The Lion's Den - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

The Lion's Den
Now Think On This
by Steve Martin

“Then the king arose at dawn, at the break of day, and went in haste to the lions' den. When he had come near the den to Daniel, he cried out with a troubled voice. The king spoke and said to Daniel, "Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you constantly serve, been able to deliver you from the lions?"

Then Daniel spoke to the king, "O king, live forever! "My God sent His angel and shut the lions' mouths and they have not harmed me, inasmuch as I was found innocent before Him; and also toward you, O king, I have committed no crime."

Then the king was very pleased and gave orders for Daniel to be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den and no injury whatever was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.” (Daniel 6:19-24 NASU)

We are all quite familiar with the story of the Jewish young man Daniel, who was with those taken captive from Jerusalem by the Babylonians during the reign of King Nebuchadnezzar. Born in 623 BC, he was raised in Jerusalem before the captivity. During his teen years there in that foreign land, in what is now Iran and Iraq, he was educated in Chaldean thought. However, he never converted to Neo-Babylonian ways, but held to the true convictions in his godly heart.

A time came when the king ordered all of his subjects to obey his commandments of whom to worship. Daniel refused. He knew the Living God of his fathers, and was not going to bow down to any false gods. As a result, he was thrown into the lion’s den. We are told in Scripture that the Lord delivered him from the lions, uninjured, because he had trusted in his God.

Lions are ferocious beasts, who can consume a human body in a very short time, if given the opportunity, and it is time to eat.

Our enemy is portrayed as one who goes about as a lion, seeking to destroy whom he can. “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8-9 NASU) Notice that he prowls like a lion, but he isn’t one. Only the Lion of Judah is the true One, with all power and authority.

You and I might not get to experience the lion’s den adventure, or be at the consumed end of the African lioness who has found her daily meal. But I know that you and I have experienced the prowling of the one who seeks to destroy and kill mankind.

All around us, on the national and local news, we see and hear of those who have been devoured by the wanna-be lion. Drugs, alcohol, murder, sexual attacks, mistreatments of all imaginations. No doubt, we have experienced that false lion’s efforts in trying to destroy us in our faith and commitment to the Lion of Judah Himself.

Even in some job situations, there can be that boss continually riding us, beating down our spirit through accusations, ridicule, or lies spread about our beliefs. That can be just as painful and hurtful as having a leg bitten off by a real animal of prey. The spiritual ones can have lasting effects on our mind, will and emotions.

How do we guard against such actions? How do we keep from bowing down to the false gods, fearful of losing our life, possibly in the natural as well? The God of Daniel has shown us the way.

When confronted with the choice of choosing the present escape or the eternal reward, Daniel chose the One who would grant him life everlasting. He had prepared himself on a daily basis, so that when the lions gathered around him, ready to tear him apart, his eyes and heart were kept fixed on his Lord, Who would deliver him.

My encouragement today is that we too stand in the midst of our attackers, both in the natural and the spiritual, who seek to devour us. We can stand strong in our convictions, the truth we know, the way and the life, by being with the Lord daily. If you know Him in your daily walk, you will have that trust, hope and faith that He will bring you through all that the enemy of our soul, spirit and body throws at us.

Trials and tribulations come. Sometimes we wonder if we are going to make it through this one, this time. Knowing that our Deliverer Himself made it through the trial, the whipping, and the crucifixion, we can base our eternal hope on His promises, that He will be with us during ours too.

We are going to be in the lion’s den at some point, if not already. We will stand strong during the time if we have spent time with Him prior to that time.

My prayer is that you do. Know Him who is the One who delivers.

“No More Namby Pamby Christians” - Ahava Love Letter (Steve Martin)

        “No More Namby Pamby Christians”

“Up on your feet! Take a deep breath! Maybe there’s life in you yet. But I wouldn’t know it by looking at your busywork; nothing of God’s work has been completed. Your condition is desperate. Think of the gift you once had in your hands, the Message you heard with your ears—grasp it again and turn back to God.”    (Rev. 3:2-3 The Message)

Dear family of friends,

Some call it “fire in the bones”. Some say “I’m steamed up” or that "burns me up."  Others use words I was raised not to even think about saying. But however you express the attitude of “I am just tired of it”, that will move you to move, that will be better than to waste your God-given life away as the world dies away.

On the way to work this morning, having again donned my “Jeff Gordon NASCAR helmet”, for the trip north on I77 in Charlotte, NC even at 6 am, I was flashed twice with the bright lights from behind, for no apparent reason. But then I knew it must be because of the Israel flag sticker on my left rear window, or the “I Love My Wife” one on the opposite side. Facts that I stand for. Loves that I will die for.

My car's rear window.

You know, I have had enough of those who keeping telling me, and our country, and the world, that historic truths are lies; that standing for righteousness is pushing my beliefs on others; that sharing a word of hope and love on the job isn’t permitted, because it might offend someone else. Really? Well then so be it.

Christians around the world are being hammered, murdered, tortured for their beliefs, and many of us in the USA are just content to sit in the Sunday pew, hear a nice song, and then join the rest of them as if we ourselves have never “seen the light”, or have been saved from the lukewarmness that has engulfed so many of us these past twenty years. We have been fogged over.

Becoming so content to just lay around waiting for the rapture, when the King of kings and Lord of lords, who saved us from that dead beat life we had, has already given us the command to “Get up and get out there” to the dying world. (Just as a side note: General George S. Patton knew how to get the job done in World War II. I know the Lord used him and pray He gives us leaders again who are willing and able to do the right thing as required.)

How we have chosen to just pass the days, night after night, watching TV shows that leave you with no meaning and no purpose, while at the same time just letting the ungodly thoughts come into our homes and numb our minds without us thinking twice about it. How we have become namby pamby*, afraid to speak a word, declare His truth, or spread the gospel to those who need to hear it before eternity hits them tomorrow.

“I know you inside and out, and find little to my liking. You’re not cold, you’re not hot—far better to be either cold or hot! You’re stale. You’re stagnant. You make me want to vomit. You brag, ‘I’m rich, I’ve got it made, I need nothing from anyone,’ oblivious that in fact you’re a pitiful, blind beggar, threadbare and homeless.

“Here’s what I want you to do: Buy your gold from me, gold that’s been through the refiner’s fire. Then you’ll be rich. Buy your clothes from me, clothes designed in Heaven. You’ve gone around half-naked long enough. And buy medicine for your eyes from me so you can see, really see.

“The people I love, I call to account—prod and correct and guide so that they’ll live at their best. Up on your feet, then! About face! Run after God!

“Look at me. I stand at the door. I knock. If you hear me call and open the door, I’ll come right in and sit down to supper with you. Conquerors will sit alongside me at the head table, just as I, having conquered, took the place of honor at the side of my Father. That’s my gift to the conquerors!

“Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches.” (Revelation 3:15-22)

As for me and my house, I for one am going to talk louder, share more often, help those who want help, and do that which I have been called to do. Feeding my self-love is not the answer I want. I hope you are so moved to do what you have been saved from, and called to do. If you don’t, we all will suffer from your inaction.

The world doesn’t need any more namby pamby Christians. They need God-fearing, not man-fearing, disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ to do what He has already commanded us to do. Get up and get going.

Ahava to my family of friends,

Steve Martin

The Crack In The Liberty Bell - Bill Yount - The Prophetic Weekly Post

Bill Yount - The Prophetic Weekly Post
Posted: 24 Sep 2013

This morning I was revisited with a vision I had of our nation in 1996.

Out of nowhere, came a vision of the Liberty Bell. My attention was naturally drawn to the crack in the Bell. I felt in my spirit so grieved to feel how it seemed to signify such a deep fatal crack in the true liberty and freedom of our nation. Could that breach ever be repaired? Why wasn’t at least the physical defect of the Bell ever filled in with more metal? Would the Bell’s scar be prophetic, representing our nation’s fatal epitaph–unchangeable like the Grand Canyon engraved into Arizona. If only the crack was not there. I felt mesmerized by it. For the longest time my eyes could not move nor could my eyelids even blink.

SUDDENLY, LIKE A DAM BURSTING

Then suddenly as though in a twinkling of an eye, the brightest light pierced through that crack like a dam bursting. My head immediately turned away from the brightness emanating out of that crack. Instantly I had a knowing that this was the very Shekinah Glory of God.

FROM THE INTERCESSIONS OF GOD’S PEOPLE

Looking away from its brightness, I saw a large rope that was attached to the Bell. This rope was intertwined and braided. It seemed to be made out of the prayers and intercessions of God’s people. The Hand of the Lord began to reach down towards this rope to get a hold of it.

The Lord then spoke. “This Liberty Bell is going to ring again.” I then remembered the words inscribed on that Bell: Proclaim Liberty throughout the land and to all the inhabitants thereof.” It was now a rhema word from God.

In the Spirit I had a knowing that the Liberty Bell would be heard again spiritually throughout Philadelphia and across the nation. And with the sound of Liberty, the Shekinah Glory of God would begin to rise up out of obscurity and be seen even in the gross dark places of our nation. Concerning this vision the Lord spoke, “Have My people forgotten that all things are possible?”

Tradition holds that the Bell cracked while it was being rung during a funeral service in memory of a Sheriff. Prophetically it will ring again for the life and the Glory of a King who still lives in our land.

Can you hear the bell ringing?

Blessings,

Bill Yount
