In a recent interview with Christian journalist Paul Calvert, Anne Ayalon of Christian Friends of Magen David Adom (CFMDA) described how Israel’s national emergency medical service is operating under wartime pressure while continuing to respond to urgent needs across the country.
Ayalon explained that Magen David Adom (MDA) has been mobilized since Operation Roaring Lion began in late February, with ambulances, first responders, dispatchers, and blood donation services all functioning at heightened capacity.
She spoke candidly about traumatic scenes that MDA response teams have encountered. Recalling the recent missile attack in Beit Shemesh, where nine people were killed and many others injured, she said, “This was a very difficult time for us. There was, of course, a lot of rubble, and you had to get the vehicles close enough, and you had to get our paramedics there to search, help search for bodies, and respond to those who needed care.”
Ayalon emphasized the remarkable preparedness of MDA personnel, saying, “They have trained so well that it almost becomes a gut response. They know exactly what to do without having to think about it.”
She also highlighted the organization’s unity across religious lines, telling Calvert, “We have many Muslims and Christians working with Orthodox Jews and secular Jews to help each other. And we actually have a very large number of what we call commanders or their senior staff who are Muslim.”
For Christian supporters abroad, Ayalon explained how CFMDA offers a direct way to stand with Israel in times of crisis.
“We actually raise funds from Christians. It gives them a worthwhile, a meaningful way to bless Israel. And it really is. I've been doing this. I'm a volunteer. I've been doing this for almost 13 years now. And it's very meaningful to me.”
She added that some ministries provide ambulances that are marked with the CFMDA insignia, so Israelis can see that their Christian friends around the world are standing with them.
Calvert's full interview with Anne Ayalon of Christian Friends of Magen David Adom offers a real-world, hopeful look at emergency response, interfaith cooperation, and practical Christian support for Israel in wartime.
