LoveMusic! - 4Him - "Real Thing"

4Him - 25th Anniversary Tour "Real Thing"

4Him  (L-R) Marty Magehee, Andy Chrisman, Kirk Sullivan, Mark Harris

July 9, 2017

For many years 4Him blessed us with great music. In fact, more than 25 years of great music!

In November of 2015, my daughter Hannah surprised me with tickets to their last tour together, their "25th Anniversary Tour." What a joy it was to be there, hearing my favorite group of all time, sharing songs that I had listened to, probably in all of those 25 years.

In fact, when my four kids were older (Josh Ben, Hannah, and Christen), I heard them make comments about our family car travel times, listening to 4Him CDs. (And probably cassette tapes before then.)

Their song "Real Thing", really strikes at the heart of the matter, when we think about the world we live in, the people around us, and how we all need Jesus. He is the real thing.

Be blessed in your listening, as your heart catches the message, while your spirit longs to see the world...come to Jesus.

Jesus - the Real Thing.

P.S. The YouTube recording you are about to hear is from that 25th Anniversary Tour itself. Hannah, Ben and I were also able to receive "pre-show" interview tickets with the guys when someone wasn't able to attend, and thus we got great seats near the front. My Canon SureShot camera had a workout, recording many videos and still shots during the interview time and concert that followed.

Enjoy the love that comes through the lyrics.

4 HIM LYRICS

"Real Thing"

I can dream about Heaven
Constantly both day and night
I can let my mind drift away
To a better place, a better time

Though there's nothing wrong
With thinking about
Forever by and by
All the while millions are still
Searching for a light

Maybe it is time we take a look
At here and now
Maybe we can change the destiny
Of a world that's crying out

For the truth we take for granted
Is too often left unsaid
We can get so Heaven minded
That sometimes we forget

That we're living in a real world
With real hurt and real pain
And all we really need is the real thing

When we look beyond our circumstances
And face reality
We'll realize that all we really need
Is just to see

Jesus in a real world

There are days when I look around
And I feel like hope is gone
There are times my heart is torn between
Who is right and what is wrong

There are causes I believe in
There are things I'll never change
But I'm finding all that matters
Is there's just one truth
One truth that remains

Thousands Attend the Largest UK Evangelism Event Since Billy Graham

CBN News 07-07-2017
The UK's largest evangelism event since Billy Graham's crusade decades ago hit the heart of Britain today and thousands responded to the Gospel message, putting their faith in Jesus Christ.
"Literally, thousands of people have just come forward to give their lives to Jesus," said Peter Wooding, London Bureau Chief of the Global News Alliance.
The event should encourage Christians across the United Kingdom to pick up the banner of evangelism and begin sharing the Gospel, one national prayer leader said.
"I believe that God has already released a grace over the United Kingdom and it's going to be very easy to get saved in Britain and this is just a foretaste," Jonathan Oloyede told Wooding.
Watch Peter Wooding's interview with Oloyede below.
Evangelist J. John has traveled the world telling others about Christ, and today he brought the Gospel to the U.K. for a one-day event called JustOne
Watch evangelist J. John preach at the JustOne event in London.
Attendees were encouraged to bring "just one" person to the event, in hopes of doubling the impact.
This simple invitation strategy has proven to be successful and event organizers expected 20,000 to 40,000 people to pack out Emirates Stadium.
High profile performers such as Matt Redman, Hillsong London, and Noel Robinson led worship and a number of speakers including Canon Andrew White, Julia Immonen, Lord Michael Hastings, and Linvoy Primus also ministered to the crowd.

J. John told Premier in an interview last month that the world needs to see the church engaging in mass evangelism.

"There is biblical authority and historical precedent for mass evangelism. I find it significant that outside the increasingly secular West, mass evangelism has continued, particularly in the majority world, with some spectacular rallies in places like Africa," J.John said.

"Mass evangelism reminds the world that the Church is not dead. It's easy to ignore a few little fellowships hidden away in anonymous buildings in a dozen suburbs. It's much less easy if there are tens of thousands of people in your city's main stadium. JustOne at the Emirates Stadium is the first of many anticipated stadium events."

He also hopes tens of thousands of people will make a decision to give their lives to Christ at the event.

"I would be delighted if 4,000 or more people responded on the day, but let us see what the Holy Spirit does," he said.

It's Time to Back Israel, or Face the Consequences - Charles Gardner ISRAEL TODAY

It's Time to Back Israel, or Face the Consequences

RELATED STORIES
The moral backbone of the UK Government is once more being tested – this time on the crucial issue of whether or not we will stand with Israel in her time of need.
Stalked by terror and threats on every side, the Jewish state is potentially in as great a peril now as its people were under the Nazis, with an estimated 120,000 missiles pointed at Israeli cities by the Iran-sponsored, Lebanese-based terror group Hezbollah.
And supporters of this vile enemy of democracy have been allowed to march through the streets of London waving an intimidating flag featuring an assault rifle, and calling for the destruction of Israel!
In the wake of a petition signed by over 10,000 people calling upon the UK Government to ban Hezbollah which Home Secretary Amber Rudd has promised to consider, a House of Commons debate on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was called on Wednesday.
It was perhaps aptly summed up by the sense of de ja vu expressed by one participant as ‘two-state solution’ mantra once more echoed through the chamber.
But Israel clearly still has friends in the UK who understand their predicament. Conservative member John Howell made the point that no lasting peace was possible if Palestinians continue to be indoctrinated to hate Jews and Scottish Conservative Ross Thomson called for a full ban on Hezbollah, adding that Israel was “truly a beacon of democracy in a troubled region”.
Fellow Conservative Theresa Villiers said that glorifying terrorists was part of the problem, mentioning how 25 Palestinian schools had been named after them, and quoting PA leader Mahmoud Abbas as saying, “We welcome every drop of blood spilled in Jerusalem.”
Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt commended Labour’s new MP for Peterborough, Fiona Onasanya, for blaming man’s frailties rather than religion for causing these problems after she had referred to the UK Parliament’s motto, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain” (Psalm 127.1) – inscribed into the stone floor of the central lobby and written in Latin.
Unfortunately, the general misunderstanding of Israel being the ‘occupying power’ skews the narrative in favour of the Palestinians, whereas in truth the Jews are entitled to every square inch of Judea and Samaria – and much more – according to the terms of the international treaty signed at San Remo in Italy in 1920.
The aforesaid petition, launched by Christians United for Israel (CUFI), follows the June 18 Al Quds march through central London during which anti-Israel protestors carried Hezbollah flags.
The terror organization is banned throughout the world – including by the Arab League – but only its military wing is proscribed in the UK. This provided the legal loophole allowing marchers to show their support for its political wing. Yet, by its own admission, Hezbollah does not differentiate between its political and military wings.
“If Britain is to genuinely say ‘no to terror’ then all terrorist organizations must be banned without compromise,” says CUFI UK executive director Des Starritt. “Following the Arab League and the United States in proscribing Hezbollah is one simple step that the UK Government can take in ensuring that extremism will not be tolerated in this country.”
Indeed, what is so complicated about that?
The organization shamelessly calls for the destruction of Israel and now has “more missiles below ground in Lebanon than the European NATO allies have above ground,” according to Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon.
“Hezbollah has placed these positions next to schools and other public institutions, putting innocent civilians in great danger,” he said.
In fact, Israeli Defense Forces Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot says “every third or fourth house” of southern Lebanon’s civilian population is being used as human shields for terror activities.
Meanwhile mortar shells have been fired across the Israeli border from the Tehran-backed Syrian army, increasing the prospect of global conflict possibly also involving Russia. And Iran’s long-held aim of wiping Israel off the map was graphically demonstrated at the UN where a photo was shared showing their use of a Jewish ‘Star of David’ symbol as a target for a ballistic missile test.
It’s time our politicians faced up to the fact that the terror tactics we have recently witnessed in Manchester and London were first used on the streets of Israel. Now even Muslim London Mayor Sadiq Khan has reportedly sought help from Israel on security matters.
The Bible says very clearly that if you bless the seed of Abraham, you will be blessed; but that cursing will bring judgment. (Genesis 12.3) In the days leading up to the Balfour Declaration of 1917, Britain ruled the waves and it was said that the sun never set on our empire. But in the last 100 years, during which we have repeatedly betrayed Israel, we have not only lost our empire, but have fallen into decadence and confusion.
Surely we are not suggesting that Israel deserves terror, but we don’t?
Speaking of the future glory of Zion, the prophet Isaiah wrote: “For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish; it will be utterly ruined.” (Isa 60.12)
And it’s also worth noting that former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar has urged support for Israel on the basis that “if it goes down, we all go down”.
He argues that the Jewish state is at the cutting edge in the battle between militant Islam and the West and, in a Times article, concludes: “Israel is a fundamental part of the West which is what it is thanks to its Judeo-Christian roots. If the Jewish element of those roots is upturned and Israel lost, then we are lost too. Whether we like it or not our fate is inextricably intertwined.”

Top Salvation Army Leader: What to Do When You Encounter a Bend in the Road - PHIL COOKE CHARISMA NEWS

Jolene Hodder, center, has spent most of her adult life ministering to those on the edges of society, and much of that work has been in Africa (Contributed)
Join us on the new C-Pop podcast where Taylor and Jessilyn discuss, debate and sometimes deride pop culture with a strong sense of humor and a focus on Christ. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

Jolene Hodder has spent most of her adult life ministering to those on the edges of society, and much of that work has been in Africa. After one long time of service on the continent, she and husband Kenneth thought they had earned a well-deserved break. But she encountered what she calls a "bend in the road" when God called them back to the continent a second time.
That journey of obedience has now been told in her new book, A Bend in the Roadand it's a virtual roadmap for anyone experiencing an unexpected change in their life. I had the opportunity to talk with Jolene about that journey and what she learned as a result:
Phil Cooke: Tell me a little about what you and your husband Kenneth are doing right now for the Salvation Army.
Jolene Hodder:  Since our return from Kenya in January, my husband and I have assumed responsibility for leading The Salvation Army's spiritual and social work throughout the western United States and the South Pacific. What we do in every location depends upon what each community needs. But our mission is always the same:  "To proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination."

Phil Cooke: You arrived in your current position via Kenya. Tell me about your experience there.
Jolene Hodder:  My husband and I were responsible for all the Army's work in Kenya West. We oversaw 813 pre-primary and primary schools, 77 secondary schools and 33 social institutions, as well as 508 corps (churches). This does not include over 900 other ministry fellowships. My passion was, and still is, to see all women grow into their greatest potential in Christ. I experience great joy when I see women thrive in their homes, family life, in their communities and in their areas of giftedness.

Phil Cooke: You had spent time in Africa before. What were your feelings about going back a second time?
Jolene Hodder:  While I loved my home and ministry in Kenya in my first assignment, being so far away from family was extremely difficult. As my parents grew older, and my daughter moved away from Kenya to attend college, I wanted desperately to be in the same country, if not closer. Not only did I miss many family celebrations in my first missionary assignment, I also missed being with family during major health issues. So, going back to Kenya was definitely a step of faith. However, God is faithful, and He blessed me during my assignment more than I could have ever imagined. I am so thankful I took the path He marked out for me, and I would encourage others that when God calls you to an unexpected place, He doesn't leave you hanging. He has a plan, and no matter how unusual or unplanned it may appear, God always has a purpose for your life.

Phil Cooke: When did you realize you needed to start recording the journey into a book?
Jolene Hodder:  When we were sent to Nairobi for our first assignment, I promised our parents I would write weekly. We also promised each other that we would never keep anything such as health and safety issues from one another. Not wanting to worry our parents but be true to my word, I attempted to write our experiences, always adding a positive twist. Before long, I saw those positive twists as blessings from God. While I was writing for my parents' benefit, the writings became my way of seeing God reveal himself through the challenges. Before long, I began receiving messages from all over the world asking me to put the letters into a book. Apparently, my family had been forwarding the letters to their friends, and their friends forwarded them on as well. Anyway, since I hadn't kept the letters, I asked people to send me what they had. My first book, Walking in White, is a collection of those letters. When we returned to Kenya for the second assignment, people asked me to write letters, but it was simply easier to put together a blog. After our return to the United States, the publisher asked to print these entries into a book, Around the Bend.

Phil Cooke: Today, "missions" doesn't seem to capture the heart of American Christians like it once did. Things have changed so much that it almost seems like America itself needs to become a mission field. Why do missionaries still matter today?
Jolene Hodder:  First, just as the world is now more technologically connected than it has been in the past, so the church can and should function with a far higher degree of interdependence. Missionaries are one way of ensuring that this takes place. Second, whenever someone called to ministry has the opportunity to serve in another culture or another part of the world, he or she will always return home with a far broader and deeper understanding, not only of a different place on the globe, but of the kingdom of God itself. In our case, for example, my husband and I learned far more from our Kenyan brothers and sisters about what it means for the church to function as a community than we ever had living in the United States. We've brought that experience back with us to our current roles, and I think we're more effective as a result. Third, and perhaps most important, whenever we send out missionaries, whether it's to Africa, Asia, Europe or even to North America, we say something about our confidence in the future that God's Word promises—one in which "every knee will bow and every tongue confess" (see Phil. 2:10-11) that Christ is Lord. So we must always ask ourselves: Do we still believe that?  Missionaries prove that we do.

Phil Cooke: What's the focus of your book A Bend in the Road?
Jolene Hodder:  Following God's call, wherever that might take you, is always an adventure. The book simply shares the spiritual lessons I learned on my personal journey living and ministering in Kenya. And hopefully it will be an encouragement for anyone trusting God during times of unexpected or difficult change.

Phil Cooke: If you could say one thing your experience as a Salvation Army leader in Africa taught you, what would it be?
Jolene Hodder:  As long as my faith is just a tiny bit bigger than my fear, I can do just about anything. The Kenyans I grew to love had so little to call their own. Many struggled to survive each day, and yet their faith allowed them to live with abandon, trusting in a loving and merciful God.

Phil Cooke: What's ahead for Jolene and Kenneth Hodder?
Jolene Hodder:  Without doubt, there are many more bends in the road ahead and many more adventures to be had. Our responsibility on this journey is simply to follow God on the path He has chosen for us.

The devil is really resisting those that are preparing the people and establishing the kingdom of God. If you’re not suffering some kind of tribulation, some kind of persecution, something is wrong. -Bobby Conner

Hebrews 4:12 KJV For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

John 1:14 MEV The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, the glory as the only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Luke 8:13 MEV Those on the rock are the ones who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. But these have no root, for they believe for a while, then in the time of temptation fall away.

Acts 10:9-11 MEV The next day as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray about the sixth hour. He became very hungry and desired to eat. Revelation 2:4 KJV Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Psalm 92:10 KJV But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

2 Chronicles 20:20 NKJV So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”

Judges 6:11-15 KJV And there came an angel of the Lord, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites. And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour. And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites. And the Lord looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee? And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.

My husband, Samuel, and I have been married now for more than 21 years. We fell in love in college, and we fell in love hard. I am so very grateful! The Lord gave us such a once-in-a-lifetime type of love, the kind of love that has its roots in eternity, that withstands the tests of times, and that has the Lord's hand and His Word intermingled and interwoven in the very fabric of our relationship. I thank the Lord because, truth be told, we are very far from being perfect. If it were not for the Lord, where would we be? We will never claim to have operated in perfection, especially when it comes to the maturation of ourselves and our marriage.
Early in our marriage, people would comment that we looked so happy and didn't fight. That, of course was many moons ago, before we began our growth. We become very acquainted with the art of disagreement. We have gone through maturation periods that have stretched our faith, our trust and our very marriage. As a wife, I have run through the gamut of emotions. I have questioned myself, my worth, my relevance, my beauty, my appeal and my place, as well as my sanity.
I was so busy fantasizing and idealizing, attempting to recreate the past of a mate, that in the beginning I robbed myself of appreciating and honoring the great person, husband, father, provider, man of God and man of integrity that my husband had become. It became many times like it says in Proverbs 27:15: "A continual dropping on a very rainy day and a contentious [having a tendency to argument or strife; quarrelsome] woman are alike."
Picture that: It just doesn't stop. It keep pouring; it keeps storming. Wives, sometimes our "reminder," our "Why can't you? " or "Didn't you say you were going to do?" can eventually become a deluge for our husbands ...
Our attitudes can either reinforce or hinder our husbands. Wives, our husbands can either be "broken" and dismantled, or validated and healed, by the words we speak into their lives. As the Bible tells us, we were created to be his "help meet." So the way I see it, every time a husband sees his wife, he is to "meet help" and not hindrance. Proverbs 18:22 says we as wives are to be found a "good thing," someone favorable the Lord has given to our husbands. Therefore, we need to empower, elevate and show appreciation for our men, not emasculate them with our attitudes.
Ecclesiastes 9:9 says, "Enjoy life with the wife whom you love all the days of your vain life which He has given you under the sun; because that is your reward in life and in your toil because you have labored under the sun."
