'The Valley of the Shadow': Anne Graham Lotz Facing a More Serious Cancer Battle Than First Thought - CBN News Benjamin Gill

'The Valley of the Shadow': Anne Graham Lotz Facing a More Serious Cancer Battle Than First Thought
10-07-2018
CBN News Benjamin Gill
Anne Graham Lotz is facing many weeks of chemotherapy after her doctors discovered her case of
breast cancer is more advanced than they first thought.

Lotz, the daughter of evangelist Billy Graham, is a Bible teacher and best-selling author, and she's
been posting about her journey, writing about how she believes God has important lessons for her
during this difficult season.

Doctors had performed surgery a month ago to remove the cancer, but they recently discovered that
"The surgeon then revealed, with compassion in her eyes, that she had the pathology report. As she
went over the numbers, it became evident that the results were not what I had prayed they would be.
A trace of cancer was found in the lymph nodes which alters the follow-up treatment significantly,"
Lotz writes.

Her chemotherapy treatments will begin October 18th and will run for 18 weeks. Then she'll undergo
additional treatments over the next twelve months.

"The adventurous journey through the valley of the shadow will be longer than anticipated. BUT I am
still confident the Shepherd will walk with me each step of the way until He sees me safely through!"
she writes.

Lotz is in high demand as a preacher and public speaker, but now she'll need to cancel commitments
in the coming months.

"As I looked ahead at the calendar, I could almost audibly hear the 'click' of the Divine pruning shears.
I'm confident that the Gardener knows exactly what He's doing. I'm more expectant than ever of
bearing much eternal fruit. For His glory."

Lotz will continue to minister to her hundreds of thousands of followers on social media. Her latest
post on Facebook is about trusting God "the Potter" during the sufferings of life.

RT Kendall: We Need to Pursue Integrity Now Harder Than Ever

(Photo by Candice Picard on Unsplash)
What is integrity? Integrity is the willingness to get to the bottom of the truth no matter where it leads or what it takes to get them.

The pursuit of integrity is about the quest for truth. Or facts. It is only truth that sets one freedom that demonstrates the true presence of the Holy Spirit (2 Cor. 3:17). The question is, do we really want the truth? How far are we willing to go to get to the truth?

One thing that should surely bring about acute honesty is the consciousness that we are in God's presence. The appeal to the presence of God is like swearing an oath. If you swear an oath, you had better be sure you have authority to do so. The prophet Samuel invoked the presence of God in the declaration of his integrity. "Behold, here I am. Witness against me before the Lord and before His anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I received any bribe to blind my eyes with? Indeed I will restore it you" (1 Sam. 12:3). The people testified that Samuel had been transparently honest in his dealings with them.

The prophet Jeremiah had a rival. His name was Hananiah. Jeremiah prophesied that the Babylonian captivity would last 70 years. Hananiah invoked the presence of the Lord to claim the captivity would last only two years. Hananiah boldly proclaimed, "Thus says the Lord: Even so I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all the nations within the space of two full years. Then the prophet Jeremiah went his way" (Jer. 28:11).

Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, "Listen now, Hananiah. The Lord has not sent you, and you make this people trust in a lie. read more

Anne Graham Lotz Diagnosed With Breast Cancer - ANNE GRAHAM LOTZ CHARISMA NEWS

(Anne Graham Lotz)

Anne Graham Lotz Diagnosed With Breast Cancer

ANNE GRAHAM LOTZ  CHARISMA NEWSIn this you greatly rejoice, even though now, if for a little while, you have had to suffer various trials, in order that the genuineness of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tried by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ (1 Pet. 1:6-7).
What fuel has the Refiner added to the fire as He works to reveal Jesus in and through you? He has recently stoked the fire under me. I'm encouraged when I remember that when a refiner purifies gold, he melts it in a pot over the fire. He keeps turning up the heat until the dross, or impurities, rise to the surface. He then bends over the gold to skim off the dross, and continues doing so, until he can see his face reflected in the surface of the gold.
Gold being refined in the fire is a meaningful visual of the way God refines and purifies you and me (Mal. 3:2-3). He knows exactly how hot the fire needs to be in order to bring the impurities in our hearts, minds, and lives to the surface of our attention, enabling Him to skim them off, until He can see His own image reflected in us.
The Refiner has just added fuel to the fire in my life. On the afternoon of Aug. 17, 2015, between 3:00 and 3:30, as you may know, I discovered my husband, Danny, unresponsive in our pool. Two days later, he was home! Three years to the day, on the afternoon of August 17, 2018, at the very same time of day, 3:00 to 3:30, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
When I realized the strange "coincidence" of the timing, I came to the chilling conclusion that it was an assignment from the enemy. But just as that thought was forming, I heard the soft, gentle whisper of the Spirit, reminding me that it was on a Friday, during that very same time, between 3:00 and 3:30 in the afternoon, that God's Passover Lamb was sacrificed. Jesus died on the very same day of the week, at the very same time of the day, crushing the head of the serpent, forever defeating the devil and death (Matt. 27:45-46; Gen. 3:15; 1 Cor. 15:55-57). Praise God! The cross, the blood of God's Lamb, trumps anything the devil can throw at us or assign to us!
So I am left to worship and totally trust our God who is ultimately in control. Of everything.
Each day since the diagnosis, God has given me promises and encouragement from His Word. God has been—and is—my refuge and strength, an ever-present help in this trouble. Therefore, I will not fear (see Ps. 46:1-2). But He also has made it very clear that my healing will be in answer to not just my prayer, but the prayers of others for me.
So please! Would you pray for me? Pray for God to heal me in whichever way He deems would bring Him the most glory. Healing without surgery, with surgery, with surgery and follow-up treatment or through the greater miracle of the resurrection. Amy Carmichael's eloquent and moving prayer below has given me words to express my heart's desire:
From prayer that asks that I may be/ Sheltered from winds that beat on Thee,
From fearing when I should aspire/ From faltering when I should climb higher,
From silken self, O Captain, free/ Thy soldier who would follow Thee.
From subtle love of softening things/From easy choices, weakenings;
Not thus are spirits fortified/ Not this way went the Crucified,
From all that dims Thy Calvary/ O Lamb of God, deliver me.
Give me the love that leads the way/The faith that nothing can dismay,
The hope no disappointments tire/ The passion that will burn like fire,
Let me not sink to be a clod/ Make me Thy fuel, Flame of God. —Amy Carmichael
Please pray for me—and my family—as we follow the Good Shepherd through this valley of the shadow. The bottom line of our prayer is that our faith would be purified, God would be glorified and Jesus would be magnified through every step we take on this new journey, until the Refiner sees His own reflection mirrored in my life.

6 Helpful Hints to Devil-Proof Your Home
Learn how to devil-proof your family.
Learn how to devil-proof your family. (Lightstock)
The Bible offers what I like to think of as a blueprint for building a strong family. These principles are found in Psalm 127.

This short, five-verse psalm contains tremendous insight into parenting. In fact, Jewish rabbis teach that this psalm contains the pattern for training children to serve God.

Remember, when we see the word "house" in Scripture, we can often substitute the word "family." Let's look closely at the wisdom found in Psalm 127 for building a family that serves God and stands firm against the enemy.

1. Be committed. The psalm begins by telling us that unless we build the house God's way, our effort is in vain. It is possible to work hard to build something and have that work produce nothing. That's what it means to labor in vain. The effort is useless.

2. Rely on the Holy Spirit. Notice that Psalm 127:1 says, "Except the LORD build the house ... " and "except the LORD guards the city ... " This indicates that we must have God's help. God has given us His Word as the blueprint for training our children, but He also have given us a living Helper to guide and counsel us in the process.

3. Partner with your spouse. By God's design the father and mother have separate and distinct roles to help build the family. But the mother and father are to bring their unique strengths together and work as a team to train their children. If you're a single parent, you face unique challenges, but God offers unique help for single parents (see Isa. 54:4-5).

4. Give your worries to the Lord. I want to encourage you right now to let go of any guilt you may have over parenting blunders. As a parent, you will miss it sometimes, and sorrow may come on you when you do. read more

Anne Graham Lotz on Life After Billy Graham, and the Message He Wrote to Her 40 Years Ago that She Just Found - CBN News Julie Blim

Anne Graham Lotz on Life After Billy Graham, and the Message He Wrote to Her
40 Years Ago that She Just Found

Last February, the world mourned the loss of Reverend Billy Graham, especially the evangelist's
children. Now the daughter whose preaching style most closely resembles the style of "America's
Pastor" is speaking about how the family has handled his passing.

CBN's Scott Ross talked with Anne Graham Lotz, the second of the five Graham children,
about the family and why she's pushing so hard now for the church in America to rise up in prayer.

She spoke about the day her father died, and how peaceful his passing was.

Why Billy Graham Was a Modern Moses: Anne Graham Lotz Points to Powerful Prophetic
Significance of His Death

Anne Graham Lotz: Her Book, America, and Remembering Billy Graham (Extended)

"He was getting ready to have breakfast, took a few breaths, and he was in heaven. You know,
no struggle, no pre-warning. Just, he was there," she said.

Lotz says the family is staying close since Billy Graham's passing, but it's been tough.

"You know, I think we're doing all right. It's been difficult in many ways. We're all scattered.
I talked to one of my sisters last night. I talked to Franklin day before …and so we'll stay in
touch. But without that home base, it's going to be different," she says.

Lotz says she misses so much about her father, from the tender moments they shared to the
depth of his biblical knowledge.

"Well, of course, Daddy's missing. And to think of what I miss the most is just everything,"
she says. "It's knowing that I can't go home to see him anymore. Even in his last few years
when he was weak, I just loved to sit there and hold his hand. Or stroke his head, or he was
affectionate when I would lean down to kiss him, he would just – he was so warm and
would embrace me."

"But he loved God's Word. And I miss hearing his comments. But, you know, the sweet thing,
I've written a new book on the Holy Spirit that'll come out next spring. And I was thinking I
wish I had Daddy to talk to. You know, I wish I could discuss this with Daddy. And I looked
up in my bookcase and he had a book on the Holy Spirit that I don't know, it's maybe 40 years
old. And so I pulled it down and in the flyleaf, he'd written the most beautiful thing to me.
And I read it, it was like talking to Daddy about the things I wanted to talk about."

While Lotz has her family to care for as a mother to three grown children and grandmother
to three young ladies, she continues to minister to audiences around the globe, spurring them
to a deeper devotion to Christ.

Lotz has powerfully proclaimed the gospel for 30 years in her own right. And she continues
that ministry with her newest book: The Daniel Key, all about the power of prayer and how
Daniel engaged in spiritual warfare.

"I believe that the enemy has unleashed an attack on God's people, on the leaders of God's people,
on the children of God's people," she says. "And of course it goes back to our choices. We've
made choices as a nation that have taken us away from God's Word, taken us away from the truth,
taken us away from faith. And our foundation of faith is crumbling."

But Lotz says the prayer of Daniel in chapter 9 is powerful, proving Christians have the authority
to change the world through prayer.

"When we go into prayer, there is a spiritual battle that ensues. Where the enemy, who is the devil,
and all of his, you know, demons, if he can't keep us from prayer, then he wants to distract us in
prayer or he wants to keep our answers from coming," she says.

"And so it's just – it's a battle, but we have the victory in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
There's no spirit that we'll ever face that's greater than the authority that we have been given in
Jesus' name."

"I believe that there is hope if God brings His Spirit, pours out His Spirit, and we have revival
in the church. If God's people will wake up and they'll start living for Him and loving Him and
paying the price for taking a stand for Him and sharing the Gospel, then I believe revival,
the church could greatly impact our nation."

"I believe Jesus is soon to come. In fact, I said it at my father's service. I felt that God had told
me a long time ago that when my father went to heaven, that that would be a shot across the bow
and that would be a wake-up call to the whole world. And that the Gospel will be preached to
the whole world, which it was."

Anne Graham Lotz: 'My Father's Death May Be a Shot Across the Bow From Heaven'

ANNE GRAHAM LOTZ  CHARISMA NEWS
When I was a girl growing up, Mother led us in family devotions every day. She read the Bible, prayed and that was that. When Daddy was home, he led in family devotions. But when he read the Bible, he would stop and make a comment, ask a question and lead us in discussion. So, my mother taught me by her example to love reading my Bible every day, and my daddy taught me by his example to think about what I was reading. A little over 10 years ago when my mother went to heaven, my daddy started asking me to read him the Bible. At first, it was very intimidating. And then it became such a joy. Because he was hard of hearing, there were times I would sit in front of Daddy, knee to knee, and he would ask me to give him a full 60-minute message. He never took his eyes off my face. Once in a while, he would interrupt me, ask a question or we would discuss what I was saying. But he loved to hear God's Word.
As he got weaker, we went from 60 minutes to five or 10 minutes. But the pattern was always the same—whoever was in the house was called to gather around him whether he was at the kitchen table, or sitting in his study chair or more recently when he was in his bedroom. But before I read a passage of Scripture, I would explain why I had chosen it. Then I would read the passage to him. I would always end by telling Daddy I loved him.
At Daddy's funeral service, with 2500 people in front of me, and millions more watching the live broadcasts, for the last time I led in "family devotions." The passage of Scripture I chose was 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. The reason is this: I believe from heaven's perspective that my father's death was as significant as his life. I know that Feb. 21, 2018, was the date God had preordained to take my father home. Why? What was significant about that day? When I did a web search, I discovered that Feb. 21, 2018, was the day when the Scripture reading for Jews focused on the death of Moses.
Moses was the great liberator. He brought millions of people out of bondage to slavery, got them to the edge of the promised land and then God took him to heaven. At that point, God brought Joshua to lead them into the promised land—to take them home.
Like Moses, my father also was a great liberator. He brought millions of people out of bondage to sin, and he has gotten us to the edge of the promised land—heaven. Then God called him home. Could it be that God is now going to bring Joshua to lead us into the promised land? To lead us to heaven? To take us home? And do you know what the New Testament name is for Joshua? It's Jesus!
I believe my father's death may be a shot across the bow from heaven. Is God saying, "Wake up, church. Wake up, world. Wake up, Anne. Jesus is coming!"? Jesus said in Matthew 24:14 when the gospel is preached to the whole world—as it was during my father's funeral service, as it is through churches, missionaries, ministries—then the end.
First Thessalonians, Chapter 4 beginning with verse 13 says this: I will write it out for you the way my mother taught me by putting my name in, to make it personal. Then I'll write it out the way my daddy taught me, with a few comments:
"I do not want you to be ignorant, Anne, concerning those who have fallen asleep." "Fallen asleep" is just the biblical term for when God's children die. It's when you close your eyes to this life, and you open them to the face of Jesus. It's when your faith becomes sight. So ... "I don't want you to be ignorant, Anne, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if you believe that Jesus died and rose again," and I do! I believe Jesus has risen from the dead! He's alive! "If you believe, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the Word of the Lord."
This is God's Word. It's not fantasy. It's not a wish. It's not a hope-so. "This we say to you by the Word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself—Joshua, Yeshua, Jesus—will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first." That's my daddy. That's my mother. That's my husband. "Then you and I who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words."
And this is the comfort. There is hope for tomorrow. This life is not all there is. The best is yet to come. So on the day of my father's funeral service, I chose to make a pledge that in view of the soon appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, and in front of all those watching and listening, I will preach the Word. I will do the work of an evangelist—I will share the gospel. I will run my race and live my life, so that five minutes before I see Jesus I have no regrets—I will live my life to exalt and glorify the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I challenge you to make the same choice, until the whole world hears and Jesus returns!
