we different from animals?
  • What are we made of?
  • Where are we going?
  • Are we alone?
"Museum of the Bible is honored to be in partnership with the prestigious Templeton Foundation on this ambitious project," Museum of the Bible President and CEO Ken McKenzie said in a press release. "In keeping with the museum's intent to cater to all learning styles, this exhibition will not only be informative but engaging. Through this exhibit and accompanying initiatives, we hope guests will leave with a deeper appreciation for humanity's shared curiosity in the big questions that ultimately inspire both scientific inquiry and biblical exploration."
In addition to the exhibition, the museum will host speaker programs and academic conferences, create educational materials for classroom use, organize a travel exhibition, and produce an online exhibition.

Billy Graham's Life on Display Like Never Before at Museum of the Bible - CBN News John Jessup

WASHINGTON – Billy Graham is arguably the most well-known preacher, familiar to people both
inside and outside of the Christian church.

Yet still, five months after his death, a more intimate picture of the prominent pastor is coming into
focus through a new exhibit at the Museum of the Bible called Pilgrim Preacher: Billy Graham, the
Bible, and the Challenges of the Modern World.

While the evangelist's influence is difficult to measure, his presence looms large in the exhibit space
with dramatic black and white floor-to-ceiling murals and quotations sprinkled throughout the
that shaped his ministry," explained Anthony Schmidt, an associate curator at the Museum of the Bible
and the exhibit's designer. "But then we wanted people to better understand culturally how he shaped
post-war America in terms of his use of the media and the reach that he had around the globe."

In his more than 60 years as a preacher, Graham pioneered the use of radio, television, film, and mass
crusades to teach from the holy scriptures.

"Very early on, he embraced technology and media, and that's what set him apart," Schmidt said.

It was when he was a little boy watching television with his parents that Schmidt first recalls seeing
Graham. Then in college, he attended the evangelist's last crusade before retiring. The museum
contains the pulpit used from that New York City revival in 2005 in addition to one from one of his
first crusades.

As overseer of the exhibit, Schmidt has helped to collect more than a hundred of Graham's books,
Bibles, and other personal belongings, which display the "pilgrim preacher's" journey from a boy born
in Charlotte, North Carolina to a man who reached millions around the world.

From now until January 2019, the exhibit shows never-before-seen items on loan from the
Billy Graham Library, where visitors can see his handwritten class notes from Bible school and a
personal inscription he wrote in his father's Bible. There's even a pair of war-issue military boots that
he wore during a trip to Korea in 1952 in sub-zero temperatures.

Collectively, the displays show his wide-ranging reach, which extended beyond the confines of the
church and affected both culture and politics.

Still, Graham's son and ministry successor told CBN News earlier this year despite his father's
prominence, he always understood his calling.

"My father never wanted to be a celebrity," insisted Franklin Graham. "Maybe that's why God used
him."

‘I feel like I’m just falling in love with Jesus,’ Tourists Get their First Look at the Bible Museum

WASHINGTON – The Museum of the Bible kicked-off its grand-opening with a night of song and prayer Saturday.
The event featured performances from award-winning gospel artist CeCe Winans and sermons from faith leaders like Senate Chaplain Barry Black.

Just one day later, the museum opened its 430,000 square feet facility to the public.
"It is amazing. Just the feel, the multi-media presentations, the live portrayals, all of the animations, all of the research. It's just fabulous,” described visitor Julie Koon.
Koon and her husband Stan made the journey all the way to DC from Sacramento. They say it was well worth the trip.
"Sitting by the sea of Galilee, which I love. It's one of my favorite places in the world,” Julie Koon said referring to one of the museums many interactive exhibits.
“I feel like I’m just falling in love with Jesus and the word all over again,” she continued.
And what about the recent reports the museum has very few areas dedicated to Jesus Christ?
Visitor Marta Bingham agrees but told CBN News that depends on how you look at it.
"It depends on what they are looking for in Jesus. A lot of it does reference the Bible. It's the museum of the Bible and the impact the Bible has had,” said Bingham.
Luis Flores agreed and said the overall message is Jesus.
"I think the Bible itself, it’s the word of God. Jesus. So it's in there. We just have to look into it,” said Flores.
Flores said the museum has lots of layers and important messages for the world.
He pointed out the museum’s focus on the Bible’s influence on history, from our founding fathers to the education system.
“I like the fact that museum is explaining the whole history of it and people and what roles they played, Martin Luther King and education, no, I think it’s all included,” Flores continued.
The Koons says the museum itself and location are by design.
“It's important that this museum be here, where God raised up a nation and where He is speaking to the world. And where He has a clear sound,” explained Stan Koon.
