Does CNN's 'Finding Jesus' Tell the Truth About our Savior?

Have you ever lied about a relationship to protect yourself?  Or told close friends you didn't believe them ... about something really important?  Maybe you can identify with Peter or Thomas, subjects of the two remaining episodes in CNN's second season of Finding Jesus: Faith, Fact, Forgery.
"The Bones of St. Peter" airs on April 2; "Doubting Thomas" on April 9.  Each of these two followers of Jesus had their signature flaw.  Each deserted the one they called "Lord."  Once restored, each followed Him with fervor.
Curious about these two?  Here's a short primer that may facilitate your understanding of the CNN programs.
Fishermen Become "Fishers of Men"
Andrew, a fisherman, introduced his brother Peter to Jesus.  As they spent time together, Jesus eventually challenged the brothers plus James and John (also brothers and fishermen) to leave their trade and become "fishers of men."  Peter, James and John became Jesus' closest friends.  Traveling with him, they saw him teach, feed hungry people, heal the sick, deal with opposition.
Impressed with Jesus, Peter later reflected, "He committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth. When He was reviled, He did not revile back; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but He entrusted Himself to Him who judges righteously (1 Pet. 2: 21-23).
If your roommate says that about you, you must be something special. In fact, Peter (originally called Simon) was convinced Jesus was divine: "You are the Messiah," he affirmed, "the Son of the living God." Jesus commended this affirmation and named him Peter, meaning "Rock."
Denial to Dedication
Peter promised Jesus on the night before his crucifixion that even if all others left, he would remain faithful.  Yet within hours, Peter had denied several times— twice to two servant girls—that he even knew Jesus.  Guilt-ridden, he wept bitterly.
Sunday morning, hearing Jesus' tomb was empty, Peter ran there and entered it to confirm.  He later saw Jesus alive, realized he was forgiven, and accepted Jesus' mandate to spread his message.  Emboldened by believing he had seen the resurrected Messiah, he pursued this vigorously, at great risk.  Tradition says he WAS eventually crucified in Rome.
Doubt to Dedication
We don't know if Thomas was born skeptical or cultivated the skill.  Jesus' biographers give us some glimpses of his attitudes.  When the disciples questioned the wisdom of returning to Judea amid threats to Jesus' life, Thomas cynically counseled, "Let us go also, that we may die with Him" (John 11:16b).  After Jesus' arrest, the disciples fled.  Only John and several women were brave enough to show up at the cross.
When the disciples later told Thomas they had seen Jesus alive again after he died, Thomas doubted: "Unless I see the nail prints in His hands, and put my finger in the nail prints, and put my hand in His side, I will not believe." Eight days later, Jesus appeared to Thomas, inviting him to touch his wounds.  "My Lord and my God!" Thomas exclaimed.  Tradition says he took Jesus' message to India, where he was martyred.
Resurrection Liars?
Flawed, failed, forgiven, faithful. Peter and Thomas gave their lives—literally—in Jesus' service.  Cowards became heroes because they believed they had seen the resurrected Christ. Their martyrdom—and that of other disciples—argues loudly against the theory that Jesus' disciples invented the resurrection story.  Someone might willingly die for a lie they believed to be true. If these men were lying about the resurrection, they were dying for what they knew was false.  That's highly unlikely.
CNN's series highlights Peter's and Thomas' lives, also examining whether Peter visited Rome and Thomas, India. Though such questions are interesting for church history, neither outcome affects New Testament reliability. These final two CNN episodes can stimulate thinking about these two influential historical figures.

Believing Is Hard - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Believing Is Hard
- Now Think On This
by Steve Martin

"Immediately the boy's father cried out and said, "I do believe; help my unbelief."
Mark 9:24 NASU

Believing is hard. Having trust that the Lord is going to do what the Lord has said He was going to do, or what today He is saying He will do, is hard at times. Is that true with you? It can be for me.

But just think – weren’t the apostles, the chosen ones who had walked with Jesus for three years right here on earth, yet very doubtful and afraid after Jesus was crucified? They couldn’t, or wouldn’t, believe all that He had told them, about His coming back to life after death, did they?  As it is written in Mark 16:14, “Afterward He appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table; and He reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen Him after He had risen.” NASU

And even later still, just before He ascended, again we read, “But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful.” Matt. 28:16,17 NASU

Some of them had even gone back to their previous jobs, not believing what He had told them directly while with them. Peter, the one who seemed to proclaim the most faith often when walking with Jesus at his side, went back to fishing almost immediately after the crucifixion.

Reading in John 21:1-14, “After these things Jesus manifested Himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and He manifested Himself in this way. Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We will also come with you." They went out and got into the boat; and that night they caught nothing.

But when the day was now breaking, Jesus stood on the beach; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. So Jesus said to them, "Children, you do not have any fish, do you?" They answered Him, "No." And He said to them, " Cast the net on the right-hand side of the boat and you will find a catch." So they cast, and then they were not able to haul it in because of the great number of fish. Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord." So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put his outer garment on (for he was stripped for work), and threw himself into the sea. But the other disciples came in the little boat, for they were not far from the land, but about one hundred yards away, dragging the net full of fish.

So when they got out on the land, they saw a charcoal fire already laid and fish placed on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish which you have now caught."  Simon Peter went up and drew the net to land, full of large fish, a hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not torn.” NAS

David had to seek the Lord’s face often. Scripture lets us see his uncertainty in faith, when he questioned the Lord, needing help for his troubled soul:

“Why do You stand afar off, O Lord?
Why do You hideYourself in times of trouble?
In pride the wicked hotly pursue the afflicted;
Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.” Psalm 10:1-2 NASU

Everybody has their times of doubt and moments of unbelief. Even when I was on staff with a minister who had the gift of healing and miracles, I know he had times when he questioned the Lord’s ability to act or move in a situation.

Each of us wants to have bold faith. We want to believe all that the Lord has spoken, and be a strong Christian, not only for others but for ourselves. We want to experience those situations when the Lord has told us to believe, and we do just that.

But even as the Lord encouraged the apostles each time after their times of unbelief and wavering, He will also have mercy on us, knowing our human frailty and difficulties we endure. That is one reason He has told us to call upon the Holy Spirit, to help us as the Comforter, and the One who will get us through those faith testing times.

It is good to look back months and years later, and see how the Lord has strengthened our faith. It is good to know that even though believing is hard at times, once we have passed through those times, our faith has been exercised and we have grown because of it.

We will be able to believe for even more next time we are called upon to believe.

Palm Sunday came and went a few days ago, but as the Killing Jesus re-enacted it before the scene before cameras, something startling happened.
Alexis Rodney, who played Peter in the televised version of Bill O'Reilly's book, revealed in a podcast that as Christ entered into the streets and extras were shouting "Hosanna!" the Lord really showed up.
"There was a scene where Jesus was fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah ... where he's riding the donkey colt into Jerusalem, and the people are laying the palms on the floor and there was a moment where it reached near rapture," Rodney says on The Church Boys
"The people—they were going to cut, we had finished the scene—these were people in an absolute state of rapture. They were just screaming 'Hosanna!'
"They weren't stopping. They were paid supporting actors ... and the camera operator used his good thinking and just carried on filming ... I felt like a biblical superstar. It was just absolutely amazing."
If a prophetic re-enactment can have that sort of impact on paid actors, what could this mean for the world?
Having a diverse cast allowed the producers to expand the audience to include nonbelievers, Rodney tells The Church Boys.
"It takes in a younger, perhaps more skeptical audience," Rodney says. "It will open up more to them."
And allow them to prepare the way of the risen Lord?

The Road Less Traveled…Making All the Difference by Gale Maiden

The Road Less Traveled…

Making All the Difference

by Gale Maiden

Identity Network

The very well-known poem called The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost speaks powerfully to my heart. Though this poem is titled The Road Not Taken there is another road in this poem which is called the road less traveled. The road less traveled is an unfamiliar road.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, sorry I could not
travel both and be one traveler, long I stood
and looked down one as far as I could
to where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
and having perhaps the better claim
because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
in leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
- Robert Frost

Touched by a Poem

After recently encountering this poem for the first time since my high school days, I was moved by the words of this poem. Just a month before encountering this poem, the Spirit of God spoke to my heart concerning God's need for me to embrace the unfamiliar. This means to me that continuing successful ministry will require choices to travel the less traveled paths and not the well-worn familiar road. The Spirit specifically told me that on the unfamiliar road is where I need to minister. I believe that this is a word for many who are servants and ministers of God.

Joshua…You Have not Passed this Way Before!

I believe that just as Joshua and the leadership of Israel had to embrace a path unknown in order to enter and successfully occupy the Promised Land so must present day leadership. Below is a passage of scripture leading up to the crossing of the Jordan River by Joshua and the Israelites. Even though no one had passed this way before God was giving instructions to Joshua to ensure safe passage over the Jordan to Canaan.

Then Joshua rose early in the morning; and he and all the sons of Israel set out from Shittim and came to the Jordan, and they lodged there before they crossed. At the end of three days the officers went through the midst of the camp; and they commanded the people, saying, "When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God with the Levitical priests carrying it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it."However, there shall be between you and it a distance of about 2,000 cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way (road less traveled) by which you shall go, for you have not passed this way before." Joshua 3:1-4

God here is relaying "road signs" to the children of Israel in order for them to successfully enter the Land of Promise. This was necessary because they were totally unfamiliar with this road. Neither Joshua nor the children of Israel had passed over this road. This was a road chosen by God and would require very attentive hearing ears in order to follow the road signs leading to possession of the full inheritance in the Land of Canaan.

Little did Joshua and the Israelites know that it would take approximately fourteen years along a road less traveled to fully obtain the Land of Promise. This was accomplished by God orchestrated campaigns throughout the Land of Promise launched repeatedly from an encampment at Gilgal.

Gilgal was the first encampment in Canaan located on the west bank of the Jordan River, less than a stone's throw from where they were told that they had never passed this way before.

Apostles Paul and Peter Chose Roads Less Traveled

There are many Biblical instances where choices were made to follow a God given road less traveled; these righteous choices continue making all the difference for the good in the outcome of the destinies of many.

Saul of Tarsus, later named Paul, a Jew among Jews was presented the choice of leaving his familiar environment of Judaism to minister in the unfamiliar world of Gentiles.

The Apostle Peter an unlearned and uneducated fisherman was called and sent down the road of unfamiliarity as an Apostle to the Jews.

Must I detail the unfathomable Godly difference in the kingdom of God today as a result of these two Apostles righteous choices to go the way of unfamiliarity?

Dangers along a Road of Familiarity: Familiarity Breeds Contempt

A known road is one in which travelers might very well grow to depend on familiar and past road signs instead of accepting the challenge of the need to be alert to new road signs. Does familiarity breed contempt? Contempt argues that "my" familiar way is the only way to successfully travel. Unfortunately this contempt for the signs given by an ever-present God in order to lead us down the less traveled road is rampant in the present day church. This contempt is called "religion".

God is much better served, not by our familiarity or experience from a well-traveled road, but from our familiarity with Him. God is able to guide us down the less traveled road!

The road chosen by God for us is one which Frost says is grassy and desires wear. Unfamiliar roads desire to be trodden down with steps of those willing to walk this way. I believe that only those who are willing to follow God down an unfamiliar path will as Robert Frost said, "Make all the difference."

Possible Characteristics of a Present Day Road Less Traveled

The unfamiliar road chosen by God for us needless to say could have an infinite number of characteristics. I am seeing that one of the unfamiliar characteristics of a road less worn could be in the area of a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God. God is truth and desires truth in our inward parts.

I believe that the hand-me-down traditions which have for two thousand years nullified the truth and liberty desired for the church is being now challenged as never before. This path or road of revelation is a road less traveled and is now challenging the very heart of thought to be established doctrines; doctrines which for the most part aren't producing a true witness to the works given to us by our Father God.

This present life changing unfamiliar revelation is nothing new but rather a rediscovery of the profound simplicity of the word of God. Rejoice and prepare to be shaken to the core. God recently told me to tell the body of Christ that there is presently a post script written on the heart of every believer. PS is an acronym for profoundly simple.

Also just as Joshua and the Apostle Paul were called geographically down an unfamiliar road less traveled so will many of us hear the voice of God calling us to other locations with which we are totally unfamiliar.

May this poem and article challenge our heart unto consistent reexamination to see if we be on the faith road of unfamiliarity?

To those of us with a pioneering spirit this word is a glorious boost on to a road which will make "all the difference" to the world.

The Death of Jesus and His Disciples

The Death of Jesus Christ (Yeshua HaMashiach) and His Disciples

The Death of Jesus

For the next 60 seconds, set aside whatever You're doing and take this opportunity! Let's see if Satan can stop this.
THE (SCIENTIFIC) DEATH OF JESUS

At the age of 33, Jesus was condemned to death.

At the time Crucifixion was the "worst" death. Only the worst criminals were condemned to be crucified.

Yet it was even more dreadful for Jesus, unlike other criminals condemned to death by Crucifixion. Jesus was to be nailed to the Cross by His hands and feet. Each nail was 6 to 8 inches long. The nails were driven into His wrist. Not into His palms as is commonly portrayed.

There's a tendon in the wrist that extends to the shoulder. The Roman guards knew that when the nails were being hammered into the wrist that tendon would tear and break; forcing Jesus to use His back muscles to support himself so that He could breath.

Both of His feet were nailed together. Thus He was forced to Support Himself on the single nail that impaled His feet to the cross. Jesus could not support himself with His legs because of the pain so He was forced to alternate between arching His back then using his legs just to continue to breath.

Imagine the struggle, the pain, the suffering, the courage.

Jesus endured this Reality for over 3 hours. Yes, Over 3 hours!

Can you imagine this kind of suffering? A few minutes before He died, Jesus stopped bleeding. He was simply pouring water from his wounds. From common images we see wounds to His hands and feet and even the spear wound to His side... But do we realize His wounds were actually made in his body.

A hammer driving large nails through the wrist, the feet overlapped and an even larger nail hammered through the arches, then a Roman guard piercing His side with a spear. But before the nails and the spear Jesus was whipped and beaten. The whipping was so severe that it tore the Flesh from His body.

The beating was so horrific that His Face was torn and his beard ripped from His face. The Crown of thorns cut deeply into His scalp.

Most men would not have survived this torture. "He had no more blood to bleed out, only water poured from His wounds. The human adult body contains about 3.5 liters (just less than a gallon) of blood.

Jesus poured all 3.5 Liters of his blood; He had three nails hammered into His members; a crown of thorns on His head and, beyond that, a Roman soldier who stabbed a spear into His chest.

All these without mentioning the humiliation He suffered after carrying His own Cross for almost 2 kilometers, while the crowd spat in his face and threw stones (the cross was almost 30 kg of weight, only for its higher part, where His hands were nailed).

Jesus had to endure this experience, to open the Gates of Heaven, so that you can have free Access to God; so that your sins could be "washed" away.

All of them, with no exception! Don't ignore this situation.

JESUS CHRIST DIED FOR YOU!

       I Love You

He will return the 2nd time as the Lion of Judah

He died for you! It is easy to pass jokes or foolish photos by e-mail, but when it comes to God, sometimes you feel ashamed to forward to others because you are worried of what they may think about you.

God has plans for you. Show all your friends what He experienced to save you. Now think about this! May God bless your life!

60 Seconds with God... For the next 60 Seconds, set aside what you're doing and take this opportunity! Let's see if Satan can stop this.

He said (Matthew 10:32 & 33): "Everyone therefore who acknowledges me before others, I also will acknowledge before My Father in heaven; but whosoever denies Me before others, I also will deny before My Father in heaven".

Yes, I love God. He is my source of life and my Savior. He keeps me alive day
and night. Without Him, I am nothing, but with Him "I can do all things through Him Who strengthens me". Philippians 4:13.

This is the simple proof. If you love God and you are a believer and trust in salvation through Christ Jesus, share this with all those you love if you want to.

And now for His disciples, Apostles in the faith.

1. Matthew
Suffered martyrdom in Ethiopia, Killed by a sword wound.

2. Mark
Died in Alexandria, Egypt, after being dragged by Horses through the streets until he was dead.

3. Luke
Was hanged in Greece as a result of his tremendous peaching to the lost.

4 John
Faced martyrdom when he was boiled in huge Basin of boiling oil during a wave of persecution In Rome. However, he was miraculously delivered from death. John was then sentenced to the mines on the prison Island of Patmos.

He wrote his prophetic Book of Revelation on Patmos. The apostle John was later freed and returned to serve as Bishop of Edessa in modern Turkey. He died as an old man, the only apostle to die peacefully.

5. Peter
He was crucified upside down on an x-shaped cross. According to church tradition it was because he told his tormentors that he felt unworthy to die in the same way that Jesus Christ had died.

6 James
The leader of the church in Jerusalem was thrown over a hundred feet down from the southeast pinnacle* of the Temple when he refused to deny his faith in Christ. When they discovered that he survived the fall, his enemies beat James to death with a fuller's club. * This was the same pinnacle where Satan had taken Jesus during the Temptation.

7. James the Great
Son of Zebedee, was a fisherman by trade when Jesus Called him to a lifetime of ministry. As a strong leader of the church, James was ultimately beheaded at Jerusalem. The Roman officer who guarded James watched amazed as James defended his faith at his trial. Later, the officer walked beside James to the place of execution. Overcome by conviction, he declared his new faith to the judge and knelt beside James to accept beheading as a Christian.

8. Bartholomew
Also known as Nathaniel was a missionary to Asia. He witnessed for our Lord in present day Turkey. Bartholomew was martyred for his preaching in Armenia where he was flayed to death by a whip.

9. Andrew
He was crucified on an x-shaped cross in Patras, Greece. After being whipped severely by seven soldiers they tied his body to the cross with cords to prolong his agony. His followers reported that, when he was led toward the cross, Andrew saluted it in these words: 'I have long desired and expected this happy hour. The cross has been consecrated by the body of Christ hanging on it.' He continued to preach to his tormentors For two days until he expired.

10. Thomas
Was stabbed with a spear in India during one of his missionary trips to establish the church in the Sub-continent.

11. Jude
Was killed with arrows when he refused to deny his faith in Christ.

12. Matthias
The apostle chosen to replace the traitor Judas Iscariot was stoned and then beheaded.

13. Paul
Was tortured and then beheaded by the evil Emperor Nero at Rome in A.D. 67. Paul endured a lengthy imprisonment, which allowed him to write his many epistles to the churches he had formed throughout the Roman Empire.

These letters, which taught many of the foundational Doctrines of Christianity, form a large portion of the New Testament. Perhaps this is a reminder to us that our sufferings here are indeed minor compared to the intense persecution and cold cruelty faced by the apostles and disciples during their times for the sake of the Faith. "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: But he that endureth to the end shall be saved." Matthew

Faith is not believing that God can; it is knowing that God WILL!

JESUS CHRIST DIED FOR YOU!

All you have to do is:

1. Pray for the person who sent this message to you
2. Then, send this message to people, the more the better.
3. People will pray for you and you will make that many people pray to God for other people .
4. Take a moment to appreciate the power of God in your life, for doing what pleases Him.

If you are not ashamed to do this, please, follow Jesus' instructions.
