WASHINGTON – The Museum of the Bible kicked-off its grand-opening with a night of song and prayer Saturday.
The event featured performances from award-winning gospel artist CeCe Winans and sermons from faith leaders like Senate Chaplain Barry Black.

Just one day later, the museum opened its 430,000 square feet facility to the public.
"It is amazing. Just the feel, the multi-media presentations, the live portrayals, all of the animations, all of the research. It's just fabulous,” described visitor Julie Koon.
Koon and her husband Stan made the journey all the way to DC from Sacramento. They say it was well worth the trip.
"Sitting by the sea of Galilee, which I love. It's one of my favorite places in the world,” Julie Koon said referring to one of the museums many interactive exhibits.
“I feel like I’m just falling in love with Jesus and the word all over again,” she continued.
And what about the recent reports the museum has very few areas dedicated to Jesus Christ?
Visitor Marta Bingham agrees but told CBN News that depends on how you look at it.
"It depends on what they are looking for in Jesus. A lot of it does reference the Bible. It's the museum of the Bible and the impact the Bible has had,” said Bingham.
Luis Flores agreed and said the overall message is Jesus.
"I think the Bible itself, it’s the word of God. Jesus. So it's in there. We just have to look into it,” said Flores.
Flores said the museum has lots of layers and important messages for the world.
He pointed out the museum’s focus on the Bible’s influence on history, from our founding fathers to the education system.
“I like the fact that museum is explaining the whole history of it and people and what roles they played, Martin Luther King and education, no, I think it’s all included,” Flores continued.
The Koons says the museum itself and location are by design.
“It's important that this museum be here, where God raised up a nation and where He is speaking to the world. And where He has a clear sound,” explained Stan Koon.

US Bible Museum Partners with Israeli Archaeologists

US Bible Museum Partners with Israeli Archaeologists

JERUSALEM, Israel – It's hard to tell who's more excited about the new joint venture between the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., and the Israel Antiquities Authority.
When it opens in the fall of 2017 near Washington's National Mall, the eight-story museum will dedicate its top floor gallery to display biblical artifacts chosen from approximately 2 million antiquities from Israel's National Treasures.
Both a permanent exhibit and special rotating exhibits are being planned.
With 39 active archaeological excavations in Israel today, it's possible that some of the artifacts to be featured in the museum's top floor gallery have yet to be discovered.
The Museum of the Bible, which also takes part in Israeli excavations, is about to begin a dig at Tel-Shimron, one of the Jewish state's largest and most biblically significant sites.
IAA Director Israel Hasson said part of the museum's "mission" is to make Israel's archaeological heritage accessible to people around the world.
"The Israel Antiquities Authority is thrilled and proud to partner with the Museum of the Bible on this landmark project," IAA Director Israel Hasson said.
The "rare opportunity" to display Israeli antiquities that "illuminate the Bible" will provide visitors with a firsthand look at the "rich and diverse history and archaeology of the Holy Land," Hasson said.
Meanwhile, Museum of the Bible President Cary L. Summers appeared equally excited with the newly formed alliance.
"The Israel Antiquities Authority's unparalled two million artifacts, along with the 40,000 objects in Museum of the Bible's Green Collection, will combine for a new standard of museum experience unlike any ever seen before," Summers predicted.
The Green Collection's 40,000 objects from its founder, Hobby Lobby President Steve Green, includes some very rare and significant biblical texts and artifacts such as cuneiform tablets dating to the time of Abraham, biblical papyri and manuscripts, Torah scrolls, and rare printed Bibles.

Construction Begins: DC Museum to Bring Bible Alive

WASHINGTON -- Washington, D.C. Is famous for its museums.  Some are dedicated to art, some to history, and a couple to air and spacecraft.  But soon the Bible will have its very own museum right in the heart of the nation’s capital.

Construction of the world’s largest Bible museum  began this week with an act of destruction, as a huge construction claw began ripping away at a building in the way of the future 430,000-square-foot structure.
The seven-story, $400,000,000 museum will tell the impact, history and narrative of the the holy book that Bible museum President Cary Summers called “the most read, most debated, most banned book in history."

CBN News recently spoke to Steve Green, the museum’s founder.

“Our idea and our desire is to tell the Bible story in such an engaging way that people will want to spend hours in the museum,” Green said.
Green’s family not only runs the mega-business Hobby Lobby, but also owns one of the largest collection of Bible artifacts in the world.  Most will find a home in the new museum, along with many hi-tech, innovative displays to bring God’s Word to life.

“When we think of the word ‘museum,’ sometimes you think of old and dusty,” Green said.  “But what we will be doing is making this technologically advanced, where that it is very engaging and interactive, where that somebody could have a customized tour if they wanted to.”
The museum is set to open in 2017, just a few hundred yards from the National Mall and the most famous Smithsonian attractions, like the popular National Air and Space Museum.
