This is a critical moment in Jewish-Christian relations, and sadly, not a positive one. Let me explain what happened over the past two months in my country, Israel, because it is huge and most Christians outside Israel have no idea what they're looking at.
First, some background: If you want to understand Jewish identity in one image, it's this: Friday evening, the country exhales. Shops close. Buses stop. In Jerusalem, an entire city goes quiet in a way you have to stand in to believe.
This isn't a rabbinic invention. It's Sinai: "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor... but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God" (Exodus 20:8-10).
God calls it a sign between Him and Israel forever (Exodus 31:16-17). Jeremiah stood in the gates of Jerusalem and said, do not carry a load through these gates on Shabbat (Jeremiah 17:21-22).
Nehemiah shut the city gates himself to stop merchants from trading on Shabbat, and threatened to arrest the ones who camped outside the wall waiting for sundown (Nehemiah 13:15-22). Commerce on Shabbat in Jerusalem was the Gentile's business, never the Jew's.
Thousands of years. Exile, pogroms, poverty. Jews still closed their shops on Shabbat. It cost them jobs, customers, sometimes their lives.
Now here is what happened: For the past several weeks, Israel has been consumed by protests in central Jerusalem over one café that decided to open on Saturday. A hundred ultra-Orthodox men on one side, offended by the breaking of the Holy Shabbat; a hundred Israeli atheists/seculars on the other; police in between. Every weekend. And every news outlet in the country has covered it for weeks now.
Like most Israelis, I assumed this was another provocation by militant secularists, because "Pink Front" activists were in the photos too. I don't pick sides in these fights.
Both camps in this already highly polarized country have learned to enjoy hating each other, and joining either camp helps no one. I think most Israelis stay out of it because they don't want to side with either extreme.
Then, over the last week, the truth came out, and it was a big surprise to most.
The café is run by Jews for Jesus.
Context for my non-Israeli readers: "Jews for Jesus" is an American Evangelical missionary organization, mostly Evangelical Calvinist/Baptist in its theology, devoted to bringing their version of the gospel to Jewish people so they become Evangelicals.
I want to be careful here. I have friends in that organization. I believe their hearts are in the right place. They are good people. The man managing the café is someone I have known personally for almost 20 years, a genuinely wonderful human being, ordained in a Lutheran church, and I disagree with much of his theology but not with his sincerity. Everyone has the right to share their message. I share mine. That is not my objection.
My objection is this.
Catholics do not call themselves Jews, even though in Israel many Catholics carry Jewish blood. Orthodox Christians do not call themselves Jews either, even though in Israel many of them, in fact, are.
But the Evangelicals in Israel do call themselves "Messianic Jews." Not privately, but as your public identity, your organizational name, your entire strategy. "Messianic Judaism." "Messianic Jews." "Jews for Jesus."
You go out of your way to convince other Jews that you are part of the family, which is a little strange, since you are the one at the table telling everyone else that your God will burn them forever unless they adopt your specific version of the faith, a version that happens to look identical to the Evangelical-Calvinist one.
Take only a quick look at "Messianic" theology, and you will notice it has very little to do with Judaism and everything to do with standard Evangelical doctrine, mostly Calvinist or Pentecostal, imported wholesale.
That's also the theology taught by all the messianic seminaries in Israel to messianic leaders, and Evangelical seminaries are where all messianic leaders went to school.
Now, when you take the single most visible, most costly, most sacred, most ancient marker of Jewish faithfulness, the Shabbat, and you publicly break it in the religious capital of the Jewish people, you have not made a bold witness for Messiah. Not for the one who Himself kept the Shabbat.
This is not merely a marketing fiasco for the Messianic movement in Israel right now. It publicly proves Judaism's points that Christians do not play honestly, and that the Messianic movement isn't Jewish.
By opening your Cafe on the Sabbath in the middle of Jerusalem, you have made a clear statement in the name of the Messianic/Evangelical movement: "We do not respect Judaism." And honestly, it's not even a Jewish thing you disrespect. It's a Biblical thing: “Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you." (Deuteronomy 5:12).
Jews for Jesus have formally handed the Jewish anti-missionaries their argument, gift-wrapped. They have been saying for decades that Messianic Jews are just Evangelicals pretending to be Jewish. This month, Jews for Jesus proved it publicly, on national television.
Since I have friends among the leadership, I tried to talk them out of this myself. I asked their leadership to close their cafe on the Sabbath, and I reasoned with them. One of their leaders, a truly wonderful human being whom I would trust with my own child's life, answered that Yeshua Himself broke the Sabbath when His disciples plucked grain on Shabbat.
But that is a wrong and, in fact, poor example; What they broke was the Pharisees' tradition that counted plucking grain as a violation, not the Shabbat itself. Not the Law of Moses.
That makes for a very weak proof-text, especially for a "Jewish" ministry of Jesus-followers wanting to open a cafe on the Shabbat, in Jewish Jerusalem of all places.
And when Yeshua broke traditions, He never did it to spite them. He did it for the sake of mercy, every single time. He healed a man. He let His hungry disciples eat. He reminded them that the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. Not once did He break it for the sake of revenue or spite. And the one time He did storm into a holy space over what was being done there, it was to drive out commerce, not to bring it in. He literally flipped the tables over.
Then there is Paul, the great contextualizer. Read what he actually did. Acts 21. The elders in Jerusalem tell him that Jewish believers have heard rumors that he teaches Jews to forsake Moses. Their solution is not "let them be offended; the gospel is offensive." Their solution is: go purify yourself publicly, pay for the vows, so that everyone will know there is nothing to these reports and that you yourself live in observance of the Law. Paul did it. The apostle of grace paid money to prove he had not abandoned Jewish practice, probably because he felt he was one himself.
“More than the Jews have kept the Shabbat, the Shabbat has kept the Jews.”
— Ahad Ha’am (Asher Ginsberg)
Dear Jews for Jesus, you cannot win the Jewish people by publicly desecrating the one practice that has kept them a people for thousands of years. The reputational damage you are doing to the Jewish Messiah right now is hard to put into words.
The gospel is offensive enough on its own. A crucified Messiah is a scandal, and it always will be. But this is not that offense. This is a self-inflicted wound, an unnecessary insult that costs you the very hearing you're trying to earn. And the fruit is exactly what you'd expect. Not curiosity. Not conversation. Two radical crowds screaming at each other outside your door. And you've seen it going for five weeks now, and yet you refuse to close the cafe.
I don't say this from a distance or with any pleasure. I say it as a Jewish Israeli who believes in Yeshua, watching my messianic brothers spending tens of millions of dollars every year, making our shared witness harder for all of us. No wonder so many young people are leaving the Messianic movement...
Only one Israeli Christian that I know of spoke about this publicly. He happens to be the one and only Hebrew-speaking Christian influencer, and in a video that went viral, he openly called on Jews for Jesus to close their cafe on Shabbat (making similar arguments to mine). One of the top comments beneath it, written by a Jew, read: "Who would have believed a Christian would strengthen my faith more than almost any rabbi." Another said: "Look, a Christian giving over words of Torah," a Jewish way of saying he was speaking godly truth.
Dear Messianic brothers, you won't earn Jewish respect by trampling over the Shabbat. Please close your Jerusalem cafe on Shabbat and consider releasing a public apology to the Jewish people. A secular business making that choice is a different thing entirely from a mission whose whole claim is Jewish faithfulness and relevancy.

Shalom my friends.
If you have been a reader of my blog, “Morning Place To Be” you were aware (or not) of how that site began.
(See here: www.MorningPlaceToBe.blogspot.com)
Back in August 2025 my great brother-in-law, Nate Rovenstine (extraordinary pastor, Wesleyan District Suoervisor, husband, father, grandpa…) in Lawrence, Kansas, told me about the Panera Bread “Get Sipping” Club.
For only $4.95 a month, you could go and get a coffee, tea, fountain drink (soda) every two hours. Wow!!!
And so when I got back to Charlotte, North Carolina, a few days later, I joined. Faithfully goi g almost every morning around 6 am for a dark roast and a blueberry bagel.
Well…Panera Bread accountants got wise, informed the main man (or woman) and said the monthly program had to change.
Now…once a day (30/month) for the monthly subscription of $15.95.
With my upcoming six week volunteer trip to Israel again in September with Christian Friends of Israel, today, Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026, is my final cup.
To Nate! Yeah Lord!
Ahava and Shalom,

Last Sunday night during worship, I got a picture of a hand massaging a heart.
While at the same time I kept hearing one word:
“CLEAR.”
Not once—but three times.
At first, I wasn’t sure what the Lord was saying. Then I heard Him say:
“You live in the heartland.”
I began to see a picture of defibrillator paddles being placed over the Midwest—especially over the Ohio River Valley region. Of course, living in Indiana, my focus was drawn strongly to our state.
As I shared what I was hearing and seeing with the intercessors, I was thankful we had 2 nurses in the room. They began explaining that in heart surgery when the patient is taken off of bypass- they massage the heart. (I had no idea)
They also explained what happens when someone’s heart goes into a life-threatening rhythm and the medical team prepares to use defibrillator paddles.
They were sharing before the shock is delivered, everyone must move away from the patient, and the warning is given:
“CLEAR!” 3 times! (I had no idea)
The shock is released to interrupt the abnormal electrical rhythm so the heart has an opportunity to return to a life-sustaining rhythm. If the heart does not respond as needed, the process can be repeated while the medical team continues working to restore an effective heartbeat.
Then I heard the Lord say:
“I AM shocking the rhythm of the heartland with My heart again.”
As they were explaining this, something began to come alive in the room.
We began to declare:
CLEAR over Indiana.
CLEAR over the Ohio River Valley.
CLEAR over the Great Lakes region.
CLEAR over the heartland.
CLEAR over the Midwest.
CLEAR over the United States of America.
We sensed that something was happening in the Spirit, although at that moment we did not fully understand the weight of what God was showing us.
As I spent time with the Lord this week, praying over the picture I saw, I began to ponder;
Could it be that God is resuscitating Indiana again?
Could it be that God is resuscitating the Heartland ?
Could it be that God is awakening the heart of America again?
Could it be that He is reopening the heart of this nation to His presence, His purposes, and His remnant?
Indiana is the “Crossroads of America,” but we also live in the heartland of this nation.
I believe God is speaking to the Heart of His people in this hour.
The issue is not merely geography.
It is rhythm.
It is alignment.
It is the heartbeat of His Church coming back into agreement with the heartbeat of the Father, for His original intent.
There are things that have caused the Church to beat out of rhythm—such as division, offense, greed, compromise, fear, apathy, prayerlessness, competition, political division, denominational walls, disappointment, weariness, blatant sin and the distractions of this age.
I believe there is a sound going forth in the atmosphere:
CLEAR! CLEAR! CLEAR!
Clear away everything that has hindered us Father, everything that hinders the Body of Christ.
CLEAR! CLEAR! CLEAR!
Clear away everything that has silenced prayer.
CLEAR! CLEAR! CLEAR!
Clear away everything that has contaminated the land and caused the Church to lose the rhythm of Your heartbeat, the heartbeat of Heaven.
This is not about condemning the Church.
It is about resuscitating the Church.
It is the mercy of God calling His people back into alignment with His heart.
God is restoring the heartbeat of America, and He is beginning with the heart of His Church.
The Church MUST beat with His heart again.
A heart for His presence.
A heart for holiness.
A heart for truth.
A heart for prayer.
A heart for repentance.
A heart for one another.
A heart for the lost.
A heart for the harvest.
A heart that cries, “Your Kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.”
So today we decree:
We decree the heart of the Church is being restored.
We decree that every rhythm contrary to the heart of God is being interrupted.
We decree that prayer is rising in the houses of God again.
We decree that repentance is returning to the house of God.
We decree that unity is being restored in the Body of Christ.
We declare that the wells of revival and awakening is open again.
We decree, from this place, that the heartland will beat with the heart of God again.
We say, from Indiana, through the Ohio River Valley, throughout the Great Lakes region, across the heartland and into the United States of America, and beyond…. we release the sound:
CLEAR! CLEAR! CLEAR!
We say CLEAR to division.
We say CLEAR to compromise.
We say CLEAR to prayerlessness.
We say CLEAR to everything that has caused the Body of Christ to beat out of rhythm with the Father.
And we declare:
God is restoring the heartbeat of America.
We decree the heart of the Church is being restored.
We say, “CLEAR! CLEAR! CLEAR!” to the Church.
Come back into rhythm with Heaven.
Come back into rhythm with the Father.
Come back into rhythm with His heart.
America, let your heart beat with His heart again.
In Jesus’ name.

To the UK, France, & Canada: Go Shove It
You sanctimonious, hypocritical cowards. How dare you threaten the one Jewish state on earth—after everything your nations did to us.
You dare speak of “humanitarian values” while standing on piles of Jewish bones your ancestors buried beneath cobblestones, cathedrals, and charters of “civilized” nations.
Britain
Oh, Britain. The empire that carved up the Middle East with a pencil and a gin and tonic. You issued the Balfour Declaration and then slammed the door on Jewish refugees fleeing the Nazis.
You handed chunks of Jewish land to Arab monarchs and let Jews die in the Holocaust rather than let them enter your precious Mandate.
You interned with Holocaust survivors in Cyprus like they were criminals. And now you’re wagging your colonial finger at Jews for building homes on our ancestral hills?
Go shove your royal hypocrisy back into Buckingham Palace and deal with your own collapsing society—where knife crime, antisemitism, and Islamic extremism are more common than fish and chips.
France
Liberté, égalité, fraternité—unless you’re a Jew. You deported over 75,000 Jews to their deaths during the Holocaust with the full cooperation of the French Vichy regime.
You let them be shoved into cattle cars from the Vel d’Hiv while Parisians watched. And after the war? No justice. No reckoning. Just decades of indifference and empty words.
Today, Jews are being stabbed in the streets of France, synagogues are under military guard, and you still have the audacity to lecture us about morality?
You couldn’t defend your own republic from a gang of jihadists in a van, but now you want to dictate how Israel defends itself from genocidal terrorists hiding behind human shields?
You are morally bankrupt and culturally collapsing. Go lecture someone else while your republic burns.
Canada
Oh Canada—America’s cold, smug, spineless cousin. Your “moral high ground” is a snow-covered hill of lies. You locked Jewish refugees out during the Holocaust.
The ship St. Louis begged for your mercy. You sent them back—to die. “None is too many,” your officials said. That’s your legacy. Your history.
And today, your politicians pose for photo ops in mosques that glorify martyrs while denouncing Israel for fighting genocidal killers.
You’ve turned your universities into Hamas fan clubs and your Parliament into a circus of virtue signalling. You host terrorists in suits and call it diplomacy. You abandoned the Jews when we were stateless, and now you want to punish us for defending our state?
Here’s Our Response:
We’re not the broken, stateless Jews of 1942. We’re the sovereign people of Israel—armed, aware, and unapologetic. Your sanctions are a joke. Your threats are meaningless. Your moral lectures are garbage. We don’t need your permission to live. We don’t need your validation to fight.
You allowed Jewish blood to soak your soil for centuries. Now that Jews fight back, build, thrive—you clutch your pearls?
Israel doesn’t need your empty Western democracy. We have something older, holier, and stronger: truth, covenant, survival.
Go shove your resolutions where the sun doesn’t shine.
We’re not going anywhere.
And next time you dare threaten the Jewish state—
Remember who we are now.

Derek Prince spoke very critically about Islam as a religious system, while also saying he had compassion for Muslim people. His comments came from an explicitly conservative Christian theological viewpoint and focused especially on Islam’s rejection of Jesus as the Son of God.
Prince described Islam as “one of the most powerful examples of the spirit of antichrist,” because he believed it denies the Christian teaching of the Father–Son relationship and the deity of Jesus Christ.[3]
He said Muslims could accept discussion of Jesus as a prophet, Messiah, or savior, but that affirming Jesus as the Son of Godbrought strong opposition.[7]
He warned Christians that Islam, if politically dominant, would suppress Jews and Christians. He connected this claim to the historic legal status of dhimmi—a category used in some Islamic states for non-Muslim communities.[7]
In a 1990 Middle East teaching, he characterized Islam as hostile to Israel and to what he called “the true Church,” and claimed its ultimate program was worldwide religious domination.[1]
Prince made a distinction between the religion and its adherents. He explicitly said:
“I am not against the Muslims. I have a deep concern for them.”
He said he had lived in Muslim-majority nations and viewed many Muslims as spiritually captive under Islam. His stated response was prayer that Jesus would free them and open a way for them to become Christians.[1]
Derek Prince’s teaching was strongly opposed to Islam theologically and politically, often using end-times language such as “spirit of antichrist.” At the same time, he said Christians should approach Muslim individuals with concern, compassion, prayer, and a desire to share the Christian gospel rather than personal hostility.

When His Grace Comes On You
Remember those times when you get “in the groove” - you feel like baking a whole lot (some people do, like Laurie in the winter); you have extra energy to finish three loads of laundry (ugh!); you mow the yard for an hour and you can do it again, as the sweat pours through your soaked t-shirt…
Well friend, that is how it is with me in writing or designing new book covers. The Holy Spirit gives you that grace to push on and do more.
Particularly after I have spent some time praying in tongues.
When The Grace Comes On You is a special time.
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord gives grace and glory; He withholds no good thing from those who walk with integrity.” Psalm 84:11
There are certainly “seasons of the soul” – those times in the spiritual which seem like a spring time of refreshing; summer months of growth and sun; a fall of coolness and colorful beauty; and a winter of dry days and maybe even darkness within and without.
Each of us have had them, and continue to. They help us keep our spiritual balance and seeking our Lord.
Not every day can be a mountain top experience, nor will we have ongoing desert periods, similar to what Yeshua (Jesus) walked through before His major anointing came down.
When His grace comes on you, it is do accomplish His will, His purpose, for your good and those He has sent you to share it with. His abundant and available grace comes because of His Love, His provision, His ongoing care for people.
He wants to, and does, use us, enables us, challenges us even to do so.
When His grace comes to you, do what He blesses you to do. Share His Grace with others, and experience part of His manifest love He has for His world.
“For God so loved…” Yes He did, and daily continues to pour out His grace upon you and me.
For the sake of others.
Ahava and Shalom,
Steve Marin
A grateful man for His grace.

JERUSALEM, Israel –This week, like many weeks, has been a tumultuous one in Israel. From reports of a split between President Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to new security threats against Israel by Hamas and questions over what constitutes the disarming of the terror group, to the virtual collapse of Israel supporters in the Democratic Party.
CBN News had the opportunity to sit down with the U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee. We asked him about a number of topics on Israel's front burner.
You can watch our interview on Friday's 700 Club.
The text of the interview is below.
***Please sign up for CBN Newsletters and download the CBN News app to ensure you receive the latest news from a Christian perspective.***
CHRIS MITCHELL: Ambassador Mike Huckabee, it's great to be with you. Thanks for joining us.
AMBASSADOR HUCKABEE: Thank you, Chris. Great always to be with you.
CM: Ambassador, there have been many reports of tension and a rift between Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump.
You've been in the room with them. What's the story?
AMH: There's not a rift, and I have been in the room. I've been on calls, and I've been with them individually before or after the calls. There is honest conversation between two leaders who actually get along quite well.
They don't agree all the time, on everything. But I tell people I've been married 52 years. My wife and I don't agree on everything all the time. But it doesn't mean that our relationship is shattered by the fact that we have enough, I guess, common ground that we can be honest with each other.
It's refreshing that you have two leaders who are personal enough in their relationship that they can be honest with each other. So the idea that they're mad at each other or that there's a split, I would just tell you, categorically, that's not true.
CM: We're seeing an erosion of support for Israel, seeing it in the Democratic Party, in the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America), and some of the candidates that have won just in the last few days in the primaries. What's your concern about this rise of anti-Israel sentiment?
AMH: Well, first of all, it concerns me that it is a... real effort to deny a biblical connection; that's of concern to me as a believer.
As a diplomat, my concern is that it is lacking context and it's lacking truth. Because for people to have this sense of "Israel doesn't matter," or that it's okay to be irrationally hateful toward Jewish people, that is... that is a concern because there is a very important thing that Americans tend to miss, and that is that Israel and America's relationship – it's about technology and military hardware and intelligence and all those things.
But more than any of that, it is about the shared values of a Judeo-Christian foundation upon which America was built. And without that foundation, there would never have been an America.
CM: Antisemitism, Jew hatred, has risen exponentially since October 7th. What is your concern for the Jewish people in America and around the world? And how should evangelicals stand with Israel and the Jewish people right now?
AMH: Sure, I think it's the, the greatest anxiety that Jewish people should have right now is that everything that they thought would never happen again, and the cry after the Holocaust was "Never again." And here we are. We're seeing it again. And it's almost the same pattern. And the word anti-Semitic – I know we use it a lot. I've decided not to use it as much because I think people are numb to it and it just becomes this nebulous term. They really don't know what that means. I just use the term, it's Jew hatred, as you just did, because I feel like that's really what it comes down to, people hating Jews.
And if you ask yourself why, then you come to the conclusion it's irrational. But where do they get this? They get it from TikTok, and they get it from Twitter and Instagram. They get it from so-called influencers, many of whom are paid handsomely by foreign governments to present these messages. From bots that are created in foreign countries, whether it's Qatar, Russia, China, all to create division and consternation among younger people who don't have the frame of reference, who may not have the benefit of getting news from sources that are edited and carefully vetted. These are just sources that come from anywhere.
CM: You've seen a lot here. You've seen war in Gaza, war with Iran. You've been in bomb shelters. Looking forward, what gives you hope?
AMH: My hope is built on something far bigger than any document that human beings could sign. And it's the document that God gave us, the Bible – His word. And when I read it, and I believe it to be not just true, but infallibly true – can't be amended, can't be changed. Can't be changed or altered.
And that book is the solid rock on which I think we can all stand and say, well, you know, I don't know how things are going in the (middle) of the fourth quarter, but I know when the final whistle sounds, we come off this field victorious. And I'm okay with that.
CM: Ambassador Huckabee, thanks so much.
AMH: Thank you, Chris. Been my pleasure.”
Jewish Publisher Rips Ossoff Over Israel Voting Record
Atlanta Jewish Times Publisher Michael Morris blasted Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., in an open letter Wednesday, telling the Georgia Democrat to "stop lying" about his support for Israel and accusing him of siding against the Jewish state when his votes matter most.
"I apologize for being blunt, but please, stop lying to me and your constituents," Morris wrote. "I hear you claim, over and over again, that you support Israel — that your support is 'ironclad.' It is not."
Morris said Ossoff presents himself as a staunch supporter of Israel when politically convenient but has compiled a Senate voting record that tells a different story.
But when Israel needs actual military support, Morris charged, Ossoff has repeatedly voted to restrict it.
"You are with Israel on the votes that cost you nothing, and against it on the votes that actually matter," Morris wrote. "All that heartfelt sympathy is smoke and mirrors."
Morris singled out Ossoff's July 30, 2025, vote for a resolution that sought to block a U.S. arms sale to Israel. Ossoff later issued a statement defending his position, but Morris rejected the explanation.
"That statement is not evidence of support — it is merely an excuse for the absence of it," Morris wrote.
Morris also hammered Ossoff for supporting some resolutions from Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., aimed at cutting off weapons transfers to Israel in late 2024 and again in July 2025.
Morris also said Ossoff went even further on April 15, 2026, when he voted "to block every sale on the floor."
"Did you tell that room your support for Israel is 'ironclad,' the way you tell your Jewish constituents?" Morris asked. "Or does the message change with the audience?"
Morris ended with a direct challenge, urging Ossoff to prove his support for Israel with his Senate votes.
"You campaigned as a supporter of Israel," Morris wrote. "Demonstrate your support with your vote on the Senate floor."
"If instead you choose to keep voting against Israel, at least do not come home and obfuscate your vote — own your record," he added.
