His name was Charlie. New message by Steve Martin from Jerusalem

Oct. 19, 2025

Greetings to you once again.

We made it, basically with no hassles, to the Land of His Chosen people, the Jews, here in Jerusalem, Israel. Laurie and I are blessed, as Moses Julius likes to say from Pakistan.

For the first four nights we are staying in a hotel before moving into the CFI (Christian Friends of Israel) apartment in southeast Jerusalem. I like this "hole in the wall" 150 year old hotel building. It is located in the heart of Jerusalem where the "action" is. Read below to know more.

Ahava and shalom always to you,

Steve and Laurie Martin

P.S. I am thinking about doing two emails a week from Jerusalem? Good with you?

Israel Photo of the Week: My 85 year old friend Avraham Saidien really likes the new book I gave him yesterday, with his photo on the cover. His son David said he started having symptons of dementia two years ago. I love Avraham, ever since I met him 20 years ago in his Jerusalem shop. (Oct. 17, 2025 on Ben Yehuda Street in Jerusalem, Israel.)

His Name Was Charlie

“Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink?” Matthew 25:37, NASB

You can see a lot of things in the city of Jerusalem when the sun goes down. Especially around Zion Square on the corner of Jaffa Street and Ben Yehuda. When the day people go home, the night ones come out.

Waking up at 3:30 am has become somewhat of a routine for me. Sure, I get 5-6 hours of sleep nightly, and then throughout the day I call on the Name of the Lord for strength and endurance. So, when I continue that trend here in Jerusalem, He has His Holy Spirit lead me to ones I would never see in the daylight. For they are ones who like the nightlife.

As I sat on the wooden bench, listening to young “Mary”, with no socks on in the cool 58F temperature (cold for me, even with t-shirt, sweater and my new Iowa Hawkeyes hoodie on) sing along out loud to some song on her phone, Charlie walked up to me.

“Grocery store” as he pointed up Ben Yehuda Street. I immediately knew what he meant. The “24/6” corner market was open. He wanted, most likely needed, some food.

So, with his three garbage bags of his life belongings over his shoulder, I walked with him four blocks uphill to the store. A few minutes later, as I watched him carefully, he chose items from the shelves, including lunch meat, potato chips, two plastic cups of yogurt, and some bottled tea. He didn’t want the apple I tried giving him.

Then he laid the selections on the checkout counter, and I paid the $9.54 (with my US credit card in shekels before conversion). Then I left him, to walk back down the street to hear “Mary” singing louder.

Would I have done that in Charlotte, North Carolina? Maybe not. I would have just given the street man a dollar bill or so. But here, it seems different.

This is where Yeshua (Jesus) did what He now asks us to do. Follow in His footsteps. I am seeking to do so. Literally. Feed the poor, pray for the sick. Do it all in the Name of the Lord, who came to bring life to all.

“If there is a poor person among you, one of your brothers, in any of your towns in your land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand from your poor brother;” Deut. 15:7, NASB

When He speaks to your spirit, hear and obey. You will walk in adventure and give life to others too.

Ahava (love) and Shalom (peace),

Steve Martin

P.S. Laurie and I arrived in Jerusalem, Israel on Oct. 16, 2025, for three months. We will be serving with Christian Friends of Israel, entering their 41st year in Jerusalem walking among the Jews and more. We too will walk in faith and believe in the Lord to show Himself strong on our behalf. You can read further here: The Martins in Jerusalem

Message #1 in my Jerusalem 2025 series: “His Name Was Charlie" – Oct. 19, 2025

My latest book was published on Aug. 18, 2025. Love For His People" Steve Martin (444 pages, 372 photos/images)

Remained #1 on the Amazon New Releases List for "Jerusalem Travel Guides" for a month. (I love taking people with me to the Land of Israel.)

In several of my previous 38 books, I wrote stories and chapters on Israel and our friends in the Land. Their lives, their courage, and the Ahava Adventures we have had, sharing our time with them in Eretz Yisrael.

In my desire to share these stories with you in a more concise manner, I have chosen the “best ones” and included in my book, “Love For His People – The Land and Friends in Israel”. (Aug. 2025)

Having given 39 years so far (and this being my 39th book!) to loving and supporting the Chosen People, as the Living God of Israel so ordained throughout the Bible of Christians and the Jewish people, it is proper and time to publish.

Sharing this book, containing some of my experiences in Jerusalem and all of Israel, is a joy, and also a promise to always stand with Israel. I know it will stir your heart as He reveals more of His plans for all.

Special Note: I have reduced the price on the hard cover and paperback, to just over my cost. I want you to have one. I will receive minimal royalty.

"It was there for the last 22 years." New message from Steve Martin, Love For His People Ministry

The luggage strap of Bible teacher Derek Prince (died in 2003 in Jerusalem, Israel)

“He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him.” Daniel 2:22, NKJV

On Sept. 30, 2025, as I was looking in my bedroom closet to see what else I had in our travel storage bins, for anything I could yet use on my 30th trip to Jerusalem, Israel, I was “shocked” when I found an extra luggage strap among several in the third bin from the stacked top. When I looked at the tag under the plastic area to make sure it had my current information (our address hadn’t changed in 30 years) Derek Prince’s name and address were on it! Wow! This luggage tag is over 22 years old. I must have forgotten that this strap had been his and I now have it.

To have served on Derek Prince’s international home base office with Derek Prince Ministries, as Director of Operations and Finance, for a total of eight years, first in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for three years (1987-1990) and then again in Charlotte, North Carolina (2000-2005), this has special meaning to me.

The luggage tag has his Jerusalem address written on a yellow piece of paper, enclosed under the plastic cover. It appears to be his handwriting. (See comparative photos below.)

When we are in Jerusalem for three months, Oct. 16-Jan. 12, 2026, we will be living in an apartment just a mile from his final home of 15 years in Jerusalem. He passed on to glory in 2003.

When I then turned the name tag over, just to see what was on the other side, if anything, it had a USA home address in the Fort Lauderdale area (Plantation, FL), where he also resided during the 1980s. The address written was 201 SW 38th Ave. in Plantation, Florida, a suburb. (This may have been David and Anna Selby’s home address, for security reasons.) It also appears to be printed in Derek’s handwriting.

When we moved from Michigan to Florida in August of 1987, we lived in a rental home in Plantation on 17th Ave, not too far from this address printed on the back.

David, the International Director of Derek Prince Ministries, son-in-law of Derek, and my boss for a total of eight years, must have given me Derek’s luggage strap after his passing. I will save this strap!

(The printed name appears to be in Derek’s handwriting, when I compare it to the other autographs I have of him. His greeting and signature to me in his Foundation Series book in 1988 also matches, as does the office memo to David Selby, the International Director, regarding an edit.)

Derek also had a condominium in Hawaii that he and his wife Ruth used when he taught annually in January at YWAM (YOUTH WITH A MISSION) for a month. He must have bought this strap there, for it has “Hawaii” on the end.

The state of Hawaii embossed at the end of the luggage strap.

So, what is the big deal?

First, to have in my possession a piece of history, a luggage strap used by my favorite Bible teacher, Derek Prince, whom I served on his staff, is priceless to me. To know that this strap went with him all over the world, and especially to Jerusalem, Israel, is a “sign” to me of the Lord’s hand on my life too, as I also travel to Jerusalem often. A part of his legacy I am living.

Second, to know that the Lord directs our steps, each of us, is heartfelt. The One who is so gracious to show us “small signs” of His blessings through directive actions, as ordained and carried out by the Holy Spirit, means a lot to me.

I bless and honor the legacy of Derek Prince, especially his love for the Land and people of Israel. He blazed the trail for many of us in the 1970s-2000s, in biblical understanding and especially the truth about God’s chosen people, as he lived what he believed as Bible truth.

I bless the Lord Yeshua for allowing my good wife Laurie and I to serve in Eretz Y’israel (Land of Israel is Hebrew) as we have and will continue to do, even as the Lord leads.

Ahava (love) and Shalom (peace),

Steve Martin

This got our attention. "Expecting the Possibility" - New message from Steve Martin, Love For His People

1-Newsmallerwithshadow-png.png

Sept. 17, 2025

Greetings to you once again.

We all know it was a tough week as a mighty warrior for the Lord Jesus was assassinated. Charlie Kirk served faithfully, and his promised reward was given in heaven. Good for you, Charlie. We too stand with you and family.

My message below, "Expecting the Possibility", is not for the faint of heart. But we must be ready. I hope you are along with me.

Ahava and Shalom,

Steve Martin

Love For His People Ministry

P.S. The day draws nigh. Our upcomg three month volunteer trip to Israel for Laurie and I is Oct. 15, 2025-Jan. 12, 2026. Please be praying for us. We sure would appreciate that.

Israel Photo of the Week: Orthodox Rabbi Tuly Weisz, Founder of TeachForIsrael, Israel365, and the editor of "The Israel Bible", was very hospitable to me while in their office in Bet Shemesh, Israel, on Nov. 8, 2022. I was even invited to stay for their weekly special staff lunch. Sushi!

Expecting the Possibility

“When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been killed because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained;” (Revelation 6:9, NASB)

As the days get darker, and the light continues to fade in the spiritual realm in many circles, there comes the time when believers in Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach, must know of the possibilities facing us. We are in a spiritual battle, and it is not going away anytime soon. We won’t be raptured out of here before that time, and we too may be martyred before the Lord’s return to Jerusalem. (I hope you don’t stop reading…)

It has happened since the time of Yeshua’s death on the cross, and to the followers that carried on His message of repentance, forgiveness, and everlasting life that follows this life on earth. For those who believe until the end; for those who do not turn their backs on the truth in His Word, that is the promise we hold onto. Others will not.

“Don’t be naive. There are difficult times ahead. As the end approaches, people are going to be self-absorbed, money-hungry, self-promoting, stuck-up, profane, contemptuous of parents, crude, coarse, dog-eat-dog, unbending, slanderers, impulsively wild, savage, cynical, treacherous, ruthless, bloated windbags, addicted to lust, and allergic to God. They’ll make a show of religion, but behind the scenes they’re animals. Stay clear of these people. (2 Timothy 3:1-5, The Message)

Charlie Kirk, the young man of 31, married to Erika with two kids under the age of 4, was martyred on Sept. 10, 2025, because of his faith in the Lord Jesus, and his stand for biblical principles, including Israel. The Lord had given him a strong message of faith, conviction, and courage to take to his generation, and it will continue as promised by his wife and staff of Turning Point USA. And I do hope many others will pick up this mantle and do the same.

Personally, when my wife and I went on a Bible-carrying trip to China, as undercover “tourists” in 2002 with Derek Prince Ministries, I was prepared, even then of the possibility of not coming back, should we have been caught by the Communist government. The ten of us from the USA and the UK, carrying Mandarin Chinese Bibles and Derek’s translated books, snuck in these precious, truth-bearing materials to the underground church leaders. If caught, they and us would have faced dire consequences.

Prior to departure, I left a note in my DPM office desk, saying that if I do not return, what to do with my belongings. Not so great of a will at the time, but true. I included the word “martyrdom” as I believed it was a possibility and was prepared for it.

I still am today.

We must expect the possibility and be prepared for it. As the Lord calls us to stand for His truth in a world of hatred and violence, don’t be deceived thinking otherwise.

Determine now that you will be among the ones standing for the Lord and on His Word.

Ahava (love) and Shalom (peace),

Steve Martin
