Kathie Lee Gifford Unashamedly Preaches the Gospel as NBC Deals With Disaster - JESSILYN JUSTICE CHARISMA NEWS

Kathie Lee Gifford Unashamedly Preaches the Gospel as NBC Deals With Disaster

Join us on our podcast each weekday for an interesting story, well told, from Charisma News. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

Kathie Lee Gifford took her audience to church after her colleague Matt Lauer was fired from NBC due to sexual misconduct allegations.
"I don't feel that Matt has betrayed us in any way at all, but when I found out that my husband had betrayed me, you question your own judgment," Gifford said on Wednesday's episode of Kathie Lee and Hoda. "You say, 'Was everything a lie?' And I think we have to fight against that, very much fight against that. That the man we know and adored was the man we loved and adored and continue to. I texted [Lauer] this morning and I said, 'I adore you.'"
Gifford's husband, Frank, had an affair during the 1990s, but the couple reconciled and rebuilt their relationship on the Lord.
"No person is perfect in this world," she said. "Nobody is. We've all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, is what Scripture says. And what we need now is forgiveness, and we need mercy for one another. We don't need taunts, and we don't need ugliness. We have enough of that in the world. I send out my love right now to the person, whoever it is, that came forward. May God heal that person. I send it to Matt, and his children and his wife—may God bless that family and heal. I'm sorry, Hoda, but in my long life, the only thing I've ever been sure of is that only God can heal it. And there's no bad time to reach out for his help."
Fellow journalist Garrison Keillor was fired today for inappropriate behavior, just hours after news broke about Lauer. The two are just the latest names to be added to the list of men who allegedly sexually harassed or behaved inappropriately around women.
Gifford continued to point her audience members toward Christ in the wake of headlines announcing prominent men's indiscretions.
"This is a good way to think of it, too," she added. "There was a man—a wonderful, wonderful man who was an adviser to me and Frank through our lifetime—and I had my eyes just on me for a long time, and I was upset and hurt, which you would normally be, like I'm sure Matt's family is. And he said, 'Kathie, if you can't forgive your husband,'—and this is important, you guys—'forgive your children's father.' Same person. Same person, but that's the one you love. That's the one you believe in. We are all so broken. We need somebody to put us back together. And it's possible, it's so possible. I'm living proof of it. Didn't mean to go to church, but that's where we needed to go today."

Jordan Smith Is Crowned The Voice's New Champion

12/15/2015 PEOPLE
Congratulations, Jordan Smith!

On Tuesday, the singer was crowned The Voice's season 9 champion. Emily Ann Roberts placed second, while Barrett Baber and Jeffery Austin rounded out the final four.

After host Carson Daly called his name, Smith, 21, was joined on stage by his coach Adam Levine and family members.

But Smith didn't have long for celebratory hugs. He soon held up the mic and burst into an emotional performance of "Climb Every Mountain." It was a short reminder why his fans – including coaches Blake SheltonGwen Stefani, and Pharrell – fell in love with him after the season debut in September.

Building up to the final reveal on Tuesday, Smith soared alongside Usher while singing the crooner's dance hit "Without You." Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, Coldplay, Missy Elliott, and more stars also took center stage for numbers.

Smith – a Lee University college student from Harlan, Kentucky – caught the coaches' attention with his high-pitched voice by nailing Sia's "Chandelier" during blind auditions. But the highlight of his journey came on Dec. 7, when he delivered a stunning rendition of Queen's "Somebody to Love."

"I don't need to say anything at all because that's one of the best things I've ever seen in my entire life," said Levine.

His recording soon raced to the top of the iTunes chart, ending Adele's five-week reign with "Hello."

"I was actually on the red carpet doing press after the show. We were all checking the charts anyway just to see how everybody was doing," Smith told PEOPLE of discovering his achievement. "I opened my phone and saw it and I almost was moved to tears. It was so incredible!"

He struck gold again on Monday, reclaiming the No. 1 spot on iTunes with his spin on Christmas classic "Mary, Did You Know?".

The latest season of NBC's singing competition has spawned not just chart toppers, but also music's new it couple, Shelton and Stefani.

The Voice will come back for a tenth season in 2016, with Christina Aguilera returning to the lineup of coaches as Stefani takes a break to release new music.

"I don't want Gwen to not be on the show," Shelton recently told Extra of the upcoming season. "Why can't we have a fifth coach?"

The Faith of Dolly Parton - DR. STEVE GREENE CHARISMA NEWS

Dolly Parton's 'Coat of Many Colors'

Dolly Parton's 'Coat of Many Colors' (YouTube)

The Faith of Dolly Parton

There was a good show to watch on television last week. That in itself is news!
NBC released Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors last Thursday and delivered an audience of over 13 million viewers. It was the most watched film on broadcast television in almost five years. The movie is the first in a series of movies based on Dolly's songs.
Alyvia Alyn Lind was cast as the young, 9-year-old ball of fire, Dolly. We watched a 2015 rendition of Little House on the Prairie and cheered for the squirt as she fought, spat, kicked and sang her way through her struggles. She connected.
This movie brought a discussion of faith and family values back into the living rooms of a hurting America. We are desperate for an end to killings and the bad news that flows like a flooded river from our television sets.
To step back into a simpler time and place was therapeutic and encouraging.
The movie spoke often of faith. The message was soft but clearly spoken. I thought about it as a morning devotional. It reminded me of how I want to represent my faith to others. Dolly as a 9-year-old was already a leader in her family and in the classroom. She took stands even if it meant a trip to the woodshed with her father. She was a model of love and acceptance.
The faith of a leader is shown as much by what we won't do as it shows in what we will do.
We need more faith-based movies. More War Rooms and movies like God's Not Dead. The large viewing audience made it clear that we want Christian values in our homes.
The Coat of Many Colors is a welcome nudge into the reason for the season.
Today's Scripture
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Heb 11:1).

She Started Praising Jesus On Jimmy Fallon, How The Crowd Reacted? WOW!

She Started Praising Jesus On Jimmy Fallon, How The Crowd Reacted? WOW!

I’ve been a Jimmy Fallon fan for years, but what gospel singer Yolanda Adams just did on his show will go down as the best performance in the history of The Tonight Show. This gave me chills!

A standing ovation was all that remained after Grammy award-winning gospel singer, Yolanda Adams, performed on The Tonight Show. The 53-year-old (gasp!) singer stole the show with her powerhouse performance of her hit song “Victory” and it was so good that I watched it over and over. Even Jimmy Fallon stumbled over his words after Yolanda brought the worship of a lifetime to liberal NBC!

“Oh my goodness! OH MY GOODNESS!,” Jimmy shouted when Yolanda finished. “Thank you! Oh my goodness! Look at that! Standing ovation right there and why not? Well deserved!”

Yolanda’s flawless voice, the soulful choir, the talented instrumentalists, and the touching lyrics gave me CHILLS! It was so brave of the Texas native to take a stand for Christianity on a notoriously liberal network. Check out some of the lyrics from “Victory” that left the audience cheering.

“Truly I’ve been through the storm and rain. I know everything about heartache and pain. God carried me through it all. Without His protection I’d surely fall. I've been broke without a dime to my name. But all my bills got paid because I called on Jesus name. You can’t tell me that God isn't real ’cause I’ve got the victory and that’s why I'm still here.”

Watch the breathtaking performance right now! Click below.

FLAWLESS! It’s beautiful to see Yolanda share her Christian faith so fearlessly. I can’t think of a more perfect way to glorify God with the talent He blessed her with!

'The Bible Continues' Brings Book of Acts to Life

'The Bible Continues' Brings Book of Acts to Life

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- An epic television series,  "A.D. The Bible Continues," will make its debut on NBC this Easter, April 5.
The series follows on the heels of "The Bible" miniseries, which drew more than 100 million viewers to the History Channel in 2013.
The new network television series picks up where the successful cable miniseries ended: at the death and resurrection of Jesus.
'Game of Thrones'-Esque
Executive co-producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett spoke with CBN News about bringing the pages of the Bible to life for today's viewers.
"Clearly, the story of the Bible, and in the case of 'A.D. The Bible Continues,' the story of the Acts of the Apostles, really grabs people emotionally," Burnett said. "But then you have got to make it very well and execute on the promise. And that is our job. I guess we are probably experts in making television."
Burnett undersells his success. He is the engine behind nearly a dozen television hits, including: "Survivor," "The Apprentice," "The Voice," "Shark Tank," and "The Bible" miniseries.
"When we were filming 'The Bible' series in Morocco, we'd wished we'd had more than 10 hours," Downey said, recalling production for the miniseries.
"We'd wished we'd had 100 hours because the stories are so deep and so rich," she added. "And we decided while we were there that we would take a deeper dive into the Book of Acts."
This 12-hour series takes audiences through the first 10 chapters of the Book of Acts and the first decades following the resurrection of Jesus.
It's an epic production Burnett described it as "Game of Thrones meets the Bible."
Describing that biblical period, Burnett said it was "a very tumultuous and bloody time."
"Those apostles and a growing group of disciples could have been killed at any moment," he said. "It was a power struggle between the Romans, the temple authorities, the zealots. In the middle of it was a group of followers of Jesus who were spreading the word. They could have been killed every day."
No Sugar Coating
Following Christ wasn't popular at that time. And the real-life script is now moving from the Bible and history books to today's headlines.
"Here we have with 'A.D.' so much of the story is about the persecution of the early disciples, and it is easy for people to say that happened 2,000 years ago," Downey said. "But it is happening today. And we need to step up and we need to take care of each other."
In addition to shining a light on biblical persecution, Downy and Burnett have started a fund, called the The Cradle Fund, to help rescue, restore, and eventually return thousands of Middle East Christians who have fled their homes to escape persecution at the hands of the ISIS terror group.
"This fund has managed to bring 72,000 Middle Eastern Christians safely through the winter," Burnett told CBN News. "You know there were 500,000 displaced. Imagine escaping being killed, crucified, in fact, but then to freeze to death in the Syrian winter, Iraqi winter."
"Because of the success of our shows, we have a spotlight that lands on us from time to time and we are just a catalyst and God is the author," Downey added. "But as the light is shining here, we thought it is an opportunity to reflect it back and to make some noise for the persecution of Christian overseas."
That noise will continue as this rare and epic television series plays out on the small screen for at least 12 episodes.
"There are lots of big, epic event series on television. But [on the Bible, there is] only 'The Bible' series and now 'A.D. The Bible Continues,'" Burnett noted. "And so, we are hoping this goes on for many years. We are not thinking of this as one year. We are already in anticipation of great ratings, scripting season two."

Mark Burnett Working on ‘The Bible’ Sequel, to Air on NBC Next Spring

Fans of last year’s record-breaking The Bible have reason for celebration: Major network NBC will air a sequel next year.
Mark Burnett and his wife, Roma Downey, will produce A.D.: Beyond the Bible as a follow-up to their hugely popular miniseries, which aired on the History Channel last spring.
The Bible premiered to 13.1 million viewers, and the 10-hour miniseries beat almost everything else on television. It was the third most-watched cable series or miniseries of the year. NBC is hoping to break that record with the sequel.
“We are firmly in the ‘event’ business and nothing has more event potential than A.D. as it continues immediately after the The Bible ended,” NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement.
The 12-hour miniseries is expected to take up the story of the New Testament after the crucifixion of Jesus, and will contain other elements as well, Burnett told TV Guide Magazine.
“You’ve got parts of the Bible,” Burnett said when asked what will be used as source material for A.D., which is a working title. “Josephus was Jewish and wrote one of the most incredible historical documents [in the first century]. There’s also great archeology and a lot of writing to mine.”
NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke added: “Everyone’s lives were completely altered in an instant and the immediate aftermath of Christ’s death had an impact on his disciples, his mother Mary, and key political and religious leaders of the time. In the first episode alone you see the last moments of the Crucifixion, Judas taking his own life after betraying Christ, Peter denying Jesus three times, and then the miracle of the Resurrection.”
Burnett spoke of series like The Tudors and The Borgias, which both “weave fiction and history, as inspiration,” explained TV Guide Magazine. The magazine asked if this means A.D. will contain some fictional elements and perhaps original characters. Burnett said yes.
“Much the way HBO's Rome did. With the spirit of history. Clearly A.D. is not predominantly Bible stories. This goes beyond that. But we spoke to all our advisers and our huge network, NBC, and they can’t wait for this.”
The producer said A.D. will likely last more than one season.
“It could run in the same way as Game of Thrones, 12 hours year after year. I don't think for a minute that A.D. lasts for just a season,” he explained.
Burnett, who produces The Voice for NBC, also talked about why he picked the network to air his next project.
“I chose NBC because I believe they could turn this into an enormous event,” he said. “This is more than TV for us. When you have the amount of passion that Roma and I have for a subject, you're willing to do anything it takes to launch and make it happen.
According to the Los Angeles Times, British playwright and screenwriter Simon Block will write the series. A director and star have not been set.
In addition to the sequel set for next year, an edited-down movie version of The Bible will be released in theaters Feb. 28. Click here to watch the trailer for Son of God.
