Trump Administration Awards $1.7 Mil Family Planning Grant to Pro-Life Clinics, Cuts Funding to Four Abortion Clinics - CBN News Steve Warren

Trump Administration Awards $1.7 Mil Family Planning Grant to Pro-Life Clinics, Cuts Funding to Four Abortion Clinics

On Friday, the Trump administration announced it was awarding a $1.7 million family planning grant to a chain of California crisis pregnancy centers that oppose abortion and don't offer contraceptives, while at the same time cutting government funding to some Planned Parenthood clinics.
The news website The Hill reports the Obria Group will receive the grant and signals the administration's desire to shift family planning funds toward faith-based groups that oppose abortion and away from groups like Planned Parenthood.
"Many women want the opportunity to visit a professional, comprehensive health care facility — not an abortion clinic — for their health care needs; this grant will give them that choice," Kathleen Eaton Bravo, founder, and CEO of The Obria Group, said in a statement.
Obria will oversee the work of seven clinic partners, including three of its affiliates that don't provide contraceptives or perform abortions, in four California counties, the group said in the statement.
The group offers pregnancy testing and counseling, prenatal care, HIV/AIDS testing, ultrasounds, cancer testing, well-woman care, pap smears, STD testing and treatment, adoption referral and post-abortion support, according to a press release.
An HHS spokesperson said the Obria group will receive $1.7 million in 2019 and, along with other Title X providers, will receive funding through 2022 based on the availability of funds, grant compliance, and the project's progress, according to The Hill.
Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood said in a statement Friday that the four affiliates that were "stripped of funding" served Hawaii, North Carolina, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Virginia.
As CBN News reported last month the Trump administration finalized a rule directing Title X family planning funds away from groups like Planned Parenthood, which is America's biggest abortion provider.
Under the new rule, health clinics must be "physically and financially" separate from abortion providers in order to receive Title X family planning grants.

A Tale of Two Prayers in PA State House: 'Jesus' Prayer Blasted as 'Islamophobic', Quran Prayer Applauded

A Christian prayer given by a state representative on Tuesday at the start of a swearing-in ceremony for Pennsylvania's first Muslim representative has drawn backlash from some of her colleagues.
State Rep. Stephanie Borowicz led the state house chamber in prayer before the swearing in of Democratic Rep. Movita Johnson-Harrell of Philadelphia. The freshman lawmaker, who's also a Christian and the wife of an associate pastor, mentioned Jesus Christ 13 times in her prayer.
She also gave thanks for President Donald Trump for standing behind Israel during her prayer.
State Democratic Whip Jordan Harris said her many mentions of Jesus before the ceremony to swear in Pennsylvania's first Muslim woman representative Movita Johnson-Harrell of Philadelphia was inappropriate.
"I am a Christian and I believe in Jesus Christ, but more than anything I believe in his teachings of love, compassion and most of all unity," Harris told ABC News.
Johnson-Harrell won a special election earlier this month to fill a seat vacated by the resignation of Democratic Rep. Vanessa Lowery Brown who had been re-elected in November after being convicted of bribery.
Johnson-Harrell agreed with Harris calling Borowicz's prayer a political statement.
"I thought it was blatantly Islamophobic, Xenophobic, and discriminatory," she said.
Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf, himself a Methodist, said he was "horrified" by Borowicz's invocation and apologized to Johnson-Harrell on behalf of all Pennsylvanians.
But Borowicz also has fans among her fellow representatives as well.
"I think she was walking in the footsteps of our forefathers who would've prayed a prayer very similar," said Republican Rep. Daryl Metcalf.
Metcalf says what's actually offensive is that some are claiming Islamophobia.
"That the newest member, who is a Muslim, would attack her and say that that was an example of Islamophobia, should be offensive to every Pennsylvanian," he told ABC News.
Another Muslim lawmaker, Rep. Jason Dawkins (D-Philadelphia), opened the session on Tuesday by reading from the Quran. His invocation was followed by applause.
House Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) who controls the daily invocation process, lost a federal court decision last summer that halted his policy of preventing nonbelievers from making the invocations. Turzai is appealing that ruling and currently has the invocations performed by state representatives themselves.
After Borowicz's prayer, he reminded House members the rules previously provided to religious professionals about keeping remarks respectful of all religious beliefs and refraining from commenting on extraneous matters.
In a statement, Borowicz said in part: "If a lawmaker who is a Christian can no longer stand in a General Assembly in America...and pray to Jesus without ridicule, then we are no longer free."

'We're Raising Her as a Girl': Falwells' Remarks About Granddaughter Spark Liberty LGBT Protest

Some pro-LGBT Liberty University students protested on campus recently after the university's president and his wife said their granddaughter will be raised according to her God-given gender.
The News & Advance reports Jerry Falwell, Jr. and his wife Becki, were speaking at a satellite CPAC event alongside Donald Trump, Jr. when the couple said they would raise their granddaughter as a female.
"She's our granddaughter, and we're raising her as a girl," Mrs. Falwell said. "We're not letting her have a choice. God makes the choice of what the babies are going to be and God decided she would be a girl."
The Falwells went on to explain that their granddaughter always carries a baby doll with her, while their own sons grew up around firearms.
About 30 Liberty University students responded to the Falwells' remarks by waving gay pride flags and carrying signs supporting transgender rights on the steps of the campus' student union.
Some of the signs said "LGBTQ Lives Matter" and "Hate is a choice, being transgender is not," according to the Washington Examiner
"We're out here mainly to start conversations, but to also be supportive," said Elizabeth Axley, a sophomore demonstrator who says she's bisexual. "Yes, this is a Christian campus and, yes, Jerry Falwell, Jr. has insinuated that he does not care about you, but that does not mean that every Liberty student does not care about you — we love you."
Scott Lamb, a vice president for Liberty University, told the News & Advance that the school believes in letting its students exercise their constitutional rights. "We have protests quite frequently," Lamb said, adding the university supports free speech and the right to assemble.

Tebow's Film Makes Top 10: 'Run the Race' a Big Hit at the Box Office

Tim Tebow's first film as a movie producer landed in the top ten films at the box office in its opening weekend.
Released by Roadside Attractions to 853 theaters nationwide, "Run The Race" earned more than $2.2 million and finished at number 10 – even beating out "Green Book," which won the Best Picture Oscar over the weekend at the 91st Academy Awards. "Green Book" finished the weekend at number 11.
The website The Wrap called the movie a "faith-based hit," comparing Pure Flix's "Indivisible" movie which debuted on 850 screens and opened to $1.5 million last October.
Tebow's film tells the story of two brothers facing challenges and a major tragedy that puts the weight of the world on their shoulders. The film was directed and co-written by Chris Dowling. ("Where Hope Grows," "Rock Slyde")
The former NFL star turned pro baseball player says it's a story of learning what we have to hold on to that can't be shaken in the face of loss and learning "who we are" and "whose we are."
Tebow recently told CBN News that the story behind the film is truly powerful.
"I think it has to do with the story. My goal was never, honestly, to get into the movie industry. And it's still not, really. It was more about being able to tell the story. When we read the script, it impacted me. I was crying and I showed it to my family and they were crying," Tebow said.
He explained there was something about the Truett brothers that reminded him of his relationship with his brother Robby.
"I think there are a lot of similarities to a certain extent. We are very close. We push each other. We compete all the time. Robby helped make me better in sports and in life," Tebow noted.
"Just having each other's back, and that relationship. I think that is probably my favorite part about this movie. It is about relationships and I believe life is about relationships," he said.

Trump Was Born on a 'Blood Moon' - Australian Pastor Points to Prophecy Being Fulfilled - CBN News Steve Warren

Trump Was Born on a 'Blood Moon' - Australian Pastor Points to Prophecy Being Fulfilled
- Feb. 26, 2019 CBN News Steve Warren

Australian Pastor Steve Cioccolanti says there's a direct connection between President Donald Trump and signs in the heavens that are referred to as "blood moons."
He points out that Trump was born in 1946 during a blood moon. And the latest blood moon on Jan. 20-21, 2019, came at the midpoint of Trump's first term in office. Then there was a 'Super Blue Blood Moon' Over Jerusalem the day after Trump's first State of the Union Address. Coincidence? Cioccolanti says there's a higher power at work.
Born in Thailand to a family of Buddhists, Catholics, Methodists and Muslims, Cioccolanti is now a Christian author, teacher, and the pastor of Discover Church in Melbourne, Australia.
In a YouTube video, Cioccolanti explains these blood moons thoroughly. So far, the video has been viewed more than one million times.
Cioccolanti discussed the prophetic connection between Trump and these blood moons with Stephen Strang in a recent episode of The Strang Report on the Charisma Podcast Network.
Pastor Cioccolanti explained how when God wants to confirm something, he uses signs. The star of Bethlehem is a well-known example.
And the "blood moons" are referred to in several places in the Bible. For example, Revelation 6:12 talks about the end times when "the whole moon turned blood red." And Acts 2:20 cites the prophetic book of Joel, saying, "The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord."
Cioccolanti says, "Donald Trump was born on Friday the 14th of June 1946, and on that night there happened to be a blood moon, which is a term for a total lunar eclipse. Those things alone don't catch our attention, but if they fall, especially on Hebrew feast days, you know the biblical holidays, that really should make you pay attention."
"So, we had 10 symmetric Blood Moons beginning in 2010 all the way to 2019. The ones that people know most about are the four called the Tetrad, Greek for 'four' is 'tetrad'. That happened from 2014 to 2015. That was clearly when Trump was getting ready to run for president," he says.
"Then we've got another blood moon, the 10th and final in the series that occurred at the midpoint of his first term as president," the pastor told Strang during the podcast. "That happened on the night of the 20th to the 21st of January 2019. They're symmetric, they fall on feast days and they keep pointing to Trump."

JERUSALEM, Israel -Israel's Defense Ministry announced Sunday it has begun the final phase of construction of a galvanized steel barrier 20 feet high that will run the length of its frontier border with the Gaza Strip.
The 20,000 ton barrier will extend for 40 miles along the Gaza border and have a "smart fence" that can detect Hamas attack tunnels underground.
"Over the weekend we began building the above-ground barrier along the Gaza border," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told journalists before the weekly cabinet meeting.
The barrier "will prevent terrorists from Gaza from penetrating into our territory on the ground," he said.
The wall resembles one along the Egyptian border, but more sophisticated.
"The barrier is similar to the one on the Egyptian border, but it has significant improvements and includes innovative security elements," according to the statement from the ministry.
The project will be completed by the end of 2019 and will cost approximately $833 million.
Israel began constructing the new barrier around the Strip in 2016. Israel first focused on the underground portion after the 2014 Gaza war in which Hamas used underground terror tunnels to attack Israeli troops.
Palestinians have gathered almost weekly for a year for protests that have often turned violent.
Israel accuses Hamas of using the protests as cover to carry out violence, including killing two Israeli soldiers, launching rockets and arson balloons.

A North Carolina toddler who went missing on Tuesday told his family that he "hung out with a bear for two days."
Casey Lynn Hathaway, 3, vanished from his grandmother's backyard after playing with other children, the Craven County Sheriff's Office said.
After an extensive search, which was conducted by professional search and rescue teams, FBI agents, and US Marines from Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point, the boy was found on Thursday.
The sheriff's office also said the boy was "talking," "in good health" and was being evaluated doctors at a local hospital.
The boy's aunt posted an update about Casey on Friday to her Facebook page.
"Casey is healthy, smiling, and talking. He said he hung out with a bear for two days God sent him a friend to keep him safe. God is good God. Miracles do happen," she wrote.
Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes says the boy was playing with two other children in his grandmother's backyard in Ernul on Tuesday but didn't come inside with them.
Authorities had been concerned that Casey wasn't adequately dressed for the cold temperatures. Hundreds of volunteers had been helping with the search but had been told to stay away Thursday due to heavy rains and strong winds.

Sen. Lankford Reintroduces Bill to Defund Planned Parenthood, Redirect Funds to Women's Health Care - CBN News Steve Warren

Sen. Lankford Reintroduces Bill to Defund Planned Parenthood, Redirect Funds to Women's Health Care

01-16-2019
CBN News Steve Warren
WASHINGTON – Senators James Lankford (R-OK), Joni Ernst (R-IA), and 30 of their Senate colleagues have reintroduced legislation to prevent any taxpayer dollars from going to the nation's single largest provider of abortions, Planned Parenthood.

"This important bill helps ensure women have numerous options to receive quality and affordable health care while preventing federal dollars from going to Planned Parenthood," Lankford said in a press release. "By redirecting federal dollars away from abortion-providers and shifting them to thousands of other eligible women's health care providers that do not perform abortions but do provide critical screenings and health care, we can ensure taxpayers do not have to choose between valuing life and protecting women's health care."

Sen. Ernst hopes this measure will put an end to taxpayers funding abortion.
"We must fight to protect the most vulnerable of our society, the unborn. Iowans and all Americans should not be forced to fund the nation's largest abortion provider with their hard-earned tax dollars. This legislation will put an end to this practice and redirect those funds to eligible women's health care providers," Ernst said in a press release.

The Protect Funding for Women's Health Care Act prohibits taxpayer dollars from going to Planned Parenthood. Instead, the bill redirects those funds to other eligible women's health care providers while ensuring there is no reduction in federal funding for women's health services.

"The majority of Americans are unequivocal in their belief that our taxpayer dollars should not go towards funding organizations that provide abortions, including Planned Parenthood," said Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) in a press release. "The Protect Funding for Women's Health Care Act puts a stop to government-funded abortions while ensuring that much-needed funding for women's health services is protected."
Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) said that a majority of Americans agree with the legislation.

"No American taxpayer should be forced to fund abortions or abortion providers," said Blunt in a press release. "A majority of Americans agree that abortion is not the right place to spend federal tax dollars. This bill will ensure that every dollar taken away from the nation's largest abortion provider will go toward women's health care through community health centers and other providers that offer more comprehensive treatment services."

Sen. Deb Fischer (R-NE) said the measure is a common-sense solution.

"I've long been an advocate for pro-life policies that show compassion to women and the unborn. Through the Protect Funding for Women's Health Care Act, federal funds will be directed to community health centers, like the 44 sites we have across Nebraska, and not to Planned Parenthood. I'm proud to once again join my colleagues on this common-sense solution that will help provide comprehensive health care for women and protect life," Fischer said in a press release.

Specifically, the Protect Funding for Women's Health Care Act will do the following:
  • Prohibits federal funding of Planned Parenthood Federation of America or any of its affiliate organizations;
  • Forbids Planned Parenthood from being eligible for any federal dollars, including through mandatory expenditures or unobligated funding of individual agencies;
  • Protects federal funding for health services for women, including diagnostic laboratory and radiology services, well-child care, prenatal and postnatal care, immunizations, cervical and breast cancer screenings and more; and,
  • Ensures there is no reduction in overall federal funding available to support women's health.
