Why Christians and Jews Must Come Together to Battle Surging Anti-Semitism - CBN News Pastor Samuel Rodriguez,Adam Milstein

Why Christians and Jews Must Come Together to Battle
Surging Anti-Semitism
08-19-2018
Christianity and Judaism are different branches on the same family tree. Built on the teachings of Jesus
Christ – a Jew living in the land of Israel – Christianity shares with Judaism the sacred text of the old
testament, a set of values rooted in ethical monotheism, and a belief in the infinite value of every
human life. Despite these commonalities, the historic relationship between Christianity and Judaism
has been marked by conflict, prejudice, persecution and tragedy.

For centuries, many parts of Christendom rejected Jews and perpetuated anti-Semitism. Jews were
blamed for the death of Jesus Christ and for much of Christian society’s maladies. Across Christian
lands, Jews were subject to prejudicial restrictions, violence, and worse – from the Crusades to the
Spanish Inquisition to pogroms to the Holocaust.

The second half of the 20th century marked a turn for the better in the Jewish-Christian relationship,
as a wide range of Churches and Christian leaders began moving away from Replacement theology,
which claimed that the Christian Church has succeeded the Israelites as the chosen people of God.
At the same time, they started to acknowledge their faith’s past persecution of the Jewish people and
apologize for it, removed and renounced official church doctrine rooted in anti-Semitism, and
embraced Jews as members of a sister faith.

The bonds of brotherhood that have been nurtured in recent decades are a blessing for both Jews and
Christians. Yet, the challenge of fully healing the divides between our communities cannot be achieved
with words and gestures alone. It will take joint action. One clear area for collaboration is a unified
campaign against the forces of hate that now threaten our world.

For instance, in recent years, we have seen an unmistakable resurgence of anti-Semitism in nations
where many thought it had been confined forever to the margins of society. Anti-Semitism in Europe
is at its highest levels since immediately before the Holocaust with a quarter of Europeans holding
anti-Semitic views according to the Anti-Defamation League.

The surging antisemitism in Europe has also begun to wash up the shores of America. Last year,
target of religious hate crimes in America, accounting for 60% of those reported.

Jews and Christians, as two rich and diverse faith communities with a shared commitment to protecting
the value and life of every human being, have a duty to join together to fight all other forms of racism
and hatred, including anti-Semitism.

This work should begin by standing against the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement
— a campaign led by radical leftists and radical Islamists to delegitimize, isolate, and eventually,
eliminate the Jewish State from the face of the earth. BDS seeks to impose boycotts of Israel in
cultural, academic, economic, governmental, and religious institutions — and has gained increasing
prominence in recent years on college campuses, among trade unions and NGOs, and in certain corners
of the media.

Jews and Christians who regularly study our shared sacred texts know that Israel is the homeland of
the Jewish people. In Genesis, G-d states Israel’s boundaries and offers the land to Abraham and his
descendants as an eternal and unconditional promise. BDS seeks to erase this unbroken and unbreakable
bond between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel. This hate movement takes a page from a
centuries-old playbook, advocating for boycotts of Israel in the same way that anti-Semites advanced
boycotts of Jewish businesses and pogroms in Europe throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

Our shared struggle against the BDS Movement should be anchored by the understanding that BDS is
not just anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic. It’s anti-Christian, anti-American and anti-Western, driven by an
alliance between radical leftists and radical Islamists who hate the Judeo-Christian values that bind
together our two great countries.

Their alliance is built around a shared disdain for our belief in individual liberty, our dedication to
democracy, and our capitalist system. Hatem Bazian — the founder of the Students for Justice in
Palestine and one of the founders of the BDS Movement — publicly called for an Intifada, a violent
uprising against American citizens, inside of the United States. If we don’t draw a clear line in the sand
today to protect our ally Israel and the Jewish people, the tactics that the BDS Movement uses against
Israel today will be used against America and Christians tomorrow.

At the same time, we should stand against the demonization of the Jewish people and others now taking
place on the fringes of politics, where we have seen hate groups and bigots coordinate attacks against
Jews and Latinos on social media channels, generate anti-Semitic and racist memes, and reintroduce
anti-Semitic and racist epithets that had nearly left the American lexicon.

What’s the bottom line? We must all readily take responsibility now — before it’s too late. We need to
be united — liberals and conservatives; Jews, Christians, Hindus, Muslims, and atheists — to fight
against anti-Semitism and racism when it rears its ugly head no matter which political ideology it uses
to mask its hate.

This isn’t just about anti-Semitism. It isn’t just about Jews and Christians, or Israel and America. It’s
about fighting for what’s right. By joining forces at this critical moment, Jews and Christians can
realize the promise of a brighter future for both our peoples and others around the world.

'That's Amazing': Bethel Church Team Helping with Wildfire
Clean-up Discovers Powerful Reminder from God's Word

Bethel Church in California is ministering to victims of the wildfires there even as many members of
their congregation have experienced loss as well.

Recently, according to a post on social media, the team discovered a burnt page that survived the
flames amidst all the rubble and ashes.

"It was encouraging to the team to find the pages, and there was a strong reminder that His Word
stands above every circumstance and situation that we may face in life. He is faithful to our stories,
and we're standing on His promises," the Instagram post read referencing the bits of Psalm 90 and 91

Extreme Heat and Wildfires Across The Nation Threaten Fourth of July Celebrations

Members and followers of Bethel commented on the post with their stories of the power of God's
Word – even those very same verses.

One woman told the story of an illness that was used in helping her come to the Lord... and one
specific night that she believes was a turnaround.

"That same night, my dad was reading the scriptures to me with tears running down on his face as
others were praying. And that scripture happened to be Psalm 91. I didn't know Jesus then, but this
scripture was stuck in my head for more than a decade," Ellen Cardenas posted.

"After I got all recovered, reborn for 16 years now, I finally found the courage to ask my dad about
the scripture he read on that night of spiritual battle if it was Psalm 91 (5 years back). I was amazed
when he said, 'Yes, it was.' That was a beautiful confirmation that I did hear God's voice and he was
calling us all back to Him," she went on to say.

"Wow, that's so powerful," wrote Denise Cross.

"This really blessed me this morning! Thanks for posting! Brings things back into perspective,"
someone posted on the Instagram page "womendifyingwomen."

Another person made an observation about one particular verse.

"And verse 15 sticks out the most 'make us glad,'" Jennifer Rogers commented.

How This Spirit-Filled Director Continues His Family's Famous Spiritual Legacy From Behind a Camera - JESSILYN JUSTICE CHARISMA NEWS

How This Spirit-Filled Director Continues His Family's Famous Spiritual Legacy From Behind a Camera

JESSILYN JUSTICE  CHARISMA NEWS
David Cunningham comes from seven generations of missionaries and ministry workers. If his last name rings a bell, it could be because his parents, Loren and Darlene, founded Youth With a Mission in 1960. It's this incredible spiritual legacy that impacts Cunningham's role in Hollywood as a director. His latest film, Running for Grace, stars Jim Caviezel and Matt Dillon in a powerful story about family, adoption, identity, racism and hope. Cunningham recently spoke with Charisma News about his faith, the industry and how the two work together. The film opens Aug. 17 in limited theaters, but will be available on demand on Aug. 20.
Walk me through the story behind your latest film:
I am a father of three kids. We all love movies and hanging out with each other but always have the same challenge of finding a movie we all actually want to see. What ends up happening a lot is everyone goes to their own devices and watches their own show separately. The whole joy of watching together is replaced by binge watching in the dark on your own with some small backlit device. Besides being avid film watchers, we have the privilege of living in Hawaii, where all three of my kids were born and are being raised. We like to do adventures around the island: expeditions to waterfalls, trails and remote beaches. In addition to the diversity of the landscape on Hawaii Island (11 of the 13 climate zones exist on one island), we have some of the most diverse ethnicities in the U.S. I actually grew up in Hawaii as a minority (I am haole, aka Caucasian) where most of my friends were Hawaiian or of mixed race. It was a real gift to grow up that way and has shaped the way I see the world and the kinds of movies I make.
I made Running for Grace to bring my family (and hopefully yours) together to experience an uplifting movie with themes of challenges and victories that we can all relate to on a daily basis. I think audiences will be entertained as they are swept away to another time and place and hopefully the importance of identity and the power of adoption will resonate. It is mind-blowing to think that in the 1920s, it was illegal by federal law to be able to adopt a child of mixed race. It was called "racial integrity." The segregated society in Hawaii was meant for control like so many places in the world at that time (and sadly still the case in some places today). Running for Grace is about a boy of mixed race who defies all the odds to fight for what is most important to him and changes the whole community around him.
I think one of my favorite days on set was when we were filming a romantic scene high up the mountain on a sunny, clear day. The weather suddenly changed, and a bank of thick fog rolled in. With just a few minutes' notice, we had to switch into an entirely new scene that was scheduled for another day and that was going to require a lot of fog machines and Computer Visual FX. Matt Dillon, Jim Caviezel, Ryan Potter and Nick Boraine shifted gears. The crew raced into action and within minutes we were filming a scene where the volcano had erupted and the "vog" was pouring over the island. The scene turned out epic with no manmade effects needed. That's how magic is captured in movies. You gotta love making movies with those kinds of folks.
We had a blast making this movie with such a talented and fun cast and crew. It was truly a family venture. My wife was the department head for makeup and hair, my kids were extras and stand-ins, and we even filmed part of the movie on our property. After spending many years making movies around the world (often in many cold and dark places) I feel so blessed to be able to make a movie I care about with my family and friends literally in my own back yard! What? Who gets to do that?
How is your personal faith journey displayed in your work?
Every movie is a major leap of faith (this is my eighth movie to direct) and is very tough. It keeps me on my knees a lot. I am constantly asking for inspiration. Filmmaking is a medium that must be inspired in some regards to connect with audiences. I look to the ultimate inspiration for that touch.
How does your spiritual legacy affect your work?
I have seven generations of ministers and missionaries on one side of the family and four on the other. My great-grandfather started 13 churches out of a covered wagon in the Territory of Oklahoma. My great uncle was a prisoner of war in World War II in China at the hands of the Japanese as he refused to leave his congregation there. My grandmother was the first woman ordained minister in her denomination and my parents started the interdenominational organization of YWAM or Youth With A Mission. I believe I am continuing the family legacy but that my pulpit looks a bit different. My family legacy represents folks who sacrificed much for others. I try to remember that when things get tough.
What do your parents think of working in Hollywood?
They are super supportive and understand that my calling is to influence popular culture for Him.
Many Christians think Hollywood should be boycotted at all costs. What is your response to this?
My father tells the story that in the 1950s, when Bible-based movies were doing very well at the box office, a studio executive reached out to Bible schools and ask them to send graduates to help write Bible-based movies. One Bible school president wrote back, "I would rather send our graduates to hell than to Hollywood". There was a total rejection of popular culture by much of the faith community. In doing so, we lost influence and authority in one of the most influential spheres in the world. It has taken decades to see changes in that area. I firmly believe we need to engage and create, not sit on the sidelines and judge.
Jim Caviezel has openly talked about persecuted Christians and getting more involved in assisting them. How has he impacted you to consider this?
It was an honor to direct Jim. His role in The Passion was polarizing for him in the industry. It cost him much. I admire his courage and conviction.
What sort of prophetic words have guided your career?
There are too many to list. I seek the Lord in what I do on a daily basis and find that "strength will rise when you wait upon the Lord."
Anything else you'd like to add?
I am grateful for your interest and support. I hope the themes in Running for Grace of the power of adoption will resonate with your readers. We have been doing benefit red-carpet screenings with our movie, celebrating parents who have adopted and we are carrying that theme into the digital release. We have a way for folks to bless families that have adopted by gifting them an HD download of our movie. Please go to runningforgracemovie.com to see where we are playing in theaters and how you can receive and give a digital copy. Mahalo!

Dear Friends and Prayer Partners,

We were deeply touched by the loving response by so many of you who were praying for our Orthodox Jewish daughter and her husband to arrive at the Thrive Today conference.  We'd never experienced such intense spiritual warfare but we are already seeing beautiful fruit. Many of you asked what we learned there.  The biggest benefit, besides the wonderful fellowship with beautiful Christians, including Christian psychiatric doctors, nurses, social workers, etc was learning how to re-pattern our thoughts and responses to negative emotions by replacing the usual accusations, complaints and frustrations with validation, compassion and gratitude.  This makes for a much more peaceful home!

After lunch each day we would do synchronized dancing - Israeli folk dancing to be precise!  Brain scientists have found this releases tremendous joy as it puts everyone on a level playing field as we all make mistakes together but quickly recover from shame and return to joy.  On the second day, when Shayna heard the words to one of the songs which was clearly a worshipful song to Yeshua, she left.
When Yishai realized that Shayna was gone during the dancing, he looked around and asked jokingly, "Was she raptured?" When he found Shayna, they walked outside together, and then
an older lady saw their name tags and asked,  "Oh you're from Israel?  Are you preaching the Gospel to the Jews there?" Shayna calmly answered, "We are Jewish so weren't not doing that."
If this had happened even last year, they probably would have packed their bags and left but instead they quickly returned to joy through Immanuel!  This is how they were able to come to this conference.

Please allow us to explain.  We see the appearance of G-d many times in the Tanach, Old Testament and the clearest reference to His name is in Isaiah 7:14 - Immanuel or G-d with us.  Yeshua gave a remarkable Word in John 6:45 - "Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me."  So we realized from this Word that when we are seeking the voice of G-d from Immanuel who appears throughout the OT, when people hear His voice and learn from Him, they will find His Son!
Therefore the L-rd Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son,
and she will call His name Immanuel (G-d with us)   Isaiah 7:14 & Matt 1:23

Please join us in our home for an evening of worship, Israeli folk dancing and testimonies followed by dinner on our upper balcony with a beautiful view of the Galilee!

Announcing the newest member of our family - Shiriel Eliza Hyde!  Shayla and baby are doing well but please pray for Ariel who has been sick lately.  And please keep Avi and Liora in prayer for a miraculous restoration.
Prodigal banner
Many years ago the L-rd told me to make a banner with the names of prodigals, ours and yours, hang it on my closet and wave it daily when we're in the Galilee. If you'd like your loved one on this banner, it would be an honor to pray for them too!

Divine Appointments

While ministering in Detroit, a dear friend brought me to the home of a well known, elderly Jewish doctor who was friends with Albert Einstein.  While giving me a tour of his beautiful home, which is like a museum, he was pleased to show me original copies of books by Copernicus, Galileo, Darwin and of course Einstein.  At the end of the tour, he asked what I thought. I told the doctor that although his home is filled with treasures, there's only one treasure of value.  "What's that?", he asked rather astounded.
I gently placed my hand over his heart and said, "Your heart."  And with his nurse standing beside him, praying in tears, this doctor heard a clear message of Yeshua.  He didn't make a choice to follow Messiah that day but let's pray for his precious soul...

On the streets of Jerusalem we asked directions from an Orthodox Jewish man and then began to talk.  We had the joy of sharing our faith and he was surprised to realize that Messianic believers and Orthodox Jews actually have a tremendous amount of good things in common such as conservative beliefs.  He left saying he had plenty to ponder...
The good guysThank you for standing with us and the young Israelis whom we support who are also sharing Messiah's love in Israel.  As you bless the remnant in Israel with your love, prayers and support, may the L-rd pour out Genesis 12:3 blessings upon you and your loved ones!

We write L-rd and G-d in this way because it's a Jewish custom that Carolyn grew up with and it's done only out of reverence and honor for the name of the L-rd.  Thanks for understanding.
