Member of British Royal Family to Make First State Visit to Israel, Report Says - BREAKING ISRAEL NEWS

Member of British Royal Family to Make First State Visit to Israel, Report Says

“Mercy and truth preserve the king; and his throne is upheld by mercy.” Proverbs 20:28 (The Israel Bible™)
A member of the United Kingdom’s royal family is reportedly expected to visit Israel this year, marking the first time a British royal would make an official visit to the Jewish state.
The royal family has traditionally shunned Israeli invitations for official state visits, but members of the family have visited in a personal capacity and to attend dignitaries’ funerals.
While it’s unclear which British royal would visit Israel, it has been speculated it will likely be Charles, Prince of Wales and heir to the throne, who attended the funeral of the late Israeli President Shimon Peres last year in Jerusalem, The Independent reported. The report added that Queen Elizabeth would likely skip the trip due to her advanced age and health concerns.

Queen Elizabeth II did not approve of gay-marriage legislation in the United Kingdom, according to a report.
The Daily Mail reports the queen supported civil unions, but was opposed to defining same-sex couples' relationships as a marriage.
The UK legalized gay marriage almost two years ago after a fierce debate, according to The Telegraph.
"I can only advise and warn," the queen reportedly said. As queen, Elizabeth is the head of state, but she is unable to make and pass legislation.
Queen Elizabeth detailed her faith in her new book, The Servant Queen and the King She Serves, which is due out in April.
"So to have a monarch who talks openly about Jesus in a very relaxed and natural way, we find that a huge encouragement and hope that Christians across the country will take a leaf out of the queen's book and learn to talk about Jesus in a natural way with friends, relatives and colleagues so people can discover more about what it means to be a follower of Jesus," co-author Catherine Butcher, from HOPE, told premier.org.

With ISIS Rising in Europe, Queen Elizabeth Boldly Declares Faith in Christ

Britain's Queen Elizabeth focused on what she called the light of the Christian faith in her annual Christmas message on Friday, after a year marked by militant Islamist attacks across the world.
Elizabeth, 89, the head of the Church of England, quoted the Bible and spoke of millions of people lighting candles of hope.
"It is true," she said, "that the world has had to confront moments of darkness this year, but the Gospel of John contains a verse of great hope, often read at Christmas carol services: 'The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.'"
Elizabeth, who overtook her great, great grandmother Queen Victoria this year to become Britain's longest-reigning monarch, recorded the message earlier this month at Buckingham Palace, her London residence.
She did not make direct reference to Islamist attacks in 2015, which included two in Paris killing some 150 people and a beach massacre of tourists in Tunisia in June in which 38 people died, most of them British.
But she reminded her audience that Christianity's unchanging message "was not one of revenge or violence but simply that we should love one another."
She added: "There's an old saying that it is better to light a candle than curse the darkness."
Seated in front of a Christmas tree as she delivered the latest in a long line of seasonal royal messages that date back to George V in 1932, the queen, who turns 90 in April, reflected on her reign of over 63 years.
"One of the joys of living a long life is watching one's children, then grandchildren, then great-grandchildren, help decorate the Christmas tree," she said.
"And this year my family has a new member to join the fun," she added, referring to her fifth great-grandchild, Princess Charlotte, who was born in May to her grandson Prince William and his wife Kate.
"Gathering round the tree gives us a chance to think about the year ahead - I am looking forward to a busy 2016, though I have been warned I may have 'Happy Birthday' sung to me more than once or twice."
She concluded: "There are millions of people lighting candles of hope in our world today. Christmas is a good time to be thankful for them and for all that brings light to our lives."

British Actress Helen Mirren: The best thing about Israel is Israelis

British Actress: The best thing about Israel is Israelis

JERUSALEM, Israel -- British actress Helen Mirren warmed the hearts of many at the 29th Israel Film Festival in Los Angeles when she said the best thing about Israel is Israelis.
The 70-year-old award-winning actress received IFF’s Career Achievement Award while American screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, 54, received the Film and Television Achievement Award.
Mirren said a visit to Israel early in her career was “one of the building blocks that have made me into the actress that I am, doing the kind of work I do, that I seek to do and the way in which I seek to do it.”
“Likewise, I was thinking about the building blocks that made Israel the great country that it is and the courage and the commitment of those early people working on the kibbutz that I was lucky enough in those days to meet and work alongside briefly,” Mirren said.
“I love Israel. I think it’s a great, great country,” she continued. “I think that through all the difficulties and all the pain that Israel has suffered in the past and will in the future, the great thing that Israel has is Israelis, and they will guide it through.”
Among her many accomplishments, Mirren won best actress at the 2007 Academy Awards for her performance as Queen Elizabeth.
Sorkin, 54, has also enjoyed many successes as a Hollywood screenwriter. He’s been nominated at this year’s Academy Award for the screenplay for “Steve Jobs.”
“It couldn’t be more important to support Israel,” Sorkin said at the ceremonies.
